      My bottle of Klasse arrived and I applied it to my XPS 13. It didn't take that much to remove the tacky texture. As you noted the repeated applications make surface even more smooth and like new. My laptop deck no longer feels like melted rubber from a humid climate!

    Dell need to go into the business of making race car tires that never lose their stickiness. They seem to know how to make a laptop palm rest that becomes sticky with age.

    After spending thirty minutes scrubbing the surface of my Latitude with cleaners, water, and a microfiber cloth, the surface is sticky enough to catch flies. So your video is a godsend. Thanks! I have Goo Gone, and a bottle of ISO, and have just ordered bottle of Klasse. Sticky fingers crossed!

    Today, I fixed my sticky Dell Precision 5510. Get a microfiber towel (or other screen cleaning cloth). Spray a little bit of screen cleaning substance on the towel. It needs to be specific fluid for cleaning screens. Put some chalk powder on the towel. I used baby chalk powder. Rub that on the areas surrounding the keyboard. When the powder was absorbed by the towel, I even rubbed it on the entire keyboard itself (be careful not to get the chalk powder underneath the keys!). Since the towel was very slightly wet, the dry, white chalk powder could be rubbed out so that the black surface of the laptop wouldn't look too white. The rubbing out of the chalk powder took me some time, to get the surface looking black again. My towel was too dry, I assume.

    Thanks for the video. I had orange degreaser and 91% alcohol, but no Klasse. I couldn't get rid of the tackiness after using orange degreaser and the 91% alcohol. I then experimented with a razor blade and the orange degreaser. I found that after you wipe on the orange degreaser you can then use a new razor blade to gently scrape off the rubber coating. The orange degreaser give it just enough lube and it the rubber comes off pretty easy. I got it down to the bare plastic and it's all good now.

      sheesh, well if you had the klasse product you wouldnt have had to resort to scraping off the rubber coating

    Today I fixed my sticky Dell Latitude e6330 by replacing the palmrest. The new assembly cost under $20 on eBay (compare with the cost of Klasse), and came with the trackpad, etc. But before I thought of replacing the palmrest, I saw your video. I used Turtle Wax Trim Restorer, as recommended elsewhere, because it's easier to find and cheaper. And it greatly reduced the stickiness. Maybe Klasse works even better, but I sense that these finishes are not intended for things you handle, especially if you don't want to transfer the finish to other things that you touch.

    • @therealmichaelphelps

      everyone has to find their way, i personally find the armor all alternatives leave a petroleum based oil behind but that process actually ages plastic and rubber surfaces faster, its fine for a temporary fix but its not long lasting. Klasse is acrylic based and doesnt leave petroleum behind and is dry to touch. And every laptop is different, some have replaceable palmrests and others its the entire top lid and far too much hassle to replace, and then if you find a good product you can use that product on other things too.

    • @LarryLevine-j8o
      @LarryLevine-j8o 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@therealmichaelphelps ... Thanks for that distinction about Klasse. I hadn't picked that up from the previous discussion, and will definitely file that advice. The palmrest replacement in fact was time-consuming. However, the improved functionality of a fresh trackpad was unexpected - from long experience with old refurb Dell's, I'd gotten used to the imprecision. Plus the palmrest I got came with the fingerprint reader - so that, too. And it was a great opputunity to clean out the inside of the laptop.

    AvE explained once that the cause of the stickiness is fat and urea decomposing the butyl nitrile polymer.
    By degreasing you stop the process, but don't be too aggressive, or the rubber will turn into crumble. I guess removing the degreaser with Iso or non-denatured rubbing alcohol, helps much.
    The last step is glycerine, imhost.

    • @therealmichaelphelps

    Didn't have klasse but I had the next best thing: trim and plastic restorer. Had to do a couple of passes and it made the surface a bit slicker. honestly didn't quite matter much as I was working with something I picked up for a dollar.

    Thanks a lot for your video - very tempted to try the same. Unfortunately, the Klasse products don't seem to be available in EU, but since it's made in Germany, it is very likely, that we can get the same product from a different make. Are there any clues on the bottle, who the actual OEM could be?

    G'Day Michael, I've tried searching everywhere here in Australia for Klasse but with not luck. So have you tried other protectant type products that were able to get a close results to Klasse?
    Using your regime, I tried Windex Surface and glass, Isopropyl alcohol, and seemed to get the results you did. I then tried Mothers Protectant, but the surface in places is still a bit tacky on my ASUS laptop, but if that's the best I can get without Klasse, it's a lot better than it was before, but can you offer any advice? In any case thanks for posting the video! Cheers Ron

    • @therealmichaelphelps
      @therealmichaelphelps  Год назад

      try ordering klasse online through amazon or ebay, its a german product... its not a real "protectant" in the sense of traditional protectants because it doesnt leave a residue behind but its really good on certain materials in restoring them

    Hey! What if its a white/silver-ish rubberized laptop like the alienware? Will this work on other colors? Will it remove palm/wrist stain or stain in general on rubber?

    • @therealmichaelphelps
      @therealmichaelphelps  9 месяцев назад

      i kind of doubt it will remove the stain but you can try. Really spend time cleaning with degreaser and a microfiber cloth like 10 minutes, polishing and buffing off and repeating and see if it gets better

    Hello I have a Dell XPS also suffering of the stickyness I found the KLASSE product on ebay and got it, however I followed your process, and is still sticky, I had used the Zep degreaser as the option, followed the instructions step by step, After the degreaser, I used the isopropyl alcohol and the greasiness sensation came back, I use the Klasse product and it kind of cleaned it but is more like placed a layer of cream over the stickyness that after a few minutes, its worn off and the stickiness comes back... what do you suggest? should I get the Goo Gone Kitchen degreaser? it does make a difference?

    • @therealmichaelphelps
      @therealmichaelphelps  9 месяцев назад

      how long did you spend scrubbing the surface with the degreaser? Because i spent a good 10 minutes on that one step alone, i think i tried to make that clear, and it depends also on how badly sticky it is, you might have to really clean it, but not so bad that the surface peels off. Also with the klasse after you clean it really good, i applied it several times, letting it sit on there a minute, and re applying it a couple times in between and buffing it off.
