Games People Play Podcast Episode 17 - Charlie Ward
He looks great 👍 now,I remember when he was with the Rangers, and he was a sad 😔 mess, it's great to see him healthy and happy 😊
Saw that on TV back in the day. Poor John went down like a tree.
I was at the game in 76 against the Bengals. They used to broadcast a radio show from the locker room after the game that we listened to in the car. One of my favorite memories was when Roger Carr was being interviewed he said that catching TD passes was easy when your QB had a cannon for an arm. Carr caught 3 that day and spiked the ball over the goal post, which was a first. The excitement in the city at that time was palpable. Bert Jones is still my favorite Colt player.
i had the immense pleasure of meeting Steve at a Patriots Alumni Event at Gillette. He was so easy to talk to, and I proudly have a #14 red jersey with his autograph on the back. Easily my favorite Patriot not named Tom Brady. I love to show my kids throwback footage of Grogan in action
Something tells me he was on the road BEFORE taking the hit
It's like watching the Zapruder film.
Gotta be an umbrella somewhere in there..
This is very strange. Too bad Jaeger couldn't navigate her way through this. Andrea Jaeger was a unique talent who could have really disrupted the status quo of women's tennis. It seems as if Chris and Martina were able to manage things better than some of their other competitors. It would have been nice to see Andrea Jaeger and Tracy Austin have full careers and then see how everything landed.
The tell is they never show the entire ball....
Don't judge this woman. She was a young woman in confusing times and situations.
I liked her game. She was like Chris Evert with top spin.
I knew her dad Roland Jaeger very well. I knew Andrea somewhat. She must be confused about when she beat Martina at Eastborne, 1981, not 1983, but she’s not nuts, like some commenters are saying. She beat Martina 4 times and beat everyone else too. Her dad was intense and got excited at times. But he loved his family and Andrea loved him. He was a great man. I believe Andrea 100%. She was close to becoming a multi slam champion and got injuries that wouldn’t let her compete. At 14, she was one of the best 5 or 6 players in the world. She’s my favorite tennis pro ever. I actually ballboyed for three of her matches when she first turned pro in Seattle 1980.
GO BU! GO BERNIE! SPEND IT ANY WAY YOU WANT!
He certainly sounds like a drug addict.
According to the rules in 1972, once an offensive player touches the ball, he is the only player that can legally catch it. It did not matter, then, if a defensive player touches it, or not. Over the years, the rule has changed more than once, but that was the rule then. You don't have to believe me, look it up yourself. "If" Frenchy touches the ball, at all in any way, all other Steelers are ineligible, including Franco.🏴☠️
Land the plane!
Who the hell is vacuuming in the background
Rich pilon from Prince albert Saskatchewan,,,he called him an indian
Was at game in Foxboro and Steve threw an interception just before the half and Steve chased the guy and leveled him out of bounds, he was so tough. Held NFL record for QB rushing TDs for awhile.
Eddie's 3 brothers robbed a lot of banks.
Phill and Franco good naturedly milked that play for all it's worth for decades. RIP Franco - all the best Phil.
That play and the Cal-Stanford "the band is on the field" play are both perfect in multiple what-ifs and crazy sequence of events.
Odd.
Toughest QB to EVER play the game. He played with every brace there was. He won 6 games in a row to get the Pats to the 85 SB and if he started that game the Pats could've won or came a lot closer than the score was without him playing. He came in late and scored the only touch down we scored.
She sounds borderline insane.
I thought this interview was going to be about Andrea's tennis. This is 7 minutes of my life I'll never get back. And anyone who wouldn't try in a Wimbledon final has a screw loose anyway. WTF
The Steelers had to go through the Raiders twice to win Super Bowl 9 and 10. Those games were the best football games ever played. I've been a die hard fan of the Steelers since 1972. and I always respected the Oakland Raiders. No better football then to have John Madden whining on the sidelines to the referees
Phil Villapiano belongs in Canton. He's the embodiement of the Oakland Raiders.
Saw a video where Villapiano brags about putting chemicals on his wristbands to burn the eyes of other team's players. Then they showed game film of him intentionally getting his wrist in somebody's face & the guy running off the field with his eyes burning. A Born Raider.
It's so obvious; the ball bounced off Tatum and it didn't hit the ground. Losers don't get to rewrite history.
Had a chance to skate with #4 Orr at a junior A practice when he played for Oshawa Generals.
Franco Harris was a good guy who never gave up. Can't say anything bad on Franco Harris.
Villapiano is easily one of the biggest crybabies among retired athletes.
She’s nuts
Thank you
Bern, this was a pleasure to watch and listen to. Mike is truly an American hero and such a great story! Excellent interview!
If Tatum had played the ball instead of trying to destroy Fuqua, Oakland wins.
This Goon calling someone else a Dirty Player is Pathetic!! Really could have Killed him
Please tell me how he could have killed Pilon?these are two old time hockey players playing the game the only way that they knew how.If you don't have the stomach for rough stuff watch tennis or golf
Stevens was a 40 goal scorer with the Pens, he was far from a goon.
50 goal scorer @@nemonucliosis
Only a loser would make this comment, must be a Bruins fan
Funny thing is,they were teammates for half a season in New York (1999-2000)
2 great teams of the 1970s both 😁won super bowls over those loser vikings🤣
As a Pens fan I remember watching that game and I think about that hit all the time. It still gives me the chills
Same. I was 12 years old and remember even then thinking that this was different. This was a life-changer.
Tatum drove the ball back upfield so the catch is legal. Only thing is did he really catch it. Not knowing makes this even more fantastic
God bless Phil. Franco. All the players and coaches that made that game, and the 70's the GOLDEN AGE of football.
RIP Franco. We know you caught it brother
I'd that play would have been called back, someone wouldn't have gotten out of there alive.
Love and Respect that Steelers and Raiders had for each other...
Huh? At the time they hated each other. For example: Opening game in the 1976 season, after the hard fought game was over, Steelers coach Chuck Noll referred to Raider player George Atkinson as “a criminal element” that should be banished from the NFL. Atkinson pressed charges for slander in a court of law. You mean that kind of love and respect for one another?😆😅🤣😂
Fuck the Steelers! Sincerely Raider Nation
Everything Villapiano says is complete bullshit. Its a funny thought, but he has to know the truth now. with the upscaling of this video, even this low def shitstain of a film we see here. Completely shows reality no matter how fuzzy they try to make it. I like Villapiano though, he just needs to stfu now cus we KNOW..
God bless Franco, a true gentleman of the game on and off the field, and Phil is a truly class act. It's fantastic that those to became great friends for over 40 years.
The Raiders got Hosed
Villapiano was a great player, but boy was he in fantasyland with his take. Franco trapped the ball??? C'mon, Phil! That's the ONE thing about this play that's indisputable! You can clearly see from every angle that he caught the ball before it hit the ground, with a few inches to spare. But I get it - I'm sure it still stings the Raider players, and they have never gotten over it.
LAW OF PHYSICS. The ball travels by equal and opposite reaction. Defender is going ( i will say right). Ball is going left and can only go right IF it hits a body going right. IF the ball hit the steelers that is traveling left, the same direction the ball was traveling, there is no FORCE that change its direction and speed
