- Welcome to Black Opal Direct!
Personally, I like surprises. Well, most of them.
I DON'T like when I think I have leftover fish tacos and I'm surprised to find out that my family ate them while I wasn't looking. I DO like when an opal turns out way better than I expected.
Thankfully, today it's not a mourning-the-loss-of-fish-tacos kind of day.
Join me as I get the best kind of surprise an opal cutter can get - a great gem!

In all honesty, that stone is stunning, even before cut

That little dance at the end caught me off guard. 10/10 would watch again
Justin it must be hard on your ears on the live streams without the ear protection. Take care of yourself you give so many of us joy beyond what you can imagine. You must have been enchanted watching your own father work the opals. You are so blessed!

I have to agree on all counts. I think it is an incredibly beautiful stone.

Another great gem opal from the best cutter in the business.
Rodney Maynor thank you. Very kind of you
@@blackopaldirect only speaking facts Justin. I've been watching your video's for quite some time now. Not only are you a great cutter but also a wonderful teacher. I have learned a lot just watching you. I hope to move to lightning ridge in two year's time. Hopefully we can meet once I do and I can watch you in person. I hope to become a minner of fine opal and if my dreams come true I'll never want for anything ever again. Chasing the rainbow of opal dreams.
This this job must be hard on the fingers! But how rewarding 🤗❤️
Beautiful ! Love it ! Tks so much Justin 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
BEAUTIFUL! I would probably get killed staring at it all the time and not pay attention to anything else 🤗🤗. Walk right into traffic in an opal trance. 😂😂.
Yes opal fever can have that effect. Best thing to do is find some black and white glasses 😆
omg. This is one of my all time favorites; that purple is absolutely beautiful!
Haven't watched your channel in a few months and the music and dancing caught me off guard - living for it. Thanks for entertaining a fellow Aussie rock nerd. 👌
Hello I'm so addicted watching anything to do with gold and opals because the beauty in both is so amazing and the colors of opals makes my heart pound .good videos !!
Thank you for explaining the colour , and body tone , rating - and why it is a crystal .
That stone is thicc! Loving the mini dance party 😂
Watching you is hypnotic so glad I found you, and my stone of choice love your work greetings from Wales 😁

Now we're talking Opal and Blue.👍💙
- Excellent art again Justin💎 Thank you so much Boss.
Thank you Mr
I want to put it like this: Although the stone "only" reaches a 3 on the scale and not a 4, I would appreciate to have it ... (... should I ever be able to afford it!)
Who wouldn't want to have it?
I love opals. 😍❤️😍
Gorgeous! First time I've seen a cut black opal!
Very cool if you subscribe you will see more 😊🙏
It's a a beautiful stone...well done!
Each to his own...said the farmer as he kissed the pig!
Be still my heart !!! My favorite color of all !
That baby glows. Good job!
Watched and rewatched this. Theres nothing like watching a crafts man at work.
You know, justin, all other shows are just potch, and YOU are the opal, a very shiny one. Thanks for making this show
Oh what a gorgeous cut!
Beautiful stone. I like to watch a master craftsman work their magic.
Almonte Paolilli thank you
I havent seen your videos until now. I liked it. This is peaceful. Its easy to relax to. You'll be seeing a lot more of my comments from now on, because Im hooked!
Thank you 🙏 please subscribe so you can see more 😊
To my mind you have studied that stone for hours before you cut it. It was like you had become friends and it was just waiting to shine for you. Great cut. Thanks for sharing.
exactly how it should be. Nicely put :-)
These were made in the dream time for sure
This is one of my favorite stones you have done, guess I like the crystal opals!
Beautiful!
Mesmerizing Black Opal.
Great job on the stone and smiles on the almost dance.
TymeRyder haha thanks
Ohhhhhh Justin, that totally deserves a few more beats! It was fun to see you dance at all though. Thanks for all the great info ♥
hahaha
Boy oh boy, Justin. You sure do have the touch for bringing out the very best a stone has to offer. Love watching your technique, wish I had more than just a Dremel to work the stones I get here in Idaho, USA. But the ones here mostly form in the pockets of lava rocks and so aren’t usually very sizable, but have lots of beautiful fire anyway! You can bet I’d be doing a world class Happy Dance if I came upon a stone like that.
Ok, waiting (patiently. . . not!) for your next video, lol!
Haha thank you for the kind words
I feel like you are like Bob Ross, Everytime I think you're doing something and you've messed it up and you come out with a gorgeous piece of art. I am still pretty sure if someone gave you a square opal that was decent you'd go make it an oval lol.
I'm addicted to Lightning Ridge and you are not helping my addiction at all
Absolute beauty mate , love your channel and work 👍👍
Thank you Clint
Nice work , I love the way you dance
Wow I dont think I've ever seen a black crystal opal, at least you got a decent high dome out of it!
Beautiful just beautiful!
💙Black Crystal Opal!💙
You know I love the BLUE ones! ✨
I love this channel so much haha his silly personality combined with his sage-like expertise is entertaining.
Thank you. I appreciate you following

Omg I didn't think you'd actually read my comment let alone reply!
Hello!! :)
A question if I may since I have your attention!
I was wondering, are there times when you'd decide the stone is more valuable in a raw-er state than smoothing it out potentially grinding off too much?
Or are they always more valuable as a finished cabochon(s)?
I was JUST thinking about how much I missed watching your videos! What perfect timing!!
I'm glad my timing was right :-)
😂😂😂 love the wee dance at the end. Cool video mate
You crack me up Justin especially at the end there.
Thank you 😊 😆
This is the most beautiful one yet
Thanks for the upload!!
It’s beautiful
Not going to lie, seeing the old basement studio makes me nostalgic. The new studio IS better, but I have good memories from seeing this place :) 9:45 made me smile nice and big, and this gem was so exciting to see even before it was cut in to a beautiful polished gem!
Ooooh that's the size I love 'em! Another Gorgeous one! Thanks for sharing with us!
Welcome 🙏
Dry wit and beautiful stone, makes me smile.
It's lovely in it's natural form as well..i think I'd love to have a few of them just as a centerpiece loke in a pretty wooden bowl.
Also, it's lovely cut and polished as well, my grandad(one of them)was a gemstone cutter as well, so I appreciate both❤
I can tell all I need to know about your skill at what you do by looking at your hands brother. You have hands that I can see are hands that have worked your craft. I can see the know how just looking at the fact that those hands have been used to work. Great vids keep them coming. It is obivious you know your trade.
Thanks Joel Yes these hards have seen a lot of work on opals
Thank you so very much for sharing Justin! I love your Channel, I think you are very knowledgeable ,down to earth and yet humorous at the same time. Would you please help me Identify some of the cut Opals in my collection, if I may send you pictures some how? Thank you so very much,Cory me and my wife just love ya!!!
Thanks Cory I appreciate the kind words :-)
Another great video. Thank you.
you are so welcome Richard
I enjoyed your dance sir🥰🥰😁😁i really appreciate ☺☺☺☺😁😁
I love the purple/blue, so pretty.
Justin. Man .. your rubbing the best...I'm learning from you. Love your videos.
Thankyou David please subscribe if you haven't
That is really nice. I'd mainly seen white opals before.
I love the colors, and the 'prismatic' flash increases the value; as it appears to be faceted as a cabochon and will definitely draw attention to the wearer :)
Love your videos! Keep up the awesome work
Very nice stone. Looks like a Blue Turtle shell. ;D
I love your work, im a geologist student from Mexico. Opals have a special place on my heart. Hope one day I could learn to cut gems, right now I just do thin sections, it's really therapeutic haha.
Nice to hear you love opal ❤️
This description had me cracking up man, i know what it feels like when your leftovers get munched
Awesome work Justin! So pumped to try my hand on those beginner parcels from your site!! And to buy more as well XD Woooooooot!!!
Durp Mullard awesome you will have to give it a go
That is a beautiful rock!!! Im not as crazy about the ones with red and orange, but blue lil green and purple!! WOW!!!!
Id love to see a stone like that polished in a tumbler. I just think so much stone goes to waste when its ground into a shape. Opals like this are beautiful in their rough shape.
My man got some moves XD
Such a beautiful stone great work and of course its all because of the skills u got
Keep it up 😍❤️👌🏻😁
Nikito Vitch shucks Thank you
That's a pretty good looking Stone thanks for uploading
Beautiful piece, as always. I put this video on the television and my husband watched it, too :) Thanks for doing these videos! Someday I'll buy one of your gorgeous black opals and turn it into jewelry. In the meantime, I love watching from the perspective of a rockhound.
LeiLani Doornbosch thank you 🙏 I am glad you enjoy watching
I appreciate a polished knob
This stone is gorgeous. My kind of ring stone.
This guy is a madman at how fast he pictures in his mind the cut he is going to take out of a rough stone and then gets to it.
What an interesting video! Loved it! Thankyou for sharing your talent and knowledge! May have to purchase one of those beautiful pieces one day!
