I started crocheting 50 years ago, when I was 5 years old - my Nana taught me. A pattern I was looking at today referenced a "hbhdc" stitch I'd never seen before and when I looked in their key, their instructions made no sense, so I came to RUclips for help & found your awesomely helpful video. Thank you for getting straight to the point, showing very well how to make what seems to me to be an incredibly easy yet cute stitch, and whoever voted down your video either expected too much or can't be serious. In my opinion, the pattern I read failed to include a couple of YOs and worded the instructions poorly.
I’ve become obsessed with this cute stitch. It took some concentration at the beginning, but now I am on my second 18” doll sleeping bag. Thank you for your wonderful videos . You explain the stitches and make them easy to copy
I've been working on a blanket with this stitch and I really like the look and ease of it. The teaching videos you do are very helpful and clear. Thank you.
I am making lap blankets for nursing home pts using chunky yarn and this stitch. It’s been a while since I’ve done it and kept messing up my turns. THANK YOU so very much!!! Great simple instructions I love this stitch!
I'm always in the market to learn new stitches and I absolutely love this one, but I do prefer the double crochet version better. I only worked a sample piece using a 6mm hook and its really too thick for my taste so when I do a project using this stitch, will use a bigger hook. So happy I found you!! Thanks!
This is a beautiful stitch/pattern! I have watched so many videos on it and thought it was too difficult for me that I had nearly given up on herringbone but your video has saved me 🙏😁 thank you so much for sharing your talents!
I love love love your tutorials.... you are a very good instructor....if I can learn from you ...which I can ...everyone can.... keep at it ... I love all your videos...👍🧶😉
Hiya thank you for sharing. Do you have to work in the back bumper of the foundation chain please? and with all patterns using the HHDC stitch, does the chain 2 always count as a stitch?
I was taught that once you pull thru, you’re create one more loop then finish off, is this makes sense. It can be done both ways but not sure which is most correct.
@@marshmallowchick I'm glad it worked, even if you did decide against it. I am going (or rather, I intend), to use this stitch in a jumper, following 'How to calculate the right number of stitches' by Tuula Maaria. I am about to do a test run on some previously purchased dk yarn to see if it has potential. I certainly like the stitch.
Beautiful stitch but.... Oh it's very difficult to through the first loop of three. Does it require chunky or bulky yarns only? I use medium yarn with recommended hook.
I liked this stitch and plan to make wash cloths. This was a great tutorial except for Sara's painted finger nails. Don't know why the folks making crochet tutorials think that painted nails are wonderful. They are distracting and not necessary..
Nice looking stitch but not a half double crochet. Do do a HDC you yarn over put your hook into the chain or stitch you want to work yarn over and pull that stitch through, then you yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook. Thanks for sharing
Sarah is a world class instructor. She goes slow enough so you can work the stitches with her.
Thank you so much for your kind words!

Your a crotchet beginner's Dream Come True!!I love the ease & clear instructions, the turning chains always get me... NOT NOW😊🙌🏼 Thanx Girl❤
Thank you for not skipping all the stitches in the row! The repetition helped me really get a handle on this stitch before trying it out.
For some reason I find this half double herringbone stitch easier to follow than the double herringbone. Thank you for sharing this tutorial
Best site for crochet tutorials. Nice closeups, clear directions. Bravo! My new go-to for my yarn work.

Thanks to your tutorials I’ve been able to try so many different patterns. Thank you so much for making the time to post these tutorials.
Thank you for your great tutorial. The way you work slowly through the stitch helps alot. 🙂
Thank you very much for explaining it very well! May God continue to bless you Amen!
Thanks for teaching this easy new stitch. I'm going to make a cowl with this stitch. Easy to follow too.

Thank you for the twist on the hdc. The hdc is my favorite st.

This looks so much better! Makes an interesting look! Thank you!!
Sarah, love all your videos. Would you please do a video on how to do increase/decrease herringbone stitches? Thank you so much ❤
This is my new favourite stitch
That’s was beautiful to watch and learn. Thank you.

My very favorite stitch!!! ♥️
Thank you. Great instructions.
Nice and easy to follow, thank you for the tutorial.
That first row is a bit awkward, but it’s worth sticking with. It’s so pretty! Thank you Sarah.
Love this pattern! It's very pretty and so easy to do! Thanks for the video and happy holidays to you and family.
Thank you for the tutorial Sarah, this is a new stitch for me.

You’re welcome! The double does make a looser fabric and shows off the stitch a bit more :)
Thanks sarah .this is beautiful stich.
Thank you for showing how to do a herringbone stich

This is such a beautiful stitch! I think I'll make some dishcloths! Thank you for Your great tutorials!😀your great!
That’s what I’ve been thinking also since learning it! It’s really quite pretty!
Thank you for showing us how to do this stich. Love all your videos. Love your crochet hooks please let me know where to get those. Thank you
Thank you so much for watching! The wooden hooks are by Viscount Woodturning on Etsy
What I do is chain 1 and go back into that first stitch. This way my ends are straight and I never lose any stiches.
Thankyyou
Thank You!
Cool!
Great stitch and video!
Thank you, Catherine!
new subscriber - this looks like it will replace the HDC as my fave go-to crochet stitch - tfs!
Yay! Thank you for subscribing!
Love ur channel just subscribed
Love what you do, keep it up . Hi from racine wisconsin
Thank you :) and thank you for watching!
On the first row of HHDC you went through the stitch. Not under two strands. Does it make a difference?
Hiya thank you for sharing. Do you have to work in the back bumper of the foundation chain please? and with all patterns using the HHDC stitch, does the chain 2 always count as a stitch?
What yarn were you using for this demo? It had a lovely sheen.
I was taught that once you pull thru, you’re create one more loop then finish off, is this makes sense. It can be done both ways but not sure which is most correct.
Subscribed.
Thank you!
Hi, do you mind sharing what brand/type of yarn this is? Looks so soft and luxurious
This is the Caron x Pantone by Yarnspirations :)
Ok whats the difference between this and double crochet cause thats how ive bren double crocheting
VOLUUUUUME!!!!!
as always, a great tutorial. where did you get your beautiful handmade hook??
The hook is from Viscount Woodturning who you can find on Etsy. It’s handmade in Canada
Are you putting thru the back of the stitches? I have sight issues and not able to see it well
What yarn do you recommend?
Are you working into the stitch normally or the loop at the back please.
I am working into the stitch normally :)
Could you let me know what is crochet hook were I purchased it?
That hook looks beautiful!!! Could you share what it is/ where you got it?
This is a handmade hook by Viscount Woodturning on Etsy
Can I do this in back loops only for a ribbed effect? Or will that ruin the herringbone quality of the stitch?
I haven’t tried it, but you might! I’d be curious to see!
@@RichTexturesCrochet I mean, it couldn’t hurt, right?
@@marshmallowchick Did you try it?
@@gracecotton9819 i did, and it worked, but, I decided to frog it and do it the regular way instead. ☺️

My blanket is getting bigger as I’m going along.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️
What size hook
Beautiful stitch but.... Oh it's very difficult to through the first loop of three.
Does it require chunky or bulky yarns only? I use medium yarn with recommended hook.
It takes a bit to get used to it. You can use any kind of yarn :)
@@RichTexturesCrochet Thank you, a truly challenge to me.
Dear Rich Textures at the end 7 30 min mark what is that pattern called the mint green blanket looks with small boxes
That is the Beach Glass Throw: ruclips.net/video/Dlq0CS26RrE/видео.html
This is what i was doing, thinking it was double crochet 😭
I liked this stitch and plan to make wash cloths. This was a great tutorial except for Sara's painted finger nails. Don't know why the folks making crochet tutorials think that painted nails are wonderful. They are distracting and not necessary..
Omg so hard to go through the first loop
Please say your crochet hook size. Txs
What is the instrumental song that is played at the beginning of your videos? It is so uplifting!
It’s called “Saftey Net” by Riot - it was a free clip available through RUclips for videos :) I like it too!
Please what size hook are you using?
I am using a 6mm hook
My brain sees this as a double crochet???
I have the same question.
Nice looking stitch but not a half double crochet. Do do a HDC you yarn over put your hook into the chain or stitch you want to work yarn over and pull that stitch through, then you yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook. Thanks for sharing
No this is not a half double crochet stitch, it’s a Herringbone half double crochet stitch, worked differently than the hdc.
