Listening in 2021. Doesn't matter where you're from or what you believe. This song should be played everywhere when the pandemic is as fully conquered as we could ever hope to conquer it, simply for these two lines: "Gone is the past, let us start anew! Let this hope of peace always remain."
. Not a truer word spoken, unfortunately too many Scott's, mainly in Hollyrude would rather stay in past and dream of William Wallace than allow the full potential of Scotland and it's people to be realised in a United Kingdom
This melody was composed in 1982 by germans musicians Ulrich Roever and Michael Korb for a highlands games in Germany, the Music bring to all our tears!!! What a Feeling!! Thanks to the Autors for this wonderful gift 😉 The Music bring us a really Union between countries😉
Highland Cathedral Land of our fathers, we will always be Faithful and loyal to our own country. In times of danger, we will set you free. Lead you to glory and to victory. Hail, Caledonia, to our ancient prayer. In this Highland Cathedral, let our standards, bear. Joining, together, with one dream to share. God bless the people of this land so fair. Gone is the past, let us start anew. Let this hope of peace, always remain. Spirit of Scotia, be strong and true. Then your children will smile again. Rise, Caledonia, let your voices ring In this Highland Cathedral of our God and King. Whom, joy and liberty, to all, will bring. Come; let your heart, with love and courage, sing. Whom, joy and liberty, to all, will bring. Come; let your heart, with love and courage, sing.
@@w.reidripley1968 search for "Du bes die Stadt" it is even in "kölsch" - the accent from Cologne... Greetings from Iserlohn in the Sauerland (where you can even learn to play Bagpipes etc...)

Thank you so much for this stirring song, I love it so dearly, remember CALEDON in the Christchurch Town Hall New Zealand a few years ago. I will have this played at an occasion in a couple of years. Many memories and many thanks Alex. C. New Zealand
Well, it's not like you don't already have two of them... The USA has passed through this very thing in its time; every single widely popular national song we've got has been considered for Anthem status -- but like 'Scots Wha Hae,' we still like this commemorative sort of National Anthem, that marks a crucial occasion in our history. The Marseillaise has the same sort of origin and sense. 'Flower Of Scotland' also, if more generally phrased.
I think this should be Scotland’s national anthem and the god and king part should change depending on if there’s a king or queen, hate flower of Scotland shite song do depressing and dreary.
This should have been the national anthem of Scotland, but the Scottish people preferred English money and subsidies to self-respect and independence. Will we ever get another chance?
I agree my friend. Horrible version. This was composed for bagpipes. Not 3 voices, an orchestra, rock organ(elton john) and only pipes at the end. Bagpipes only please for my funeral.
Cannot advocate a song that relies on a 'god' and not the will and ability of the Scottish people - who have always proved to be more steadfast. This is my favourite pipe tune but not sold on the much later addon that is the tenor singers - too much heuchtar teuchtar nonsense. The tune - yes. The words....need changing and the singers.....gies a break, a bit less of the shortbread tin. Who are we trying to be?
I agree, i prefer the lyrics i have heard will martin sing, but there are no "official" lyrics to this tune. Some are just a lot more renowned than others, this set of lyrics being the kind of unofficial lyrics of the tune
Shortbread Tin Ha Ha Ha, but the International Tourist dollar view is important because they can then be taught the History and achievements of Scottish Engineers, Scientists, Missionaries etc. I was born in Scotland but escaped as a child and have spent most of my life Down here in New Zealand and I'm well aware of Scottish influence on the world especially Engineering but do appreciate Scottish traditions, Shortbread Tin images and a' that! Always been a fan of the Massed Bands Pipe version but this is great along with the also excellent Westerton Male Voice Choir version. Thanks for the laugh and are you a fan of the great Oor Wullie and The Broons? Be Proud and Stay safe thee and All.

OK, yes the dollar is king, unfortunately, but I feel we need to start moving on from a 1950/60s TV image of Scotland - people get bored of 'the same old'. it was an absolute pleasure performing with these men in Detroit Michigan
I have only ever heard this as an instrumental. The word are beautiful, and share so very much meaning for a Scot.

Germans trough the ages had provided the world over with EXCELLENT music. Germany had a lot of talented composers.
Wonder how the lyrics would resound translated into German...?

this should be the Scottish National Anthem
Lots of people say this and agree with you Although I love the song I.cant see /Hear it at football matches Just not sure
Canon D major insert at 3:43
Yes, a fragment of D major from Pachelbel
