Two-Stroke Tuesday | Jeremy McGrath on a Kawasaki KX500!

- Опубликовано: 5 фев 2025
- The annual Mammoth Mountain MX is approaching, and Jeremy McGrath just put the finishing touches on his most recent purchase - a Kawasaki KX500 that he found in Arizona on Craig's List - in time for the Open class on the mountain. MC invited us out to join him as he broke in his big-bore and put it through its paces for the first time. What modern improvements can you spot on the big green beast?

can't imagine what it's like being at a track and seeing such an awesome kx500 and then realising it's being ridden by Jeremy McGrath....omg
Right!
OMG!!
New pants required. Both sides spoiled.
Just got to your local track never know who might be there practicing
Yes it was good back then lads
That was awesome, thanks for not putting music in the video!
YES!!
That big bore 2 stroke sound is music to me. You could make an hour long album of just that 500 revving and I'd jam it in my truck
nyyght7 agreed!
oh there was music! 500cc of music! lol
Thanks for the great video, and a huge thanks for not ruining it with crappy background music while you're talking. I don't know why some people are compelled to add annoying background music throughout the video.
500 2-stroke, Jeremy McGrath, no music = great video👍👍
2 legend's =one badass machine.......#2 Stroke's Matter...
At nearly 50 years old, Jeremy can still throw around a 500 like a BMX bike.
Need some 1-800- collect stickers on that show pony!
The legend.. u aged well my dude, McGrath was my childhood superhero back in the early 90's
Sinisalo... nuff said.
Same for me. I only root for one and that's always been MC.
Two legends together!
made my day to see Jeremy again, looking older now but as nice as ever, total respect for this man, and great to see he still enjoys the thrill of mx.
Two Stroke for EVER.
We bringing back the helmet fins? I’m down with it.
I’m on eBay looking for one now!
It's a wifi antenna lol
Shoot, I forgot about those!
@@ThatWasPrettyFunny Where do you get a new one?
love the fins.
man there is nothing like a 2 stroke. the sound and smells of those bikes brings back mems of years of rideing with good friends in the midwest
that dude on that 125 is one of the few who can say he got by mcgrath on the outside! 🤘
He'll savour this upload tho..
while McGrath was cruising along...
Awesome footage, two legends. 2-Strokes forever
I raced a 91 KX500 at my local district in the open expert class when I was 23 years old, what a handful that bike was, it taught you throttle control, finesse and body position like no other. Love hearing the bass of that 500 compared to that 125
Talkin Bout Nawlins New York
1:53 One of the best sounds in the world!
Jeremy McGrath will always be my greatest memories of supercross
mnicrashSoren 100% brother!!!! Watching him race then playing crusty demons of dirt on VHS before going out riding for the weekend.. 🤘🏼
@@FrankA-973 lol remember when seth enlow crashed into his factory rides bro! Insane days I love the old free ride attitude all in all the time
The world of motocross needs to bring back 500cc 2 stroke class.....bad ass real motocross like back in the day of real men and machine.
🙄 stfu
I found the 4 stroke rider ^
Brett Brettson no you didn’t. Your romantic ideas about real men and machine are what got the eye roll.
@@nic2537 you're right, how dare someone gets nostalgic over something from their era! Bring on the transgenders and 250 4 strokes!
Brett Brettson nostalgia’s fine. So is his comment. So is mine. Yours too.
I love it! Awesome bike, awesome Rider. I love seeing McGrath still ripping! Gives me hope as I age......
Motocross tracks are finally starting to sound RIGHT AGAIN!!!.... The only thing missing is the smell of the 2 stroke mix !!
Nothing like the smell of a exhaust with Maxima Castor 927 premix in it...
*sigh*
Steve P Comment of the day!!! Right on brother. 🤙
@@graysinclair6572 I'm a little late with a response but Thanks Gray.!!
Benol caster oil,
Hell yeah
Showtime!!!
Makin us old dudes look cool
I like listening to his bike, plus McGrath can still ride. Cool to see that Show Time Smile.
Hello! Big Four, Hello!... Riders WANT two strokes, listen to them!.
Tell that to the epa!
A direct injected 2stroke runs cleaner than a 4stroke all day long. See Optimax outboards made by Mercury
It’s called KTM
Great to see him back on a bike and especially the kx500 ( I had one of those ) he’s a legend that needs to be on a bike ✊
Sound Enthusiast yep he seems to be riding a lot more this year and doing more races, nice to see him doing it for the enjoyment of riding and I’d love to see him race the vets race in the Uk later in the year, brill rider !
Jeremy McGrath...the best. Miss seeing him in races. Man those were the days. I remember pulling over to the side of the 215 freeway in sun city and watching him ride his track at his old house. Good times.
McGrath is an absolute legend. I love watching him ride. So much style & speed.
Dang, that thing sounded gnarly!
It's the way dirt bikes are supposed to sound! Love 2 strokes!
KX500 is something every rider should experience
Or any 500 in general
Tried to race open class on these in the mid 90s, two seasons of that and I got back on 250s. Arm pump was just never ending, couldn't hardly hold onto it.
WAY more power than any mere mortal can use ...unless your last name is McGrath or Larocco or Glover anyway.
Wow you're absolutely right it's like you're standing still and someone comes behind you and push you in the back and you're not prepared for it that's how it feels when you dump the clutch and turn the throttle on that kx500 OMG I felt it when I said it LOL
If anybody can bust that beast out Jeremy can!!
Probably the baddest machine I have ever set my ass on
Two beast! McGrath the beast and KX500 beast. Looking awesome on the track.
I remember as a kid living in norwich ny Jeremy and his crew would park their race hauler out behind the Howard Johnsons hotel for Unadilla weekend and we would go visit and they sit there and talk to us. Awesome memories hard to believe it was so long ago as I'm 36 now
I remember seeing McGrath racing at High Point on a factory Honda 250. He schooled everyone and seemed like he was going around the track a gear higher then everyone. He had that Cr 250 screeming.
He was the class of the field.Still looks fast as hell.
I was thinking the same thing when I saw him at the Cleveland Supercross. It was like his bike was on a rail and everyone else was driving on ice.
500 two strock, the bad ass bike !!! 👏👍🤙😁😉 !...
One of the smoothest riders ever McGrath
What can i say
A hero on top of a legend
Who doesn’t Love #2 The GOAT !!!! More videos!!! Genius on a dirt bike and a true “Racer” much respect!!
I love it! Vintage 100% even down to the filming, no go pro, no drones. I'm dying to restore a 2 stroke.
I have a 1995 KX500 and love it. Will never get rid of it. I ride it in the sand dunes. It's a beast for sure!
Through the years of the sport and many many excellent riders McGrath was and still is my favorite.
Watching Super-cross in the late 80s and early 90s with Jeff ward, Ricky Johnson, mike larocco on 500s at the L.A. Coliseum was epic 🙌🏼
500s in Supercross????????????????
And maybe a few beers😂👌
One of my all time favorite MX idols on my favorite bike👍
Wow how awesome is that to see Jeremy McGrath riding a kx 500 awesome stuff ⭐️😎🐱✌️
I love ALL bikes,.....but there's something about a well tuned 2 stroke that is pure magic!!
A two stroke legend riding a legendary two stroke...
I love it. If you pull up next to him, he automatically goes into race mode. Lol. He needs to smoke you. Great video. I loved my CR 500’s. An open class two stroke is a good thing. Remember the Carlsbad Grand Prx? I wheeled my 500 the entire length of the drag strip. I bet Jeramy done that. Great video. Cool redo on that bike!
Man I love a two stroke!
Please bring back 2 strokes!
The king still got it
“The King” 👑
Roost from the front wheel in the corners Excellent KX ground planted
Would love to see MC back on a 93’ cr250
THE ABSOLUTE FAVORITE BIKE OF MC!
Was dying to hear what he thought of it after the changes he made. I had one of those and the air cooled '83 version, was a tad over gunned in the bush but no-one ever caught me on the straights! Ah memories!
LEGEND, thanks for all the memories brother.
McGrath always appears to be such a great person! Badass rider with god only knows how many titles👍
My favorite rider of all time. Dude is the supercross king!!
Glad he's still riding! He's the best!
McGrath still looks fast. Champion forever. and the front Showa suspension looked plush
He got dusted by a 125 tho lol
That sound. Takes me back to my motocross days.
Seeing Mcgrath on anything but a Honda triggers me. The days of Bailey, Hanna and Mcgrath seem like yesterday to me.
@Talkin Bout Nawlins there you go !! I knew I was missing a name, on point man !!
Hanna n Bailey was the old days (good tho). McGrath introduced a new level of riding which continues today.
@Talkin Bout Nawlins when smith, and croft rode Honda... Hannah spanked them on a yamaha
@Talkin Bout Nawlins schools in bro....Hannah won the title first time out with team yamaha 1976...the year before he rode for team DG wich was 1975...also Mr know it all the team Honda you refer to was 1976 smith,croft,eierstedt,karmakers......get that..
@Talkin Bout Nawlins smith won two 125 ama national titles...74,75..the first two year's of that class
Always been a fan watched you race in upstate ny when i was a teen. Keep killing it
Love the shark fin helmet
I love seeing videos where guys obviously feel uncomfortable. Not a knock, its humanizing to see a man like McGrath who won so many championships and races still perform while obviously uncomfortable with his setup. It's awesome and a good boost for us amateurs in terms of confidence to see top pros do that. Way to rock that speed fin too... lmao
It's a great bike ! With arguably the best rider ever. Love see a Polysport plastics kit on it tho. Glad Jeremy is riding again.
Break in day, yeah right!!. Still on it kicking ass
Cool to see two classics at the same time 👍
i love the sound of 2 strokes...
Fantastic especially with the rider who owns and rides the bike old bike with modern twist great to see
Jeremy still one baaaad dude!!
July 2019 😎👍🏼
Great message and a great man here..
Hey jeremy, one of my heroes. Awesome vid.
Was my favorite bike to accelerate on. Used to race Harescrambles with and I was only 125 lbs then. 😆 the bike didn't even know I was on it.🏁
Great great video !!!!!!! Wow..McGrath doesn't look 56???...looks more like 40....!! ... greatest rider ever !!!!...thankyou for great content
That's because hes 47 dudes not almost 60 years old lol
@@streetslayinggto2505 oh ...hell thanks he sure didnt look like it.... my neighbor said that ...he raced with hannah....I thought Hannah passed away In 05.. either way I'm just glad to be out of grade school
@@davevowels7568 Yeaaah .. The Hurricane is still alive bro ...
😂😂
Wow really. Do you remember the Geico commercials with the caveman, he comes out from underneath the Rock. Lol with you and that you. Hey two strokes still rule
My hero growing up every time I sore you race I would get back out and lap times would come down haha
Coolest vid I'll watch today. Tame the beast !!!!
Great to watch ShowTime ride again
Anything with MC is gold with me.
Back in the day, Mc was my fave rider
I can only imagine how much of a beast that thing is
Real men ride 500s! My pops just finished rebuilding his 87 KX 500 and can't wait to spin lapa on that beasta 3 things that make this video badass
1. 500cc 2-stroke
2. MC
3. Helmet Fin #bringbackthehelmetfin
I love watching expert level riders on two stroke bikes.I wished someone would do a show of someone like McGrath racing a different bike every week 125's 250's open class of all brands that would be awsome.
Riding that monster on a track is amazing!
Yep right on last ride 1990 CR500 HE'LL YES!!
2 Stroke Still rules !!!
The King.
Que buenos recuerdos!!!
Felicitaciones 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Saludos de Argentina 🇦🇷
I remember back in the 90s only a small portion of riders wanted the 500's, sales were on the low side into the 2000s. I will say that the KX 500 hung in there until 2004. The CR 500 ended in 2001 and the mighty KTM 550 ended in 1994 if my memory serves me right. The open class two strokes were in a league all thier own, good times back then.
I'm pretty sure that's the 1st 500 I've ever seen start on the 1st kick. Sweet. I like 2 stroke sound so much more than a 4
1:57 DAM THOSE BOOTS ARE HOT 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 CANT TAKE THE 90S OUTTA MCGRATH STILL SPORTING THE HELMET FIN..✌✌
I love my KX500, such fun bikes.
I think I broke the sound barrier clicking on this video!!
Happy hes still riding.
JM...still got it.
It would have been nice to hear what Jeremy's thought's on the bike were when he was done riding it.
Sweeeeeeet! That's it I'm breaking out mine this week!
Still a beast on a bike great to see thanks
So awesome
Making 2 Strokes great again😎
Funny seeing Mac on a Kawa. I'm so used to him being on a red bike.
Bring back the 2 stroke 500’s ( at least some )
Lol there were only 3
BRC 500 conversion
Lovin the fin helmet, it'd be cool to see your lap times on the 500 compared to your 450
