- A very enjoyable, cold and wet afternoon spent at Peterborough on the East Coast Mainline where we see plenty of services from Thameslink, Greater Anglia, Cross Country, East Midlands Railway, London Northeastern Railway, Hull Trains, Grand Central and freight from Freightliner, GBRF and DB Cargo UK.
This wasn't the original station to be found at Peterborough. In 1845 Peterborough East was opened by the Eastern Counties Railway with their line running from Ely to Peterborough and the line running from Peterborough to Northampton which now forms part of the Nene Valleyn Railway heritage line. The line from Northampton to Peterborough was built by the London and Birmingham Railway. In 1846 there was another line built going from Syston to Peterborough. In 1862 the Eastern Counties Railway became a part of the Great Eastern Railway.
Two years later the Great Northern Railway arrived on the scene when the opened up their portion of the line going from Peterborough, Spalding, Boston and Lincoln, when the line was being constructed their trains from London were using the ECR station at Peterborough East but was decided fairly on that they would need their own station. This was officially opened in 1850, two years before Kings Cross was named as the official terminus of the East Coast Mainline.
Peterborough East was closed in 1966 and Peterborough North was renamed for a second time to Peterborough which is now the current station.
The station went through several stages of modernisation where the line was electrified to having more platforms built to deal with the ever increasing demand in traffic aswell as having holding lines for freight passing through the station.
Joining me today was Transport Spotter Luke so please do check out his channel as he has some great content for you all to enjoy.
My next station will actually be actually be Witham on the Great Eastern Mainline.

Great Video. My Biggleswade video on the same day at the same time is like a mirror of this from further up the line!
Thanks very much bud, I loved filming here. The variety was excellent throughout!
Reminds me of when class 43 intercity 125 used to run on east coast mainline. I miss intercity 125 alot
Yep me to all you see now is azuma's and the odd freight
I miss the IC125s as well. They still run on the Midland Main Line: all of LNER's 125s have gone to EMR. EMR's 125s are being taken out of service (most sadly meeting their fate).
On the MML we have 43s and 222s, and the 43s are far better :).
@@TheSpotify95 43s will always be better hahaha, All i see now is the odd class 91, and very rarely a class 180, mostly just see 800,1,2s
At least the 91 stay on the ECML which is good to see 👍.
They really staying. They'll be gone in 3 years.
@@gwtvideos9434 which it will be sad to see them gone on the ECML :(
Atleast we still get to see them for the time being on revenue earning service on the ECML
Great vid
Tornado:you can't get the 91s
Me : can the hsts
Great video as always Tornado922, great range of trains captured.
Thanks very much, Peterborough is always a favourite station of mine to come to
those 800s have some of the best acceleration i have ever seen!!
Most modern trains nowadays seem to have incredible acceleration
Much whine, very sqeak but yes they are pretty quick.
I saw 66754 recently and it needed a clean too except the one I saw was carrying different wagons
Wow I love these videos they are so amazing
Thank you kindly for saying so
Lovely video keep the good work nice to see you again 👍😊
Thanks very much bud, it was great to meet up once more
Fantastic video! I really enjoyed this :)

It's Refreshing to See a Clean 66
There is the odd one or two clean ones running about
Another good video. Stay safe during these difficult times.
Thank you kindly!
Great video m8 :)
2:55 That was the doors locking on the train. It happens all the time as Class 800's depart stations
Thanks very much and thanks for the information in regards to that sound :)
Nice to see new Tanpps freight cars at 9:03😉 I don`t know them from my area, but they look nice at this unified consist with 66 clash at the head😉 Liked and enjoyed👍
I'm glad you enjoyed watching this
Brilliant Video, Peterborough is a great location on the East Coast Main Line.

Great Video mate not been Peterborough for ages I must admit when all this covid-19 is over I'm going to try and get out and about more
Thanks very much, this is a great station to go to, I highly recommend that you come down on a weekday as you get so much more variety here in my opinion
Great video Tornado922
Thanks very much
You do good videos
Keep up the awesome work mate, love your videos, hopefully when things are back to a sense of normal, you could do some filming at exeter st davids
Thanks very much bud, once things have sorted themselves out I'm sure I will be back down there at some stage. Most likely during the summer period of next year with any luck
@@Tornado922 i look forward to it and fingers crossed next summer will be alot smoothers and hopefully we wont have to wear masks at the station any more.

Great trainspotting
Thanks very much
The sound that the class 80Xs make when departing, is the doors locking shut
Thanks for letting me know
My home town
Great video 👍
Thanks very much
Awesome video Jarred. 66754 Northampton Saints, my favourite rugby team. Lots of variety which is always good to see and freight aplenty. Think the Azumas have the best livery of all the class 800's .
Northampton Saints are my local rugby team!! I've been supporting them ever since I first started playing rugby when I was a kid! Peterborough is an amazing station to come to, especially during the week
I absolutely love your videos, been watching them for a while. I've lived in Boro a few times and loved travelling by train. Couple of things...I agree with you that the 225 set is the best, it has kind of inherited the feel of the 125. Also, what is it with the squeaky brakes on the 800's? Weird. Anyhow, love the video, I now live in Yorkshire so it's good to see my old stomping ground. Many Thanks....
The 91 is better locomotive than the Azumas.
@@arnoldspottingvideos5269 The Azumas are not locomotives and are units.
I'm guessing it's because it's a modern train becaise modern trains have squeaky breaks
@Nick Annies, thanks very much I'm glad you've been enjoying my content so thank you for continuously supporting the channel it really is greatly appreciated. I love filming at Peterborough it's one of my favourite stations to do on the southern section of the ECML. Seems to be that most modern trains have squeaky brakes. The 225 sets do have a long and good history on the ECML and of course you can't forget the service that the HST had on here, they were for a very long time the backbone of the intercity services across the country.
great video
Thanks very much
I like Train you make the best videos I would like you to go to 2 Penzance please please please please
Great Video 👍
🙄
Thanks very much
Hi Jarrod that cluck u heard is the interlocking door locks engaging to make sure the doors are secured for travel
Ah right ok, thanks very much for letting me know :)
Yay a new video
Nice video jarred 👍
Thanks very much bud :)
@@Tornado922 no problem
Awesome video J loved the 91 i could watch them all day long as i used to . IM not a great fan of the 800s they have great acceleration but comfy wise not very good for a long journey only traveled in them from Peterborough to newark north gate
sure would,nt want to go to Scotland on one :( can,t beat the mk 4s look forward to your next video J stay safe mate A T B Syd
Thanks very much bud I'm glad you enjoyed watching this, the longest journey I have done on a class 800 was from London Paddington to Exeter St Davids and truth be told I found the ride to be perfectly acceptable. But you definitely can't beat the seats on a MK3 or a MK4!!
i used too work p-way in peterborough when did they add the platform on the up fast ?
4:11 - RIP Headphone users
It was bad enough with no headphones.
I completely agree, the breaks on that freight train could seriously do with some oiling!
@@ClaretBlueTrainspotter Yeah
Standing next to it was bad enough for me
@@Tornado922 I feel most sorry for your hearing, and anyone else who was with you
When the class 800 clicks it’s so people know that the doors are closed
Thanks for letting me know
Tornado922 your welcome
Anybody know why they have changed the signage at all East coast main line stations. the signs used to say coach A/B C/D E/F and so on. So with a pre booked seat you knew where to stand on the platform, Now they have ZONE 1 ZONE 2 ZONE 3 and so on. How does this relate to some one with a ticket for coach J first class
My only assumption as to why the signage has changed is because of the fact that they have replaced the older fleet of trains and the newer fleet has a different configuration, plus some sets would be considerably shorter than their predecessors
Its been a while since I last commented on your videos. The Great Sneeze Forward Pandemic has disrupted the railways and all daily life. The HSTs have all been retired and the LNER Azumas are firmly in place albeit with 14 remaining LNER 225 sets. I put forward further improvements to the LNER service and Azuma Fleet. Hourly services to Kings Cross and hourly Edinburgh services calling at Dunbar and Vice Versa, Through services between the East Coast Mainline I.e. Aberdeen, Inverness, Edinburgh, Leeds and Brighton via the Canal Tunnels and the Thameslink route meaning additional services for Aberdeen, Inverness (both via Edinburgh) and Leeds which use Thameslink and call at St Pancras International, London Bridge, Gatwick Airport and Hayward’s Heath. Extra terminating LNER services for Dundee and Perth (both via Edinburgh) and All 5 and 9 coach Azumas including all Bi-modal ones and the exclusive pantograph electrified Route Azumas are lengthened to 11 coaches just like the ex-Virgin, now Avanti West Coast Pendolinos thus increasing pax capacity and all modified for the third rail Thameslink Brighton route. Thanks to the Canal Tunnels it’s now possible for LNER to run Scotland-Brighton services via Edinburgh and the East Coast Mainline. On another note, Joe Biden has been elected 46th President of the United States and will take office in January next year and I wish him well and am optimistic about our US-UK Special Relationship going forward.
Well thats quite a list you have put together there and I can see where it has some merit behind it as the routes that you have suggested would indeed create a few amount of interest for passengers all over the country. Especially as journey times can be altered through different timetabling methods to coincide with other TOC's. Very well done on thinking all that through! Maybe one day this will happen.
Why was the white passenger train so long it didn't fit on the station lol.
I like your videos Do you like Australian trains
thanks very much, I have watched a few films of trains in Australia and they do look good
Brillvideo. I looked at the description and it said be actually twice
Thanks very much, I've looked at the description and I can't see anything
@@Tornado922 it’s at the very bottom where you say about where you’ll be filming next :)
@Tornado922 Did you know after the HS2 is fully open, EMR might to from London Kings X to Nottingham and Cross Country should go to Hull (it's not s rumor)
Well that would be nice to see, time shall tell as to whether or not that happens
Hi,
When do you think that you will be going to one of the following stations again:
Kings Sutton (KGS)
Banbury (BAN)
Leamington Spa (LMS)
Please let me know.
Thanks
Hello there Luke,
I have done a film at Kings Sutton last month that I will be releasing in the next few weeks
14:05, “Nice”. Lol
Gotta add in some sarcasm every now and again ;)
@@Tornado922 indeed. Made me chuckle. Lol
Have u seen the Eddie Stobart train
If you mean the 'Tesco Express' that runs from Daventry to Mossend then yes I have it a few times when I've been out and about
Have you ever played train sim world 1 and train sim world 2? If you have not, please may you play it for a series! There are may routes you can buy as well for £25 and the game is £25. Or you could get the collectors edition for £50 and it comes with more routes and has better value!
I've played TSW1 and I wasn't overly fond of it if I'm honest, I wasn't overly keen on the playing style of the game. Plus I feel that Train Simulator 2021 has much more content for me to have a play with
Will you be visiting Ashford again Next Year or in December
I will most likely go there next year depending on how Eurostar are looking
@@Tornado922 ok
Have you ever thought of Forest hill because you've never filmed there?
I've never really given it to much thought if I'm honest
Those breaks tho 😖
4:11
what the heck happened here
4:11 I didn't like having ears anyway
I don't have any
It was even worse for me!
Nice video. But I’ve noticed on nearly all your videos you are obsessed with cleaning.
I'm not obsessed with cleaning per say but I do feel that if your fleet of trains is running around dirty then it can look bad on the company as it may seem as if they don't overly care about the cleanliness of their rolling stock
Why have 2 people given this thumbs down? If they don't like trains then they shouldn't watch it!
It's usually the same people I imaging, most of my films usually end up getting around 3/4 dislikes immediately
Not a fan of the Azuma I'm afraid,uncomfortable seats👎
What? They have cool seats
Jamie Cook no they don’t...
@@Wirralspotter I prefer the 91, cause is better locomotive.
And the hsts
@@arnoldspottingvideos5269 I also prefer the class 91 and HST
