    • @bunnieskitties293

This comment comes about 8 months late, but Rottweilers are one of the more reserved guard dogs out there. It is common for them to actually let intruders come into a guarded space, then refuse to let them leave the guarded space. I believe the vast majority of the hate on Rotties comes from the fact they are more quiet than most guard dogs, far less likely to bark. So people feel like they didnt get much warning before a violent outburst even though the rotty probably did plenty of rumbling growling and posturing beforehand.
Rotties are very well-mannered dogs. They are not randomly aggressive, even if they are far more capable and willing to execute aggression than other breeds. Just a magnificent guard dog. Ive had several throughout my life and they have all been by far my favorites. Better than a golden, than a shaggy black mutt, than a lab/mastiff, or any of the dogs Ive dealt with that others owned.
I dont know why people insist on clipping their tails, though.

I truly appreciate how patient you were with his nail trim. It always makes my heart happy when I see groomers who actually pay attention to the dogs body language and understand that good doggos are still good doggos even if they despise getting their nails done.

The rottweiler rumble isnt a behaviour that should be encouraged because it can be confusing and set the dog up to fail. furthermore, most people, ESPECIALLY rottweiler people, dont actually know how to tell a rumble from a growl. If there is ANY indication of aggressive cues like bared teeth, wide eyes, stiffness, and lip licking, that IS NOT a rumble. it IS a growl.

my dogo carnario mix even guards strangers' toddlers.
it's usually not a problem because he is happy just watching them play from a distance, but if the child cries, he will push himself between the crying child and the caretakers.
If he thinks they're in distress he doesn't let anyone approach his newly acquired human puppies except his own family. we call him away then, but it can be a bit of an issue, because while he is not loud or aggressive, I wouldn't vouch for him to not at least growl or warning bite if the person would still try to get close to the child....and even if he doesn't intend to hurt.... things should not escalate to a warning "air bite" with a dog like this.
that's why if you got so protective dogs, you gotta always have an eye on them and make sure his interactions with people are safe for everyone.

"Guaranteed to make people cross to the other side of the road" yeah, so I can run up to hug him. Rotties are amazing.

As a rottie owner I wouldn't recommend that unless the dog knows you, but I love the energy! :D

I miss my Rottie, Buddy. And he didn't like his nails being clipped either. My husband would hold his head even with the muzzle on, while I did his nails. He loved taking a bath, getting brushed, the whole thing- until I started on his nails. I had a theory that because their feet have to hold up a lot of muscle and a head as big as a 25lb Thanksgiving turkey, that their feet are very sensitive. He didn't mind the Dremel as much on them, as long as he was pet at the same time, but when I got to the back nails, Mr Hyde showed up. He never bit me or anyone, and even him growling at me was something he only did with his nail cutting, so I did what I could to hurry, not wanting to tempt fate. And after I was finished with his grooming, he would whine and lick me to death, like he felt bad for growling! I raised him to be a big sweet ball of mush, never once trained him to protect or anything like that. He was my little helper, my Nurse Buddy I used to call him, because I used to lean on him to get up from a chair sometimes, as my body was and still is riddled with arthritis. He was also well socialized, as we had people stopping by our house all the time. He did scare the UPS guy, because he DIDN'T bark at him. My white Shepard barked at him, but my Rottie would just stare at him and watch him. The UPS guy said that scared him more than barking; he said having a 135lb creature just stare at you was really unnerving! But one thing we discovered was that we couldn't take Buddy in the car with us because if my husband got out and went into a store, Buddy would go into a red zone ready to protect me from all the people parked near us who were getting in their cars. He never did it at home, just in the car. It was a sight to behold, but also terrifying that this was just his protective nature at work and not training. (I could see why the Romans used Rotties in battle!) He was such a fun, wonderful dog and I miss him every day♡

My rotti loved bath time... I say bath and he go jump in and take a relaxed lay in the bath waiting for the water, but then I did start him early with bath as he made a mess the first day we got him so he needed it... Made me laugh when we took him to the vet, Vet said we can come back in a hour or two, we warned them he gets very nervous if I wasn't about, apparently he went all Picasso in his cage( Picasso == Does some painting with his No2.) they also had to give him a bath....

@@ntal5859 my guy was a big baby at the vet and would try to hide under the chairs! And he would shiver...but he never was aggressive or anything, he just wanted the usual- to escape. Some people were afraid of him because of his size, so we had to wait alone in the cat waiting area! Which was so funny to us because Buddy was in love with our calico cat. Tbey plated together, he "gave" her his bed, he used to lick her belly while she was laying on her back- it was adorable. We had other cats, but he loved her. Sometimes the other cats would whack his head if his huge noggin got too close to them and he would just sigh. He was a big goofball. He wasn't as "artistic" as yours, but then again, the vet never kept him, so who knows? He never got to explore much of his creative side, except for rearranging the furniture in the vet's waiting area!

It sounds like your rottweiler didn't respect you and knew that he was the boss.
