This made me download Space Station 13 and I was thinking "oh just these guys do weird shit" But then the Head of Security crushed his own ribcage with an air tank and a cat began stealing all the guns from the Armoury.
I was playing Space Station 13 and I remember running around as a Virologist trying to find where I was supposed to go, and I had picked up a blow torch at some point. I then saw a bunch of people pulling a bunch of fuel tanks around, and I just clicked one of them with the blow torch in my hand, and all of a sudden the game froze, turned white, then it faded back in and I had blown a hole into the center of the space station, and within a minute I had ended the whole game that had been going on for a long ass time. Needless to say I can never go back onto the 8chan SS13 server ever again.
I was playing as a psychiatrist once and I got bored an decided to locked myself in my office so I could get food. When I came back about 5 minutes later I had a look at the chat log and all I could see was people talking over the radio about how they were beheading people in medbay.
Holy shit, thank you for introducing me to Swivel. Gone are the days of having to compress the animation with "Microsoft Video 1", the video compressor from 1992.
I was rolling as the Head Admin of one of the SS13 servers someone linked me to this and I could not stop laughing. I love good grief stories. I don't care if I am supposed to stop this shit its fucking priceless sometimes.
This was a really good episode. Listening to Jeff and the guys talk about game design, and hearing a little bit about the game Jeff, Corey, and Tom are working on was really interesting, Chris is pretty spot on about the character movement in G.T.A IV/V you can feel the weight of the character you're controlling, which I find pretty neat and a little bit frustrating at the same time. The other half where Swain talks about his psychotic method of dealing with the trauma of 9/11, and the griefing on Space Station 13 was fucking hilarious.
Intrepid Intervenor I am for fucking sure, but unlike sleepycast I can sorta see it being a "Every once in a while (maybe monthly), talk show with Zach and a guy he knows." not "A chaos of dick jokes and 7 random guys shooting the shit every week." but still cant wait for schmucks.
Yeah I noticed that, really goes to show how much people can drastically change over time. He really lives up to “always challenge yourself to learn new things”
@@marbles2223 He's still behind the high concepts of the design based on how he's talked about it in the past. Arguably makes him a game designer nonetheless
I had to explain to my coworker why I was laughing myself to the point of crying without saying some online man learned he could eat too many hamburgers and shit on the space station floor and kill people.
I was laughing so hard at Swain recounting his griefing antics. It's the quick, easy way he's describing murdering other players that makes it so hilarious.
As someone that plays SS13 religiously, I love that my favorite animators play it. Also, you guys are describing the exact people I hate. Anyone that decides to play 2D Spessmen, don't follow their example. Screwdrivers are not robust. Spears are where it's at. Oh, if anyone actually wants to play this autism simulator, look up a wiki for the server type you want to play on. This game has a steep learning curve and (as you can tell) a playerbase that loves to take advantage of new players. Most, at least.
Sweet. I really like this topic. I can't play fighting games for shit but I recently stumbled upon the animation dump for some of the Skullgirls characters and it's fucking fascinating. (Also it looks gorgeous)
I think that long action animations can be a positive thing. a good example is the input and animation delay for using the whip in Castlevania, sometimes the slow movement has a very important application to strategy. Dark Souls is a great example as well, but if we are talking about something like Mario or Super Meat Boy then taking an extra 2.5 seconds to jump is a ridiculous notion.
I remember griefing in Minecraft servers by placing houses called "public diamond mines" and they had iron one-way doors, and when you came in, it activated TNT, and you couldn't get out, so it just blew up and killed you. And inside the house was a sign that said "Get it? Public MINE."
I love how they don't dumb down the talk. It's awesome what you can learn when they discuss these esoteric issues with the actual terms. And right from the horse's mouth too with the old Newgrounds crew. Right on SleepyCast. Right on.
Ok, so I wanted to see that screenshot after hearing the story again recently and went into the description to see if the image was there. It is, however it was uploaded to the sleepycabin website which I just found out has been down for a while now. I'm literally shaking right now I'm so fucking emotionally distressed. THE SLEEPYCABIN WEBSITE IS DOWN! How do we get it back? Will we ever get it back? OMG what is the point of being alive if the sleepycabin website is down? Edit: Ah, the simple anxieties of youth. Entropy arrives in good time.
I've always been a fan of sound design and music composition so I'm taking my notes but one thing I've always wanted to see and I don't know if there any games that have done it I just haven't played any personally that have but I've always wanted an overworld foot traversal theme that feels jaunty and hopeful and such when you're walking but it gets something going in the background like a couple quick beats of a snare drum to throw in there and maybe some brass to just stoke the energy a little bit to make it feel like you've increased your movement speed or have started running
Space station 13 and Minecraft are great games for ducking around with people in. Even if you have no idea what you are doing the stories are still great
Hey I know this might be asking for too much but I found this video on a reddit thread and after watching it I saw they mentioned a screenshot of the game (SS13) and I'd like to see it but the link is dead and from what I understand this podcast (and channel) are a bit, dead? I already tried the wayback machine and an archive but the image isn't there anymore, so if anyone has the screenshot, could you please share it?
Someone posted the picture on a reddit post with the same link, but the preview thumbnail still exist (when googling "Swain ss13" its the first picture (as of 2022)) Or here is the preview link for it: external-preview.redd.it/rnPaXhWWsa66MTVFxdLPWRQsQdOMoU31JoL-fE7i7zA.jpg?auto=webp&s=9d7f4df8b57033f490d7a4f7384592114282c7c4
Oooh this is interesting! I started to learn flash over a year ago... but I also had to stop. I learned it in school. I now have access to it in the college library, but I don't have the time any more... The thing about Flash, well now Animate, is that I can do animations and games in it, but it's not the best at either one... But it has stuff that nothing else I know has, or it's more difficult to implement with other stuff like HTML5. Imagine Homestar Runner in HTML5...
I remember when I first got trolled on minecraft. thank god I wasnt trolled by these guys. The moral of the story is its just a game. Dont be so mad when things go to shit and enjoy the game.
I was once an Abductor on Hippie. I lost my baton early in the game so instead, me and my scientist stole fire axes and murderboned the entire crew by teleporting behind them and shit. We then called the shuttle and planned to continue our spree at centcomm but someone called Death Squad. You can tell how that turned out.
prince of persias control works for that game, since it is more of a puzzle game than an action heavy platformer. its good once you get the hang of it.
This made me download Space Station 13 and I was thinking "oh just these guys do weird shit"

Holy shit that sentence was a roller coaster
you're British .
I had to read that a couple times to properly process it lol

Was it h8, pizza, or new?
This is the most normal and informative sleepycast episode. And somehow it has Cory in it
Nice daroachdog pfp

How’s your dad been man?
@@jankemjunkie6564 You seen the new 'Joker' movie? That's him now
Holy shit, thank you for introducing me to Swivel.

You put it to some good use! Love ur shit brah keep it up, dungeon dynamite is fucking top tier.
Did NOT expect a podcast about Space Station 13
Killer Janitor(s).
Mark Keller
No. It's not like it matters, the story and quests are garbage anyway.
+Havoc Jaeger I fucking love ss13
I don't play it enough, but SS13 is my favorite obscure game.
I was rolling as the Head Admin of one of the SS13 servers someone linked me to this and I could not stop laughing. I love good grief stories. I don't care if I am supposed to stop this shit its fucking priceless sometimes.

58:23 When the Space Station 13 griefing stories begin
Tom fulp got sent to the shadow realm half way through this episode
fuck man i still go back to listen to these while i work. timeless.
ServicePlot me too, iv probably listens to ENTIRE two seasons 4 times
Schuyler Neal it's fucking great. It's to bad it's over.
ServicePlot phycicpebles has his own podcast now and a bunch of the old guys are gonna be on it

I like how Chris says he isn’t a game designer but now he’s working on Bowlbo.
This was 4 years ago

Really enjoyed this one! Swain, you're fucking hilarious. I miss your face.
The "I miss your face" has the same energy as me drunk texting an ex at 4 am trying to start the selfie train to boobatown.
I had to explain to my coworker why I was laughing myself to the point of crying without saying some online man learned he could eat too many hamburgers and shit on the space station floor and kill people.
1:01:18
So I'll remember in the future.
Swain sounds like the kind of guy you don't want to piss off if you play an MMO.
+GamerNonGamer I play tank and then walk away when the mobs come.
People pose as other people all the time on 4chan. I wouldn't trust it.
when swain was talking minecraft I realized he was the evil one in admincraft and made me remember I was old
Tom's voice is straight from heaven.
This was awesome, Love me some technical talk
I loved the animation you did on the podcast they did before, really great work.
+Corrupted Cat Your icon. It reeks of the Shadman.
+OVERTIME3NTITY lmao i made it this when he first drew it up and posted it

The Space Station 13 portion might just be the best conversation in podcasting history. Magnifique!
The end when they're talking about Space Station 13 had me crying. It's SO accurate.
Sweet. I really like this topic. I can't play fighting games for shit but I recently stumbled upon the animation dump for some of the Skullgirls characters and it's fucking fascinating. (Also it looks gorgeous)
Finally got to see Star Wars AND there's a new sleepycast with Tom Fulp as a guest. Rock and roll night over here
Weeee
Cool af to see this get updated with chapters!
That whole thing about the pre-loader is a trip. I've totally seen that everywhere
i am goddamn delighted to hear that they found ss13
Tom's barely contained laughter as he describes his Minecraft trolling makes me smile every time
I like to listen to these while animating, makes it soooo much better
I love the classical music they have playing in the background, it just helps me get into the podcast (though the podcast is already amazing)
Some good Japanese shows are Gaki No Tsukai! 24 hour tag or Gaki Kids vs Adults Drawing Game.
Don't forget Game Center CX.

Dark Souls 2.
Your weapon degradation was tied to your frame rate.
If you got DS2 on PC to run it at 60fps, your weapon was degrading twice as fast.
This was great, really enjoy behind-the-scenes stuff with game development, and Swain's griefing stories were hysterical lol

I like how the beginning is actually a serious discussion about game development before they get back to the normal sleepy style
I love this episode Swain is such a well spoken gentlemen while talking about these psychotic trolls hahaha
Listening to the game design spectacular while finishing off my last game design assignment for this semester :D
love the podcast didn’t know it was a thing till like this month sadly

Fucking love Swain. The ship is great, and space station 13 is fucking insane aswell. great podcast
Once again, it's time to come back to this episode now that Oney uploaded another SS13 video.
I remember griefing in Minecraft servers by placing houses called "public diamond mines" and they had iron one-way doors, and when you came in, it activated TNT, and you couldn't get out, so it just blew up and killed you. And inside the house was a sign that said "Get it? Public MINE."
Still here listening, never gets old.
I just finished the last podcast and I watching this at work thank you
I love how they don't dumb down the talk. It's awesome what you can learn when they discuss these esoteric issues with the actual terms. And right from the horse's mouth too with the old Newgrounds crew. Right on SleepyCast. Right on.
I sleep to the sound of psychicpebble's nasal cancer voice.
At 27:29 I'm pretty sure they predicted cup head
I'm so sad that I can't see the griefing picture because the sleepycabin website doesn't exist anymore
When you can't sleep because you keep hearing dying pig noises so you rip your floor apart and find a river of pigs flowing into a river of lava.
probably my favorite sleepycast
+Jacob Rowe I want more of just this chill discussion
Just reminding everyone that Tom Fulp ate my new born child in 1976
Haha, classic!
RIP Cory Spazkid. Thank you for making beautiful animations and touching all of our hearts with your jokes. We all miss you.
I would love to see some let's plays of space station 13 when you're griefing people. I would watch the shit outta that.

More griefing storys please, I can relate to the same shit when I played those games back then.
Tom is incredibly thoughtful and poignant. Not what I was expecting and totally surprised
On the topic of gravity, it requires slightly more care to adjust for different frame rates because it's an acceleration and not a velocity.
Three and a half minutes in. I have never been more lost.
I hardly understand this podcast at all, but I like listening to it for some reason...
Who ever kept slapping their lap the 1st couple of minutes was driving me crazy. You can actually hear him talking with his hands...
You guys should have TVMaxwell as a guest if he's still in your area.
+dudosaur Totally agree. He is awesome.
Holy shit there's so many things in game design I've never even thought about before as a player.
that game sounds complicated as hell but also incredible. it's not something I would ever play
I'd really like you guys to talk more about the newgrounds era of your guys's work. you should also get Emily Youcis on the podcast.
God i miss sleepycabin podcasts.

I can't believe he plays SS13, represent!
never has griefing made me laugh this much

I reopened this video in the middle of the space station 13 conversation and was really confused for a second
Mastermind was such a cool game, the ending was great.
the Space Station 13 episode

Swain playing all the same obscure games that I've been playing. We need to play games together, brah.
