  • In this video, a series of different obstacles and the legendary Japanese SUVs:
    1. Mitsubishi Pajero 3 / Montero
    2. Toyota Land Cruiser 200/205
    3. Nissan Patrol Y60
    Mitsubishi Pajero 3 factory-made, modifications: 2-inch lift & AT tires.
    oyota Land Cruiser and Nissan Patrol have more significant changes: front and rear power bumpers, power sills, winches, an elevator and more off-road tires.
    It is difficult to call the presented tests real off-road or serious off-road, but this is enough to form an understanding of the difference in the operation of all-wheel drive systems and auxiliary systems of cars.
    Tires on cars in the video:
    Land Cruiser 205: Goodyear Duratrac 325/65/18
    Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero 3: Bridgestone Dueler A/T 693 245/75/17
    Nissan Patrol Y60: TOYO Open Country M/T 33x12.5 / 15

    For a stock SUV with a lift kit, the Pajero kicked butt. Regardless of what year each SUV is from. If the montero had proper off-road tires, snorkel and a rear locker it would more than dominate this and other comparisons. We get the 3.8L version here 👀

    The traction control system in the gen 3 Montero was way ahead of its time. Of course, front and rear lockers are better... But the TC will get the job done, plus you don't have to worry about any buttons or switches. Many gen 3 owners add an Elocker, best of both worlds.

    Pajero performs brilliantly as expected. Yes the rear over hang can be a pain and I do need to replace the rear bar on my Gen 3. This is not really a fair comparison though due to modifications and year models. Personally given none of the others had Traction Control (elec imitation) I feel you should of gone with the earlier Gen 3 which had an LSD in the back rather then TC. In saying that though an LSD and a Locker will still give different results but I do think it would of been more of a fair fight. Anyway, Love the Pajero.

  • @johnstan158

    Had two FJ40 short wheelbase cruisers, good rubber, open diffs with the heaviest drinker in history. One on LPG/petrol, the other petrol. The LPG averaged 29l per 100 km. Both had excellent departure/ramp over. I had gone to extremes on rocky hills to the point you could stop the car get out and push it downhill. My old man had the first series Pajero LWB high roof, also the first in the country. Had bigger rubber, LSD, lifted via the front torsion bars and a puny 2.6 four (which still outperformed the cruisers 4.2 six) and being in OZ the first Integrated ARB steel Bull Bar. One day I accidentally took the Pajero to the same rocky road (the same road two army guys in a army Defender died attempting), the tractive elements of Ind front suspension was apparent, besides a few more scrapes than the cruisers it bolted up the mountain like it's ass was in fire. Neither Cruiser or bike could make it, very scary backing down a rock hill of over 30% also tried my 600 Yamaha enduro bike Funny the Pajero had the gimmicky degree ball, it was handy. One thing about Pajeros including the last 3.2 unitary is front vision, with cruisers and the last Patrols is big bonnets. Having said that the 3.0 litre Patrol was very impressive. Could not take it to the same track as it had been blocked off for obvious reasons.

    you can use the brakes to help "simulate" locking diffs, cadence braking or threshold braking can accomplish pretty much the same, "brake torquing" will slow the spinning wheel down and increase torque to the tires with the greater traction, diffs split torque equally, so brake applications can increase torque where throttle alone can't

    As much as I love the y60 patrol as a twin solid axled rig ( being a solid axle fanboy) I even adorn the pajero np with a strong unibody and all independant suspension setup! The unibody provides lower CG while all independant suspension setup helps im speed offroading ! Plus the all indepentant suspension also allows in providing clearance for allowing large boylders to pass through! While the solid axles in the patrol helps in maintaining tractive force even without using lockers or TC and is helpful in large terrain shifts ! Also for climbing sand dunes in a straight line , solid axles help a lot by not compressing the underbody to the ground and that's why we can find arabs still driving solid axled super safaris ! But that could be done with even all independant suspensions with perfect lift kits and may even prove better while cornering around the dunes ! Both have their own advantages and disadvantages !

      @@totomaxwell8080 Welcome to the real world. Land cruisers and Patrol are great vehicles, but they need some modifications to do its thing as they are conceived as a sort of platform vehicles. The Mitsubishi usually is kinda underrated but is one of the most capable in stock form.

    I'm not familiar with the exact LandCruiser model you used here, but even going on the gravel/ sand/ off the road without engaging the center diff lock (which I assume this car should have), means the driver knows nothing about offroading and his car! That default mode is only for driving on the asphalt. Engaging the center diff is not like engaging the front or rear diff (which work as extra traction systems), but it is like putting a 2WD in 4WD mode, and necessary for driving on any surface other than asphalt.

  • @nawazzaygham9852
    @nawazzaygham9852 3 года назад

    It is not mentioned if this pajero has unibody construction with independent suspension. If so, an impressive performance by pajero.
    Another important point, mechanical diff locks working on only two wheels may be inferior than electronic TCS working on four wheels.
    Good channel and impressive videos.

    • @wopmf4345FxFDxdGaa20
      @wopmf4345FxFDxdGaa20 2 года назад

      Well made unibody is better for off road ( stronger in relation to weight, if you want same strength and rigidity with a ladder frame, it will be heavier ). One of the best standard 4x4's, the Jeep XJ Cherokee, also has unibody but with live axles. Independent is indeed, worse wheel travel. But in the other hand, better clearance under the axle, and the wheels can still travel down when the axle has bottomed out unlike with live axle. With a good 4WD system unibody and independent works somewhat fine off road. The big downside is that, it is a lot more difficult to lift and modify for bigger tires.
