One With Nothing is one of the worst black cards, but it is also one of the *best* worst black cards because unlike other bad cards, you don't ever forget about it or completely dismiss it. How often do you see people talking about how Chimney Imp has a use when a new set drops?
One With Nothing is the worst black card with literally no use at all but people pretend it does. Breakthrough does the same thing at one cost but draws you an additional 4 first. Putrid Imp does this same effect while providing a creature at common rarity. Both these examples also let you discard your whole hand but still keep one or two if you really need to. Also, Lion Eye Diamond costs zero and adds 3 mana if you go further formats back.
Someone watched Rystic Study. Also as the other reply pointed out, it’s not even best at what it does. If you want to discard a bunch you can do it a lot better. It’s like saying Wood Elemental is a good bad card. It’s not even best at a bad thing, it’s bad at being bad.
"Chimney Imp can barely trade with anything around its mana cost" Hey! Chimney Imp can trade with Bog Hoodlums if it loses the clash! That's a trade UP.

Blood Funnel actually sees a lot of play in Mishra, Artificer Prodigy EDH deck, where it's just pure upside. One with Nothing also has a funny and janky combo with Barren Glory and any instant that returns any number of permanents into your hand.
I can see a use for Blood Funnel in a Saproling deck. Since the reduced cost factors into kicker as well. It would make Saproling Burst, Migration, and Symbiosis far more cost effective.
I think that with Hoodlums the design was to create a high mana value creature that can almost always win clashes. So they saw its cost like an upside, because this card should definitely cost around 3-4 mana, but not 6. However, this design is dumb. The same design was used for Scornful Egotist, there are some cards in his set that care about high mana value among your permanents, so you could cheat an expensive creature in play way below the curve for 4 mana.
Blood Funnel in an Undying deck. Have a way to shuffle the Undying +1/+1 counters, and Blood Funnel becomes all benefit. Cheaper spells, +1/+1 counters, removal of problematic auras. This seems like a card that a deck should be built around, but it's nowhere near the 10th worst black card ever.
No TOMBFIRE? B for a sorcery that exiles all Flashback spells in a players graveyard is so niche, especially because Tormods crypt costs 0 mana and does the job better
I could see Blood Funnel being used along side stuff that make your spell not be countered. There have been a few black removal cards in the last few years that could benefit Blood Funnel. I don't think it would be a meta threat but could be interesting to try out. It could also be used against control decks by donating it to those players.
I know there exists a deck that plays One with Nothing, but its a deck where you discard you hand, mill your library and exile your graveyard so you pass the turn with nothing in play, in your hand, in your library and your graveyard.
I built a One With Nothing deck on Arena. It runs 2 copies. The idea is that it runs a lot of cards with madness/discard triggers and easy GY recursion. The win con of the deck is basically playing cards that Amass Zombies 2 for 1 mana on discard. Or tap, discard to make zombie tokens. Then you fling your hand with O.W.N to spam out a big threat and flood the board with 1/2 mana cost madness threats and discounted burn/removal. If you don't draw the right hand, O.W.N becomes an easy discard itself. ... The deck is bad, but it IS playable casually and has a decent win rate against the starter decks. When it plays smoothly it feels really satisfying because it's like "Ah, yeeeeessssssss, I made the bad card work."
My way to fix Blood Funnel : have it so that its effect to counter unless you selacrifice is restricted to cards that would cost 0 mana. That way you still avoid most problems of infinite loops or REALLY cheesy combos, but the card as use as an enabler of big spells
One With Nothing needs a partner card which says: "0 Mana: Until your next upkeep, whenever you cast a spell which only has the effect to "Discard your hand", draw X cards and gain X Mana where X is equal to the number of cards sent to the graveyard."
Pretenders Claim was also in a meta with Rebels, the assumption being that if you could toss it on something with Menace, they’d have to do all their searching before blockers were declared. That being said I’m 99% sure it never saw play in block or standard.
Hard Disagree on "One with Nothing" If you have deck built on Delirium or Threshold it can get you where you need to be quickly. Especially if you have a draw engine on the board like Phyrexian Arena or draw artifacts.
Pretender's Claim, like most of Masques block, only makes sense because of Rising Waters. Personally I would look at Dead Ringers. So, two nonblack creatures that share all their colors. It can work against tribal decks, but that's about it.

One With Nothing is bad, but at least it's an interesting bad. It's not failing to do something it is supposed to, it is doing exactly what it is designed to for a cheap cost, better than any other card. That doesn't make it good, but I'd argue it still is at least a card that makes the game better since it's at least one you'll think about if for some reason you want to discard.
Reclusive wight could have been a serviceable card if it had haste, since you only sacrifice it at the beginning of your upkeep. It could have been a creature made to just be dropped, get some damage in, then it dies bext turn. It having summoning sickness means it would only be good in the first couple turns when you have nothing else you can do but that would require multiple cards that cab get you mana in the first couple turns. if youre gonna do that anyway you might as well play something else. if youre gonna do a turn 2 mana cheese why would you choose Wight over something else costing the same amount that doesnt have suicidal thoughts.
Honestly, you could use it in zombie reanimator decks that care about ETBs and/or deaths, since each time you get it onto/off the battlefield you get a trigger and it even has the good graces to sac itself on your next turn so you can do it all over again, which gets even better if you're using Rooftop Storm. It's not amazing, but at least you'd get a 4/4 blocker in the process of you recurring it for value.
I've always believed from Pokemon VGC to pokemon TCG to yu go oh TCG to magic the gathering TCG things whether its ( Pokemon or cards or mechanics) exist so beginners can be easily spotted. Cause they look good to people that are just beginning one with nothing would be one of these. Though with this explanation I'm sure those who played other things can think of other examples. Where if you see it you think "that's cute I love seeing new people pick up this game."
9:56 I'm pretty sure Pretender's Claim could have been decent if it read "target player" as opposed to defending player. If you could put it on an opponents creature then whenever they attack you and you block you cluld tap all their lands. Not great but it would at least not be the worst at least
Funnily enough, if there's a 0 mana One with Nothing, it might actually only be considered to be worth playing. Adding cascade might make it too busted in cascade decks. Meanwhile, if there's a One with Nothing that draws you cards first (like until your hand is full) and then discards your hand, that would be EXTREMELY broken. Because at that point, graveyard-fuel decks benefit from it. The only conceivable way for One with Nothing to see worth is in dredge decks with Agadeem's Awakening by playing its land side to quickly dump your hand to get some good dredge mileage in case you bricked by mistake. However, if One with Nothing is a Yu-Gi-Oh! card, then Dark World/Fabled decks will REALLY love it. As draw power plus cards like Overking Reign-Beaux, Genta, and Parl would heavily benefit from it. In fact, I'd argue a donate for spells at cheap would help One with Nothing.
There is a zero mana one with nothing if you want, it's called lion's eye diamond. You don't even manaburn for 3 anymore for using it this way in dredge decks.
