This is a great watch. Worth the money. Going head on with Rolex and even more for the purist - manual wind and no ugly date window cyclopse . They are hand building this by one person. Nice video mate
I think it’s a beautiful looking watch, and the price isn’t a concern to some people, so it will very quickly generate a waiting list . It’s worth what someone is prepared to pay .
The new Speedy Ed White will have limited availability due to Omegas manufacturing method where each movement will be assembled by one watchmaker who can only complete two a day. I understand that currently, there are only 6 Omega techs qualified to assemble the movement...that limits production to 3120 units a year (assuming no time off).
Interesting analysis Austin. I guess the answer to the “is it worth it?” question is driven by whether or not you’re specifically into the brand. This watch is one for the serious collector and/or specific Omega enthusiast for whom the 321 movement in a contemporary steel piece is something with historical significance, long awaited and therefore very desirable, so they’ll pay that hefty price tag. Would a die-hard Rolex fanboy feel the same way? Probably not (and understandably so) and to be fair the equally die-hard Omega fanboys probably aren’t paying the inflated prices Daytona’s are attracting these days either. As to whether or not it’ll hold its financial value, that depends, as you rightly say, on how available Omega decide to make this piece. For what it’s worth I suspect you’re right in suspecting that this is, in part at any rate, a prestige play with the Daytona on the other side of the equation, so I think Omega will keep the 321 fairly exclusive in order to avoid grey market discounting. But, when all’s said and done, it’s a quality watch which would grace any serious collection.
Well, the Rolex fanboys are out in force poopooing Omega. Predictable. No one is forcing you to buy one. For me, it’s a great alternative to buying a vintage model of dubious origin and history. As Daniel says, vintage watches can be a ticking time bomb. With this you get a modern product with all the looks of the vintage watch. What’s not to like? Oh, and by the way, it’s not false patina on the lume, the original 105.003 lume had that tint.
Give it two years and this will be 35% off through the usual grey channels. Omega just cannot help themselves every year launching "limited" edition models and the 321 mechanism will be stretched just like all other models and lines. There is absolutely no chance this will be a watch at a premium and flippable.
Nope this was their ace in the hole. They will NOT make it widely available and all the fanboys will pay though the nose for it. This is the 321. everyone wants that. As if a daytona is worth 20k. No its because you CANT get them. Omega has to hold back production like rolex does. They don't need the money they're a charity and pay no tax. they don't have to earn like every other watch brand. Omega is in a good position if they don't f it up.
This movement is handmade by one person. They can’t even produce it at mass quantities. The watch is already selling above and 18k on secondary market lol
except the market is already flooded with speedmaster pro and a million limited edition variations. no thx jefferson the waitlist can be 1000 years still not going to buy one
I wouldn’t speculate on increasing prices. If you love it, then buy it, if your don’t, then flip it. However, some Omegas have a way of growing bland on people too.
Investment potential: none despite making 2,000 a year only, as Omega will eventually roll out the 321 to other Speedy's if this one is a success, and it will be. It is however an interesting addition from an enthusiast perspective, being the first 321 movement in a steel reissue of a FOIS piece. It's undeniably an exciting time and promising direction for Omega. I'm pleased for the brand and the community . Would I buy one? No, I'd wait for a 321 steel Moonwatch in 42mm reasonably price i. e. 5 grand tops. I can make do with the 1861 Moonwatch if I really need to scratch that Speedy Pro space mission itch, which I don't at the moment. I'm currently enjoying the latest Racing 44 focused on the pre NASA racing heritage of the Speedy. But that's me. I'm sure this Ed White will sell out and rightfully so. Well done Omega.
May be the case with this piece but that’s one compared to the range of Rolex’s pieces that are currently unattainable at the moment....price wise it’s tough to swallow but as long as Rolex SS continue to make a no show in those display cases then it may be a great alternative. Nice vid Austin keep it up!
I like the watch but would not pay that sum of dollars. I agree with your thoughts, Omega will sell this as premium speedy. Will they put the cal 321 into the prof case? I bet they will, but not so soon...maybe 2 to 3 years downthe road.
A brand new fully hand made movement, gold plated, WITH A 321. One watchmaker assembles the entire watch! Yes it’s priced the same as the Daytona, why wouldn’t it be? These won’t be mass market I heard they can make 40 a day.
What we are seeing in the industry is that all the manufacturers who want to be in the race are raising prices, trying to close the gap between themselves and Rolex. Look the Rolex supply chain has left a lot of money on the table and people want to grab that money. In the next few years some of these companies will either be able to keep up or will have to drop out of the race.
The market will obviously determine the prices people are willing to spend. But If people hold back and keep trying for a Rolex in lieu of other purchases it will further propel Rolex up the food chain. If people are fine buying other watches we will continue to see prices increase across all brands. For example more $8k oris watches or $10k grand seiko or $15k steel omega.
I think 2019 - 2021 will be the years that redefine the watch market - some people will lose badly. One good point is that $500 micro brands will continue to flood the market and do well.
I understand that the movement is hand assembled if this is true, it will be hard to flood the market. I agree the price is high. Waiting lists may be the norm for this one piece, though because of limited production. I do agree, I'd rather have a more robust Daytona, but I've tried that for a couple of years and it's not happening any time soon, so who knows, I might just go down to the AD and buy one.
Let's be clear, this is NOT a limited addition. It's a low volume production piece that's hand made. At the end of the day it's for movement geeks/snobs. It will sell out and hold it's value but it's no Daytona. Just get a Speedmaster and save your money. As we have said so many times. Most people don't even notice your watch much less care what makes it tick. Final point it's not chronometer certified does meant it's not going to be accurate but at that price it better be.
Austin, I think you are right about limited production numbers. The Omega marketing speaks to there being a special, dedicated workshop for these movements where the watch makers are focused on complete assembly of a timepiece including the watch head and bracelet. This suggests no mass manufacturing, but special, hand built timepieces in a small workshop. I am betting that Omega uses this as an excuse to produce low numbers, create an air of exclusivity, and thus drive up demand. They can blame the low supply easily on the exacting work that goes into the manufacture in this dedicated workshop. Sounds like a really special movement and watch, doesn't it? I don't buy the hype though, especially at $14K. Buy as an investment on speculation? No thanks, high risk here IMHO.
Very interesting...well, that will certainly justify the price to some people. Still, I think the components will be mass produced, just not the assembly. But then aren't all mechanical assemblies done by hand? Anyway, it looks good on paper and that'll be good enough for some.
@@watchsymposium I don't know that the 321 movement or components will be mass produced, so as to maintain that allure of exclusivity. The business model that I am thinking of is what Montblanc does. I think Omega should have priced it at around the 10K mark, also,, I share with you the majority of the market is going to be made up of the quick buck flipper and the connoseour wanting the vintage looking piece without the nuances of a real vintage

They screwed it up, but not the way you described. They priced it WAY too high, and limited production TOO much, with their "single watchmaker'" gimmick. First, they should've made it (321) a standard-production movement. They could offer it (321) in this pre-Moon case (which I like) AND a Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch case (which I also like). They could stay with the domed sapphire crystal, (and/or the spec-accurate Hesalite crystal, wouldn't matter), clear case back, ceramic bezel and vintage bracelet (ideally with their quick-adjust feature added to the clasp). They could've also provided a really nice stainless steel case back for swapping out, at additional cost, or as part of the package, and price the watch at $6,500 to $8,500 USD, depending. Had they done that, they would've had every Speedy owner, collector and first-time-buyer lining up around the CITY, not the block, to get one. It's really a shame.
Jeez, it seems like every week there’s another Speedmaster released. This one looks beautiful, but man, that price is far too prohibitive for me. I’m sure they’ll be a hit with the diehard Speedy fans, though.

You mentioned this watch as one of Omegas “nuclear options “ -they know what we want but boy you are going to pay 💰!! I think Omega spent more time on the marketing scenario than the watch and this sort of 🇨🇭 Swiss phucery really turns me off the brand!!
Price is ridiculous. Like if Rolex had been selling 5000 different Submariner models and suddenly more than doubled the price for an almost identical model.

With that price, more reason to go Rolex! Thanks Omega! :D
I have 321 50 years old! You really think that you gonna make money in Rolex ! Disturbed Rolex fan ! I The swatch group dwarfs Rolex by several billions. Not trying to hurt your feelings ! It is Sedna gold alloy . Don’t buy omegas.
Way too expensive, at the end of the day it’s still an omega,, it’s trying to punch above it’s weight
steve For craftsmanship it punches very well. But not collectibility wise and value retention.
They blew it with the size !!!!! This watch needed to be a 42 heck even a 41mm , also a Speedmaster with an exhibition window ? Pleeeease NOooooo !
The snoopy is still more desirable
It’s pronounced Ho-mage.
Is that not what I said?
Omega doin' what they do best:
fuckin' Omega owners/collectors by releasing a new Speedmaster every 4 months or so 😂😂
How many Speedmasters they released in the last 12 months? 4 models? 😆
Ha check out Rolex forum and see how many seasoned Rolex owners are buying this!
i would never pay more than 5-6k for the Speedmaster! not worth more
Tiger M okay. Others will though
Cut off that dirty scruff, Austin.
Alexander He looks good 🧔🏻
Not interested in this watch. For that money I’d rather have the Titanium Sedna Seamaster. Actually I think that watch is less expensive than this watch.
Dislike the fake patina.
the new 123 is fake, so the Patina must be fake to then.
Hahaha an opinion from a rolex fanboy! You cannot deny it sir...this watch went to the moon... and your rolex daytona failed....sorry...✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻

Check out Rolex forum..hahaha many seasoned Rolex owners actually bought this!
From the comments I can honestly say that Omega fans so cheap. I’m ashamed to own an Omega to be honest.
