It’s because some Salafi think following a madhhab is prohibited. And others, who are not Salafi think you must follow EVERY rule from ONLY one madhhab. Both are wrong.

@@Scott-EesaThis is totally absurd Shaikh Fawzan himself is Hanbali.Even Shaikh Albani also said that beginner student of knowledge should start with the book of madhab and built up knowledge by studying it along with hadith.Even Shaikh Albani said in a video that he follows usool of Imam Ahmed and in his book of Salat you will find reference of Al Masail Imam Ahmed.

what is your point? that madhabs do are not legitimate? because those 4 madhabs are more legititmate than any modern scholar could ever be, those 4 imams are the peak of scholars. The absolute best we will see, they arent called imam for no reason

Nisbat towards a Madhhab and Shaksi Taqleed of a Madhhab are not the same
Nisbatan Hanafi and Taklidan Hanafi are not the same
Nisbat towards a Madhhab can be due to numerous reasons. such as
1 His studies began with the books of that madhhab
2 That madhhab was more prevalent in his area
3 Due to government and political policies
4 His ijtihad coincides with the fatwa of that madhhab in most cases
5 Shakchi muqallids often refer to different sects of ulama to strengthen their party.
If these five reasons are related to a madhhab, we do not consider it a big problem if he gives more priority to the evidence than to the person or madhhab.
There is no problem if there is such a Nisbatan Madhhabi
But if a Deobandi is a Madhhabi like innovators sometimes he will be a mushrik and sometimes he will be a innovators
Check out Deobandi innovators Madhhab' sample below
    Mahmudul Hasan Deobandi said,
    Mahmudul Hasan Deobandi said,
    মাহমূদুল হাসান দেওবন্দী বলেন,
الحق والانصاف ان الترجيح للشافعي في هذه المسئلة ونحن مقلدون يجب علينا تقليد إمامنا أبي حنيفة
That is: 'Haq and Insaf is that Imam Shafi'i has priority in this issue. And we are mukallid. It is obligatory upon us to follow our Imam Abu Hanifa. (Taqreer Tirmidhi page no 36.)

The word mujtahid is a innovation
There is no word mujtahid anywhere in Quran and sahih hadith according to our research
There is the word ijtihad. But that is the case with Muslims, judges and rulers
It is valid to say the word mujtahid. If by the word mujtahid one means a different level which is above the scholars then it must be innovation
innovators want to imply that Mujtahid is a completely different thing and a scholar is a different thing
A few Salafis also gave in to this Satanism
A famous speaker of our country says that he is a scholar, but not a mujtahid.
May Allah protect everyone from such ignorance, Ameen
The only reason for speaking like this is to sustain Shakchi Taqleed
Making a distinction between scholars and Mujtahid Mutlaq is a horrible Bid'at. On this one line of Bid'at, Shakchi Taqleed survives. When this Bid'at ends, Madhhabi Shakchi Taqleed will also end.
    question
how many years before imam abu hanifa was a mujtahid mutlak and how many years before he was an alem?

there are two types of bidat
1 lafji bidat or verbal bidat
2 hakiki bidat or real bidat
if you distinct between mujtahide mutlak and alem , you will do real bidat
if you don't distinct ,then mujtahide mutlak will be the verbal bidat
verbal bidat is permitted unless it doesn't go against islami sariaa.

Ironically, He himself in his kitab at tawheed slanders the taqleed and the people to do taqleed of a specific madhab without checking the evidence. But here his statement completely contradicted. May be due to the pressure from saudi government to dilute the salafy mindset.

Amazing, from where he came up with this theory to follow one madhab ? Is it mentioned in Quran or Sunnah ? Was Muhammed Bin Abdulwahab RA following any madhab ? Why not to follow Quran and Sunnah ? 95% of things can be answered from Quran and even two books Saheeh Bukhari and Saheeh Muslim ! If we include all other hadith books and find saheeh hadiths all problems can be solved.
They are asking people to get water from one of the four Imams why not directly from the river of knowledge which is Quran and Sunnah ?

      MIAW was hanbali
I ask you, how will you follow the Quran and Sunnah without the madhabs and without the scholars? When you have a question, do you open the mus'haf and all books of hadith, grade the hadiths yourself, translate the Mus'haf yourself into your own langauge, and then make a ruling for yourself based on your findings?
Do you do all this yourself, or do you rely on what a scholar's fatwa in regarding these matters? Do you rely on a scholar's hadith gradings or do you grade them yourself? Do you translate the Quran yourself or do you rely on a scholar's translation of the Quran? So please answer me, how do you plan on following the Quran and Sunnah alone when you are not qualified to examine the evidences yourself?

And yes madhabs did exist during the time of the sahaba. Ibnul-Madini was of a great caliber in this particular field of knowledge. In ibnul-madinis book (علل الحديث ومعرفة الرجال والتاريخ) specifically from pages 140 to 145, he clearly explains that madhhabs existed among the Salaf, and there were even preferences for specific madhhabs.
