Came for the doggo content and left satisfied. I love how attainable this rig is compared to a lot of typical IG overlanders. Where do you keep your camp tables and chairs? What does Linhberg use for additional camp kitchen surface area?
We didn't have a lot of money to throw at it all at once, so we built up everything over time and very slowly when we could! This is about 4 years of traveling and piecing together as we knew what we wanted. Camp table and chairs are stored in the side bins! They're all folding so they go small. And we have a cooking surface by pulling out one of the drawers and placing a cutting board on top. Super simple, but works great! Linhbergh is going to make another video focused on the camp kitchen specifically in the near future!
Pajero/Montero can be a MEAN offroad rig, especially the 2nd gen and 1st gen Sport. These cars dominated the Dakar rally. Parts are plentiful, they're legendarily reliable, there's a huge aftermarket support and they are really cheap for what they offer. If I didn't already have an Off road car, I'd buy the Pajero/Montero. Friend has one wiht 2.5 diesel and though it's not a speed demon by any means, it ran on used up motor oil for a good couple kilometers- just long enough to get us to a gas station. They're awesome and deserve a lot more love than they're getting!
Excellent video! Great motivation to keep working on the beast! (If there is a zero-oxygen environment, do you have a fire?) Hehehe GREAT JOB! (Also haven't used toilet paper in over 2 years and share your sentiment on that).
I had no idea how good this first or second gen Montero is! On the East Coast the Montero sports seem to always come in last behind the 4Runner, Pathfinder and my beloved Rodeo... and being a vehicle nerd I had no idea they were that reliable. My sister had a brand new Montero Sport in the early 2000s and I remember liking it but not loving it. I do remember hearing that it was at one time the easiest vehicle to flip in America 😱 but from the past couple of days I've learned that the Montero is apparently way better than the sport and now I'm really interested. What will make or break my interest is really how reliable the Transmissions are and from just researching last night I'm hearing that they are very reliable Transmissions. Thoughts on what year Montero I should start looking for? I was thinking the generation after yours around 2003 but now I'm really interested in your generation.
I have the generation after this. If your wanting off-road ability with ok on road driving, go the gen2 (what he has) if U want on road handling and a great sand car go the gen 3 (mine) the gen3 is a great offroader if U upgrade diffs and get lockers. It's a lot more work to get it to off road well, still very capable though. If I could pick one again I'd get a gen 4 with factory rear lsd, put a front locker with the 4.9 ratio diffs then put 2 inch suspension lift and maybe a 2 in sub frame drop and a set of 33s... Happy days

Hi enjoyed the video. Question, how do you get in your roof top tent?.... if you use a ladder, can you pull it up at night? Thanks from Alberta, Canada.
Hey you two, I have the Gen 2 Pajero (You had them as Monteros) here in Australia and would love to work out some good US sources for purchasing Mods and Accessories as well as what we have in Australia that would be of use to you and your subscribers. My 3.5l Petrol (Gasoline) V6 Gen 2 runs Tough Dog suspension with a 40 mm (just under 2 inches) lift and whilst we can find some things quite easily here which might be difficult for you to source, I have noticed that you are able to get other mods and accessories over there which are just no longer available here, such as bash plates, rock sliders, adjustable upper control arms (we are right hand drive here, so there are obvious differences) etc...
I was given the opportunity to buy a '98 Montero with almost 180k miles, and I've always wanted one for this purpose but I wasn't sure about the high miles... I'm not sure how much work you've had to do over the years on yours but hearing you say you purchased yours with similar miles and it's lasted this long, it definitely gives me hope. Thanks for the tour of your rig, hopefully I might have a similar setup in the near future!
Did you have any issues with the Check engine light coming on when you switched out your suspension? Mine went on when I had to ditch my stock shocks (gas powered) for new ones.
Sounds like a vacuum hose or sensor didn't get put back on after the install. Go to a auto parts store and have them check the code. Often times it's oxygen sensors going bad, but that would be an annoying coincidence since they are not likely to be relaxed
😎 I too have a Pajero (Montero) that I am doing an overland build on. Quite a similar setup, currently I still have the rear passenger seats, but a full DIY drawer system and fridge slide too.
