I don’t care what anybody says I loved this generation Montero, and from everything I’ve read online they’re super reliable on past 200,000 miles. If I made more money I’d get this as a secondary vehicle to use when the weather is inclement or on trips especially. Your video really shows the off-road capabilities this thing has also!
Nice video! Great buy, mate, you won't regret it. I've bought the exact same car, even same colour, 3 years ago with only 80k miles. Beautiful condition. Me and my wife use it to overland here in New Zealand. Upgraded the suspension with 2inch OME, and changed to Maxxis AT tyres. Added a roof platform and rooftop tent, house battery in the back, and fridge (removed 3rd row seats). It takes us everywhere, with such a nice ride. Good luck with your build - please share a link if you're recording your progress. Have fun!!
XLS Gen 3s have 4.90 gears ideal for bigger wheels and tires. We own all 3 generations..the Gen 3 is the best for both of road and normal pavement. Check out Adventure Driven design for their USA made full underbody armour and Luso Overland for additional parts. There are a few Gen 3s that have done Rubicon and many that done MOAB also. It's definitely one of the last overbuilt Japanese SUVs.
Is the smaller sport good? My favorite '90s SUV is my Rodeo but they have their transmission issues. How reliable is the transmission and motor in the Montero sport?
Sweet ride. The 2nd gen Montero SR comes with a factory air locker, and all gen 2s fit 33x11 MT tires stock. That rear suspension is super nice though, I can't think of anything else that is IRS and has a real low range and room for overlanding. Sorry VW the Touarge is too small, and the low range isn't very much of a gear change.
No don't tell everybody. 3:17 Best value for money out there. I have the NA petrol and the NP Diesel , it's a shame you don't get the diesel the 4M41 is a really powerful engine and really good on fuel.

Just came across this video on the Mitsubishi... Here in Australia we had the 1st,2nd and 3rd Gen... Still heaps of all Gens on the road today... Though the first gen are getting harder to find. They are a fantastic vehicle, over engineering made for a strong off road vehicle, just look at Dakar. Great see you modifying one. 👍🚙🇦🇺

It's called a Shogun in the UK 👍👍👍. I love my 2005 3.2did it really is an awesome piece of kit for the price. I had a MK2 2.8 before this and it had a front locker so was a little better off road but as I use my truck as a daily driver it's 80% of the time on tarmac and it's better than the MK2 there by quite a margin. Mine has an OME 2"lift and more aggressive tyres and that's it 👍👍👍 love it.

I own a 99 Montero SR. When I first bought it in 2010. The salesman was telling me something about the great history of this thing but I was not paying attention. Two years later, because of my lack of knowledge of maintenance in this thing,I had electrical problems (it really needs an OEM alternator) Mitsubishi or denso. I let it sit for 8 years. during the pandemic. I decided to get it running again just so could sell it for about 1000 dollars. But after much research and discovery of the MMUSA group I realized how valuable and rare mine was and relearned the history of my 99. Any way it has been over a year and over 10,0000 miles since I got mine running again. And I can't tell you how good this thing sounds and rides even after sitting for so long. I did have to clean out the gas tank and replace the fuel pump
I had one. I’m looking forward to buying another. For those curious, they’re incredibly well built. I lost mine to an unfortunate roll over. Once over and back on the wheels, of course totaled, but the structure of the cabin was so sound that if it weren’t for a flat tire i could have driven it home. The doors all opened after the roll as well.
I've been drooling over 3rd gen Monteros for years now. Such a good looking SUV. I just need room to part one and I'll get one. Only complaint I hear is finding parts is a bear.
Bullshit. Gen 3s are more comfortable and better looking. Don’t give two shits about overlanding. I’m a Midwest city guy. They are great in the snow. Almost 200000 miles. Great truck. You are wrong. Different vehicles totally

Nice,👍🏻 wish they had a cooler name for it here, montero is not a cool as Shogun or Pajero.
Front locker? Surely you mean the stock Shogun rear locker?
Just picked up a clean 01 limited for $3,500 love the look of it and how you don't see very many on the road.
Nice, glad to hear it.🤟🏻
@@MuddyBeards4X4 saw the video of the suspension lift install that's inspiring me to want to do it. Great work! And I just got it last night and I'm here in California and it just started storming rain so there's going to be snow in Big Bear I'm thinking about running her up there haha.
What happened with this Montero? Do you have any update on it?
I unfortunately sold it to fund the S10 build I am currently working on.
I wonder if its cheap to own and easy to work on?
Love the montero
Is this good as a daily driver?
Yes, very comfortable on and off road.
@@MuddyBeards4X4 you think they would last till 300k miles? Thinking of getting one today.. I found a 2003 20th year edition
Haha mullet! That’s awesome, definitely excited to see what you come up with for bumpers and all the Overlanding mods!
I love this channel
Thanks
My montero has not let me down once when climbing stuff or just off-roading. The gen 2s are even more fun
Nice man, good to hear. Just got back from a successful first trip after the lift and tires. And it did awesome
Why are the Gen 2s more fun?
Now do an isuzu trooper
I can't decide between the montero or the grand vitara
Montero all the way 🤟🏻
I've been drooling over 3rd gen Monteros for years now. Such a good looking SUV. I just need room to part one and I'll get one. Only complaint I hear is finding parts is a bear.
What do you guys think of a Jeep Commander as an overland build
Looking at a 2001 right now, anything to watch out for? I'm not a mechanic.
Montero😍
4k?! This exact car would sell for 15k every day here in Belgium 😂
sorry to say but gen3 is total garbage, gen2 is much much better
Bullshit. Gen 3s are more comfortable and better looking. Don’t give two shits about overlanding. I’m a Midwest city guy. They are great in the snow. Almost 200000 miles. Great truck. You are wrong. Different vehicles totally
FANTASTIC VEHICLE
Well, I'm just super excited 😏
Me too👊🏻
Oops, nevermind. I see you got in a couple days ago.
Really excited can't wait to see the build
Thanks man👊🏻
Please do this build broo i need this
Installing the lift kit right now🤟🏻
