Fun little cars back in the day, 850cc 4 speed and drove like a skateboard on rails ... as long as you kept under 50 to avoid the understeer. I wish I'd had the tools and technology you have now back then. That's an outstanding project you made.
Congratulations Jared on another finished project. I bet it is a blast to drive. I envy your fabrication skills! You are outstanding! Thanks for all the videos! Please keep them coming.
I’ve said it before: What a transformation, just amazing! And now you can sit down and enjoy that lovely gixxer engine in relative comfort without having to resort to a chiropractor after every trip (as we others have to, riding two wheelers after reaching a certain age😅). And then that lovely soundtrack going up the hill, a right firecracker of a motor😎. Full score on this one!
just watching in amazement...this ultra-master craftsman!....the modifications and self built parts for this 850 spyder....much on eye balling....no tape measurer...just insane dude!
Well edited compilation of an imaginative marriage. Big respect for engineering and fab skills. Not loving the 21st century headlights, or the huge wart on the chin, but you gotta love the roar this little car makes!
Genius at work! If I were you, I would get down on my knees every morning and thank GOD for the talent HE has blessed you with. I cannot think of another sports car (new, classic or antique) that I would rather have than what you have made with your own two hands. Thanks for taking the time to make the video of your fantastic creation! And I always enjoy little Walter's appearances, man I miss my dog!
I really liked this project. Now, as a motorcycle rider, the kind that has an attitude, I would love to see a build like this, but with a real motorcycle motor: a two-cylinder motor. Of any kind, as long as it is a V or a boxer. LOL. Good stuff man, and nice that your father an d brother were part of it!
Congratulations!! Very good work and videos! This version of the Fiat 850 Spider is from Bertone, the most common in the world. Here, in Argentina, we had the Pinninfarina version, rarer for everyone and more common for us. There are still many hanging around. My first car was a 1974 Fiat 600, 797cc engine, and everything I learned about mechanics and engineering over the years I put into that car, for 15 years. I modified a lot of suspensions, brakes and mechanics, but I kept the "original" engine in the rear. But when it comes to suspensions I see that we did VERY similar things. I used a Fiat 133 (903cc) engine stroked up to 987cc, cylinder heads made by me and individual intakes. Vacuumed it reached approximately 75hp, and I swear it was SO much fun! Then I used Turbo, 5-speed gearbox, etc., but I started to have another problem: aerodynamics. I had to redo the nose of the car, since, like you, I channeled the air from the radiator, now front, under the car... and above 200kmh you really realize that you are doing things wrong! I think this car you built is for playing on a weekend, having fun on twisty roads, very different from what I intended. I'm not trying to teach you anything, I see you know what you're doing! It's simply to tell other people who, perhaps, have this going through their minds. Best regards from the Southern Lands!!
Thanks brother! I lost many of the photographs of that car during my divorce. Let's keep in mind that I bought that car 2 months after turning 17 (the legal age to drive in Argentina), and I started modifying it when I was 19. I'm 45, so it's been a long time! I still miss that car...it was brutally fun! After many cars, including a BMW 323i e21 and a Ford Granada 2.8L coupe (one of my favorites!), I currently have a modified with Turbo 1967 Rambler Ambassador and I am building a Ford Fairlane (Torino for the North American market) that was a hearse bodywork, with a Y-Block 292 “Phase 2” engine (Argentine modification on cylinder heads) which I am modifying. But that Fiat 600 was a crazy thing!! At that time, I was 25 years old, the Buenos Aires-La Plata Highway had just been completed, which is where I live, and I always went out to speed it up there. We are talking about a Fiat at more than 200kmh!! I had a SACS modified GSXR 750, and not even in that soulless thing did I feel so scared!!
I had to sell my '73 850 spider - but I always thought it would be a good candidate for electrification using the original suspension and transmission. Some of the Abarth variants had over 200hp from a 2L engine, so I assume the transmissions could handle the power. Another option might have been a Honda 2.0L B-series using the original setup.
This is an amazing and inspiring project, and I love the tight editing of your videos. My only complaint is that I really wish you'd wear kneepads if you're gonna kneel on a cement shop floor!
I also have a motorcycle engine in my Fiat. Mine's an X1/9 with a 1300cc VMax engine. Sure it's only 100hp, but that's a lot more than the 65hp it came with stock lol.
Man what a ride, the car, and the build series. Hey you should team up with Super fast Matt and build something like like that. That would be interesting to follow.
I like the wheels size maybe a little bit bigger though thicker like the size Magnus uses for his Porsches I think he uses the perfect with and height great job man I had this idea years ago I'm glad to see everybody's doing it sad that I'm not LOL didn't watch the whole video how did you do the trans? I seen a video of a while ago where the guy flipped the transmission around and it made it like a normal car I mean the shift pattern which was really cool great job man maybe some turbos the bigger fuel injectors? Or throttle bodies whatever the hell is on that motor that would be a cool second phase.
Not sure what the actual MPG is but the Speedometer was re calibrated to about 50% of what it originally read. So the engine is basically turning over twice as many times per mile as it did as a bike.
From powering 203kg around, to trying to push at least 700kg down a Highway and constantly under load at high RPM, I reckon he'll be swapping that engine out in approx.......sooner than later.
Are you a mechanic or is this more of a hobby? Curious how you learned these skills. I’d love to do something like this some day, but getting all that steering geometry right - to name one thing! - is pretty intimidating.
This is just a hobby, but I’ve been taking things apart my whole life to see how they work. I had to do a lot of research to figure out the steering geometry
I'm thinking about throwing my 2018 zx10r (173 HP +/-) built engine into something small. I'm having issues deciding on and finding a project car. I want as light as I can get. Do you think all of the electronic systems with the new bike would make things much more difficult?
Oh that lovely sound!
When are you gonna take it for a rip @SuperFastMatt ?
Kinda like watching another teams pit crew.

Walter! Thanks for the new video. Hope to see more soon!
This is a fantastic build, the fact that it doesnt have more views is criminal
Loved watching the full series, and this summary was so much fun, too!
Wow, he made this look entirely too easy. Awesome build!! I hope to do my own some day when I become proficient at TIG
A real master. Bravo and much respect, the real challenge now is don't get yourself killed - 12K rpm: are you mad!
Your design capabilities are amazing!! I love how this came out
I like this level of finish and looks well thought out and put together. High five🖐
THIS! I dream of putting these engines in so many (small, light) cars .... Do Another one!

@@Jerod_Helt You deserve every bit of it! Please give Walter a hug for me!
Great project. I’m doing a reverse box in my car now and appreciate your outlook on it.
The Quaife differential is awesome! It was also the most expensive part of the build, it cost more than the car and more than the bike.
thats some project! I still prefer my motorcycle engines in a motorcycle but props to you.

Great job engineering and fabricating that build!

No Fiat ever ran that good 😊
How do you only have 35k subscribers?!
a great build!
Awesome build! Do you ever wish you had used the cush-drive from the bike? When shifting from N to 1 while stationary, does it "kick" at all?
Not sure what the crush-drive is. But yes it kicks when putting it into 1st.
impressive!
Love the build and have been following along since the beginning. Have you ever been hassled about it's noise?
I got a speeding ticket in it, the cop mentioned over and over again how loud it is. I wear earplugs when I drive it because it’s so loud.
Love it. You’re absolutely insane but I love it lol 😅.
WOW !!! Amazing work ! How is it on gas milage now that it's pushing a heavier chassis?
Not sure what the actual MPG is but the Speedometer was re calibrated to about 50% of what it originally read. So the engine is basically turning over twice as many times per mile as it did as a bike.
I’m not sure about a motorbike engine, but I’d definitely look at a Volkswagen or Porsche flat four in a Fiat.

From powering 203kg around, to trying to push at least 700kg down a Highway and constantly under load at high RPM, I reckon he'll be swapping that engine out in approx.......sooner than later.
Yeah, with the current gear ratio every mile I put on the car is basically two miles for the engine.
Good Job

If you have the full bike it shouldn’t be too big of an issue, just move everything over to the car. That’s what I did.
Wow, just wow! This is f**ckin´blasphemy, but fantastic all the same 😁
Easy sub 👍
Yep , cool but what about the Torque ???
That’s always a big issue for a bike powered car. That’s why you need to keep the car light. Also gear reduction is very important. 👍
I bet the tacho needle washes away the day's worries with every sweep across the range
