    The magic eraser worked great on a x230 I restored. Instead of Nivea, I used Meguiars Ultimate Black plastic restorer for auto trim. I did a nice job

    I was frustrated when I got Thinkpad T495 today from the organization! It was a used laptop and hence the condition was just the same as shown in this video. I am glad that I found your video, could have never imagined something like this. Thanks for making my day

    Dude, this is insane. I had some shallow but nasty looking white scratch on one of my studio monitors with black mate finish (I did it accidently while moving), tried everything, it just stayed there. I watched your video thinking "there's just no freaking way it works" but what the hell, let's try it. IT'S GONE. Completely. I can't tell now where exactly it was. I did all the surface to freshen it up, and both monitors look like brand new. Thank you.

      i did the cream and it works well, but only use a little bit, like half of what you see here. i feel like even after minutes of buffing and drying and buffing,my cover still feels ..... emollient. i can still leave a finger print behind

      @@TheEtherealNebulous i still use this nivea cream, but much less than pictured here. you want something with the microcrystalline wax in it. the silver and blue tin will not work since it is water based, and this is wax based.
      i now use an alchohol wipe after the cream application . its amazing how much grime comes off with the cream and alchohol

    You ****MUST**** Put a cloth or a A4 paper between the Screen and the Keyboard first before doing anything. Otherwise, you will get a good cover but bad screen. Cheers

      @Raymond The keyboard would leave marks on the screen while you're applying pressure on the lid.

    It's ironic because I have a can of nivea sitting in my dresser for six months because the damn cream won't absorb into my skin and I look like a ghost, but i recently got a t-series thinkpad that now has a few light marrs on it, not enough to warrant a polish but enough to use the cream to make them go again. I'm going to try it now, i'm sure it's going to work wonderfully. I never noticed that the thinkpads had specs in the surface until i was carrying mine outta the office at night and saw silver specs in it bouncing off the light. awesome video.

    Just a suggestion, you still have cream in the cracks where it says "Lenovo" perhaps a toothpick can get rid of that

      Yes that works too, it will dry and crumble away after some hours and you can blow it away.

    Really fantastic! thanks for sharing some good tricks. Let me share one with you, put a cloth under the laptop so it won't move around when you polish it.

    Apply car wax over the surface after it will give it a nice smooth surface no sticky left.

    Pretty cool. Saw another guy using plasti dip. Guess you could do that if your case is totally destroyed. This is great to know as I'm "balling on a budget" looking for a work computer to replace my old t420.

    Got myself a few free Lenovo laptops for refurbishing, going to try to clean them up with these methods. What's the "cream" you used? And what does it do exactly?

      It is Nivea classic. If you have faded grey plastics or rubber it will restore the black color. This might be more necessary on even older laptops.

    didn't do the nivea cream afterward, but might if it starts to pick up fingerprints

    Nice choice of music.
    I would maybe think about using some kind of paste wax (furniture or automotive polish), but would never have thought to use Nivea cream. How did you come up with the idea? I wonder how long does the laptop keep smelling nice?
    My W530 and X230 lids are not too dirty but not perfect, I feel rather tempted to try out your method (I even have all the stuff on hand), on the other hand maybe it seems less attractive to thieves if the laptop looks old and scratched?

      The idea comes from restoring automotive parts... people use peanut butter (no joke) to darken faded car plastic. There are some funny vids on RUclips about that

      No, but it should be as s simple as possible.There are also commercial products for the car industry to darken plastic.

    help what to do if my x230 got scratches so deep the metal layer is visible?
    i just bought class A refurbished x230 for 300$ and under stiicker it had scratches to metal

    what if you are able to see the brown layer under the black layer? what should you do for that?

      It seems the black coating is gone completely? Depends a bit on the model, you can still do the same process shown in this video and if nothing helps buy a new/used top lid.

    he used Abrasive paste for car polishing, but he also removed the layer of color in the thinkpad logo, i mean the red dot.

    Awesome video. Question: I have X1 Carbon's Gen 5 and up. Is it safe to try it on those? Since the surface is really soft kinda rubbery. If so, only the top covers or can I do the area around the keyboard & the trackpad as well?

      it's gonna clean the surface nicely, but don't expect miracles in terms of removing scratches. Laptop in the video doesn't have any real scratches on it.

      Well ThinkPads have a water drainage system but just don't spill it on the keyboard :)

    I just tried it. It didn’t remove the clouding. Should I press harder ? I used the original mr clean eraser, is the generic better?

      It is a generic brand but you should try to use water polish as well and more rotations.

      Panorama as a circle Thanks. I used water and did 2 rotations, unfortunately it didn’t remove the clouding. The cream helped a bit though. I don’t know if the clouding is too deep or it’s some kind of burning... That’s the way I received it.

      It should work even on newer Thinkpads and some people reported success on newer models as well

      Most likely not because this helps for old faded plastic, not worn off trackpads. The T430 have stickers on the trackpad that you can replace unless you have a more modern laptop.

      You might try some plastic refresher/darkener from the automotive industry but no guarantee
