In my headcanon, getting an enemy's weapon that turns out to be nerfed is a storytelling device. It tells the player that "the enemy that you just beat was badass not because of his weapon, but because he was badass".
That's what I think too, especially with Dante taking Vergil's sword, it gets needed because Dante's style is mixing a bunch of moves while Vergil honed his skills only on the sword.

You are right. You can also some times assume its because you dont have the full weapon (IE: Dr.freeze's weapon does no have enough power if its not plugged to his suit) But some games make it explicit its the weapon that made them so powerful.
Some times the character is a lot weaker and with less skill without the weapon, or some times the story explicitly says it
For darksouls i assume they just strong boys with a dull sword.

The Albert Wesker pistol from RE7 deserves an honorable mention. It destroys Evelyn in her boss fight, but when you use it in new games it's WEAK.
They explain it by the fact that the one you get in NG is a replica and uses regular ammo rather than whatever special anti bio weapon ammo the real gun is loaded with in the end boss fight
@@liamarcher7969 So a loophole to justify it being nerfed to oblivion. The mag size doesn't even make it worth it. If they're gonna give you the ultimate BOW killer but want balance, just give it a max of 10 bullets in the entire game. Don't nerf it AND give it a tiny mag size.
@@LargeMetallicFellow It’s pretty much an aid for completion of madhouse, as is the saw, neither are inherently overpowered and that’s the point. You don’t need to feel like you can blast through entire game in seconds on any mode after you’ve completed it once to unlock a gun. If there’s any unlockable to complain about it’s the running shoes, not the Albert replica. I didn’t feel like the combat in the game was particularly difficult at any point aside from in Ethan Must Die, which is completely unrelated. As far as the main game goes the Albert replica is strong enough, stick some enhanced handgun ammo in that and it’s a breeze.
You get the replica version of the gun but it still packs a punch the one you used in the final boss was the actual one
@@Master_Viccc Not an excuse. You still get a weak weapon that can't be upgraded, with a tiny mag size of 3 bullets. It's a waste of inventory.
The Giant Killer sword from Dark Souls 3. The sword's sole existence is to slay Giants, yet after the Yhorm boss fight, every other giants are immune to it.
A: it isn't technically a boss weapon B: it is also broken while others doesn't make sense why it works against one and not the others it does make sense it is relatively weak

They could have 1000 strength, so their weapon does shit tonnes of damage, maybe you have 100 strength, but you won because of your skill to move and timing...

This reminds me of how you can find a legendary weapon or family heirloom that has huge symbolism and everything, but then immediately find another drop from a random npc that's way more powerful
Or Diablo/WoW and the level scaling on items.
You could be level 70 and have some ultra rare legendary hunter's great axe with all the gems and enchantments. Then you get to level 72 and some boar drops an uncommon "broken dagger" that does better dps. 😭

Dante can't do anything with vergil yamato more than few moves because yamato need focus and right movement so you can strike that can't be happen with style and take everything easy

FF7 Dirge of Cerberus, from model gun to ultima weapon
Like the wooden sword in Ninja Gaiden. It's shit until you fully upgrade it into the Unlabored Flawlessness, then it becomes one of the strongest weapons in the game.
For Atorias' sword, there is actually two versions. The cursed version just does physical damage and the non cursed one does physical and magic damage. Just a fun factoid
And the fact in OG it was needed to be left handed.
It's apparent he doesn't play much Dark Souls. Some Boss weapons, especially in DS3, can be some of the most OP weapons in the game.

He's talking about the Abyss Greatsword, not the other two you make with SIf's Soul
and there is the dlc version the abyss greatsword that lets you do the flip in the first game
Vergil's experience with Yamato is much higher than Dante's, also Vergil's fighting style is more about speed, mobility, compared to Dante with his all-round mixed style using multiple weapons, including firearms.
About Batman, I didn't play the game, but knowing his own rules, he decreased the power of the blaster to avoid killing someone. If he froze a thug whole, he would need to save him shortly after.

@@Fede0779 actually technically they do. There's a whole list of moves you can check out in case you forgot how to do a certain move literally in the pause menu. It's been in every DMC game including the remake.

I have one tiny complaint for the Abyss sword in this video. If you use the weapon in your left hand in DS1 and 2 you can use Artorias' moveset. Also it's neither slow nor clunky.
Don't need to wait until DS3 to emulate artorias' moves. He was actually left handed, he uses his right against you because his left arm is broken. Equip his weapon to your left hand and you'll be able to use some of his moves even in DS1.
And this is considering he was greatly weakened by exposure to the Abyss, which drove him mad. So he's basically fighting you with numerous handicaps... And yet he still can destroy you
It's never been confirmed that he's left-handed. Only in DS2 you get access to his special moves with the weapon in the left hand. His armor and damaged shield suggest that he's right handed and broke his arm by trying to block Manus' attack

The reason yamato is nerfed for dante is because vergil has been using that sword since birth and can unlock its full potential. Its just the same thing that would happen if you gave vergil rebellion he wouldn't know how to effectively use it. Its like giving conan a katana. Lol

Lets say i visit Japan and watch a trained sword master use a katana . he can do all these crazy moves with it then he hands the sword to me and try the same thing and drop it or swing too hard and flip myself. Just because you have that bosses weapon (as in swords knives or staffs) doesn't mean youll pull off all the crazy stuff they can

literally every dark souls weapon he talked about you could see that he didnt have the proper stats to wield it lol. the game literally tells you "you do not have the required stats to wield the weapon effectively". once you do have the stats they kick ass, and you can upgrade them to +5 if you are able to get enough of the upgrade materials to make them crazy op
I sort of had this recently. There's a mission in Sunset Overdrive to get a sword. You track one down, but then need to make your own, which you do, and it''s awesome and totally wrecks face, but as soon as the mission ends it gets massively nerfed and only really works like any other melee weapon

Johnny silverhand’s gun was really op in his flashback missions. Then when you get the weapon in game it’s literally garbage, only being good for its penetration.

The Majestic Greatsword was one of the best weapons in Dark Souls 2. You equip it left handed for access to the special moves, the right handed moveset is still a good moveset, it has great damage scaling, and it had a powerstance when you dual-wielded them. It was one of the most commonly seen weapons in the fight clubs at the bridge
Ikr, and the powerstanced L2 is one of the coolest moves ever
I'll always remember the disappointment I felt when I got Assassin's Creed Unity's shiny golden lightning sword, only for it to be nerfed into oblivion and just be a regular sword.
This is why Elise is the worst person. She broke my sword
"Slightly intimidating snowball" made me laugh out loud.
This also applies to really, really really fast enemy cars that ram you at lightspeed during a chase but when you hijack one it's a granny scooter.

Been playing Beserk: Band of the Hawk recently, when you fight Zodd he's the beast form for the whole boss fight, when you unlock hiim you can only be that form for like 10 seconds...15 max maybe.
When a weapon isn't that special it means the talent of the wielder is the real thing to behold.
Except that we killed them and took their stuff. Therefore, we should be an even better thing to behold.
Bruh, vergil is the only exception to the meme when u unlock the final boss as a playable character, same goes for his weapons

For some of these, arguably, its not the weapon that gets nerfed, but more so you're character is unable to unlock its full potential immediately after picking it up.
Well, the weakness of the Yamato when Dante uses it makes sense, Dante isn't that familiarized with the weapon and Vergil's fighting style, Vergil on the other hand uses it as his main weapon, the potential of the sword is unleshed with mastery.
And then there's Nero, who uses it with his demon arm
to me the most disappointing dark souls boss weapon is the dancer's sword. very very bad scaling on those beasts
Using it was like being one of those ripoff beyblades that light up and stuff but weigh a fraction of what a real beyblade does, so it just gets yeeted out the arena after bouncing off the real deal

Let’s be honest the Yamato is OP when Vergil use it, because it is Vergil’s sword.
That and Vergil had years to practice and hone his skills, same for Dante with Rebellion. It’s actually an testament to Dante’s skill and experience that he was able to use a degree of Yamato’s power effectively in short time without any prior experience of actually using it. As someone once put it “I do not fear the man that practices thousand kicks, I fear the man that practiced a kick a thousand times”. I always thought it was why Vergil is so OP with the Yamato, but Dante was able to beat him due to having variety of experience using different weapons and skill sets that Vergil wasn’t quite experienced in.

In a way this applies to most games in general, not just the boss weapons. The more you level up, the stronger the enemies and bosses get too. Thus effectively making your power increase moot.
In dark Souls 2, to properly experience Artorias's Weapon, you need to wield it in your left hand. You can also take it a step further and pair it with another weapon in power stance to get a neat looking strong attack. On the downside, the stats you need for all that are crazy and it will drain your stamina in the blink of an eye.
not only that but in dark souls 1 it was one of the contenders for best weapon in the game, it was never a bad boss weapon

Boss Vergil has one weapon.

The most obvious one in recent times is Serpent Hunter from Elden Ring. During the Rykard fight you get this amazing, boss-specific spear that enables you to hit the boss' giant form while still avoiding the lava with these powerful sweeping wind beams, but outside of the boss arena, it's just a regular spear. It's still really useful in speedruns and a lot of people like it cause it has amazing strength scaling, but to say I was disappointed that you couldn't harness just a little bit of that power was an understatement. Like it even has a specific ash of war that does nothing, to troll you
I don't think that really fits the ticket for this. First off it's a weapon specifically for a boss, not a weapon used by the boss. Beyond that, it isn't just popular for its scaling, but because of its total lack of stat requirements making it usable with any build, from level 1 to the most otherwise magic slanted character. It's one of the best weapons you can use for plain 'ol damage that isn't even that heavily gated, making it possible to get much earlier than many other weapons that would outdo it majorly in a more specialized build.
It actually has the honor of being the most usable version of this style of gimmick weapon too. Comparatively, the Storm Ruler is absolutely useless outside of its respective fights in Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 3.
@@LuckyTrouble777 I wouldn't say completely useless in demon souls because it has massive knockback where you can troll pretty hard with ledges.
You didn't mention that, in Dead Rising, the guys in the jeep respawn as soon as you leave the area. They're a constant, cheap, nuisance until the military comes.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey: Actually you don't have to have the Atlantis dlc to unlock the staff of Hermes T. You unlock after the mission when you get it from him.
The Abyss Greatsword has had the spin move and flip move in all three games most people miss them in DS2 since they dont realize you have to put it in the left hand to use them and access its full damage, which is a nod to Artorius being left handed.
I don’t think he’s left handed, it’s just that his right arm is fucked to high heaven. Thing is literally useless, so of course he uses his left.

Can't speak for the story or the gameplay of Unity but I did play Syndicate and it looked and felt like a less ambitious version of its predecessor. Unity had some really clean looking climbing, fighting, and assassination animations.
Left handed the artorias’ sword in ds2 gives you new movesets
Could we talk about Aldrich’s bow that could fire a storm of arrows in the boss fight. But when you transmute his soul you get a bow that makes your arrows do magic damage
I'm seeing a lot of Soulsbourne weapons in the comments section, so I'll include my own. The Firelink Greatsword, from Dark Souls III. During the entire fight against Soul of Cinder, he switches the kind of weapon he uses from straight sword to curved sword to a lance and even a catalyst - then in his second phase he transforms it into an imitation of Gwyn's sword, and every time it switches his moveset changes.
Instead of the Firelink Greatsword we get from soul transfusion being able to change forms like the boss's did, we instead have get a greatsword with an unremarkable moveset and a similarly forgettable weapon art: which is just a narrow wave of fire with a knockback effect.

Similar story with Gwyn's own sword from DS1, The Greatlord Greatsword. Was it bad? Absolutely not- in fact, it was amidst the better boss weapon in DS1- but it's still just a shadow compared to the blazing one wielded by Gwyn's husk.
Moonlight blade, old hunters dlc, bloodborne.
U can die in one hit during the fight. And when you get the weapon, you discover it's trash if you don't get a bunch of arcane levels.

6:15 in ds2 you also get all those moves if you hold it in your LEFT hand. also if you powerstance the "majestic greatsword" you even get some unique moves out of it, which no other GS offers when powerstanced.

my headcanon for the dark slayer style in dmc4 has always been that dante simply isn't familiar enough with how to wield Yamato and do proper judgement cuts and so on. only vergil really can
Supposedly, that is the canon reason why Dante using it is underwhelming in dmc4
@@TheDarkAngel969 Also Dante uses his weapons as toys, whereas Vergil uses them as weapons. So naturally Vergil would be deadlier.
I'd include the Minigun and Flamethrower from Saints Row 3. Granted they're not boss fights, the Brutes are more minibosses, but pick one up and you slow to a crawl walking around, plus you can't use it as a melee weapon and hit people with it like Brutes can. In game the explanation is that you're simply not strong enough- the Brutes are like 8 feet tall and solid muscle.

when it comes to swords, specially Japanese samurais, ancient warriors, and legends, the power actually comes from the wielder who channels his energy to his weapon, that's why only virgil can do those unique badass combos with yamato.

Killing the boss makes you inherantly stronger than them.

A lot of these make sense from a lore standpoint because you could excuse the nerfed weapons by thinking of it as the boss had to train to use the weapon to it's full potential.

It's been awhile since I played it, but as I recall, in Witcher 3 you were constantly picking up gear you were level-locked out of, and by the time time you did unlock it, basically any Blue level gear was better. I remember using Aerondight on ng+ that was instantly outclassed by virtue of the way ng+ works, but had to keep using it out of spite due to how much I spent upgrading it previously.

At least for dark souls 2, afair, to get his original moveset(not most of it, but still) you have to offhand this sword(put it into left hand, not right) also you can unlock more moves if you dual wield 2 this swords.
To be fair on the Freeze Blast from the Arkham games, it's not really a combat weapon in the sense that it does damage. It was designed to be a puzzle tool. In example, you're exploring Gotham, looking for Riddler nonsense, and you see a glowing green goon in a crowd. Use freeze blast on him, take out the rest of the crowd while he's frozen, then interrogate him without running the risk of knocking him unconscious. Additionally, let's say you're in a predator sequence and there's an armored goon or a mini gunner or some other nasty goon that you wanna lock down for a little bit, freeze him, take out his buddies, then deal with the problem.
The most dangerous weapon is the one wielding it.

@@Ali-Sensei In God of a war 2, when Zeus used the Blade of Olympus, he was able to defeat all the Titans in a single blow. When he used it against Kratos’ army, he made a single swipijng gesture that wiped them ALL out.
So in keeping the theme of the video, the blade of Olympus IS SUPER nerfed when Kratos got it.

Silent Hill 2 is everywhere but here. The weapon I have been most disappointed after getting is Pyramid's head's giant knife. Of course, it should have been obvious that James would be slowed to a crawl when equipped with it. Useless for general use, though it can one-hit Eddie.

I just came up with a reason for this.
The swords and stuff get dull and weak when you hit them, they don’t deal enough damage
a more recent case of this: The Hand of Melania, which turns the red mist that was previously your Tarnished into its own red mist, but once unlocked feels very unworth the hours of dying you just did
The final boss’s sword from castle crashers is a perfect example of this imo. You fight the boss, he uses the sword for a weird spinning attack, he shoots fireballs with the sword, everything. He even shapeshifts into a giant spider looking thing, but when you get it? Sure, it has very good damage and a chance to set enemies on fire, but it doesn’t have anything really special about it. I get that no weapon in the game really has any of those kinds of abilities or whatever, but you would’ve thought that the reward for beating the final boss of the game would be somewhat unique

In dark souls 2 you’re supposed to use the Artorias greatsword in your LEFT hand, as the description of the weapon says, then you’ll see the fancy moves.
In dark souls 2 I’m pretty sure the weapon is actually pretty fast and fluid. You just need the correct stats and to put it in your left hand, although I may be mistaking it for a different sword!

I mean...Compared to artorias, the chosen undead isn't a well renowned knight with years of experience when welding the behemoth that is the abyss great sword. So it makes sense that it's slower and weaker when you use it. The sword isn't what's special/powerful...It was the user, Artorias himself.
yes like many weapons in the series is the user skill not just the weapon, artorias was a hell of a fighter even using his sword in the hand he was not accustomed was a beast.

The yamato for Dante is pretty good, you just gotta know when to use it, played dmc4 for a while and I gotta say that the Yamato is honestly a pretty fun combo maker
The Dark Dragon Blade from Ninja Gaiden/Sigma. When the final boss uses the sword, it's stupidly powerful, able to summon a large dragon to nuke Ryu. When Ryu gets it (Must collect all 50 Gold Scarabs on HARD MODE and above), the sword is still powerful (one of the strongest in the game next to fully leveled wooden sword at low health) but it has a very small move set, Although its ultimate technique can decimate almost all small enemies.

My problem with DMC in general is seeing how fast and powerful Dante is in cut scenes, but being nerfed as soon as you take control. Hopefully one day we get a DMC game where we can run up walls and move at super speed. It would require a pretty big overhaul to the mechanics and level design DMC is known for though.
In the game’s defense, if Dante’s nerfed it just means you suck.
The thing about DMC is you can literally do *everything* shown in the cutscenes. Nero riding one of the Scarecrows with Red Queen? That’s a move you can perform.
As other players on RUclips have shown, Dante *can* be wielded to the same potential as his cutscene counterpart.
You (and I don’t worry) just suck because his play style is hard to get a hold of. In my case I end up handicapping myself to one specific melee and one specific gun

Now NERO? Oh the moment I played him I fell in love! His play style makes it so easy to rack up style points!
