- How do you Write a Strong Discussion Section? How do you get started? How do you actually "discuss"?
My first few papers had very weak discussions sections. After reading multiple high impact journals, I noticed that there are certain features that make some discussion section much stronger than others.

@PublishedMD Yes, Dr Jia, I want to ask that sometimes we have so many results to discuss, and so many points are there to be justified which leads to a comprehensive discussion (4~5 pages), so is it fine to have a long discussion in a research paper?
Thank you for the explanation. I'm writing my discussion for my masters thesis and was a bit lost on how to approach this section. Do you have advice for discussions of scoping reviews?
amazing :)
Very good 🎉
Thanks for the kind comments. Are there any topics you are interested in?

Hey , I just watched your video and I must say that it was really informative and well-made. I was wondering if I could help you edit your videos and also highly engaging thumbnails as well that helps to grow your channel fastly ?
Hi can u help guide how to write the discussion of a case report
Thank you as I was struggling with this section in paper writing. I have a question: Should the works of the authors mentioned in the condordant and discordant paragraphs be cited in the literature review, before referring to their works in the discussion section or can you just compare findings with other authors without having mentioned their work in the literature section?
I am assuming you are talking about literature review section of the PHD thesis, because in research papers, there is no "literature section" per se.
In your case, you can mention the authors straight in the discussion section without mentioning them in the literature section IF the reference is not relevant in the literature section.
Think about it this way - the literature review section of the thesis is to justify why you want to do the research. But the discussion is more to talk about how your findings fit into the current literature. There are some papers that would be relevant in both the lit review section AND the discussion section, and some only in the discussion section.
Can this matrix be used in a scoping review discussion?
What would change to the above advice if your paper was on something completely novel? As in, no one else has done it or anything broadly similar. I am having that conundrum currently ans cannot compare my results to anyone because I'm doing something entirely novel in nature. Great video by the way, it was succinct and helpful.
Hi, this is an excellent question. The key to publishing research papers is that you need to be talking about "something new on something old". If you are not referencing your argument based on any previous work, the reviewers will say that there is "no scientific basis". If you can't find anything within your niche, then look outside of the niche. If there is nothing within that field, look outside of the field. YOu could also transcend from clinical evidence to basic science evidence. FOr example, if I do not have any evidence from the clinical outcomes, I will use animal data, or biochemical data to support my arguments.
How many studies should you compare your study to?
I've got the method but no clue what to do 🙂
Hi, can you clarify what you mean? I will try my best to answer you.
Do you mean that you got the "Method Section" done, but don't know how to write the "Discussion Section"?
Or do you mean that after watching the video on Discussion Section, you still have no clue on what to do next?
I want you to be my teacher
Hey can i have your google scholar?
