      They also released a "counterpart" for this, Amabie was released during the pandemic as a symbolic gesture as in japan, the Amabie is a yokai that comes out from the sea and predicts whether there will be good harvest or an epidemic, in yugioh the card works in an almost similar fashion as, at the start of your main phase, you reveal the card (mimicking coming out of the sea) and each player gains 300 lp, as if she's predicting prosperity in the future instead of an epidemic.

      Fortunately Rush duel kind of goes back to that without slowing the pace of the game down. By getting rid of the extra deck in favor of speeding up normal summons, those cards now have more of a use again, which makes Rush duel a great way to modernize Yugioh before the horrendous powercreep. Though Link monsters really are what broke the game beyond repair as they don't have a mechanical weakness like the other summon types and while yes they speed up the game, they basically obsoleted almost every other strategy like these equips cause "you can just link it off" which is the most bullsh8t thing.

Maybe the white magician could pay life to revive her fallen companion, while ebon magician might compliment burn with removal. Maybe continue the story with older more experienced versions of the 2 magicians who take a new trial... one reminiscent of the one from their youth only for darker secrets to be revealed, but with their combined efforts, they succeed and become even stronger.

      Equip cards should be placed under the monster it is equipped to because that would make things easier to track what is going on, and it still lets you use other spells/traps. I would also have it during your standby phase after a monster is destroyed, to re-equip a/the card(s) to another monster, or send it to the GY. (Maybe the last part applies to certain equip cards.)

    • @MarioMastar
      @MarioMastar 3 месяца назад +11

      I do like how he considers the casual/for fun strats this time. These are my favorite kind of videos, when he explains the most niche ways to make positive use of a card which either shows how it could be used, or objectively why it's not worth running even in gimmick games instead of assuming every duel is for tournament wins exclusively. A lot of people use casual cards JUST to see if we could pull off a rare 1/100 win with a 4k Ojama yellow, but every card has A strategy and outside of meme decks purely designed to make a bad card work, we can't always assume the opponent is going to draw the board wipes first draw that make many cards obsolete. So I appreciate this video not assuming EVERY duel will have the opponent draw the perfect hand and objectively focuses on why the player using the card has better options assuming the card DOES do it's intended job. Makes for much better videos than the "This card sucks cause it can't beat tears, so it's not worth using" some other videos do.

      That’s a different format.
      Progressions series are a draft format, where you are unlikely to have access to high rarity or structure deck cards. Especially in old YGO, where outside a handful of staples most cards did nothing. This means powerful removal like raigeki/dark hole or defensive options like Wabaku are unavailable. Leading to some desperate deck building choices
      So, in this format where you must choose between you 10th vanilla with 1400 atk or 2k def that will clog up your hand and a card that does almost nothing outside of stalling really badly, you choose the latter option.
      Sure it does almost nothing but almost nothing is still better than nothing at all

    Prevention Star was an anime card. Yusei used it in round 2 against Akiza. If it also negated the enemy monster's effects and locked it out of being used as Synchro material, then it probably would have been at number 10 or 9 of the list because at the very least, the monster was unable to be used for a Synchro summon. It's absolutely just an anime card. It's super situational.

Say your opponent uses Banquet of Millions to start your Turn, ridding of you of all your Extra Deck plays that turn. Well, u can still use the Scale popping effects of Metalfoes to fill your Extra Deck as much as possible while searching, Pend Summon for 5, making sure of of them is LV3 Metalfoes card, then activate Sword to try to OTK. And, it's not that big of a minus, since all of the monsters u Tributed can be Pend Summoned next turn if you don't win.

    I actually used to use Sword of the Soul Eater in a Gravity Bind/Level Limit Area B deck back in the day. The primary wincon was Gren Maju boosted by cards banished with Skull Lair for spot removal, but in the case that Skull Lair was removed and Gren Maju would only be like 1200 atk or so, equipping a Jerry Bean or Sonic Duck (or even Gagagigo under ALO) with a card like Sword of the Soul Eater would provide a good beater that could still battle under Gravity Bind. Due to the stally nature of the deck, it wouldn't be uncommon to have 2 normal monsters on board since spot removal was less common back then and if those normal monsters were already too small to beat over whatever monsters they had (let's say Summoned Skull), then they weren't useful anyway.

    18:50 Idea to remake this card into a force multiplier for it’s fellows:
    _Morphtronic Pristine Machine_
    Equip Spell
    _Equip only to a “Morphtronic” monster. If you summon a “Morphtronic” monster, you can immediately change it’s battle position. Face-up “Morphtronic” monsters you control gain ATK equal the combined original DEF of all face-up “Morphtronic” monsters you control, and DEF equal to the combined original ATK of all Face-up “Morphtronic” monsters you control._

    I hate that konami is so against "silly combos" and supporting cards that havent kept up with the power creep in favor of supporting metas that move faster than speed monopoly.
    The state of the official game sucks for anyone who likes running gimmicky or slower decks and i think this list highlights the issue a lot 😅

    I feel like Sword of the Soul Eater and other normal support can be useful when using Gemini Monsters with Catalyst Field and/or Inferno Reckless Summoning. The weird part is so many effects involving normal monsters also specify specific levels, making proper synergy a little tougher. I might give it a try though since it sounds so funny.

    back in school when me and my friends were playing with decks made up of whatever we could get from booster packs and trades, cards like paralyzing potion were definitely used to decent effect! :P I suppose that's probably the point of comparatively weak cards like that in a trading card game :D
    And as for Sword of the Soul-Eater, back then my deck with it and a bunch of cards like human wave tactics, enchanting fitting room, order to smash and order to charge was fucking amazing :D (in the context I've described above :P )

  • @Lagbeard
    @Lagbeard 3 месяца назад

    To powercreep Paralyzing Potion in it's entirety and with similar effect... Mask of the Accursed. Equip spell, works on ALL monsters and in addition to stopping attacks it does 500 damage to the player on your standby.
    Trial of the Princesses, it's not very good or usable, but I suppose it kind of exists more for lore that Konami does nothing with.

    I was checking out my old cards, haven't collected in like 20 years, and I found soul eater among them. I think Dora of Fate is probably the worst card I found, though spirit Ryu is a canditate for a worst attack point gain list. But then theirs The Wicked Worm Beat. Pretty sure even teenage me would have realised how bad cards they are.

  • @DanTheMeek
    @DanTheMeek 3 месяца назад

    During the early days of yugioh I always felt like equips should have all had the inherent effect "if the attached monster would be destroyed by card effect, destroy this card instead". The minus one they caused in a meta full of fissures, dark holes, mirror force, and raigekis, on a card that was a dead draw during top deck situations (and frankly didn't give much stats) always felt too much, but if they offered effect destruction protection, perhaps it'd have been a different story. I always felt similar about sacrifice monsters as well, that the sacrificed monsters should have equipped to the monster and had that same effect... at least until Jinzo came around, but then if that had already always been how tribute monsters worked, he could have just had "tributed monster does not equip to him" added to his effect for balance.
    But legendary sword, for example, still would have been made obsolete quickly (assuming such a rule didn't impact how equips were designed in future sets as I do feel they realized they were bad and were always trying to see how far they could push them and might not have done so if they were more useful out of the gate) could have still been a useful protection even with that small stat boost.

    These are so bad that if they were changed to quick play spells and said "on your turn target 1 monster and do X" with X being what the equip spell card did... they'd still be bad. That's pretty awful. Considering that a lot of mediocre equip spells are descent if they just did their effects to a target permanently.
