Every Been To Downeast Scenic Railroad in Maine? It’s pretty nice there and their even Restoring a former Maine Central Pacific Type! (At least I think Its from Maine Central Railroad)
It says Scenic in the description and that's exactly what you get - fantastic scenery. With that as a backdrop, it's easy to see why this locomotive is so popular. The high points are the bridge crossings, that spectacular downward view at 08:30 and the wonderful reflection at 17:09. The demonstration freight train was also a highlight. The only question: was it really necessary to have TWO diesels at the back? Greetings and Merry Christmas, Bob K.
Normally, when they do the normal run to Faybyan in fall, they use #216 & #252, because they can be MU’d together for extra horsepower. #7470 was barely powering this trip, so they mainly used #252 & #216. If there was one (ex. 252), there wouldn’t be enough power. Only 2000 horsepower. With both units, the combined HEP is 4500, and also 7470.
@@DynamoProductions-trains certainly was! Weird that was instead of going through a loop, they just pulled us to a siding, and went to the back of the train and tugged us back to the station. Idk if that’s just to reduce the ride due to the outbreak?
@@NortheastCorridorFilms It depends on what facilities already exist at the railroad in question. The East Broad Top for instance turns the entire train using a wye. Strasburg simply moves the engine from one end of the the train to the other in a run around move, like Conway. Cass simply shoves the train up the mountain and pulls it back down, never turning the engines or cars, nor changing what end of the train the engine is on. And Western Maryland uses a turntable to turn the engine(s) only, and then runs around the train.
The fact that they allow kids that close to the tracks both scares me and makes me happy. I’m happy because the kids get to have fun but I’m scared that someone’s gonna get hurt or worse.
History of me riding this train 2016 to 2019 I rode in Geutrude Emma on the valley route 2022 I rode Hurricane Mountain on Sawyer River route. I also really wanted to ride the Mountaineer too 2023: GBS, Mountaineer to Fabyans, can say I rode all main excurisons.
I think I saw on an Instagram post from the Conway scenic railroad that they only have her CN whistle on her and don't plan on adding another. They removed the secondary whistle mount when they did her restoration.
No one judge me but I know 2019 was mainly the year of the return of big boy 4014 but I'm kinda more hyped 7470 returned to service. I was starting to like it a lot when it returned to service and like it more than I expected. And even though I got the chance to see 4014 myself and get my hat signed by ed dickens and a picture with him when 4014 was in California I still kinda prefer 7470 that is now my favorite Canadian national locomotive. Also makes me miss my original favorite that I still have faith it'll run again in the future even though many people have told me this one might possibly never steam again
There are three whistles they often use on 7470. And she can have two mounted at the same time. So ots very possible its a different whistle than you heard.
@@DynamoProductions-trains That's awesome, thanks for the info!. I spent my summers there as a kid and had a cabin right off the tracks. I would see 7470 every time she headed to Conway.
I wonder how often 7470 runs each year? Not sure if anyone knows since she just returned to service last year after 4 year rebuild so I understand if no one knows the answer
@@DynamoProductions-trains ok then so mainly the fall? what about during the spring or summer and winter? She ran in the summer for some years I recall, and during the winter
Nice to see a new video of the Conway Scenic R.R and 7470, I'm glad she's back to her excursions. Welcome back 7470!
Glad you enjoyed
Who knew that a small little switching engine which didn’t matter that much on Canadian national now is the icon of the railroad
Good to see Steam back at Conway.
It was nice to see after four years of work
Dang, I almost saw it on the air show train but we missed it by like 10 minutes

Hey SLR... That's a Steamer.... MY kind of Loco-Motion... LOL
last time i went up to our holiday house at NC I saw the funnel, boiler and cab but I couldnt fully see it and get a picture before it left :C
Amazing work! That gives me more of a reason to go to NH now!

The diesels are used for dynamic braking on the return trip, it's a 2+% downgrade to Conway from the Notch
Next month I’m going onto this! I’m so excited. I’ll be camping in a HUGE RV and during our week of camping we will go on this
Hope you had fun

@@journeythroughtherails5294 No, that's how they do it. It's easier to runaround the train than have to install a turning facility.
@@DynamoProductions-trains Is that how it is for all Conway Scenic railroads?
Or is this the only conway scenic railroad?

Very well done video. Almost as good as my 1992 Conway Scenic Video! ;) It took me almost a year to produce it. But this is good!
Awesome video! I was planning on going up there but things got in the way and I was unable but hopefully in 2020 I'll be going

Conway 7470 is now back
As you can see in the video
7470 sounds bigger with that Grand trunk 6 chime which sounds a lot like MLW 261’s whistle which it still has but I think it’s been changed

It’s a CN 6 Chime
@@ThomasJM I know this to be true... I offered them my B&M 6 chime and they (meaning someone in particular) ran away from it like it was COVID

At the 9 minute mark, all those cars parked there - all railfans chasing the trip?
Yes it was. Not only was this one of 7470s first runs after rebuild, but it running the whole line to Crawford Notch is a rare event even normally.
7470 is a good looking 0-6-0.
1. Isn’t she a bit small for the run to Crawford Notch?
2. Is the line from North Conway to Conway going to be reopened?
Awesome video!!! I chased that train too; I even saw myself in a few of your shots!
Edit: will you be up there for Steam in the Snow this year?
It is likely one of our New Hampshire based members will attend.

501 should be restored to steam again from what I heard
L
Conway 501? I heard all about her too, nothing has been said about her ever since, probably slow and steady progress
No word what the plan for it is
Give it 10 years and I’ll get back to you.
501 has been moved to the roundhouse and is now in the beginning process of restoration hopefully in a few short years she will be out with 7470 soon.
There’s something about steam locomotives that seem alive
They breath, they eat, they drink, they talk. They may have been laborious, but they have an unmatched charm.

Conway Scenic runs 7470 primarily on specials, mostly in September in October.
