      Cause they REALLY wanted those boss monsters to NEVER be useable... I think early Yugioh had a strong air of telling you what cards they expected you to play and which ones they didn't, given Joey put Mako, Espa and Weevile and Rex's cards all in his deck, but didn't bother with Bonz or Panik's "ace" monsters. XD
      Sadly not the only time a card was perfectly servicable in the anime, but painfully nerfed in the TCG cause they feared "it'd be too powerful" only to release game breakers shortly after and leave us wondering why these early cards ever had to be so bad.

  • @TheLetterJ0

    In Vampire Lady's defense, its effect was better when it was released. At the time, spells and traps were relatively powerful, and did nothing in the GY. So even just making your opponent get rid of a Sakuretsu Armor or Nobleman of Crossout could easily be worth it.

    • @TheLetterJ0
      @TheLetterJ0 2 месяца назад +4

      @@RetrospectiveChannel True, MoF could make choosing Spells a bad idea, especially if you'r opponent is on something like Chaos. I suppose that with Traps, you run the risk of letting your opponent remove a dead Dustshoot from their deck. But if they're not playing it or they sided it out, you're basically guaranteed to remove a blowout card from their deck.

  • @DukeSkylocker
    @DukeSkylocker 2 месяца назад +64

    I have no idea why they couldn't just have Castle of Dark Illusions effect be "your opponent can't target any monsters for attack except this one" which would be at least close to its anime effect, instead of relating it's effect to Pumpkin, a card used by another minor antagonist who never even met Panic.
    Still does not deserve to be in the worst list. At the time of release the highest defense for a level 4 monster was 2000 and 1930 def was for all intents and purposes the same as that (there weren't any monsters with 1950 atk that people were using). Also, being a dark monster with less than 1500 atk made it an easy target for mystic tomatoe. Even the math isn't really hard as long as all the other monsters don't have unusual stat lines as you basically can just set aside the last two digits of the LP total and do your calculations normally.

    • @alucard3600

    fun fact, bistro butcher WAS played by a guy at our locals, TO COMBO with appropriate. he ran 3 appropriates because EVERY deck had pot, graceful, upstart, some ran housekeeping + emerg. I think he was playing it in a clown control shell because i remember he got around the effect by using it to clear defense mode monsters or using stop attack. he lost in the finals because someone rammed a 1700 into it on his turn, then drew fissure + reborn on jinzo for the win XD. still whenever someone would talk about bad cards we would always say 'but remember bistro butcher?'

      I could see Butcher being a mind game card too. One of those your opponent sees on the field and doesn't WANT to destroy cause every attack into it is a free draw 2. Imagine deliberately sending in weaker monsters to attack into Bistro to draw 2 from it instead of destroying it with a power house to only draw 2 once. Not that mind games always work (or even have a decent chance of) but hey..."a win's a win" mind games IS a legit strat sometimes and I've won a few duels with a very well timed bluff.

    Hard disagree with Vampire Lady. Her effect isn't bad at all (and certainly not more than the previous cards), and a lot of decks don't want to have any of their spell or trap cards in the graveyard.

    • @MarioMastar
      @MarioMastar 2 месяца назад +1

      True but people run multiple copies of important cards. Like if someone vampire lady'd me and said "Spell" I could get rid of one of my 3 unexpected Dais since I really only need one and if I draw it again, it's a dead card usually. so even then it could help me. Unfortunately...a LOT of good decks have tons of recursion with spells and traps in the graveyard in modern day. So odds are at best, you thin their deck a little, and at worst, there's like good chance you're giving your opponent advantage for nothing really. They'll never pick their "one of" that they really need.

    • @bluedestiny2710
      @bluedestiny2710 2 месяца назад +1

      @@SethJV i would agree that during its time, it wasnt bad at all. Recursion wasnt as numerous back in her day... so when a monster hits the grave, its most likely gonna stay there since cards like Monster Reborn and friends arent as common. Same goes with spells and traps.
      But as @MarioMastar said... are you really doing a minus against your opponent? Since it doesnt impact the board and multiple copies of a card can minimize its damage
      Its good to run with the Vampire Field Spell: Vampire Kingdom... since "bleeding" an enemy results in a field pop (meaning it impacts the present board) AND a set up for your next plays
      Sadly... by the time the field spell got printed... recurssion was much more plentiful... not to mention floaters and graveyard effects. Calling "monster" against a zombie deck, for example, would get you a "thanks buddy

"use one Ploymerization Spell and two specific Monsters to get a big Monster from the Extra Deck". That would be poor balancing (not saying that Yugioh was good balanced at all lol).

      and hope your opponent has a flip monster? If your strategy revolves around your opponent having certain cards in their deck, there's a legit chance the card has no value at all. XD Sure your opponent COULD have a flip monster, but with the other options affecting EVERY duel, not just some of them, the odds of getting advantage by stopping a flip effect are so low, your opponent would have to tell you "by the way, I use flip monsters" and even then... They'll probably have multiple or a bigger plan than just flipping.
      Sadly, one of the hard rules of yugioh... If your strategy requires your OPPONENT to be playing certain cards, the odds are lower than winning at a casino. and it's not like you can GIVE them flip cards (just to negate them....which why?) XD

    This list is a joke, Paladin and *ESPECIALLY* Necross are so much worse than the other cards on this list it's not even funny.
    Not being able to Normal Summon/Set *AUTOMATICALLY* makes them among the worst because unless they have a built-in summon effect they can't be used.
    Even in the WORST case scenario for something like Bistro Butcher, Yado, Lady, etc. you can still just set them to protect your LP or use them as Extra Deck summon material. You can't do ANYTHING with Paladin or Necross unless you meet their summon conditions.
    23:20 - Even if you COULD do that (which you can't because you're in the damage step) you were *SOOOOOOOOOOOO* close to naming a card you'd want to pair this with: MukA. *_Muka_* MukA. If you switch control of the Bistro Butcher and crash into it with your monster, now all of a sudden *YOU'RE* the one drawing the cards. And if you can do it enough times, there are all *KINDS* of cards that could benefit from it. Mostly ATK-increasing cards like Slifer, Enraged Muka Muka, Tragoedia, etc. But of course, one of the most significant is *EXODIA,* which is something I did in Master Duel *SEVERAL* times.

Use a normal trap effect to summon butcher, summon lady labrynth by her effect, use her second effect later to set heavy slump and rinse and repeat the previous step. Add in lovely labrynth to make an infinite combo by recycling used up copies of heavy slump every second normal trap activation. Infinite hand looping via the bistro butcher in modern times, so he's not all bad.😅

    I actually used the bistro butcher in one of the CD games you got from McDonalds waaay back in like 2002 because it was one of the highest attack monsters that didn't need a tribute but it was more of an emergency card.
