Perfect sweeping Jeff; just staying on the back of the train and blocking without taking anyone out, then suddenly a 2 bike gap and leave everyone behind out in the wind 👌😁
I didn't understand that move on the last lap. If Jeff was done as sweeper, why not stay in the lane (i.e. in the "line") whilst slowing down (gently)? That would continue to effectively block people from getting onto the train in the last couple hundred meters. But maybe that's considered rude these days? (it would have been totally legit in the 1980s).
If you check some of the pro euro crit racers who went and raced in the US, they're shocked on the aggressiveness and hostilities in the peloton and that they were not allowed to ride side by side with other trains else you get elbowed and pushed to the gutters
It was really nice of you guys to let Tobin and the others join the Mike's Bikes group ride. Also, as a spectator that day I could not believe how destroyed the field was after that last lap! Just absolutely shelled
If Tobin was shaking head due to surprise, that would indicate he was asleep at the wheel. Of course the sweeper would drop back at this point! More likely Tobin just ran out of gas? More puzzling to me is Jeff pulling away from "the line."
Very strange thing happened to me today. I’m 65 and have raced road and mountain bikes for many years. I was doing the Chequamegon 40, part of the Lifetime Series. Reasons to long to explain, I ended up in the last starting gate of 1400 racers. Ok, we’re not winning just see how many people you can pass. The course is a famous XC ski race course called the Birkebeiner and is one 15-20% grade after another. Short but steep. People would coast down the hills get to the bottom and then grind up the next hill. I kept peddling down, carried momentum and would pass handfuls of people on every hill with no effort. I kept hearing a voice saying “look for easy places to pass. Smooth is fast. Carry your speed.” I passed over 700 people before the day was out. 😊
For a team on the front it's good that riders bunch up behind you as long as they don't try to filter in your team. Creates more work for other riders to fight for position.
Awesome video! Very educational to see U playing other roles than sprinter! Great job Jeff, no doubt U did a very importarnt job for. Mike’s bike team Victory 🎉
I tried LMNT and didn't like it, but the water was only slightly cool (mostly lukewarm). I gave it another try with very cold water and it was great. I was thinking today, "Which Norcal video had the discount code in it," and then I watched this. Thanks!
That was epic! I mean WOW. Love the camera work. I wish you guys could have a few more angles of the race to make it even more intense. But it was awesome as usual. Jeff, bring Tobin back for another one, great input and perspective. Jeff I'd love to connect with you in the future for a ride. I'll see if I can join Alviso with you in a month or so.
Starting at around 14:00, can you discuss how much fighting for wheels is allowed per any unwritten rules of the sport. You used the term “surfing the train” to describe other riders rinding along slide or actually inserting themselves into the lead out. Thanks in advance.
I DONT KNOW NOTGHIMG. WHEN YOU GET ON SOMENES WHEEL YOU HAVE TO TRUST THEM. STOP PEAKING AROUND THE CORNER. WHEN YOU PEAK YOU ACTUALLY COME OUT INTO THE WIND. THEY WILL SIGNAL WHEN THE CORNER IS COMING.THEY WILL STOP PEDALING AND DROP A LEG.
Okay, I think you must mean "peeking" - there's a lot of draft in the last half of the field, i.e. not much wind to get out into. It's actually not so great to always trust the rider in front of you; lack of visibility/situational awareness is part of what causes crashes to rapidly propagate through the entire field.
Great video. 9 rider teams for some random mostly amateur crit... racing is so broken in the US. More teammates than World Tour teams! Why not bring 20 riders, hell 50. Line it out from the drop. Muppets :)
It does seem like, with nine riders, why wouldn't you dominate the field? Why would anyone in the field bother to take a flyer? (though three guys did early on)

Everyone take a drink, EJ out in the wind. 10:24
lol it's my favorite pass time
And again to the wind EJ goes... Would love to see ej unleash that 1800 sprint in finish

Love these where you bring a competitor. Helps to see both sides of the strategy.

Tobin's face in the rear cam when Jeff get's dropped at 18:20 😂

15:38 holy cow that could’ve ended badly. Nice bike work! Floating through the field.

there is a guy wearing orange / purple team mike's bike jersy
that's the mikes bikes development team
I think that's why the other races say there are 13 team mike's bike riders. They are counting the development team probably.
@@NorCalCyclingAre development riders counted towards the fifteen man limit per team?

Right around 10 mins. There is a winspace on left with carbon wrap. Thing must ride like a noodle after a Crack there.
Actually, it rides great since it was repaired.. that’s what repairs do they fix things. They don’t turn them into pasta. That’s impossible
