    With the new 2560x1440 mode release in the experimental fitmware this should be your first choice and the second one 1080under.The scanline/CRT-mask types will look better than in the video :)

      I guess "DTV-858 (3:2)" should be the correct sampling mode for that resolution.

    Perfect video. It would be great to see a series of other consoles settings you prefer. The zoom in was so helpful because you have to be that intentional for me to see the differences.

    I'm running a vga cable from my Dreamcast to a RetroUpgrades VGA2SCART adapter, with a scart cable going into my RetroTink 5x Pro. The 1080p output options are sharp, but really dark. The 1200p output is brighter, and I can actually see the world in the game Silver for the first time. Thanks to these comments, I'm going to update my firmware and see if there's a better output setting that's been added.

    You can force 480p on 240p games by flipping the 480p switch on the vga converter right as it loads the disc.

    If I may offer a better cabling solution: a small number of games don't support RGB no matter what you do. Only composite and S-video. That's why I went with the official Sega VGA adapter. A simple workaround is to get a VGA to SCART transcoder. RetroUpgrades has one which is self powered and has no video degradation or brightness loss, it's called the VGA2SCART.

    • @wobblingpixels3921
      @wobblingpixels3921  2 года назад

      Your solution is also great but how do you display games that don't support 480p?

      @@wobblingpixels3921 RUclips won't let me post links to external sites, but you can find lists of games in forum threads and the like. Here's the games I know about.
      The PAL versions of the following three games support RGB, but not their NTSC versions.
      Giga Wing (US/JPN.)
      Skies of Arcadia/Eternal Arcadia (US/JPN.)
      Street Fighter Alpha/Zero 3 (US/JPN.)
      The following games also don't support RGB, not sure about their PAL versions though.
      Centipede (US)
      Coaster Works (US)
      Elemental Gimmick Gear (US)
      Gauntlet Legends (US)
      GunBird 2 (US)

      Jeremy McGrath Supercross 2000 (US)
      Jet Coaster Dream 2 (JPN)

      Powerstone 2 (JPN)
      Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear (US)

      The Grinch (US)
      Time Stalkers (US)
      Touken Retsuden 4 (JPN)
      Toy Story 2 (US)
      Vampire Chronicle for Matching Service (JPN)
      World Series Baseball 2002 (US)
      I haven't had the opportunity to confirm it, but Matt Buxton tells me the VGA2SCART allows non-VGA compatible games to output as 480i or 240p through a Dsub-15 cable. For any problem games, just switch the box over to S-video mode. I don't have a RetroTINK 5X yet, but my plan is to route VGA through the VGA2SCART and output that to the SCART input, and S-video to the S-video input for any problem games.

      I just tested three games:
      Skies of Arcadia works fine with thefoo83 cable and 15hz (RGB) option.
      Mortal Kombat Gold works fine with 480i (RGB) and 480p.
      Toy Story didn't boot with RGB option but it works fine with 480p.
      The fast majority (about 90%) from your list can be played or forced to 480p so there is no reason to use RGB or s-video for 480i except the small number of DC games that don't run in 480p.
      I added a list (for NTSC-U and PAL games) in the video description that I would trust:

    Hi guys, looking for some advice. My dreamcast outputs 31khz/vga fine but 15khz/rgb got strange issue with sync(looks like is inverted or over interlaced even on crt) but retrotink status shows that syn is constantly switching from 240p to 480i. Any ideas what could cause that?

  • @markus5862

    I have the retro access cable but I’ve yet to test it out! Do you think that’s the best one to use? Also you think 1080p is the best option for a sharp image? I have a 4K teli and I have no clue what to set the options too for dreamcast on the 5x. I’m not a scanlines guy. How come it loses sharpness when you go to 1200 and 1440p?

    • @wobblingpixels3921
      @wobblingpixels3921  2 года назад +1

      1080p under provides sqaure pixels (3:2 aspect ratio) and DTV optimal sampling settings. 1200p has also square pixels (3:2 aspect ratio) but no DTV options. 1440p has DTV options but you can set 3:2 aspect ratio.Thats why 1080p its the option for the dreamcast using vga (scart) cable

    Is there a way to get correct aspect ratio with 1440p output? I increased H size to 1921(I guess it's not possible 1920 due to H interpolation) to get a 4:3 1920x1440. The result is nice, but as I'm a bit noob, I'd like to know if there's something wrong I'm doing or there's a better way to get correct aspect ratio with 1440p output.

    Hoping you respond this time but why the 75ohm Variant?

    • @djrkzr
      @djrkzr 2 года назад +1

      If you asking about sync 75ohm, you've got 2 used standards 75ohm and TTL, 75ohm is tv standars(0.7v- if reckon correcly, scart, component etc) and TTL is 5v(which is 5x more, mostly vga standard) which is too much for rt5x and puting it simple would burn some components and corrupt the device.

    • @wobblingpixels3921
      @wobblingpixels3921  2 года назад

      AFAIR I responded to your question last time. The reason for 75ohm terminated is right in the R5x manual:
      "Only use SCART cables that provide sync using 75 ohm terminated luma or composite video or buffered/attenuated CSYNC. Use of unbuffered TTL CSYNC is expressly prohibited and may result in incompatibilities and/or damage. Under no circumstance is. RetroTINK LLC responsible for the use of improperly designed SCART equipment"
      I don't how the other cable is terminated. Most likely not with 75ohm so I recommend to buy the 75ohm version to make sure your got the right one.

    So I connected my Toro to the Tink 5x and ran a regular 15kHz-only SCART cable through the Toro, for some reason I remembered such a cable working on the Framemeister in both 15 and 31 kHz. I WAS WRONG! Do not plug in your SCART 240p 15 kHz only cable into the Toro it might brick the device
