  • Episode 1. Improve your Internet!
    Here, we talk about how to maximize your internet, not just through WIFI but through a LAN cable. Lan Cables get rid of all the problems associated with WIFI, which is essentially, signal degradation caused by distance, concrete, microwave ovens, your neighbors routers, and unreliable hardware (WIFI boosters SUCK)
    A network switch is the extension cord of the networking world, and it allows you to wire up more products to your router, including an access point, which boosts stronger and more reliable WIFI than a WIFI booster. More on access points in the future.

    There is a difference between gigabit and non-gigabit switches.
    If you have a 100mbps up then go for gigabit.
    If you have less than 100mbps go for non-gigabit.
    And about frequencies, I do suggest pick channels 1,6, and 11.
    Because these frequency channels do not overlap each other.

    so its like an extension cord from your router? like example from my home:
    modem/router(ISP) > router (asus) > switch (if added) > then all of your useable techs that needed LAN?...

    • @hwsph
      @hwsph  3 года назад +1

      That is correct. Technically when you plugged your Asus router to your modems router, it achieved the job of a switch, which is it gives you more ports to the same source of internet. I'm sure your Asus router has more ports than your ISP router. You can further extend the ports to either your isp router or your Asus router by using the switch. Just think of the switch as extra ports for your router of choice. It doesn't do anything fancy other than that.
      What I did in my room as seen in the video might look different from what I described above but essentially my switch is attached to my ISP router. Not much different from what you propose above. It's just that I have a long ass cable of about maybe 150 meters built into the wall which can't be seen.

    • @lionelsioco123
      @lionelsioco123 3 года назад

      @@hwsph oooh okay okay, gets :) thanks thanks :D i thought at first last time that switch has something like "amplify" connections or something, so in the end its just an extension for more ports :)
      adn yes the asus router of mine has 2 more ports left since the 1st was connected to the ISP while the 2nd one was connected to a Tenda MW3 mesh, well even if its like having a treshold of 90mbps as i observe (even if i have 200mbps net, sucks i know), its just right for us since, there is no transfer data or heavy things needed, just facebook and youtube just right :'D cant blame the price XD

    I have a question for anyone who knows; My 2.4GHz band is much slower than my 5GHz one (2.4Ghz band wifi speed is around 30-40 Mbps while the other reaches up to 150 Mbps). I've read online that the speed shouldn't be that different. Currently have PLDT Fiber, and my question is if there is some way I can have it reach to the actual speed

    • @Iron59_
      @Iron59_ 2 года назад +1

      Actually it's just that 2.4GHz band offers coverage at a longer range; however, it transmits data at slower speeds. Instead, the 5GHz band gives less coverage but sends data at faster speeds. But it really depends on the internet connection you have, if you have 45mbps or lower the output between the two frequency should not be different if you have the router infront of you. The other instance you want 5ghz is because many wireless devices are using 2.4ghz such as wireless mouse, keyboard or Bluetooth itself. Well that's what I know. Feel free to correct me.

    • @YvanIke
      @YvanIke 2 года назад

      I know it's late, (you already probably already have figured it out), pldt provided routers are crap. Their 2.4ghz band wlan is capped at 50mbps thereabout. So if you're subscribed to a pldt plan that is more than 50mbps then you're in bad luck. You have three options, 1: downgrade you're internet plan to around just 50mbps so you'll be able utilized the best it could, 2: migrate all your devices to the 5ghz wlan, if you have some phone that are incapable of 5ghz then that's bad luck, 3rd and final is to find a wireless router that offers more than 50mbps on a 2.4ghz bandwith. That should fix it.

    Kuya Raf, how does the network switch differ from a repeater?

    • @hwsph
      @hwsph  3 года назад +5

      A network switch requires a LAN cable to be connected to the router. A repeater does not need a LAN cable. A switch does not broadcast wifi signals, instead it just gives more plugs to your router (like an extension cord is an extension of your electrical outlet. A repeater broadcasts wifi signal. A network switch gives unfiltered internet speed through the Lan cable with no interference. A repeater gets internet from the router wirelessly. So if you have a wall between your router and the repeater, it will only repeat the internet signal it can get through that wall. You could have a strong connection to your repeater but the actual download and upload speed is a lot slower. A computer plugged into the network switch which is plugged into the router, regardless of how many walls or how long the cable is, will give you the same net as though you were cabled next to the router.

    • @hwsph

      My bet is that it will either improve or it will remain the same speed at worst. Some people's routers are able to deliver very fast wifi to the point that there is little difference between wired and wireless but 90% of the time you should be able to notice a much faster speed if you plug in your TV straight to the streamwatch, provided the streamwatch is plugged straight into the router via Lan also (or is the streamwatch also the router?)

    Better if it was framed as "more reliable" internet connection than "faster". As it is good to recommend internet switches to connect your home devices, not all devices can use a wired connection unfortunately.
