Man I appreciate all the tips! I've had my AP2 for almost a year, and had no idea that I was missing out. It was way more of an improvement than I was expecting. It almost feels like what i imagine a gated shifter would. Thanks for what you do!

Hi John, just wanted to say thanks again for making this video. I did this to my S2000 today, I changed the spring as well, probably overkill but it was pretty cheap and I don't really intend doing it again so what the hell, let's be extravagant 😁. The tip for prising off the plastic collar was invaluable 👍. I possibly wouldn't have had the confidence to try this without a tutorial such as this, so a massive 👍 to you. PS I miss tech Wednesdays 😞.

Thanks for the video. Just did mine.
The video didn’t show the tricky parts but to get the old plastic pieces off I used some channel locks to pry the ball off. The old plastic ball cracked but was still in one piece. For the carriage, I had to break it off with channel locks. I’d like to see how LHT gets the carriage off (I’m guessing their way wasn’t much more elegant since it wasn’t on video haha).
Then to put the new carriage on I used a shop press and a deep well socket to press it on. It was probably overkill but I couldn’t get it to snap on by hand. I put the plastic ball on the same way John showed in the video.

Hello LHT, first of all let me say I love you videos. I wish you guys were in montreal. I would totally trust you with my baby. That being said, I just used this video to help me re grease the shifter. I have some suggestion that I believe you really should add in a re edited version. The most difficult parts were omitted and really should be in there. I am no mechanic so what seems simple to you is not to me. I assume other regular people will appreciate a more detailed version . Please take this with my utmost respect for you guys.
1- removing the cage is not in there . I figured out that running hot water on the cage is the absolute best way to remove it. It make the plastic supple and it will require way less effort to remove. Also the hot water and some all purpose cleaner gets all the gunk off really well. Before the plastic cools down you can hold the tabs back down and then cool it quickly under cold water. This makes the cage regain it original tightness if you dont have a replacement. Dry it all off with a towel and let dry or blow dry on low setting before the fresh grease goes on.
2- the accordion rubber boot is out and cruddy, why not clean it all up and SHIN ETSU grease it for protection. Keeping it supple will prevent future possible tearing.
3- Bolting it all back down, this is a nightmare and super hard the way you explained it without showing it. The Secret to an easy reinstallation is to pull back the rubber completely back towards the tip of the shifter. Its will want to stay there thanks to the ribbed shape. Also, The bolts will want to fall out off the socket. Most of us dont have magnetic tools. Here I used a touch of silicone on the top of the 10mm screws. This keeps the screw on the socket while you align the metal triangular plate with the holes.
4- if you have a saggy leather shifter cover its a perfect time to fix it. Adding a few rubber washer O rings at the base of the locking nut will hold the cover closer to the knob. Also a good time to vacuum all the crap and apply a leather balm to the center tunnel before re installing it all.
Thats it. Thanks for the content. Keep it up. P.S .I thumbs up all your videos

I wish I'd have found this video before I replaced the middle console two weekends ago...now I have to force myself to tear it out again to do this.
John, I have a weird rattling sound coming from my shifter at certain RPM's If I lay my arm on the shifter, it damps it considerably, but obviously I'd rather not do that. Do you know if this procedure will help this rattle, or is it something deeper in the transmission?

Good morning John, how do you feel about replacing stock mount bushings with aftermarket reinforced ones? Does/should that improve shift precision? Thanks so much for another helpful video!!

Andrew Stewart I like the OE Honda mounts. Unless you drag racing or making tons of power, they are fine

Many dislikes are accidental. I have never seen a video with more than a few thousand views that doesn't have at least a couple. Don't sweat it! Thanks for the video.

I wouldn't worry about it. Like Ninja said, probably just bots. Or trolls. Either way, the people that matter (enthusiasts) enjoy your videos and the knowledge you share.

People are bored and soaking in their own misery and just want company. Don't mind those idiots, in fact I can probably guess most if not all thumbs downs were by those who don't even own a s2000.
