    Interesting irony. A lot of those DEI lies used Anal butt wipe was talking about a few days ago with the PSA crash, actually what is used to get Vets into ATC. I was trying to get into ATC a few years back, went through what they called a CTI training program and everything, but a former military officer took over the school in Oklahoma and basically made all the CTI programs worthless so he could bring more former military officers in (by the way, this is the bullshit Trump manipulates to say that Obama downgraded requirements, even though nearly 80% of the military controller washed out which is double the average). But if you think that this administration is about respecting any protections you are dead wrong. I don't want to say you're lying but I've been doing hiring now for almost a year and a half and I have the training, I know what the protections are and they have already thrown 90% of that back in our faces. We are allowed to have groups that cater to, like for example, reaching out specifically to HBCU's to recruit, can't do that anymore, or groups for women, or even mothers just for support and its all on our dime and time, but they can organize for moral...all gone, and banned. Recall, Trump thinks all vets are losers. He is a TRAITOR THAT RAN A MOB THROUGH THE CAPITAL BUILDING. He doesn't care about legal protections, that 's why he's only doing executive orders and no laws through congress because he knows nothing will pass. So sorry, you make good points, but on the ground, I don't see it happening.

    Great, practical info Chuck. I’ve only once worn my Army uniform once since retiring over a decade ago: at the funeral of my best friend’s dad, who was a WWII Navy vet. In this case, I wore my “Class As.” I chose to do so in honor of his military service. I’m glad to know it was authorized, but at the time I considered that the circumstances warranted my wearing it. Thanks for continuing to put together relevant, well-researched vids.

    So...Here is the reply I recived: You were paid under the Post 911 GIB at a higher benefit rate becuase you elected to give up your MGIB. Giving up your MGIB benefits allowed you to apply all your serviceto the Post 9/11 GIB. If you revoke your election, it will stablish an overpayment under the MGIB rates. Therefore, we have retained your election under MGIB, so you do not incur an overpayment. I am assuming that is a denial and anyone who elected to exhchange the MGIB for PGIB will be in the same boat and get denied. Under these circumstances, I am guessing no veteran that converts the MGIB to PGIB will qualify due to the PGIB paying out at the higher rate. Any thoughts?

    I was regular Air Force in the late seventies and then Army guard through much of the 80s. I honestly didn't see anything wrong with our army green uniform that would be the equivalent of a civilian suit. I had no reason to pay attention to what the Army was doing with uniforms, but I was shocked many years later when I realized that recruiters and other soldiers were just running around in their (what I knew as) fatigues or BDUs. And while I'm not a fan of the new pinks and greens, I'm at least glad that the Army went back to some sort of office or business attire.

So I made shorts out of all my BDUs, DCUs, ACUs and OCP pants except for a few sets that I gave to my dad and my cousin who like that kind of military surplus s***. My greens no longer fit so I have no idea what happened to them they probably end up tossed out or in a closet storage based someplace in my house. You're right that the British Royal Marines look badass, but I'm opposed to copying other people's uniforms. I think that part of the reason any uniform looks good is that the leadership and the folks in the organization have the swagger to be unique. As soon as some General starts talking about "looking like the <<fill in blank>>, I think he sounds embarrassed of his service and his troops.

    I like how they changed the Army Reserve ID card to be identical to the Active Duty one so it doesn't even say Reserve on the card anymore because they felt bad knowing that the Reserve now deploys just as much or even more than active duty and we still don't get any fucking respect! One strange thing I keep seeing is "The Defense Authorization Act of Fiscal Year 1998 (Public Law 105-85) of November 18, 1997, contains a provision (section 1102 of Title XI) which accords Veterans' preference to everyone who served on active duty during the period beginning August 2, 1990, and ending January 2, 1992, provided, of course, the veteran is otherwise eligible. This means that anyone who served on active duty during the Gulf War, regardless or where of for how long, is entitled to preference if otherwise eligible (i.e., have been separated under honorable conditions and served continuously for a minimum of 24 months or the full period for which called or ordered to active duty). This applies not only to candidates seeking employment, but to Federal employees who may be affected by reduction in force, as well." Does this mean that a First Gulf War veteran receiving retirement pay would still have preference for RIF? It's a bit confusing...

    • @the_bureaucrat
      @the_bureaucrat 10 часов назад

      What you are hitting on is the fact that just being a "Veteran" doesn't immediately translate into a "Veterans Preference". There are service requirements. This webpage provides some info (www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/veterans-services/vet-guide-for-hr-professionals/). What seems to be most important is that if someone got a veterans preference when they were hired, then they have a veterans preference when it comes to a RIF.

    I knew a captain whose senior rater (a major general) actually wrote, unjustly, "This officer should never be promoted." That captain told me himself after he turned in his resignation papers. That comment certainly did matter. That was a harsh general, though, who did the same thing to a couple of other officers and had the colonels shaking in their boots. His downfall, however, was that particular captain was an Academy grad, and our 4-star tracked Academy grads. He invited that captain to tell him the full story.

    • @the_bureaucrat

      I don't know...think about this...what if the MG had written the code words for "This officer should never be promoted".....You know, something like "This officer performs adequately with proper supervision." And the CPT didn't take the hint. The CPT might have wasted years of his life going nowhere. Yes it's harsh, but more than once I've had to sit a happy MAJ down, lay out their OERs, and say "What do you really see the Senior Raters saying about you?"

      This is crazy bureaucratic stuff. Active Duty is a status of orders while Retired is a subpart of the organization. Just like a Reservist can be placed on Active Duty orders without being moved to the Regular Army, a Retiree can remain in the Retired List but still be put on Active Orders...one interesting little program does that with Warrant Officers (armypubs.army.mil/epubs/DR_pubs/DR_a/ARN32942-ARMY_DIR_2021-28-000-WEB-1.pdf)

    I wore the "pinks and greens" in 1960 in ROTC. They were for officers only. Enlisted wore the Ike Jacket and wool trousers. When I went to Active duty I wore the ASU (it was all Green - remember) the shade was AG44. It was better looking and served a forward thinking purpose. Going back to the old "pinks and greens" is going back to the "Glory Days" of WWII when America was like and before we became DEI and politically correct. This shows Army mentality. They are not leaders anymore they are political "kissers". General MacArthur warned about this in 1962 when addressing the cadets at West Point in his Duty, Honor< Country speech. It isn't taught at West Point anymore. It should be. The Army changes uniforms design more often than General change their shorts.

    I think each of us carry parts of our military career, both good and bad. 1. It has been 18 years since my last deployment and I am finally living..as a person. 2. I don't carry my rank, however, I have never worked so hard at anything and was able to retire a Lt. Col. 3. My 24 years of military service is not my life, but it did shape the man who I am... Integrity, Compassion, and someone for my children and grandchildren to feel pride and honor for supporting me. I don't wear hats, no stickers on my vehicle, no shadow box or relics in my home. I learned a lot about my country both good and bad. I have learned to live my life now, in the moment, finally being present, being a better husband and knowing I did the best I could. It simply said, “When your military affiliation plays a major role in your being invited to the event” or words to that effect (it’s been over 27 years since I read them) I also always thought the uniform in question was the Class As but I suppose Mess Dress would be more appropriate for a Dining Out or Dining In. Regarding the beard, I’ve seen retirees with beards in uniform but to the best of my memory when I retired the regs said the same grooming standards applied as for active duty. That said, I also see a lot of active duty sporting beards these days?

      @the_bureaucrat 10 часов назад

      There is some kind of strange dodge when it comes to the beard and complying with standards. I don't know exactly what it is, but basically an active duty commander can authorize a beard in uniform...and since Retirees don't have a "commander" then they "authorize themselves".

    LOL, Call me sentimental.... I have a single set of each different uniform type I wore throughout my career. I have a pickle suit from the late seventies with PFC rank. A BDU (with the Elvis collars) with my Lieutenant rank. Another BDU (with a more normal collar) with Captain's rank, (Hello to Korea, Haiti, Balkans, Thailand and West Germany). A set of DCU I wore in in 2004, 2006 with Major's rank (Hello Iraq) A set of Multicam from 2009 with Silver Oak Leaves (Afghanistan) Just one set of each type. But, I do have the extra closet space ... So its not much of a problem.

      I would call this fairly practical and a good first step. It's easier to get rid of extra uniforms than all the uniforms.

    Yes, I really hate that the VA thinks we'll all pick Post 9/11 over MGIB. MGIB is far superior if you are taking online college. The one thing I haven't been able to figure out and I've called the VA education hotline 3 times now with no luck (none of them can answer) is this: If the Rudisill decision removed the previous revocation you were required to do (choose between Post 9/11 and MGIB)...then shouldn't we be able to get 48 months of MGIB OR 48 months of Post 9/11 or a mixture of the two depending on which one is a better benefit for the type of schooling we are going to?

    • @the_bureaucrat
      @the_bureaucrat 10 часов назад

      @durtydeedsREI ... #1) I appreciate your point about MGIB being better for different types of education. I'm intending to review the options and it helps to know why one might be better under special circumstances. #2) You can't get 48 months of MGIB or PGIB. The way those systems were set up gave them a 36 month limit. What the Rudisill decision really focused on was a separate rule that puts a 48 month cap on COMBINED education benefits. So you can use all 36 months of PGIB, but still not hit the 48 month cap. Rudisill argued that he should still be able to use a different program (MGIB) to get to the 48 month cap.

    • @durtydeedsREI
      @durtydeedsREI 9 часов назад

      @@the_bureaucrat Okay, so I guess the question would be...can we choose to use 36 months of MGIB and then only 12 months of Post 9/11? Thanks for the reply!

    Chuck - This is good information. New York has 5 Veteran's Homes. The one in Oxford, NY (rural, between Binghamton and Utica) is truly outstanding - it has a 5 star rating. After active duty I spent 31 years in the Guard/reserve like many. Two friends are residents there now - both have issues due to service in Nam. When I have visited it is as nice as any facility like that I have ever been in - it compares to a very expensive private facility a relative of mine was once in. I can't say enough good things about it. As another buddy says - 'this is the only nursing home I've ever been in that does not smell'. Another friend (also retired Army) is on the board there as he lives near. (yeah - it helps to be alumni of the battalion in Binghamton which is near) I have learned a lot about how hard they work at everything. People need to do their research as you stress - but be sure to look into the possibility. And in NY facilities a spouse can reside there as well - but I'm not sure of all the caveats.

      To be fair, the website in question is not the one owned by the State Veterans Homes. Its the one run by their National Association. So if a state doesn't update it, it stays out of date. I have the feeling that the National Association's directory isn't top priority for the Homes.

      @the_bureaucrat I dont get to touch the equipment anymore but when the guns are firing and MLRS is doing qualifications, it rattles my house...always a comforting noise. I often see illumination rounds in the sky from my back yard and it brings back great memories. I am lucky enough to have a few NCOs and officers working with me so I get to hear their stories. At times it is like I never retired.

    My children and I were driving past our local veterans home and my daughter asked "was that where I wanted to go when I got old"? "Yes" I said. She said it looked like a better option. They had planned to drop me off at a "Rest Area" because "Rest Homes" were expensive. She took after her Mother's side.

    Page 44: Important to know: If you are retired from active duty at O-4 or higher (and receiving a military pension) there are special rules. Bottom line: Unless you were medically retired from service for injuries/wounds suffered as a result of operations in which you were awarded a campaign medal (such as Iraq or Afghanistan), you do not have veteran's preference. Reason? The O-4 or higher retired officer is already receiving a generous pension with medical benefits. The U.S. people are making good on our obligation of a lifetime pension, and don't owe them a guaranteed second job to double dip with a military pension and a Federal job on top.

    Is the expiration date for the new 12 months when you use it? I still have like 28 months remaining on PGIB because I used VR&E to finish my BA.

    • @the_bureaucrat
      @the_bureaucrat 2 дня назад

      For PGIB, if you served after 1JAN2013, there is no expiration date. MGIB has an expiration date but under Rudisill it seems like there is a way to recalculate it.

    When my dad (an Army 05 at the time) was up for consideration for 06, he almost didn’t get promoted because he’d worked for a USMC Col who thought every officer was average, even the outstanding ones. It took a long discussion with him to get him to write a letter explaining his “unique” approach to writing OER’s…😂

    • @the_bureaucrat
      @the_bureaucrat 2 дня назад

      That's a classic example of how the shift from "average is good" to "average means no promotion" can screw people up. Raters from different communities can be less in tune with the implications of their behavior. When rating O5's, we often openly had the discussion "Do you want this person to be an O6?"
