- It’s been six years since Normani’s solo debut, and she finally released her debut album dopamine. This single act has been marked by think pieces, album reviews, the cries of fans, and the ridicule of haters.
There are a lot of opinions, but one thing most people can agree upon is that the album took too long, but why did it? In this video I look at why, and how dopamine came to be what could’ve been done better, what the fans wanted and my own personal thoughts and opinions on Normani’s career.

Totally agree with you on the visuals part just for comparison Camila has dropped multiple music videos with her new album coming and I am constantly bombarded on Instagram by her shit regardless of how you feel about it it makes you think about her. Her team needs to work harder to promote her.
Omg yes, I’ve discovered so much of her music because she’s creating so much content and it’s literally everywhere: performances, music video, that promo with Lewis Hamilton? So good
the album would've been endlessly praised if it came out a few years ago. i think with the right promotion it could've been huge; but she might not want that. she could use social media more, people love her, she knows how much it would help. her label holds her back sure, but i think she's just happier being in her peace with her dedicated fans. the girls not stupid. waves with 6lack is still my favorite song of hers.
It’s so frustrating seeing a star not breaking into their full potential. When I finally listened to her album I was genuinely shocked on how good it was and then even more shocked at how little people were talking about it. A little promo goes a very long way and hopefully she figures out what she wants or by the grace of Neptune she gets outta that funky company 😭😭
Yeah, she has so much potential that everyone wants it to work out for her, hopefully we get to see more performances to accompany the album
I don’t understand how people are calling her a flop when both her songs charted pretty well I’m the R&B charts & which is the direction she’s trying to go… 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
It’s fan wars unfortunately. They also want her to chart higher on the billboard hot 100, regardless if the song is rnb or pop
You gave the example of Britney during her breakdown but during the tumultuous era of her personal life she actually delivered one of the most acclaimed albums of her career. ‘Blackout’ is often referred to as a Pop Bible.😅 It was an escape to the dance floor away from Britney’s hellish personal life. Unfortunately for Normani neither the album, nor the rollout for Dopamine imo, made enough of a statement to arrest the general public’s attention. It’s pretty pedestrian R&B/ pop music.
