The only other game that has that story telling, atmosphere and music is Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness, sadly the controls and some other stuff suck because it was released incomplete
The reason why some of the levels, such as the swamps, kong and log missions feel really disjointed and feel slapped together is because the xbox 360/ps3 versions have had the pre mission cutscenes removed for some unknown reason. In the ps2/xbox/game cube versions of the game there were small cutscenes that would play, ranging from simple glimpses and hints of what may be coming up next, or in the cases relevant to the mentioned levels, cutscenes that bridge the gaps between levels to stop them feeling disjointed and sudden. I honestly cant fathom why they were removed. Theres one really cool one where after hayes is trampled by the v rex and it tackles kong off the edge of the cliff, a cutscene would play showing kong and the v rex falling down the cliff, hitting the ground and staring eachother down. These cutscenes just make the experience 10x more cohesive and better in general
It’s so strange - About a year ago I made a video essay on this game for a video game writing course because it was a particularly fond game I bought after renting it twice from blockbuster, and one of the first things I said was that I doubted anybody else even remembered let alone played it. And suddenly I’m seeing this influx of content from people I follow all remembering and playing this game. I guess it turns out the game had more of a passionate following than I could’ve thought. I’m stoked to see it! Great video.
This game was fantastic, I used to have it on Playstation 2 and I played the absolute shit out of it, got the secret ending and everything. It's one of those games that is "forgotten" in the sense that it sits deeper in my subconscious than something like, say, Ocarina of Time, but whenever someone mentions it the memories come flooding back.
I remember I was 3 years old when I first saw King Kong in theatres. It always struck me with amazement and emotion from the action to the emotional scenes with Kong himself. The music also made both the game and movie memorable. I’m glad people have love and respect for both the game and movie because they still hold up with nostalgia and awesomeness. Like you said in the video, a remaster like Destroy all humans would be amazing for this game
It's been awhile since I did this, but I wanted to say that this video made me pick up the game for 360 again back when you first uploaded this video. I had it for ps2 growing up and loved the heck out of it, this vid reminded me of it and I got the game again 'cause of it. Thanks man, so many of your videos are timeless and invaluable, and definitely succeed in broadening people's horizons more than you probably realize.
2 MAGAZINES ON BACK UP! I played this game so much when I was younger! The atmosphere, immersion, sound design, music, lighting, guns, details, scale, suspense, creatures, time period technology, and survival aspect of it is incredible and something I wish we could experience this day in age with newer technology! This game was actually pretty scary as a kid too! Such a classic and great game! The vrex and other dinosaurs were handled so well and really make you feel small and puny! It's immersion was amazing! Good times! ❤ :') The Ed, edd, and Eddy comparison of of Carl to eddy is perfect! 😆 what a great classic show! I've always loved gorillas and primates and found them fascinating! I remember back in like 2nd grade my mom and my aunt checked me out of school to go see King Kong in the Theatre! From then on we called it "Kong Thursday!" Good times! 😆❤
This game is underrated and overlooked as heck. People often say that Spiderman 2 is the best movie based game, but this game here gets my vote. It's that good.
Oh man, I remember this game as a kid! I got it for Christmas one year with a GameCube and some other games as well, and remember being so terrified of it that I gladly let my older brother take the controller. Looks like I know what I'm looking for in the storage closet this weekend!
Great video! I used to play this game all the time when it first came out! Great memories. Can’t believe it was that long ago. They should definitely give this an HD upgrade.
I remember this game and loving it as a kid. Not related to the game but did you know the original king kong had a cut scene with a giant spider? apparently P.J recreated that scene using the same old technology they used in the 1920's. I always thought that was rather cool.
Absolutely loved this game as a kid I played it everyday on my PS2, the natives scared the shit out of me and I always replayed the Kong missions because those were my favorite!
I dont remember theirs was a twitter poll for this video and weather or not I voted but I'm glad you made this. I love this game as a kid and it scared the snot out of me.
Loved this one and I didn't even mind playing as the human Driscoll in between. Loved facing against dino's with the period piece guns and spears and ammo being not so plentiful. If Ubisoft made the game nowadays, I guarantee to kill one tiny dinosaur, you'd need to run around for ten hours grinding to be able to fight them.
God I remember everything, to the sounds, to the early levels with the bugs and how I didn't want to face them head on so I would just keep chucking bone spears over and over again. Good times.
I played this game so much that even as a kid I turned off the aiming crosshairs for the entirety of the game and could still nail my targets especially the spears (my personal favorite weapons) good times damn I missed playing this game on my GameCube
Very shocked by the ambition on display in this game. I have a soft spot for Jackson’s Skull Island just because forgotten by time ecology is a big favorite of mine. The ecosystem of the fissure is my favorite part of the film, I was giddy to see all the inverts in the game
I loved this game, I remember I visited the hospital once and I went to one of the computers to write down the cheats. I found a cheat saying you could give King Kong a golden Thompson which I tried a dozen of times and I was like: "Did I wrote it down incorrectly??". Of course it turned out to be fake.
I couldn't buy this game as a kid because my parent hated movie-tie-in-games, contrary to most families. But after seeing how much passion they had it almost feels like a Lucas-Arts game. I don't care about a videogames budget or limitations. I think everything can be expertly crafted with love and passion.
You shouldn't compare the "visual clarity" of a single player game versus a multiplayer game, because they are designed with different goals in mind. In most single player games, it needs to be tilted towards the player, even if it's unbeknownst to them, due to the perceived lack of fairness if they continue to lose. Meanwhile, a skill like color and shade differentiation is extremely vital in a game like Rising Storm 2, which has enemies blending into their environment almost perfectly, not due to poor design, but quite literally the opposite. It is obvious that in the real world, an army's goal is to camouflage into their surroundings, and no game of this genre can claim to be realistic or immeserive in the slightest if it doesn't attempt to achieve this to some degree. Games should *not* be streamlined for people who lack the perception, or willingness to build upon it.
i remember getting it for xbox because it had no games really at the time and woah, totally surprised me! Also, Spiderman 2 is the best movie tie in game
I saw this film in 05. I thought it was cool but man did it feel long. I never bought this game but I did play it in an old tech store when I was a kid.
Is weird to me how you talked about the issues of getting hitman to work, while when I played it worked perfectly. But I have never been able to get this game to work and ironically you didn't mention anything about it this time.
The only other game that has that story telling, atmosphere and music is Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness, sadly the controls and some other stuff suck because it was released incomplete
Thought I was the only one who remembered this. Blew my mind as a kid.
Same
I remember getting this because I subscribed to a gaming magazine. I think I was 15 at the time and thought it was quite good.
Loved this game as a kid, well this and war of the monsters on the ps2
Never really finished the game, that giant centipede scares the shit out of me
Hell yeah
holy shit.. this game was amazing. you just took me back.
Yep me too, loved this game.
The only other game that has that story telling, atmosphere and music is Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness, sadly the controls and some other stuff suck because it was released incomplete

I remember really loving the game back then on gamecube, haven't played it in ages.
Gamecube was so dope with this game!
2 Cvit videos in one week?!? What the hell is happening?!?!?
I’ll take it

Man this takes me back....played this game a LOT back then.
The 360 version definitely looked next Gen at the time. Especially when you saw it on the kiosk. HD tvs were also so new. Great combo.
I never forgot this game. It’s my childhood and I’ve been trying to fix my ps3 or find a ps2 to be able to play my copy again 😔

The Raptor sequences scared the living shit out of me. Had nightmares about T-rexs hunting for me as well, but kept going back to it
Haven’t played this game in years, but instantly recognized in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, they used the V-Rex roar for Ghidora
This game is honestly my childhood, I really really wish it could be remastered.
i’ve beaten this game around 30 times. love every play through

It's because of this video that I'm gifting this game to my dad as a Christmas present! (Hes a *MASSIVE* fan of Kong, and just gorillas in general.)

1:39 "close brother and sister" i'm thinking Fatal Frame 5 plot
I used to play this all the time on PC. My little brother was terrified of the raptors
Probably beat this game atleast a 100 times back in 2005-2006 lol literally had a obsession with it.
We need a remastered of this.... what a game
Well done (👏)! This game still remains a favorite of mine to this day. 😊
I loved renting this game from Blockbuster for a couple weeks, and 100%ing it on xbox 360
I especially loved the kong game play as a kid
Oh yeah l, this game terrified me as a kid, but I still played through it. It was so good!
0:16 is the most 2005 cast EVER.
I watched the movie and I play the game on PS2 and black and white mode for some reason. But it was still cool
Bro i loved this game as a kid on ps2. Good job
This was one of my first GameCube games. :') Ubisoft needs to remaster this game honestly. I'm glad this game is backwards compatible on Xbox lol
I too was grateful to play this masterpiece, rare for a movie based video game to be great, those fuckin centipedes 😰
I loved this game so much, unfortunately my copy was damaged. So the game froze at random times and I never finished it.
That "almost dead" music sounds like Deus Ex HR

Predator concrete jungle was a classic too.

i always wondered why they changed kong´s face in the 360 version. In the PS2 version, he looks very different
