Suggestion: it would be cool if you could use RUclips's chapter feature to split up the colors or at least main themes. Thank you for the guide regardless
You can tell the complexity of the set by how long this draft guide was even with the great speed reading by Nicolai. 😄
Not really done alot of these, is this long?
Normally my Draft Guides are between like 19 and 29 minutes, so this one is a is pretty standard length but a bit on the longer side of the range.
It’s definitely a complex set! There are tons of mechanics and cool cards to play! I think the length still falls within my typical range of between 19 and 29 minutes (this one is slightly shorter than my Outlaws of Thunder Junction Draft Guide for example), but it’s definitely a tad longer than normal.
@@NicolaiBolas It felt longer, possibly because there were a lot of additional complexity that could have been in the video but you kept it short and sweet, as usual.
@@michaedove3562 I definitely felt like I talked through certain things a lot more. Also, the video was a fairly standard length but without the whole several minute section I normally dedicate to mechanics (with something like 40 in the set it felt a bit less helpful), so each individual section got a little more detail, which could contribute to the feeling as well. I'm glad you liked it!
Very much agreed that White is likely the best color, especially because I've seen at least 6 or 7 different suggestions on what could be white's top commons between you and other limited reviewers and all of them look crazy good. White seems likely to be deep at the common level and due to that I'd say it's quite likely to be the best color.
I’m glad you liked my guide! White definitely has some good commons, and a strong roster of commons is often a good indicator of color strength overall.
23:23 EHHH!
Haha love these draft guides as always, looking forward to more Arena draft vids!
That’s a fun moment (sometimes random stuff happens) and I’m glad you liked it! It’s also great to hear you’re enjoying my draft guides! You can certainly expect to see many draft videos for this set!
Always coming in clutch🙏
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying my guides!
Excited for the new set, and your breakdowns always make it even better!
Thanks for the great content and insights. Keep up the awesome work!
I appreciate the kind comment! I’m so glad you are enjoying my guides and are looking forward to the set!
The highly anticipated video
I'm glad you liked it!
Been watching your vids for a couple years now. Finally at a point in my life where I can draft again and so thankful for your vids. Keep it up !
I’m glad to hear you’re doing well and enjoying my videos!
Thanks for these videos... ranking the colors, the final tips, and highlighting some of the more important commons is super helpful for someone like me who wants to draft but doesn't have time to do a bunch of research to prep.
I’m glad you enjoy them! It sounds like they are serving their intended purpose!
Thanks for the guide! Got 3rd place out of 18 at Prerelease yesterday.
I gave Golgari a try. One of the best Commons for me was Nyxborn Hydra. It was a very strong buff that turned into a very strong creature. Grim Servant was a great Uncommon, and it’s ability to tutor up Nyxborn Hydra or Kozilek’s Command was very powerful! Breathe Your Last was also very impressive removal. Another power-crept Common for sure.
I’m glad you liked the guide! Sounds like your event was fun, and congrats on the finish!
Power Creep has gotten so crazy. I know this is an intentionally overpowered set, but, even just looking at the Commons: Faithful Watchdog is a 2-mana 3/3 with Vigilance that benefits from Proliferation! That’s wild!
As you said, this set is intentionally more powerful. I like that Faithful Watchdog is a callback to Watchwolf from original Ravnica!
Great guide! thank you
You're welcome!
Man those commons are unreal, excited to draft this set!
I’m glad to hear it!
Nice guide! Will draft the set Monday! Didnt have much time to prepare, so this guide was really helpful!
I’m glad you found it helpful!
@@NicolaiBolas I ended up playing Izzet Energy and got 2nd place out of 14 players!
@@monotonebooster3229 Awesome!
Great guide.
Thanks!
Woo did a sealed blind last night and took me 45 mins to figure out whats going on
another great guide ty for all the hard work #mondernspyglass
I’m glad you found my guide helpful!
Modern spyglass definitely looks like the most OP card in the set! 😂 nice work as always sir!
I’m so glad you enjoyed my guide!
Thanks for the draft guide!

Looks Great! Could u also add 5 Bombs? Gotta Watch another Video to See THE bombs but would Love to Watch only yours 😂
I generally do a separate short video about the best rares. I don’t like including them in my draft guide because often the best cards are pretty self explanatory and they aren’t the sort of thing that comes up every draft due to their higher rarity. I’m very conscious of the things I spend time discussing in these guides because I want them to be as informative as possible without being overwhelmingly long.
Yesss, go with a #ModernSpyglass!
I’m so glad you liked my guide!
Thank you for this guide! It always help who doesn't have much time to study :)
How do you deal with those lands who are also spells in terms of land count?
I'm so glad you enjoyed my guide! I would say the more often you want to play the spell-land as a land, the more you should lean towards replacing a land with it, and the more often you plan on playing it as a spell the more you should lean towards viewing it as a bonus mana source when you need it. Another decent method if the cards are in between is for every two of them you replace a land. That’s just some general guidance but I vary it up depending on the exact composition of my deck. Hopefully that helps!
Thank you!
good video
Thank you!
#modernspyglass thanks for the video! Didn’t know how +1/+1 counters cancel -1/-1 counters so that’s pretty neat
I'm glad you found it informative!
#modernspyglass thanks for these type of videos they’re super helpful!
You are welcome! I’m so glad you are finding them helpful!
Sealed is gonna be interesting lol
Sealed is one of my favorite formats, so I’m excited to see how it goes in this set!
Which color seems best to dip your toes in early like in pack 1? For instance you said white was the most powerful, so would I lean towards the generically good removal and early creatures in white more than not?
Also which archetypes seem to be winning the most? Energy? Stompy modified? Eldrazi ramp?
I’ve been having the most success with Eldrazi and Energy decks. I think White is a good place to start because it’s quite deep, and Green is also great because it’s deep and most of its cards work towards the same goal. Blue is a bit more finicky with some decks caring about energy and some decks not, and then Red and Black have fewer commons I’m excited about. Hopefully this helps!
Nice glad to see u getting more views, well-timed video. Next time put some clickbait thumbnail, you deserve some more success in my opinion. I learned how to draft control mostly from your and Sam Black's videos.
I’m glad to hear you’re liking my videos! I think the thumbnails on my draft guides are already great. I really like them!
This has been thebhardest set to draft for me :( lets see how much this helps!
Modern Horizons sets are complex, so they can definitely be a challenge.
@@NicolaiBolas first mh set I've tried! Deffinetly feels to be so! Started in khans, I feel I'm used to a few special mechanics and go off of those, these mh sets have so many different ones it's hard for me to focus in synergies!
Thanks for the vids, been watching for years
One small help- lands that are also spells, what is the thumb rule to adjust mana base when you draft these cards?
I would say the more often you want to play the spell-land as a land, the more you should lean towards replacing a land with it, and the more often you plan on playing it as a spell the more you should lean towards viewing it as a bonus mana source when you need it. Another decent method if the cards are in between is for every two of them you replace a land. That’s just some general guidance but I vary it up depending on the exact composition of my deck. Hopefully that helps!
@@NicolaiBolasThank you for the tip, it most certainly helps
ty, ser! #modernspyglass
You are welcome!
Can Energy abilities be activated at instant speed unless stated otherwise?
Yep!
The blue white gargoyle won me alot of games
That card is so sweet!
Isn’t galvanic discharge just a better bolt? Am I missing something.
Lightning Bolt can target players which is a big upside for Constructed, but a bit less so for Limited (though it does come up). Galvanic Discharge often plays out like Bolt though, which means it is very good!
Would love a pdf guide if it’s available on patron
I’m going to make some PDF resources that will get posted soon, so stay tuned on that front. I’m glad you’re enjoying my videos!
#ModernSpyglass !
I’m glad you liked it!
The set looks really cool but it seems it’s just going to be “who drafted more rares”
In my experience the format has not been dominated by Rares or Mythics because the Commons and Uncommons are so excellent! With so much great removal, problematic cards (which don't seem that frequent anyway) have often been killed pretty quickly in my experience.
is moder horizon 3 legal in standart format?
Nope.

I wonder how many dimir players will accidentally mill themselves out with that card draw in lmited 😂
I suspect a nonzero amount, but if a player has time to draw that many cards they are usually going to win before it becomes an issue.
In mirrors, like always, there will be the 😊termination…

@NicolaiBolas I'm going to be honest, I watch your videos all of the time.I don't have a lot of time to research the prerelease and all the info helps
Minor correction: eldrazi need to be cast to get their 'ETB' effects so victimize doesn't trigger it.
You get a 0/1 when you cycle the Drownyard Lurker. That's what I was referring to with getting the 0/1. The 0/1 can then be sacrificed to Victimize and you get a huge creature ahead of schedule.
Now I'm ready to go! #ModernSpyglass
@NicolaiBolas Whats your favourite color combination that you wish to test and play?
I got to play a lot in Early Access and so far I’m enjoying Red Green a lot! I think Writhing Crysallis is excellent and it’s been a lot of fun trying that card out and sometimes splashing Blue to get a Temur Eldrazi deck! I’ve honestly had lots of fun with all my drafts though and the archetypes I’ve played have all felt pretty sweet!
@@NicolaiBolas sounds super cool! Im attending prerelase tommorow at my lgs and I hope my card pool will let me build an Eldrazi deck, but Ill try whatever will be avaible from the pool and not force anything of course. Just love the eldrazi synergy in the set!
