    Rabea's tones here are just spectacular, huge congratulations and thanks to you, Martin - you are truly the Jim Marshall of the 21st Century. Also, can I mention Dave Hollingworth's THUNDEROUS bass tone? Christ on a bike. What a sound. Toska were always special, but they have really stepped up their game. DAVE!

    Rabea has the ability to tame more gain than anyone else I've heard. That gain is lovely and crunchy, by the way. Loads of bottom end but still keeping the note clarity in the high end. Awesomeness all round.

    Two of my favourite people, reviewing my favourite amplifier's "Big Brother". Thank you Martin , Rabea and Toska, for doing what you do with such passion and humbleness. Being a student, I had to work full summer 2 years ago to afford the VX Kraken, and I was so happy when I bought it and played it for the first time. Victory equals incredible cuality. I'm still in love and will always be. Thank you so much Victory!

      Telecaster Kerrang Yes, I am playing the amp nearly exclusively. It fits my needs perfectly. Versatile, easy to carry, small and light weight and enough power for every situation. That doesn‘t mean that the other amps are bad. Absolutely not!! High class gorgeous amplifiers!! I love them all. They all sound phenomenal! The Friedman & Bogner are easier to dial in for bedroom levels, that‘s more difficult with the Kraken. After all the Kraken is a great tool for my desires. I can highly recomment it. (The other two as well of course ;)) Regarding its price and its possibilities it‘s a stunner! The matching 2x12 cab is great as well.

      @@jochenkluetsch A trick im using on my vx100 for bedroom volume is to just turn the level down on my reverb which is in the effects loop. It means I get a good sweep on the main amps master for home use. Outside the home I just turn the level on the reverb back up

    • @jochenkluetsch
      @jochenkluetsch 4 года назад

      Krish Patel Hi Krish, thanks for the hint but I have no pedal where I can turn down the direct signal. But I found the solution. I bought the JHS black amp box. It is passive and works like a master volume in the effects loop. Perfect for me.

    I love my VX Kraken.
    I personally don't feel the need to have a clean channel because I can get as clean as I want by rolling off the volume control on my guitar and that suits me just fine.
    The preamp focus is a nice touch but again I don't feel I need it because an overdrive will do the same thing and as guitar players, we all have an overdrive to use.
    The thing I think it actually lacks is a presence control and possibly a resonance control.
    If I can get my hands on a schematic, I'd look at installing one into the VX.

    Here is a suggestion for a future revision:
    (1) get rid of the crunch/clean switch - instead, make that 2 separate channels (or modes?), each with their own gain and master volume knob, for a total of 3 channels. Other than finding room for 2 more knobs (make all the knobs slightly smaller?) - that should be a trivial change. Then just label these as channel 1 (clean), channel 2 (crunch) and channel 3 (lead?)... even though there'd be some overlap between the range of each channel, as there is now.
    (2) create a voicing switch in the back - that flips this back and forth from either a modern metal amp (similar to the current gain ranges of each channel/setting), to an "everyone else" amp for players who want a wider range of styles - and don't need more gain than the current channel 2 with preamp focus on and gain at about 2 O'Clock - that's plenty of gain for everyone but modern metal players. Then the "Modern metal mode" would keep things about the same as the amp is now - so "everyone else" mode would simply change (and expand!) the range of gain on the new channels 2 and 3, probably ending up with even more overlap between the three channels on this proposed 3 channel amp. Meanwhile, Channel 1 (clean) would still aim to be a high headroom Fender-like clean for either flip of the proposed voicing switch. And, again, all 3 channels would have their own independent gain and master volume. So in "everyone else" mode, channels 2 and 3 each might have a lower gain starting point? (or something like that). A variation on this is to have a "voicing" switches for both of the two gain channels. (what is currently gain1-crunch and gain2), and possibly with more than two possible positions for each switch.
    It seems like these changes are minimal from a tech perspective, so they shouldn't increase the costs much - and wouldn't require much R&D - but would be excellent improvements.
    Personally, "The Jack" would fit my style of playing better - but I'd prefer the amp I just described over "the Jack". With this proposed optionally-non-modern-metal, but still high gain - and keeping the "preamp focus" button - the overall tones of this proposed amp will be BETTER than "The Jack", and I love the midi that this has - but with this "everyone else" switch, it would have a range of tones that better matches what the "the Jack" is doing - but without sacrificing a thing for the modern metal players. So what I described is even a step above both the current super kraken and "the Jack", and consolidates the target audience of both amps into a single amp.
    Thanks for considering these suggestions. (or, maybe this could be a custom-shop option?)
    But as I've carefully examined this amp - it is so far ahead of the competition - and so amazing - I doubt I'll be able to wait for such a revision before I purchase one. It's the only amp I've EVER seen that does ALL of the following well: (1) clean (and a good pedal platform), (2) bluesbreaker tones, plus really good higher-gain crunch, (3) hard rock and hair-metal tones, (4) modern metal. MOST similar amps do the clean modes well and the high gain modes well, but fail at the crunch/blues tones. And the suggestions I mentioned earlier are not that hard or expensive to accomplish with the amp's current situation due to the midi... which can then easily trigger volume adjustments at other parts of the signal chain, which also accomplishes this. So the midi provides many workarounds for some of my suggestions, making them attainable with the current amp. So, as I mentioned, I'll probably go ahead and buy the current one. But I think these are good suggestions for a future version.

    • @PaulJoy
      @PaulJoy 5 лет назад +1

      I've just got one of these and while it is possible to dial the volume down to acceptable levels you need a steady hand. I know the same is true for many 100w amps so it's not unique to the VX100 but it goes something like this on the master volume...
      1 - 5% Nothing
      6% Sound starts to come through
      7% Sounds great
      8% Yeah thats bloody loud
      9% Neighbours call the police
      10 - 15% Good for live performance
      16% > Sound guy doesn't like you anymore :)
      Honestly, I wish there was a little more control range for the masters, I can't see the knobs getting past 9 o'clock, which you can see also is true when Rabea is playing it in this video. This is a loud 100w valve amp and that goes with the territory though.
