    50+ years ago when I was a youngster everybody had to buy their Levis 1” bigger in the waist, and you had to have your mother hem to the right length. Also, after the first wash they were so stiff they would stand up on their own.

  • @stephdustin-ty4xd
    @stephdustin-ty4xd 5 месяцев назад +2

    That is incorrect actually. You are suppose to be in the jeans while sitting in the tub so the jeans know where to expand and then u keep them on as they are drying until they are dry so the denim shrinks up around your own unique body.
    I don't doubt that your way altered the fit of them somewhat but the intention is to shrink to your specific body features for a better overall fit.

    I normally get 32x34 in 505s, and have a little extra length (32L is a little short for me). I bought 33x34 in STF and did the hot water and high heat dryer several times, resulting in a perfect fit. I’m very happy with my results. They are my favorite jeans out of 15 pairs.

    Recently I was wearing 32x32 standard 501's, and I just bought STF in slightly bigger size as advised - 33x34. I don't have tube but I have plastic box which I could fill with water, what you guys recommend - putting them in that box or washing them (using short program)? Or maybe also drying in automatic clothes dryer?

    Is the color after the soak that different ? I love that shiny almost rough and textured look pre soak

    • @ampersand532
      @ampersand532  2 года назад +1

      No the colour/texture is basically the same it's just the contrast against the snow that makes it look so different. Kinda sucks, but hey I can't control the weather! :)

    • @user-oj8zo3cr4b
      @user-oj8zo3cr4b 2 года назад

      Yea they stay like that for a while i know what u mean when u get them they actually give off a really bright white underneath the blue which is really dark and almost grayish, but the white really sets them apart from the “original” 501s the shrink to fits also are wayy better feeling they feel like jeans not an old t shirt. I don’t wear anything other than 501stf especially with the prices of these other ridiculous unsanforized denim brands literally selling it like it’s a Toyota Corolla, I will never believe something that was always cheap is all of a sudden 10 times as expensive because it’s old now? Like seriously these people selling quality jeans for 600$ are scam artists, even if it was the best made denim in existence it isn’t that labor intensive we’ve had the machinery to make it the old way for centuries, not to mention nobody has made modern machinery that can do it.

    • @frankh.2669
      @frankh.2669 Год назад

      Don't like to disagree, but I find the colour and texture both change quite a bit via the contact with water. Dry denim in loomstate (the shrink to fit kind) has a distinctive look and feel that is lost forever when the fabric has been in contact with water.

      I live in the tropics, here they shrink by themselves whether I wash them in hot or cold water. I had a pair that kind of smelled so I washed it 3-4 times not before soaking it in vinegar first. By the time the smell was gone, it had shrunk so much I could not wear it anymore.

    • @drwisdom1

      @@snapcult464 That is not true. I have been wearing Levi's 501s since 1969. I have at least 100 pairs of vintage 501s. The only time I don't wear 501s is when I dress up.
      Turns out it is the dryer that gives jeans their great fade. While a little of the fade is due to wearing, the majority of the fade is caused from mild abrasion in the dryer. The only way to get a great fade is to start with dark denim, wear them, and clean them in the washer and dryer. Even Levi's can't duplicate that beauty with all their fake fades and phony whiskers.
      Vintage Levi's were made from heavy quality cotton and could handle unlimited washing. Today Levi's uses paper thin cotton so you do have to worry about hurting them - but it isn't from washing. Today's Levi's are for fashion, you can no longer use them for working where they won't hold up.
      There is a lot of jeans disinformation on RUclips. Some people say that after we have been wearing jeans for over a hundred years, that we have all along been doing it the wrong way. They say we are supposed to never wash our jeans and wear them stiff, dirty, and stinky.

      @@drwisdom1 Been wearing them since the 70’s, selling them since the 80’s, and working for Levi’s for 13 years. From my personal experience machine washing and tumble drying denim leads to more unnecessary abrasions and a faster break down of the material. Everyone has their methods.

    • @snapcult464
      @snapcult464 2 года назад +2

      @@ampersand532 True. Over time they will keep stretching and shrinking as you wear and wash them. If they get baggy in the seat especially you can give them a warm wash or soak and a hot dryer. Be warned you’ll also lose some length.
