Are we really THAT positive shanks doesnt have a devil fruit? That could be facilitating his ability to seemingly teleport through the water.. Ridiculously good theory. As Randy likes to point out a lot, One Piece has a lot of characters that want to do “good” but do it in a twisted way, like Big Mom. Shanks absolutely feels like one of those people, except more like a “necessary evil” type thing like you mention at the end. The look that Shanks and Beckmann share when he says it’s time to claim the One Piece says a lot.
I DEFINITELY think that someone in the story is gonna pull a twist. A good guy is actually bad, or a bad guy actually good. I really dont think its Shanks, just because he was raised by roger. The currents and black market 'boss' (as his crew calls him) aspect makes sense to me. I hope the human trafficking side of it isn't true. He can still deal things like treasure/fruits to the celestial dragons, but it'd be wild to see Shanks dealing kids that would have died in the wars. The currents could also explain how Rayleigh swam all the way to Amazon Lilly to train luffy! He mentioned a storm... in the calm belt? It's possible he could be talking about the white strom, or a different sea current in the sea.
I like parts of this theory, like Shanks being connected to the underground market, doing his best to keep it from affecting the general public too much, trying to keep it in check. This perfectly explains why Shanks is accepted by the WG. Him being able to master the White Strom is also a very nice idea. However, we don't know that Shanks' territory is small. We know he has one island on the surface canonically (the one invaded by Barto), and he always hangs out on some island whenever we see him. From my understanding, I think that Shanks' territory could be spread across several smaller island, along with Elbaf. His story is very closely related to that of Tyr from norse mythology too, the god that put his arm in Fenrir's mouth to make him get chained up, thereby losing his arm. His ship is also of stereotypical viking design. I think it would be very rare for another underwater city like Fishman island to exist, so I don't think that's it. It also explains why Big Mom and Kaido let Shanks take territory at all. If Shanks controlled a large chunk of the underground market, attacking him would also mean they would lose access to a lot of underworld trading, so it was in their benefit to let him become an emperor in a way.
This theory makes a lot of sense, now i see why shanks crew has no DF users because of its weakness in water. I'm pretty sure the deep water currents will have great significance , it cud possibly be one of the ways to get to laugh tall or possibly used by straw hats later to go to some places maybe to go get the weapons, the real final arc will begin only after reaching laugh tale and i can see shanks warping method will come in handy.
Regarding Rayleigh and Crocus, they both posted themselves at choke points on the Grand Line where basically every rookie pirate crew would have to pass through. I suspect there is something to that more than being able to go under water.
Regarding Kidd‘s motivation to target Shanks - I always understood that his first goal was to be recognized as a Yonko (supported by Kidd’s reaction to Luffy’s "promotion"). If your options are either Shanks, Big Mom, Kaido or Blackbeard, then the weakest seems to be Shanks since as you pointed out - not much territory, no big crew, no devil fruits. He really seems to be the easiest target out of the four.
that's a valid perspective not gonna lie. I feel like not going after a Yonko immediately could be the play too, but then again that's not kidds way, or we dont actually know kidds like general motivation because we have the filter of him wanting at the minimum revenge against shanks for arm and kaido for destroying his alliance and beating him. like had it not been for law, would luffy had laser targeting kaido? prob not. it's definitely interesting to think about
I still feel like Kidd is the one to kick Shanks out of Yonko not Blackbeard. Kidd will ally BB and Buggy knowing Shanks(his brother) got beaten by Kidd will ally to Luffy and possible Bb/Kidd vs Luffy/Buggy final face off.
@@Parvision- if not for law Luffy wouldn’t have ran into momo and kienemon so def wouldn’t have targeted kaido would’ve been full force on big mom with the whole crew and I think they would’ve taken down the BM pirates at full strength which would’ve granted him yonko status then it would’ve been a “see where it goes” but they were split and realized at half strength couldnt take big mom and her crew I like how Oda ended up pairing up the yonko and giving us something almost insurmountable but also giving us allies capable of “handling their own”

i think it's also significant that there are no known fruit users on his crew. if their domain is under the sea, having a fruit might disqualify you from joining the crew

28:11 Shanks' role doesn't overlap with these guys because Shanks is these guys' boss. Akagami is how you pronounce "Red Hair", but as a coincidence it is also how you pronounce "Dirty God". Shanks is very likely the top dog of the entire criminal Underworld, not just the Underworld of the Sea. I love this theory and posted about it on Worstgen in 2020 in the thread "Shanks is the head of the Underworld". check it out. There is a LOT of symbolic and thematic evidence for Shanks being the head of the Underworld. I think we're seeing the same vision here.

I’d actually find Shanks being an evil person that stands against Luffy and actually want to steal the One piece from him more believable to him being a human/child trafficker. See there is only one reason, in the subsequent chapter it shows that shanks actually care about children when he saw a flashback of (Luffy, Momo, Hiyori) So I find it unbelievable that he would traffic children. Him being evil as wanting to steal the one piece from Luffy I’d actually like and love if that came true.
soo what i would say is that i think the part of focus that i wanted to make was the reverse parallel of mother caramel. mother caramel was running an Orphanage on the outside, and a human trafficking ring on the inside. What i think shanks is doing is that the world would see him as an evil organization, but he is actually doing it for good reasons. Basically the same way ohara was just researching history, but the marines would call that demon research. Or luffy taking down the world government when he just wants to save his friends. so your point of shanks caring about children is the exact thing that i am talking about, he cares enough to want to help them, but as a pirate anything he'd do would be labeled badly

Fantastic video as always! I would just like to add about they way shanks and his crew travel so quickly. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the member of his crew that we've seen the most of (maybe tied with Ben Beckman), and that's "lucky rou". We know that Oda has a deep fascination with older western comics, so much so that the inperstion for one piece was a little known comic by the name of "vicke viking". What's an other old influential western comic? "Lucky Luke" a cowboy that was known for being faster than his own shadow. I think it's pretty clear that "lucky rue" gets his name from said cowboy but furthermore I think it hints at hit DF power. The inverse of foxys, the power to enhance the speed of things. There are 2 hints to this, one being the fight with the mountain bandits where Rue basically teleports next to the bandit leader to shoot him in the head. The other being his constant eating, if he's a "speed human" he might have a hyperactive motabolism, forcing him to eat all the time. It's just a theory I've had for some time, but I think it's curious that we've seen so much from Rue (relative to the rest of the Red Hairs) without his scenes and his role having some significance. I dropped a Shanks Vid myself like two Weeks ago and arrived @ practically the same Conclusion as you, Brother. :D :D :D You just are more literal with your interpretation of Shanks. I call him the Emperor of the entire Underworld throughout the world. This explains one of the Old Mysteries that I've had about Shanks for like a Decade now. You went with Slavery and Human Trafficking. I came to the Conclusion of Alcohol and maybe Narcotics. The Slave Trade would make sense too because of the Golden Age of Piracy in the Caribbean. There were Pirates who took out Slave Ships. The Red-Haired Man is the Most Piratesque of all Pirates in the One Piece world and its History.
What a great theory! I think this is the best, well-researched theory on Shanks I've ever seen. ever. what you said totally makes sense, that Shanks is the king of the underworld in One Piece. Particularly the fast travel. I would go even a step further that Shanks' crew not only control the deep sea current but also control traveling through the clouds (or sky islands). Because I vaguely remember when we first met Gunfall in Skypiea he told us that there are ways to arrive at Skypiea NOT through the knock-up stream like the Strawhats and knock-up stream is one of the old dangerous ways to travel to sky islands. the thing is, traveling through the deep sea would require coating the ship and then diving into the current or white strom, and it took three days for Rayleigh to coat the Thousand Sunny. I think Shanks need another mode of travel / transportation besides the deep sea currents if the ship needs coating all the time. or if you really think about it, Shanks' ship should even be a submarine to make the deep-sea current travel more reliable. about the human trafficking part, it's hard to accept but it's probably true. I would love to see how Oda explains all of this to us. Looking forward to more theories of yours!

I can absolutely buy into the possibility of Shanks controlling the undersea currents as his territory as that would go a long way to explain some big questions about him. Not only the things you mentioned, but also how he funds his operation. Human trafficking isn't even necessary. If he has taken control of this undersea highway, then he can set whatever access cost he chooses for people to use it. And I could imagine him having a standing arrangement with the guy that is the transporter of the underworld where he receives a rather substantial regular payment in exchange for open access. Anyone that doesn't like the fees he charges for use can take the old fashioned way by sailing on the blue sea, or they try to sneak through and end up facing the might of the Red-Hair Pirates. As for Kid going after Shanks, it's possible that he has some particular grudge Shanks, but I think it's more simple than that. As you said, for anyone not in the know, Shanks appears to be rather weak. He's not commonly known for controlling a large territory like Big Mom, he's not widely spoken of as "Strongest (whatever) in the World" like Whitebeard or Kaido. From the point of view of someone like Kid (who is very similar to Luffy in that he doesn't usually think too deeply about things or do the work digging for extra information before making plans and taking action, but rather just acts based on his immediate perception of the situation), he wanted the recognition of taking down a Yonko, and Shanks seemed like the easiest and weakest target, so he directed his efforts against Shanks. When that went south HARD, he finally decided to join an alliance to focus on Kaido instead. Post-Wano, after playing a big role in taking down Big Mom, his confidence was once again elevated mbut his pride had taken a blow because Luffy was named a Yonko for defeating Kaido while he just got a marginal increase to his bounty, even though he felt like he had done just as much as Luffy did. Between the bruised ego from not being declared a Yonko alongside Luffy and the boosted confidence of being instrumental in the defeat of Big Mom, he once again felt he was ready for Shanks, AND he felt he had something to prove (to the world, to Luffy, possibly even to himself). On top of that, whether it was Shanks himself or some other member of his crew, the Red-Hair Pirates were still responsible for taking his arm, probably almost killing him, and DEFINITELY humiliating him (at least in his own perception), so he wanted some payback. With all of those factors combined, we have Kid arrive at Elbaf and find the Red-Hair Pirates, so he was absolutely going to try to take advantage of the situation and put Shanks down. But, as we know, that didn't end well for Kid. As for Shanks being able to walk in on the Gorosei as he did, I still feel like the theory that Shanks has a twin that is still with the World Government has merit; not only is there the very Shanks-like silhouette among the God Knights, but in the scene with the Gorosei, Oda went to great lengths to ensure we never saw his left side, most likely to hide an arm that shouldn't be there and the absence of scars on his face. Additionally, I've heard people mention an alleged interview with Oda where he was directly asked if Shanks has a brother, but his answer was edited out in both the broadcast and transcripts. With regards to Sengoku's "Only because it's you, Shanks," it's entirely possible that Shanks has at some point done something that was of great help to the Marines, and probably Sengoku in particular. Think of how the Roger Pirates helped protect God Valley. A key event in the history of the One Piece world, but we didn't know anything about it until very recently, only when it was relevant and Oda was ready demonstrate the parallels to current events. Is it not just as possible that the Red-Hair Pirates had a part in some major as-yet-unrevealed event that left Sengoku feeling that he owes Shanks? Altogether, I just don't see a way Shanks has or would even want a role in the slave trade of the One Piece world. It just doesn't line up with ANYTHING we know about his character, and he certainly is NOT naive enough to believe that he would be helping war-orphans by selling them to the Tenryubito to be used as, manual labor, human shields, or whatever other disgusting use they find for their slaves in the moment.

I'm pretty sure the deep water currents will have great significance , it cud possibly be one of the ways to get to laugh tall or possibly used by straw hats later to go to some places maybe to go get the weapons, the real final arc will begin only after reaching laugh tale and i can see shanks warping method will come in handy.

Regarding Rayleigh and Crocus, they both posted themselves at choke points on the Grand Line where basically every rookie pirate crew would have to pass through. I suspect there is something to that more than being able to go under water.
Regarding Kidd‘s motivation to target Shanks - I always understood that his first goal was to be recognized as a Yonko (supported by Kidd’s reaction to Luffy’s "promotion").
If your options are either Shanks, Big Mom, Kaido or Blackbeard, then the weakest seems to be Shanks since as you pointed out - not much territory, no big crew, no devil fruits.
He really seems to be the easiest target out of the four.

I feel like not going after a Yonko immediately could be the play too, but then again that's not kidds way, or we dont actually know kidds like general motivation because we have the filter of him wanting at the minimum revenge against shanks for arm and kaido for destroying his alliance and beating him. like had it not been for law, would luffy had laser targeting kaido? prob not. it's definitely interesting to think about

Shanks is very likely the top dog of the entire criminal Underworld, not just the Underworld of the Sea. I love this theory and posted about it on Worstgen in 2020 in the thread "Shanks is the head of the Underworld". check it out. There is a LOT of symbolic and thematic evidence for Shanks being the head of the Underworld. I think we're seeing the same vision here.

I’d actually find Shanks being an evil person that stands against Luffy and actually want to steal the One piece from him more believable to him being a human/child trafficker. See there is only one reason, in the subsequent chapter it shows that shanks actually care about children when he saw a flashback of (Luffy, Momo, Hiyori) So I find it unbelievable that he would traffic children. Him being evil as wanting to steal the one piece from Luffy I’d actually like and love if that came true.
soo what i would say is that i think the part of focus that i wanted to make was the reverse parallel of mother caramel. mother caramel was running an Orphanage on the outside, and a human trafficking ring on the inside. What i think shanks is doing is that the world would see him as an evil organization, but he is actually doing it for good reasons. Basically the same way ohara was just researching history, but the marines would call that demon research. Or luffy taking down the world government when he just wants to save his friends. so your point of shanks caring about children is the exact thing that i am talking about, he cares enough to want to help them, but as a pirate anything he'd do would be labeled badly

I would just like to add about they way shanks and his crew travel so quickly. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the member of his crew that we've seen the most of (maybe tied with Ben Beckman), and that's "lucky rou". We know that Oda has a deep fascination with older western comics, so much so that the inperstion for one piece was a little known comic by the name of "vicke viking". What's an other old influential western comic? "Lucky Luke" a cowboy that was known for being faster than his own shadow. I think it's pretty clear that "lucky rue" gets his name from said cowboy but furthermore I think it hints at hit DF power. The inverse of foxys, the power to enhance the speed of things. There are 2 hints to this, one being the fight with the mountain bandits where Rue basically teleports next to the bandit leader to shoot him in the head. The other being his constant eating, if he's a "speed human" he might have a hyperactive motabolism, forcing him to eat all the time. It's just a theory I've had for some time, but I think it's curious that we've seen so much from Rue (relative to the rest of the Red Hairs) without his scenes and his role having some significance.

I dropped a Shanks Vid myself like two Weeks ago and arrived @ practically the same Conclusion as you, Brother. :D :D :D You just are more literal with your interpretation of Shanks. I call him the Emperor of the entire Underworld throughout the world. This explains one of the Old Mysteries that I've had about Shanks for like a Decade now. You went with Slavery and Human Trafficking. I came to the Conclusion of Alcohol and maybe Narcotics. The Slave Trade would make sense too because of the Golden Age of Piracy in the Caribbean. There were Pirates who took out Slave Ships. The Red-Haired Man is the Most Piratesque of all Pirates in the One Piece world and its History.

What a great theory! I think this is the best, well-researched theory on Shanks I've ever seen. ever. what you said totally makes sense, that Shanks is the king of the underworld in One Piece. Particularly the fast travel. I would go even a step further that Shanks' crew not only control the deep sea current but also control traveling through the clouds (or sky islands). Because I vaguely remember when we first met Gunfall in Skypiea he told us that there are ways to arrive at Skypiea NOT through the knock-up stream like the Strawhats and knock-up stream is one of the old dangerous ways to travel to sky islands.
the thing is, traveling through the deep sea would require coating the ship and then diving into the current or white strom, and it took three days for Rayleigh to coat the Thousand Sunny. I think Shanks need another mode of travel / transportation besides the deep sea currents if the ship needs coating all the time. or if you really think about it, Shanks' ship should even be a submarine to make the deep-sea current travel more reliable.
about the human trafficking part, it's hard to accept but it's probably true. I would love to see how Oda explains all of this to us. Looking forward to more theories of yours!

I can absolutely buy into the possibility of Shanks controlling the undersea currents as his territory as that would go a long way to explain some big questions about him. Not only the things you mentioned, but also how he funds his operation. Human trafficking isn't even necessary. If he has taken control of this undersea highway, then he can set whatever access cost he chooses for people to use it. And I could imagine him having a standing arrangement with the guy that is the transporter of the underworld where he receives a rather substantial regular payment in exchange for open access. Anyone that doesn't like the fees he charges for use can take the old fashioned way by sailing on the blue sea, or they try to sneak through and end up facing the might of the Red-Hair Pirates. As for Kid going after Shanks, it's possible that he has some particular grudge Shanks, but I think it's more simple than that. As you said, for anyone not in the know, Shanks appears to be rather weak. He's not commonly known for controlling a large territory like Big Mom, he's not widely spoken of as "Strongest (whatever) in the World" like Whitebeard or Kaido. From the point of view of someone like Kid (who is very similar to Luffy in that he doesn't usually think too deeply about things or do the work digging for extra information before making plans and taking action, but rather just acts based on his immediate perception of the situation), he wanted the recognition of taking down a Yonko, and Shanks seemed like the easiest and weakest target, so he directed his efforts against Shanks. When that went south HARD, he finally decided to join an alliance to focus on Kaido instead. Post-Wano, after playing a big role in taking down Big Mom, his confidence was once again elevated mbut his pride had taken a blow because Luffy was named a Yonko for defeating Kaido while he just got a marginal increase to his bounty, even though he felt like he had done just as much as Luffy did. Between the bruised ego from not being declared a Yonko alongside Luffy and the boosted confidence of being instrumental in the defeat of Big Mom, he once again felt he was ready for Shanks, AND he felt he had something to prove (to the world, to Luffy, possibly even to himself). On top of that, whether it was Shanks himself or some other member of his crew, the Red-Hair Pirates were still responsible for taking his arm, probably almost killing him, and DEFINITELY humiliating him (at least in his own perception), so he wanted some payback. With all of those factors combined, we have Kid arrive at Elbaf and find the Red-Hair Pirates, so he was absolutely going to try to take advantage of the situation and put Shanks down. But, as we know, that didn't end well for Kid. As for Shanks being able to walk in on the Gorosei as he did, I still feel like the theory that Shanks has a twin that is still with the World Government has merit; not only is there the very Shanks-like silhouette among the God Knights, but in the scene with the Gorosei, Oda went to great lengths to ensure we never saw his left side, most likely to hide an arm that shouldn't be there and the absence of scars on his face. Additionally, I've heard people mention an alleged interview with Oda where he was directly asked if Shanks has a brother, but his answer was edited out in both the broadcast and transcripts. With regards to Sengoku's "Only because it's you, Shanks," it's entirely possible that Shanks has at some point done something that was of great help to the Marines, and probably Sengoku in particular. Think of how the Roger Pirates helped protect God Valley. A key event in the history of the One Piece world, but we didn't know anything about it until very recently, only when it was relevant and Oda was ready demonstrate the parallels to current events. Is it not just as possible that the Red-Hair Pirates had a part in some major as-yet-unrevealed event that left Sengoku feeling that he owes Shanks?
Altogether, I just don't see a way Shanks has or would even want a role in the slave trade of the One Piece world. It just doesn't line up with ANYTHING we know about his character, and he certainly is NOT naive enough to believe that he would be helping war-orphans by selling them to the Tenryubito to be used as, manual labor, human shields, or whatever other disgusting use they find for their slaves in the moment.
