As the Admin NCO for SGS in a 2-star office, I learned not only about opening and holding the door, but also closing the door (gently).

Oh, that is a GOOD one...can't let the negative air pressure make it sound like you're having a bad day.

I'm sure that some young 2LT has been tasked to give a 30 minute PowerPoint on this subject. You forgot to pass around our handouts.

He can make his own handouts. I usually did this as a hip pocket training after some new major got in the way of my general. "Hey, just hold tight here a second...I need to show you something..."

I remember seen GEN Crosbie Saint back in the day when he was in command of USAEUR. When he walked down the halls of his HQ, doors seemed to magically fly open in front of him.

B is acceptable for a person doing so for somebody who wants to be first in the room in a hurry. Which is something that occasionally happens at an HQ. And this from a guy that didn’t go out of his way to suck up to HQ grand poobas. (Probably made too much of an effort not to in fact)
Basing promotion on social etiquette is a way to get leaders better versed in _Miss Manners_ and _Emily Post_ than actual leadership abilities.

Great point. Although you'd be surprised the amount of "refinement" that military folks go thru between O6 and 2 star. I've seen some nasty bastards transform into cultured gentlemen. Or at least put on the veneer.

Never hold a door for nobody. Just go around
