Thank you for that. I’m trying to focus on quality over quantity. I’m comfortable in the garage, but still have a lot learn about editing.

I think it would be MUCH quieter if you reworked the engine location by flipping it around and lowering it a solid foot or foot-and-a-half to make it a rear engine that fits neatly in the trunk. Then you could have storage where the engine currently is, or even make space to allow you to recline the seats a little.

Here’s an idea from the uk, I’ve a bike powered mg midget and I managed to used most of the stock air box , but using dynomat directly on the air box then a layer of scrim foam and dynomat directly onto the foam as well made the most difference to noise. No ear plugs for me 👍

Great to hear from you again. To my elderly ears, the new airbox appeared to take your noise level away from irritating to really cool.

I actually dealt with this on my scooter. What worked best is a box with baffles, very similar to a chambered muffler. Also some kind of sound absorbing material on the inside walls is useful - some stick on foam works well, just have to be secured so it doesn't get sucked in.
Also there will be noise just purely coming out of the engine, but I don't see how to supress that unless you make some enclosed compartment, or make a hardtop.
Totally relate to quiet = fast. I'm probably the only other person in the world who drives slower the louder it is. It is weird, most people have it the other way around, also the later the hour and quieter neighbourhood, the fester they drive.

nice build thus far! i just came in on a random vid, new sub here for sure!
a suggestion for the noise , try a piece of alum to make a shield/ aka false fire wall , line it with the fire proofing dynamat . that can mount to the header downtubes. less heat and noise. my 914 /fireblade was as yours is now. that solved my problem .

Keep in mind that your head is as close (probably closer actually) to the engine as it would be on the motorcycle and people wear helmets riding those bikes which insulates them from a lot of the noise. So I think it being too loud for you is just gonna be the nature of the beast with this car. There are thousands of explosions happening inches from your ears after all.
Just watched this series from start to finish and you do brilliant work. Especially considering you’re just shooting from the hip without much planning or CAD or anything. Criminally underrated channel but you have a new sub in me.

Great project, seems to me the original Fiat is a bit lower though. But it is always going to be much noisier as you have much more RPM (bangs per minute).
It will also become more quiet if you make "trunk" for it (plenty space in the rear).

Hey is there by any chance that you will be building another motorcycle engine swapped car in the future. Would you like to try and beat Gordon Murrys Rocket cars weight record of 380 kg using a tube steel chassis exactly like the rocket car but with a KTM 1390 or 1290 (or a motus 1650 engine u could install an A/C ) engine as it has a semi dry sump engine. With a body from a lotus 49.
And as a suggestion are you open to having a side to side dash mounted shifter (i.e left upshift to right down shift ) with the clutch mounted on the shifter lever to increase shift speed and clutch relase smoothness.

May be some type of shooting ear muffs they have a thin profile, and noise canceling. From St.Paul,Minnesota.

I never considered how loud it would be but needing earplugs makes sense. Motorcycle helmets definitely do a good job of dampening sound. Also, what did you end up doing with the miata diff you built for the fiat? If you still have it I'd be interested in buying it to save me some fabrication time

Can't you pad the box on the outside with some neoprene or something similar noise reducing? Will also hide the not super nice looking alu welds. Plus I think matte black and red goes well together (think Abarth..).

Holy cow, never ever grind aluminum on a bench grinder! Aluminum, brass, copper and other soft metals will clog the stone, when it gets hot, it expands, cracking the wheel while it's spinning at 9000 rpm! For aluminum, get a belt grinder or quality hand files.

Hey, i was wondering what the gas mileage your fiat is compared to what it would have been stock

    • @Jerod_Helt
      @Jerod_Helt  11 месяцев назад +1

I haven’t calculated the MPG but due to the gear reduction the speedometer is set to around 45% of what it was. So basically the engine revolves twice as many times per mile as it did when it was a bike. So I would guess it gets about half the mpg as it did as a bike.

The sound is the whole point of using an engine like this,,,,If you didn't want a loud sounding engine ,,Why didn't you use a Honda dueval 1200 ,,or a Honda gold wing ,,You would have got around the same HP but much more torque,,And half as noisy,,I mean it's a gsxr ,,you must have known it was going to be very noisy,,
