- 6 months ago, a Stardew Valley speedrunner performed the most INSANE speedrun to ever exist, so today I'm here to unpack that legendary tale.

My mentality for going for LH was, "The run will get to this point sometime. Someone will eventually try this. Why not be that someone and make everyone else grind for LH? XD"
But yeah, this run is "easily" beaten with a LH and urchin same day. You just have to grind for it XD

Tbh if someone wanted it hard enough they could beat this. Granted you got 60 weeds per attempt and it took 2 minutes per reset, it would take 55 hours on average to get a living hat. All you need from there is slight movement optimization after not seeing a urchin on day 10 or getting one day 10 and then you have the unbeatable run. Mad props to Chikorita to for attempting this run tbh.
Just crazy enough to try and get lucky in a few resets XD I probably spent more time doing Egg Festival runs than LH resets. (I've since tried to get another LH but no luck in 200ish resets.)
Honestly 55 hours is not a lot of time compared to the absolute bonkers amounts of time that speedrunners put into things. The things they do to compete is absurd.
Because of his setback of not having an urchin and not realizing he had the hat someone can theoretically optimize this
I have gotten the living hat on the first day of a playthrough and didn't even know it was a hat despite having played sdv for a year up till then. One of my favourite hats tbh very underrated
that was me when i first started playing stardew- i thought it was just grass, i was wondering why it wont stack with the others ;w; (found out it was a hat after hovering over and was like OH)

Wouldn't the Garbage Hat be a viabel route? The chances are much better with 0.2% per trash can, after opening 20.
There's only 8 cans so, best case scenario, it would take at least 3 days of going to every can, then going all the way home to sleep. I'm not sure if the walking time would be worth it but if it is, you'd still have to be really lucky to get it on day 3. Probably possible but not as optimal as the living hat route cause the cans are so far away
no, even if you got it on the 20th can it would be much much much longer than the straw hat route

@@kill4karma you cant open cans in the festival either so you gotta goo to town 4 times. Definetly slower
@@sanddr. it cant spawn before you opened 20 cans, so it could technically spawn the earliest on the 21st can (or maybe 20 is counted before its calculated, so maybe 20 is possible, but that still very slow)

Great video. Just had to run back to my longest played file to check if I ever found this hat without noticing how rare it was. And sure enough, forgotten in a dresser next to my bed: there it is.

With 40 attempts breaking 55 fiber each time there is a 2,2% chance that one would get the hat, so not exactly that rare

I remember the time where I got the hat on my first play through of SV on the first spring thinking its just a trash hat so I trashed it :)

I remember finding a Living Hat randomly and didn't know how rare it was, I wore it around for a while bc I thought it was funny and much later I found out about how rare it actually was and I was just like "oh cool"
the Living Hat is like Pokemon shiny hunting but worse lol
WOW I can't believe it, but I beat Chikorita's time... I got a 5:02.480 I'm stunned, over 1000 hours of playtime and 1 min 30 into a run and I get the living hat for my first time EVER, beyond happy with this! Thanks for the idea Seanie, have a great new year pal!

I started playing Stardew less than a week ago and I already have the hat. I didn't realise it was so rare. This is insane to me.
I also got 2 dinosaur eggs from fishing in one day (fall year 1) but donated one and sold another not realising how useful they are. 🙃
I have rickrolled on my first playthrough of stardew valley too. When I got the ancient seed and I went to gunther for a ancient seed pack, I planted it on the ground on 6th day or so, because I thought that all seasons lasts around 30 days, not 28, so ancient seed died on the 1st day of fall xd

idea to beat: sleep until day 19 and get sea urchin
step 2: check a few cans to get garbage hat
step 3: wait for shop to open and get new wr

I don't play much stardew, haven't touched it in years actually, but as someone who plays lots of games with lots of rng drops 1/100k doesn't seem that bad tbh, I've gotten multiple drops in other games that are 1/15 million or higher and that's without actually aiming for them, tho I suppose the act of actually pursuing a drop that rare vs randomly getting blessed with the drop are 2 very different things as even farming for drops with a 1/400 chance is tedious at best

I doubt anyone would believe it, but I got bored one day and downloaded this game thinking I’ll give it a shot, I loaded into my first game and got a living hat within like the first minute of clearing out the land and had no clue how rare it really was, it was just sitting in a chest somewhere until I saw how rare it really was

As someone who got the living hat in spring one, i can confirm i never heard of the hat until i got it.
I actually got a living hat during my first play through ever and thought it wasn’t rare because it was “so easy” to get

I got the hat after I collected one piece of weed near me the second I spawned in the game and I was so confused why I had *living hat* in my inventory 😭
I may have never gotten the living hat but im vibing with my garbage hat in my current run
It's a shame you have to open 20 cans before you can get the garbage hat, or you could do this even faster.

He also had to deal with the stupid owl statue cause you didn’t see it on the left side of the screen just above the sea urchin so that must’ve cut into his time as well
I always laugh when i hear someone playing the game for like 800+ hours and never getting the living hat... When i got stardew valley and created my first farm. I got the living hat in the 1st or 2nd day, at first I didn't know what it was but i thought it was funny so i would wear it around n i almost trash it, im so glad i never did cause i still have my first farm ever even though i never really used it again but i like to keep it just because of that reason
I spent hours trying to get the living hat on my main stardew world because idk it’s cute then made a new world for something else and got it in less than an hour by accident. I was so mad and I haven’t played that world since because I want to keep the time as a memory lmao
Considering games with crazy chances like binding of Isaac this doesn't seem impossible to beat in the slightest

as another person commented, you need to open at least 20 trash cans before even getting the chance to get the hat, and there’s only 8 cans on the map. so the player would have to run around to each can for at least 3 days, going back home each day to sleep, so it actually wouldn’t be all that fast.

i got the living hat really early in the game. i don't actually know when, i didn't notice i picked it up until i saw it in my inventory. it was in the first spring though, and it was my first time playing the game.

He got the hat after cutting down 55 fiber? I mean, it's not that crazy, considering how many attempts he probably went through. You'll eventually get the living hat after cutting down your first fiber, if you have enough attempts

I got the living hat when I was trying to get to a purple mushroom on my forest farm (on the switch) and I had to take a walk after immediately going to bed to save it.
i have the living hat in my save, i wasn't even looking for it i was just trying to clear my farm lol
with so much scandals about rng in speedruns it's hard to belive that's truly legit and i don't even care... congrats for the record

I have only over 580 hours in stardew, and I have a living hat
I remember just so happening to stumble upon the living hat on my first file in my first year of spring

my first playthrough i got a Living Hat in my first 20 mins and threw it out because i thought it was useless & needed inventory space lol

So you just need to get the living hat at the first break and the needeed forage right after to get the WR

this run reminds me a lot of hollow knight's menderbug% where any sane person would keep fishing for menderbug in one run, but to get the record you gotta reset and get him first try
