Do it in Photoshop or other image editors: 3:40

    Hey, Mr. Sorbias! GREAT TRICK!!
Another (theorical) approach could be using a stereo camera and try to render like the two eys would.
Maybe making an anaglyph or even trying to get something more 3D alike
(stereograms actually do give the impression of a solid thing, either being carved in or extruded out the plane).
Just an idea, maybe it's not feasible at all.

Thanks. I also have that feeling that there would be more to be covered with this subject, but I wasn't able to figure out an approach better than this for now.
But i think the map should be possible to extract from the image if someone knows and understands the algorithm by what is used to create these.

@@MrSorbias Simulating the eyes with stereo cameras would not produce a valid result, right?
I mean... maybe the cross-eyed stereograms.
Anyway, crossing the eyes on a parallel-eye stereogram would give a "negative" result (carved in instead of extruded)

@@mutedsounds2k Basically it would be the same method as we are using here, but instead of having "difference" you would use 50% opacity. It also makes the object appear, kind of, but not so clearly as it is with this method.

You need to render that black and white depth map in Blender by using mist pass and that you can use with www.easystereogrambuilder.com/ to create the final image.

You can do ANAGLYPHS (Red/Blue glasses required) or WIGGLEGRAMS (animated GIFs or videos), instead.
Both are easy made in Blender itself.
