- How to treat your home for subterranean termites in less than an hour using Imidacloprid granules for under $50. This product is BioAdvanced 700350A Termite Killer Home Perimeter Treatment, formally labeled as Bayer Advanced Carpenter Ant and Termite Killer.
IMPORTANT!!! For the granules to work you need to have dirt around most of the house and that dirt needs to be porous enough to allow water to seep into the ground fairly quickly. To find out if the dirt around your house is porous enough, just dig a small hole next to the house that is about 4 inches deep, 8 inches long, and just the width of the shovel. Fill the hole with water and watch to see how fast it drains down into the ground. If it seeps into the ground fairly quickly, then the granules should work just fine. However, if it just kind of sits there, then the granules would not be a good choice, and you should consider trenching. If it turns out that you need to trench, then please watch my video on how to do that correctly. There is a link below to that video. Trenching is a lot more work, but it only costs about $100 to do an average size home, and it lasts 5 to 10 years. Most people can trench an entire house in one day, but you can take up to a month to get it done, and you can literally do just 10 feet at a time.
IMPORTANT!!! Please make sure that you buy the correct granules. There are two kinds of granules now and one of them does not work. They are both manufactured by Bayer, but they really screwed up on one of these products. Make sure that you get the granules that use imidacloprid as the active ingredient. The correct granules are no longer available at a lot of the Home Depot and Lowes stores. However, they are still available on Amazon and I will give you a link to them below.
Please also watch my video on termite identification to be sure that you have subterranean termites. Drywood termites require a different treatment and, while Formosan termites are also subterranean and can be prevented with this product, additional treatments with other products may be required to ensure total extermination of Formosan termites. Sir you’ve saved me many hundreds of dollars over the next few years. They don’t sell that product in Australia however there is a similar one on eBay which I can get. I plan on ordering fipronil granules and using those instead. Your experience as a professional pest controller more than validated everything you say.

You are not the first person from Australia to point out that BioAdvanced is not available there. Okay, let's talk a bit about fipronil and Imidacloprid. BioAdvanced uses Imidacloprid as the active ingredient. Both are effective against termites. The only thing is that I have never tried fipronil granules for termite extermination. Generally, the way fipronil is used is by digging a trench around the building and dumping in gallons of the product in the trench and mixing the fill soil with it while filling in the trench. That method is very effective, but also very labor intensive and expensive. Now, I don't see why a fipronil granules used the same way as a Imidacloprid granules would not work, but I have never tried it. That being said, there are also other granular products that contain Imidacloprid, that are not labeled for termites. I have never tried these either, but I see no reason why they would not work, as long as the concentration of the active ingredient is the same or higher than is used in the BioAdvanced Termite Killer. One such product is Merit 0.5 Granular Systemic Insect Control. The BioAdvanced has an active ingredient percentage of .37 percent and the Merit 0.5 Granular Systemic Insect Control has an active ingredient percentage of .5 percent, so the Merit 0.5 Granular Systemic Insect Control should actually work better. At least in theory. I do not know if this product is available in Australia, but you may be able to order it from Amazon or eBay. Again, I have not tried either the fipronil or off label Imidacloprid granules on termites, but if I had to choose, I would pick the Imidacloprid granules because that is the ingredient that has been proven to work when used in granular form on termites when sprinkling it around the building and watering it in. In any event, I would love it if you would get back to me with the results of whichever product you go with, so that I can share that information with other folks from Australia who may also have the same issue. Finally, I cannot tell you how humbled I am that folks in Australia are watching my videos. That totally blows my mind. I happen to have a soft spot in my heart for Australia because I visited Sydney for a week during the Vietnam war. I was a Marine at the time and I went there for R&R and I totally fell in love with the culture and the people. I gave serious thought to moving there, but my family made it clear that they needed me in the States. Still, I have very fond memories of your country and I was so lucky to have the opportunity to experience it.

@@rezaazar6386 Apparently it is not easy to buy pesticides in Australia. Most places seem to restrict sales to licensed pest controllers. Someone mentioned a place in Queensland that will sell fipronil in liquid form to do it yourselfers, but I have not confirmed that information. I think that would also be quite a drive for you. Still, I will place a link below. Also, there is a company that I think will ship PCT Fipronil Granular Ant Killer to you. It's a granular product that, as the label implies, is for ants. I have no idea if it will work for termites, but it may. You could try to sprinkle it around the house right up to the foundation, hoping that it will leach into the ground the same way that the BioAdvanced Termite Killer does. I think it could work, but I have never seen or used this product, so it would require some experimentation. I will place a link below. As for eBay, they have pretty much everything you could want, but I don't know if anyone will ship to Australia. I plan to write to the Bayer Company and find out why they only distribute in the US. I'm guessing that they don't want to mess around with the regulations. Still, I am going to ask. I'm sorry that I cannot be of more assistance.

However, if those sorts of things are out of financial reach or you would rather use the savings to put your kids through college or pay off the mortgage and you are capable of doing the work, then by all means you should just do it yourself. I do lots of stuff myself and RUclips is a Godsend. There are videos on just about everything. My car dealership wanted $50 to change my cabin air filter and I was able to buy one on Amazon for $8 and it took about 10 minutes to do it myself. All I did was watch a video on it and it was super easy. It's that way for a lot of pest problems as well. Just about anyone can do it. Thanks for watching.

Hi Guy, I'm loving your videos. You are so thorough and calm. I seem to have brought termites to my garden beds through mulch from the store. When I bought the house 5 yrs ago, I went around with the inspector and bug inspector asking them questions and they told me what to look for, so I've always kept an eye on things. Anyway, I have termites in the mulch that touches my front patio/porch, and the side of my house. I've checked my whole house, but these were the only two places I put mulch in. There are no mud tunnels, and I don't see damage anywhere. I do think I have ants making homes inside my weep holes though. I ordered the Taurus, can I just treat the exterior of my home with it (I'm also doing this for pest control per another video of yours), and also soak the mulch beds? Since I don't seem to have an "issue" other than termites being present, would I need to trench? I'm thinking in the future, I would use the Bayer product that you reference in this video, since I already ordered the Taurus, and we have a brown widow problem in our area (as well as roaches). I live in Houston, TX. Thank you!
First, I love your username. It reminds me of Gone With the Wind. Very cool. You should know that you most likely did not bring the termites into your garden beds in the mulch. They were most likely there already and you just provided them with a tasty food source. Subterranean termites are fairly easy to deal with, but since you live in Houston, you may have a more serious problem. You are in an area where Formosan termites are a problem and these guys are also known as super bugs for a reason. They are arguably the most destructive and aggressive termite known to the world. I don't know if the termites you are looking at are Formosan, but they could be and you need them gone right now. They are nothing to fool around with. So, here's what you do. Don't just think about treating your home with the BioAdvanced granules. Just do it. Do it now. Believe me. If you get Formosan termites in you home, you are going to regret it and you can stop them cold with the granules. The thing is though that after they get in, the granules may not work to get rid of them. The granules will do a wonderful job preventing Formosan termites, but once you have them you are in for a nightmare straight from the bowels of Hell. So, spend the $50 and regard yourself lucky that, so far, you have not seen tunnels. Keep in mind though that unlike regular subterranean termites where the tunnels are close to the ground, Formosan tunnels may be up in the attic, so you need to go check. Immediately after treating the perimeter of the house, mix up some of that Taurus SC in a battery operated sprayer and soak the mulch really good. It's best to move the mulch and also spray the ground under the mulch as well as soaking the mulch really good. The nice thing about the granules and the Taurus SC is that the termites will not know that they are being poisoned and they will happily pass through those pesticides and take them back to the colony and share it with the other termites, including the queen. Then it's lights out for the entire colony. I don't mean to scare you, but you would be justified here in being concerned. These guys may not be Formosan, but you cannot take chances where you live. You should just assume that they are Formosan and get rid of them ASAP.
Now let's talk about the ants. You need to identify the species to be sure of what you are dealing with. If they are carpenter ants, then there could be a satellite colony inside the home. The problem with carpenter ants is that they do not always go outside the home to forage for food, so they may not cross the barrier that you put there. So, take a look at these gals (They are all female). If they are large and black, then they are probably carpenter ants. If they are tiny, then they are not so much of a worry. The Taurus SC should take care of them, unless they are an inside ant like a Pharaoh ant. You will know because you will see activity inside the house. If they are carpenter ants, then you may need to do an interior treatment as well. I suspect that you have already watched my carpenter ant video, but I will give you a link to it in case you have not seen it and in case you do have carpenter ants.
Finally, you mentioned roaches. Of all the bugs I have encountered, I hate roaches the most. Please let me know if you are getting these things inside the house. If the roaches are quite large, then they are most likely American roaches and the exterior treatment will usually take care of them. However, if you have gone into the kitchen early in the morning and saw small roaches scampering away when you turned on the lights, then you have a serious problem and you need to get back to me about it.

The problems that you are going to have in Australia are that I don't know of anybody that will ship the granules outside of the United States, you have very restrictive laws that prevent you from buying a lot of pesticides, and I think you have some species of termites there that are quite different than the most common ones we have here in the States. Even here we have a couple of species where the granules will not work. Happily, those species are not common, but they do exist. Most of the species that we have here are subterranean, and only travel just a few inches below the surface of the ground. The way the granules work is that they leach into the ground a few inches, where the termites travel back and forth to and from the colony. The colony is always underground and never in the home, and the termites have to go back to the colony to obtain the moisture they need to survive, and to feed the other termites that do not leave the colony. That means they have no choice put the pass through the termiticide that was released by the granules. They bring it back to the colony and share it with the other termites. Then it's lights out for the entire colony. I am given to understand that in Australia you may have some species that are capable of traveling much deeper in the ground and so they may be able to avoid the granules. Here in the US, we never treat down to the footing of the foundation, but that is a very common practice in Australia. That may be why you are looking at that high treatment estimate. There is a good chance that this would be something you could treat yourself, and even though you have very restrictive laws, I think I know a place that will ship some pesticides to you. I will place a link below for you. Of course, you will need to know the species, so that you will know how to treat. Hopefully, the pest control company that gave you the estimate listed the specific species and also gave you a written treatment plan. If they did not, then I recommend going back to them and asking what these specific species is and tell them you want to know exactly how they plan go about treating the problem. Once you have this information, you will be able to determine if this is something you want to try to do yourself. If you do, then I recommend purchasing a product that has fipronil as the active ingredient. I think it is available from the supplier that I am listing below. Just search their site for "fipronil."
If you find that this will be more than you want to take on, then the most cost-effective thing you can do would be to get more than one estimate. I don't know how it is in Australia, but I can tell you that here in the States, prices for pest control can vary wildly. I have seen estimates for termite treatments vary as much as $1000 between the lowest and the highest bidder. Pest controllers here in the US do not charge for estimates, so I always tell people to get as many estimates as possible. I even did a video on how to hire a pest controller without getting ripped off. It may be helpful for you to watch that video. Some of the information may not apply to Australia, but it may still give you some good ideas about how to get the best price. I will place a link below for you.

So, all I can do is provide you with the best information that I have, but I may or may not be correct about all of it. I can only go by what people have told me in the past.

None ship here to Australia, or at least the 2 I found, are prohibitively expensive for that and 'customs' duty on top - I can only find one place here that sells it in I think 10kg+ containers (maybe 20+) - and, unsure if they would even sell to consumers and not just termite companies - VERY useful info, will save this all and look more thoroughly into it! We have another guy coming monday, who uses a foam to kill them (our first priority, given we've found live ones in 2 opposing corners of the house (HOPEFULLY still localised!). In any case - your video was a Godsend, and I have ZERO doubt it's been helpful to MANY! I hope your channel grows massively mate! - I've been creating youtube content for 16 years now, but non-specific genres, like some how to's, vlogs etc, and normally light-hearted entertainment, so you're definitely on the ight track as I've said many times on my channel, and in playlists with advice for new youtubers, about sticking to one genre to grow your channel. A lot of people don't realize this, but there are over 2000 different species of termites in the world. Here in the US we only have about 40. Of those, there are less than 10 species that attack homes. The majority of those species are subterranean, and all act the same way, so they get treated the same way. In fact, they are so similar in behavior that we just kind of lump them together and just call them subterranean termites. Unfortunately, this is not the case in many other countries. There are over 300 different species in Australia. I think the vast majority of them do not attack homes, but I think some of the ones that do can be quite nasty and may behave quite different than what I have seen in my career. That is why I think it is smart to consult pest controllers in your area. When you chat with pest controllers, I recommend asking a lot of questions. I would want to know the specific species, but it would also be helpful to ask them how that specific species behaves. I would ask them things like, where do they colonize, how large are typical colonies, how deep do they travel under the ground if they are subterranean, how quickly could this species destroy your home, what are all the treatment options, which treatment plan works the best, how much does each treatment option cost, what chemicals do you plan to use, and so forth. Speaking with a local expert is a wonderful opportunity to educate yourself on the species that is attacking your home and that information will prove to be valuable as you speak with other pest controllers. If you start talking their language, then they are less apt to try and hand you a snow job. Don't be all that surprised if you find that different pest controllers give you somewhat different information. This can happen for a variety of reasons. You may encounter a pest controller that does not know as much as they should, they may have been poorly trained, or they may be trying to frighten you into giving them the job without shopping further. I visited Australia in the late 1960s, and I found the people to be absolutely wonderful, but people are still people around the world, and I'm sure you have your share of folks who would be more than happy to take advantage of you. I guess all of that is to say that I recommend a grain of caution when you speak with pest controllers. When you have more than one pest controller telling you the same exact thing, then that is probably what is actually going on. Beware of the lowballers’ that give you a great price, but are not going to get the job done correctly. I see it here all the time. They come in and offer to treat for $300, instead of the $2000 that the others charge. That should be a red flag, but it is amazing how many folks get talked into it and end up with the termites eating away fat and happy. That doesn’t mean that a spot treatment or something like that won’t work, but it may not be a sure thing. I have run into situations where I could not trench and I offered to spot treat for free, just to see if it would help, before going nuclear on the problem. Sometimes it does work, but it’s kind of what we call here, “Throwing a Hail Mary Pass.” That’s why I would never charge for it, and I would always explain the risks. So, be careful. My fantasy is that the industry is a lot more honest in Australia than it is here, but who knows?

I reckon that most people are essentially the same world-wide; the last couple of years though, plus bullshit reasons by governments/ corporations, to justify their financial extortion on fuel and basic grocery costs, have created (maybe deliberately?) a wedge between people...some unscrupulous individuals of course are manipulating global events to their financial benefit, including tradesmen - but then; that's always been an ugly element of the greedy, so nothing especially new, other than there now seems a lot more of those people...

Just got it yesterday. I'm ready to try this out. This video is very helpful.
The granules work for about 95% of homes. For the granules to work you need to have dirt around most of the house and that dirt needs to be porous enough to allow water to seep into the ground fairly quickly. To find out if the dirt around your house is porous enough, just dig a small hole next to the house that is about 4 inches deep, 8 inches long, and just the width of the shovel. Fill the hole with water and watch to see how fast it drains down into the ground. If it seeps into the ground fairly quickly, then the granules should work just fine. However, if it just kind of sits there, then the granules would not be a good choice, and you should consider trenching, if you have an active infestation. If it turns out that you need to trench, then please watch my video on how to do that correctly. Trenching is a lot more work, but it only costs about $100 to do an average size home, and it lasts 5 to 10 years. Most people can trench an entire house in one day, but you can take up to a month to get it done, and you can literally do just 10 feet at a time.
Make sure that you buy the correct granules. You need the ones that have imidacloprid as the active ingredient. A lot of the Home Depot and Lowes stores no longer sell the correct granules, but you can get them from Amazon. I will give you a link to them.
If you do not have an active infestation already, you may want to also consider using monitoring stations around your home. I use both the granules and the monitoring stations. I will give you a link to my video on how to make them for under 50 cents each. I put them around my entire house for less than $25.

Lol thousands of them, and they seem to be gone now. Yet I was worried about the termites, don't want them to ever be a problem. You are very welcome. The granules should work well for you in Florida. Please keep in mind though that the granules only work for subterranean termites. You also have drywood termites in your area. These guys fly to your house and do not travel underground like subterranean termites do, so you need to prevent them differently. I have a video on how to do that and I will give you a link to it. Please keep an eye out for frass and kick out holes. Frass looks a little like sawdust and you will find it on the floor next to the walls and sometimes under cabinets or even furniture. Just above the frass, you will see tiny holes that were created by the termites to remove the frass. You should know that pest control companies usually do not do a good job finding drywood termites because they are easy to miss. Therefore, even if you had your home inspected prior to purchase, they may have missed an infestation.
Too bad that you didn't find my video on fire ants before you paid for a treatment. My video shows how to get rid of fire ants for about $10. Anyone can do it and it literally take minutes to do. I promise that the fire ants will most likely be back. That is because your neighbors have them too and they will eventually find their way back to your yard. If that happens, just do the treatment in my video. It works overnight and it's super easy to do.

I was a contractor on a job in Helotes Texas and I saw clear evidence of a termite infestation in a vacant house for sale. I reported it , the homeowner hired a supposed termite expert and he lied because the house was for sale even as winged termites were flying all over the place inside. 😂The homeowners attempted to lock me out and keep my tools until the police were called. I left and never returned.

This seems like good honest information BUT, what if the termites are already in your house and in the walls? How do you kill them that’s already in the walls?
Hi David. If you have subterranean termites, then this product will kill the existing termites that are already infesting you home. You can speed up the process if you know where the termites are, by treating the infested area directly with a fipronil foam. Now, not all termites are subterranean, but 90 percent of them are. Before you proceed with the BioAdvanced treatment, let's make sure that you do have subterranean termites and not something like Formosan or drywood termites. Please have a look at my DIY Termite Identification video. I will place a link below. There is a map in that video that shows where Formosan and drywood termites are a problem. If you live outside of the red and orange areas, then you most likely just have plain vanilla subterranean termites that are very easy to get rid of with the BioAdvanced granules and maybe some fipronil foam. However, if you live inside of the red or orange areas, then please get back to me so that we can talk about how to make a positive identification of the species. Regardless of what it is, I can assist you with it and I am very happy to do that. I know that it sounds strange that, if you just place the BioAdvanced granules outside, that it will kill the termites inside as well, yet that is exactly what happens. You see, subterranean termites MUST return to the ground fairly often to obtain moisture and to bring food back to the rest of the colony, which is always in the ground and never in your home. These guys never colonize in your home, they always colonize in the ground. They just go out to eat and they regard your home as their favorite restaurant. So, since they must go home fairly often, they pass through the BioAdvanced granules and they bring the pesticide back to the colony with them and they share it with the rest of the termites. Then it's lights out for the entire colony, including the queen. By shooting a fipronil foam into know areas of activity, you are placing the pesticide directly into an area that the termites are working on. Just like the BioAdvanced granules, the termites do not know that this is a poison, so they just ignore it and take it back to the colony with them. So, by doing both treatments, it is virtually impossible for the termites to avoid contact with at least one of the treatments. Now, you may ask why not just do the foam? Well, you may be infested by more than one colony and the other colony may be infesting an area that you do not know about. The BioAdvanced granules will place a barrier around your entire home that all the termites must pass through. The fipronil foam works faster than the granules, so it will give the process a boost as well. It only costs about $27 for a can and one can is all you need. I will place a link below for it. To use it, just drill a small hole about a half inch deep into the area of the infestation and shoot the foam in for about five seconds. You should do this about every six inches for the entire length of the damaged areas. I really appreciate this video, we bought our first house 6 months ago and noticed some signs of termites after our bathroom and kitchen remodel - Your video has given me the confidence to treat it ourselves and save us some money that we need pretty badly. Congratulations on purchasing your first home. You live in Formosan termite territory and just on the edge of drywood termite territory. Close enough where you should check the species to make sure that these guys are a common variety of termites and not something more serious. I know that I was probably just speaking Greek to you, but the takeaway should be that there is more than one species of termites where you live, and the granules do not work for all of them. There is a good chance that the granules will work in your case, but I think it would be wise to make sure. So, I would like you to watch one more video that will explain how to identify termite species. I will give you a link to it. Don't worry. This is not as hard as you may think. All I need you to do is look for mud tubes, kick out holes, and frass. I explain what they are in the video. I need to know if you see any kick out holes and frass anywhere in the home, including the attic and crawlspace/basement. I also need to know if you are seeing mud tubes and where in the house you are seeing them. Are they outside? Are they in the attic. Are they in the eaves? Are they coming up from the ground? If you have a crawlspace or basement, are they in there? Also, can you obtain a specimen of one of the termites? If these are termites, then they should be cream colored. Some of them will have red heads and I need to look at one those. So, catch it alive and put it in a jar. It will die quickly, then take a photo of it for me and send it to guyspestsolutions@gmail.com. I need one with a red head and I need the photo to be as close up as possible and very well in focus. That will allow me to make a positive ID on it. If these guys are not cream colored, then they are not termites. If they are black, then you have carpenter ants.
Meanwhile, it certainly cannot hurt to apply the granules. You live in California, and everything is illegal there when it comes to pest control. So, if you cannot obtain the granules from Amazon, then you can get them from domyown.com. I will provide a links for them. Try Amazon first because they are cheaper. Do not buy them from Home Depot or Lowes because they no longer sell the right ones.

Thankyou for giving us this info I have termites in an out building have minor floor damage . I had no idea where to start to get rid of them. Thankyou very lnformative I will definitely check out your other videos.
It also helps to shoot some fipronil foam into the damaged areas. Just drill small holes into the damaged areas and shoot in the foam for about five seconds. The foam will expand to about 30 times its size and it will get into all the voids made by the termites. You don't need to do this with subterranean termites, but it greatly speeds up the process. So, if you have floor damage, then shooting some foam in there will definitely ruin their afternoon. You still need to do the granules, because you want to be sure to get them all, but hitting them right where they are shortens the process by a factor of about 50 percent and the foam only costs about $29 a can and one can is all you should need. I will place a link below for it. Normally the granules take between four to eight weeks to be fully effective and the foam will cut that down to two to four weeks. The reason it takes so long is that the granules need to melt and then leach into the ground in order to work and then it's a slow kill process. You don't want to kill these guys too fast because you want them to take the pesticide back to the colony, which is always in the ground, and then share it with the other termites. I hope that helps. If you are not seeing any mud tubes around the home and you are not seeing any termite damage, then there is a good chance that it was just the picnic table that was getting attacked. It's a good thing you caught it early, because they would have eventually found your house. Just to be sure though, I would suggest that you have a look up in the attic and in the crawl space, if you have one, to see if there are any mud tubes in those locations. If not, then I think you dodged a bullet. The granules are going to protect you from getting infested. Just be sure to apply them every year.

@@josh_reagan I'm sorry. Unfortunately, drywood termites do not travel in the ground like subterranean termites. These guys literally fly to your house, so the granules will not work at all in their case. I do have a couple of videos regarding drywood termites that may be of interest to you. I have a video that goes over all of your treatment options. After watching that video, if you decide that you would like to attempt treating this problem yourself, then I have a video on how to do that. Finally, you should know that, if you have dry wood termites, then most of your neighbors have them as well. Therefore, if you eliminate your infestation, you are going to get infested again sometime within the first year after you finish the work. There is one way to prevent this and I did a video on that as well. I will provide links to all three videos below. I recommend that you watch them in the order that I give them to you. The first one that covers your treatment options is going to be very informative about how realistic it is to do anything other than fumigation. I think this video is a must watch if you have dry wood termites. You only need to watch the second one on how to treat this yourself, if you decide this is the course of action you wish to take. Otherwise, you can skip it and just go to the third video, which is also a must watch in order to prevent future infestations.

Fill the hole with water and watch to see how fast it drains down into the ground. If it seeps into the ground fairly quickly, then the granules should work just fine. However, if it just kind of sits there, then the granules would not be a good choice, and you should consider trenching. Make sure that you buy the correct granules. You need the ones that have imidacloprid as the active ingredient. A lot of the Home Depot and Lowes stores no longer sell the correct granules, but you can get them from Amazon. My house was treated 43 years ago with Chlordane. But these are good videos, very informative, even for guys like me, because, when I did termite work, they didn't have monitoring stations nor those granules. Keep up the good work.👍

@@clelladams2326 Yep! They said it stayed in the ground too long -- over 40 years. As for toxicity, JPA said he used to have it running off his arms while he was treating houses. He'd be drilling blocks with one hand and pumping Chlordane in the last hole with the other. He was 85 , I believe, the last time I saw him. And they said Elmo Duncan used to wash his lunch dishes in the stuff. He lived to be pretty old, too.

I worked with chlordane too back in the day. Very effective, but also very dangerous. It was banned for a reason. I'm pretty sure that I know some people who died from it. I can't be sure if that was the cause, but I do have evidence to suggest that this is the case. There is nothing like it for trenching though. The truth is that I would still use it if I had it. Let me know if you are in the red or orange areas on the map. If so, the granules may not work for you. The red flag is when you said that it is a bad infestation. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I found termites in my detached garage. After I watched your video, I went around the perimeter with this product. The previous owners put concrete around the whole house, so I treated the soil next to it. I checked the garage yesterday and didn't see a single termite.
Keep monitoring for mud tubes. If you see any mud tubes, then break open about a 2-inch section to see if there are any termites inside. If not, then wait to see if the mud tube is rebuilt. If it is not rebuilt in a few days, then the infestation is gone. If you find an active infestation after using the granules, then please get back to me. The granules usually take up to 12 weeks to work. That is by design, because you need to kill them slowly. It sounds like you already got them, but let's make sure. Be well my friend.

Hi Marcey. Your termite company is probably not being dishonest. They just have their own paradigm about how to deal with termites, which just happens to be somewhat incorrect. What they do works. It's just that it's generally not necessary. If you just use the granules every year you will never have subterranean termites. It's just that simple. It's funny because I have had some pros write to me and say that this stuff will never work and I am misleading people. After I explain to them why it WILL work and the science behind it and I challenge them to actually give it a try, they always take down their comment and I never hear from them again. That's because they are most likely embarrassed that they posted something so stupid for a pro to say. Once it was explained to them, they realize that they should have already know why it will work. In fact, I have never seen it fail. So, you can go ahead and fire your termite company and just use the granules. Don't fire them because they are doing a bad job or being dishonest because they aren't. You should fire them because you can do this yourself for a lot less money. By the way, congratulations on the new home. Buying your first home is really exciting. I am very happy for you and you should be very proud of yourself. What a wonderful accomplishment. Hi Guy - Your answer to Paul was GOLD to me - I was not aware that termites had to return to their nest via the ground and did not live permanently in the structure - Mine are in our shed and come from huge 50 to 80 foot trees about 8 feet away - Here white ant guys are quoting AU$2500 to $2800 to eliminate the nest (already paid up for this treatment in 2012) when all I have to do is surround the shed which is about 10ft by 10 foot with the whole contents of the termite killer (AU$ 196 delivered on Amazon) - Shed is never entered as it is only used for storing spare tiles from bathrooms and kitchen when building so I am going to spray walls with chlordane and deildren plus Borate wood treatment - Happy to do it every year or so and to make baits from the stuff - SO SO glad I saw your youtube - Thanks mate - Brian
Hi Brian. I'm thinking from the "AU$" that you live in Australia. The problem in Australia is that most pesticides are banned by the government, unless you have a license, so they are hard to get. Also, the BioAdvanced granules are only available in the US and most suppliers will not ship to Australia. That makes do it yourself treatments a lot more challenging. I am not entirely familiar with Australian law, but if you can get your hands on a product called "Bora-Care" and the shed has unfinished walls inside, then you are in luck. If you mix Bora-Care at a ratio of one to one with water and simply spray it on all surfaces inside the shed, then it will penetrate into the wood deep enough so that the termites will eat it and then take it back to colony. That will kill off the entire colony. As an added benefit, the Bora-Care treatment lasts forever and never needs to be reapplied. Use it once and you're done. The wood must be unfinished though. It cannot be painted, stained, or sealed in any way. Bora-Care uses boron as the active ingredient, which is perfectly safe for the environment and it's a substance that is found naturally in nature. It's nontoxic and is used in all sorts of products, including some laundry detergents. That does not mean that Australia has not banned it for use by unlicensed people, but there is no reason for it to be banned. So, if it were me, this would be my first line of defense in your situation. Please let me know if you can find Bora-Care and if you want to go with this option. If you do, I can provide information on how to use it properly.
By the way. I visited Sydney in 1969 and I loved it. I was on R&R from Vietnam and was able to spend a week there. I'm sure things have changed a lot since my visit, but I have no doubt that the people are just as wonderful as they were when I was there. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I was temped to move there, but decided not to because of my family. Still, I remember my visit fondly. You live in a wonderful country.

Thanks for your informative videos, Guy! We live in Indiana and have just sub. termites, just found a 6 ft. piece of trim eaten away. Question is "should we trench with Taurus SC. OR SHOULD we use this Bayer Advanced granule/watering treatment." This video is 3 yrs old so I'm wondering why granules used this time, and 3 yrs later, liquid and trenching is used. Hello, THANK YOU for taking the time and effort to do this video AND even more for taking the time to reply to everyone's questions! I learned a lot from the video and the answers you posted in the comments :-) I did try to find the answer to my questions by reading some of the comments - and I'm sure you have been asked this but with nearly 4,000 comments I didn't easliy see it. My question is how do you treat a house that has a deck area when it is adjacent to the house? My neighbor has a 20x24 foot deck and one side is directly against the garage and the other the house. The deck is less than 2 feet off the ground. The boards on the deck do not have any gaps that you could sprinkle the granules in - like you suggested for the expansion gaps. Thanks for your time.
Second question: If a house had termites 2 years ago and the house was treated.... by those guys who charge 600 bucks :-) would this method work at keeping the termites from coming back? Or because the termites already 'crossed' into the house should something else be done too?
How you handle that will depend on the species. Figuring out the species is actually pretty easy and I have a video on how to do that. I will provide you with a link below. After watching this video, you should be able to identify the species. Just get back to me after you watch it and let me know what you found out. At that point, I can tell you exactly what you need to do. Let me know if you have any problems identifying the species, but I do not think that you will. It is much easier than you may imagine. Also, please tell me where you live. Location matters.

Make sure that you buy the correct granules. You need the ones that have imidacloprid as the active ingredient. A lot of the Home Depot and Lowes stores no longer sell the correct granules, but you can get them from Amazon. I will give you a link to them.

A couple of years ago i had a concrete foundation beam poured around my house perimeter. I saw that as an opportunity to pour termiticide in a trench around my house since the trench was already getting dug. But this granular approach looks like a promising way to treat my out buildings. Thanks!

I appreciate your video very Much. Thank You ! Many companies care very little about your pocket book. The key take away from this suggestion is this is an annual job. Its not a 10 or 20 year fix. But FYI the companies do not offer a 10 year warranty anyway so this a great help. I have termites. I will be applying the brand you are using and will add results after... Perhaps with some video.

Also, I forgot to mention in the video that the process takes between two to eight weeks to work, depending upon how heavy you apply the granules, the soil conditions, the extent of the infestation, and other factors. It is not meant to be a fast process because you want the termites to take the pesticide back to the colony and share it with the other termites. The colony is always in the ground and never in your home. Since the termites must return to the colony fairly often, they have no choice but to pass through the pesticide. If it were a fast kill product, then the termites would die before they could effectively spread it around the colony. It's the same with the trenching that the pros do. It works the same way, except trenching is a little faster because you don't need to worry about the leaching process. Still, trenching takes two to four weeks in most cases. So, please be patient. After eight weeks, break open a mud tube and see if you have any activity. My guess is that you will not see any termites. Don't worry that it takes so long to work. Subterranean termites are slow eaters and will not do much damage in this relatively short period of time. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Thank you for sharing this with others! I really can't thank you enough. I applied this around my house but I think I watered too much. I watered the pellets until they dissolved. It had been a while since I watched your video and I forgot that you said not to over water. I'm going to order another bottle off amazon and re-do it.
The only reason not to over water is because you don't want the granules to wash away from the house. If they stayed in place and just melted, then you should be okay. Are you seeing any damaged areas or mud tubes. If so, I can tell you how to give the process a nice boost for about another $30. You don't need to do it, but it can really speed up the process. Just let me know.
