It’s a lot different when your racing, you have a ton of riders dragging mud and water ect on the rocks and roots ect. It gets messy really quick, plus the pace your riding is twice what you’d do while trail riding with no breaks after climbing your legs are stiff on the descent it’s very easy to make mistakes.
7:33 - You can hear the guy behind barking "c'mon" to the guy in front taking his time. Less than 5 seconds later the same impatient man is going over his handlebars into the crowd.
It was explained by Jolanda Neff that the benefits of having them is not that good unkess you can climb strong like Julien Absalon (he used dropper post). The extra weight is a huge burden in climbs and can give you a deficit in time vs the amouny of little second you gain on descending with dropper post. That's why these guys are practicing with high seat posts on descents which is so high that even pro down hillers are scared them.
Perhaps, but i was working this event, riding the course before and after the racers on my moto trials bike to open the course. It is truly quite mellow. BUT, you might be right. i will sprint it on an xc bike this summer and report back. Maybe a hardtail for good measure
i was there, on the la patrie most racers were coming down on the wooden log drop (and not around on the berm), which was like super steep, it was pretty insane to watch. these pros are crazy good, we saw later an xc racer coming down on La tordue on his race bike-no protection...
BlueWatch MTB And then you have me running a 150mm travel dropper on an XC race bike. I’m pretty sure it makes me faster by not causing my heart rate to redline going downhill because I’m not shitting myself! That makes me better prepared for the climb.
This was such a simple, yet entertaining and informative video, guys. Well done! I used to race amateur cross country races, and this looks brutal, even on paper. You made it come to life with the comparisons and the personal POV.
Pretty cool, love the content of your edits. You seem to be thinking of new and different ways of showing a great sport. Instead of the same video of A-line! Don’t get me wrong, A-line is the best trail on earth! Cheers BCPOV!!!
some things have easy explanations when in a race, you have to recover once in a while. regarding the dropper, it really depends on the bike. newer trail bikes with 76 degree seat tubes cant be run without a dropper, older slacker (73 degree) seat tubes on xc bikes combined with short reach dont feel uncomfortable with static seatposts. xc tires dont exactly have side knobs to take advantage either, so more angle on the bike doesnt give that much more grip.
Yuca just continues to amaze me, she’s a troubadour. She has caution, some healthy fear, but it doesn’t stop .her. Yuca you have my respect! Please forgive if I misspelled your name.
I agree that too many of the courses are purely indurance tests that have no technical challenge. I know the riders comment how tough Mount Saint Anne is and some like it, some don't. As a viewer, the more technical trails seem like real mountain biking. I like it! Great video and insight into what the course is actually like.
love ur content, back into biking for 3 months now, thought i had decent kit untill i started watching vids and realised im way behind and the prices are crazy for most good gear, so its nice to see a chanelle showing stuff in action to give me a better idea
As an XC racer, I love reading these comments from downhillers who don’t really understand the nuances. I’m not trying to be rude, but it is pretty amusing.
I am a DH racer and I used to do DH with old steel Bianchi without suspension back in the 90s dude. Most XC bikers I have met never really trained to do drops jumps or Gnarly step trails. Unless they where freeriders. Check Jhon Tomac downhill races and which bike he used. You will be surprised. DH people are different. Just like climbers or rally racers. That's why they are surprised by how ridiculous XC racers look braking and falling in that part of the video.
You cover these events really well. Would like to see you attend more of them next year if you can fit some in. I would be impressed if you ride the DH circuit, that looks very gnarly! Great choice of music again, the crash music was funny.
Xc became so technical and gnarly that the bikes been updated and the best xc bikes are just like a full suspension trail bike, if you come with a budget xc bike it's really hard, easier with an Enduro bike,, seems like Enduro bikes are the best allrounder bikes
They don't need a dropper post. They need more training. Old school freeride and DH bikers used to do slopes like that all the time with steel bikes without suspension back in the 90s.
Well Met. A fascinating World Cup XC tribute, but WHERE'S THE DAYGLOW LYCRA? I also noted the lack of wobbly bum syndrome and no gritted teeth. Mind you, I fear a few teeth might have been left out on the course after the actual race. Another great video....
Another fun video Eric. Quick question. What program or app do you use to create the effect on the rider in the thumbnail? I'm talking about the white outline. Thanks buddy!
It’s just about which way is faster, but which way consumes more energy; yea, smashing through a rock garden may save a second in the short run, but the energy wasted after doing that 5-6 times can make you lose 20-25 seconds in the long run - there is also the matter of conserving momentum.
That was great! Really cool to see how tough the xc courses are and how amazing all of the racers are. It gives you a nice idea of their speed and endurance. Brilliant video 💪🏻
the little rock that you climb over would be quite hard when u factor in the mud from countless other riders riding over it making it super slick and also the fatigue of riding a world class race.
Hi, I seen in your video, that you have a special saddle, plastic with many holes. What is this for a saddle ? Brand and Type ? It looks great and comfortable.
I think M. Flückiger took the shorter rocky line twice and he was faster than N. Schurter but after the second time he had a flat rear tire. At least Flückiger won silver :)
Ok, now do all of that again after 6 laps of doing that full gas on an xc bike. The technical sections become way harder when you're fatigued. As for the grass, there needs to be some passing opportunities, I know I hate courses that are all single track especially if you get stuck behind a slower rider
It’s a whole different animal under race pace with riders breathing down your neck. I took silver medal 1995 UCI World Cup mt snow junior expert. Because there were so many riders and stages on course you never knew how you were doing. So I just kept passing who ever was in front of me. My team riders kept telling me on lap passes I was way back. Jerks. The leader and I paced off each other whole race (I knew him) he was 3rd in norba points I was 5th. We ended up with a 5 minute gap over 3rd. Haha. Big shout out to Tommy Carr back then for going all out in the infamous naked criterium. Lmao.

Also a post sticking up your arse forcing all your weight over your handle bars :p
Also your going so hard your eyes are like their crossed

😂😂😂
Lol 😂
Those crashes could have been avoided only if they had a dropper post. Its an added weight but would help them a lot on technical sections.✌🏾
I tend to agree!
Yeah I can’t believe they don’t overlook the small weight savings for the benefits that a dropper post offers, seems crazy to me.
It was explained by Jolanda Neff that the benefits of having them is not that good unkess you can climb strong like Julien Absalon (he used dropper post).

I just think for the most part on these tracks you honestly don't need them.

Daniel Arnold ride it on a Xc bike with the saddle up after sprinting up a technical climb, won’t be so easy then.

The start of your video startled me. It's loud right from the start!
If you have a look at your phone/computer there will be a volume control. You can adjust the sound level there.
Imagine it in the wet! CX courses are getting more technical. Dropper posts are almost essential now!

No. XC bikes are not "just like" a trail bike. And enduro bikes are not the best all around bikes - they are too heavy and have too slack a geometry.
Thank you for blowing out my eardrums at the beginning lol
