    Is your lead wrist bowed, flat, or cupped at the top??

    90s instruction got me that strong/cupped grip, handsy at impact, hip sway instead of rotate, inconsistent for 30yrs. Compared to 1yr of weaker grip, flat-slightly bowed wrist, squared face at impact, zero hand-flippidy-doo-daa and rotating with lower body leading the chest that leads the arms --- massive improvement in solid ball striking at a level of consistency I never could have imagined.

    Finally it makes sense. I’ve always had a strong grip and bowing it like DJ or Collin just never worked or made sense to me. It didn’t feel comfortable and would also make the face way shut.

    I really like how you dissected the right hand grip and its importance in the matchup. I think that is something that is often overlooked, generally all the fuzz would be about your left hand being bowed or cupped.
    Essentially the left hand wrist position is a product of what the right hand is doing. Good stuff as always!

    In town for my lessons with Milo. Can’t wait to see what he has for me. All these videos are extremely well done. The team does a great job explaining the lessons in easy and for me understandable language and examples.
    He’s definitely gonna have his hands full.

    Love this discussion. Lots of other channels say “do this” without telling you fully why or what the consequences of having differing grips will have on the shot. Learned a lot! It definitely explains why my stronger grip doesn’t love a lot of left wrist bend. A little goes a long way.

    Great video. Most instructors want me to weaken my grip to eliminate my hook miss so I try to but I can't seem to time the correct amount of bow to my wrist so instead of missing left I miss right. Most instruction is geared towards releasing the club with a neutral or weakish grip and I think I've been caught in between patterns. I don't get nearly as much wrist pain with a stronger lead hand grip so any release content on how to play with a stronger grip especially as it relates to the short game would be greatly appreciated.

      We generally prefer the stronger grip and learning to match it with a good pivot and a release with very little twist. We’d love to coach you through the process. Great discussion on shallowing.
    bowing can mean many things to different golfers.
    I cant bow, but I think in terms of more pronation of my lead hand/wrist,and notice less fade/slices when I put in more pronation.
    thanks John

    Never heard a distinction between wrist action at top of swing (determined by the trail wrist) and at impact (by the left wrist)! For years, I tried to get into a Hogan-like impact position of the lead hand (bowed) and it never worked--I would even get a 'stinger' type feel in my lead arm at impact! Never understood it till now--thanks for clearing that up!

    I’m confused. There seems to be two ways of bowing. (1) Extending the trail wrist which pulls the lead wrist in the same direction, and (2) by twisting the handle downwards i.e the motorcycle move, to bow the wrist. Which one is correct?

  • @2old2game5

    I’m playing better from these lessons but when I try that shallowing motion with my irons I hit a right shank and I go left so it’s a very strange problem for me to diagnose. I’m sure it’s a hozzle rocket, but it just works better for me to feel I keep a very solid wrist structure (no shallow move) through impact. Now I struggle with longer clubs 6 on up going left way to much and driver is just a mystery right now. Goes way to high on driver and I still can get 270-280 on it but the flight is so high I’m sure I’m losing 15-20 yards carry and no roll. The shallowing motion helps sometimes but the long clubs are just a struggle. I’ll keep combing through these vids though. Thank you guys for all your knowledge.

    Hey Milo I have a question:
    I know that shallowing and bowing the wrist is the right matchup but isn't cupping or bowing irrelevant because shallowing happens through forearm rotation and has nothing to do with the wrist?
    Thanks!

    • @MiloLinesGolf
      @MiloLinesGolf  2 года назад

      You are correct that shallowing happens mainly through supination of the trail forearm, however the hands and wrists control the face which is kind of important and must be matched up to hit good shots.

    I think that it was Jack Nicklaus's swing coach that said all very good golfers have a relationship feel between the back of the lead hand and the face of the club. Video idea. Is this true?

    I can tend to hang back and flip at times, my instructor said cause I’m too closed at have way back and top of swing. I think I hang back and flip when I come over the top. What do you think would be the cause? His fix is a more Neutral grip specifically on left hand where I tend to be more across top of finger since adjusting to a nutral left hand is causing pain in left thumb what would cause that. Thx

  • @mjb8274

    My grip is neutral left strong right. If I take the club back naturally, I end up with a cup at the top. But if in the first few feet I "feel" like my left palm faces the sky, I end up flat or bowed at the top. Not sure which approach I should use, any thoughts?

      @@MiloLinesGolf that’s what I assumed. I’m always wondering if my wrist positions are hindering my ability of the wrist to hinge well. Always tinkering with this.

  • @biggregg5

    I'm working on swallowing my swing now, but instead of your backswing being steep then bowing your leading wrist at the top of your swing, why not just swing on your backswing straight to that position? To me it seems like there would be one less move to think about...especially if it's an unnatural move for someone.

    • @MiloLinesGolf
      @MiloLinesGolf  2 года назад +2

      Way easier to get physics working for you if you move the club up to under. It’s a pattern we see in most hitting sports.

      My swing appears steeper than it is due to my extremely long arms. In reality Sergio Garcia (one of the shallower looking swings) and I swing on exactly the same plane. instagram.com/p/CXkb8VOrQRd/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

      @@MiloLinesGolf I guess my perception of shallow is this way under move. Which it isn’t. You are what shallow should be . I think others look at a Brooke Henderson model and see that is shallow. Which is totally opposite what we should be doing . As she does hers . But has no other alternative to flip like crazy since she is so under the plane and out . Versus you on plane and swinging in with little face closure
