Hey buddy, glad to see our Txfellows here. I am from Fairfield Tx. Question, currently I am contemplating between rehearing my Rubicon Gladiator from 4:10 to either 4:88 or 5:13. A few mechanics I spoke to, seem to Not recommend the 5:13 if I only would consider running 37" tires. What is your experience so far??
I would agree w them. If you don't tow a lot or run 37 or larger tires, 4.88 is spot on IMO. I love my 5.13s on the rocks, but on a daily it's a little overkill, even on 37s.
Dang, I am on 37's with stock gearing in my '21 rubicon and got about 17-17.5 average driving about 5 hours each way from Oklahoma to Missouri. I was definitely going a bit slower....about to put 5.13's in and am curious how that's going to affect my mileage. Hopefully it'll get a little better!
Ironic coming across your video today. I just made that same trip up 37 myself. I live up here near Dallas though. Those MPG numbers are similar to what I get in my gladiator with 4.88 gears while running 37x12.50R17 KO2s. How often do you make the trip down to the gulf coast?
The fam and I usually try to hit the coast couple times a year. I was riding solo and git bored so made a video lol I wondered about 4.88, I almost we that route but my installer said do the 5.13s I was just in Dallas at the rangers /Yankees series last week! Small world 🌎
Hey man.. thanks for this video. I'm going to go from 35's to 38's and defititnly going with 5.13's... I'm curious what you paid for the labor and the gears out the door for the install? Thanks in advance and thanks for the video (Liked and Subbed).
I swear I check, not sure how I missed your question. I paid 2K out the door w tazer lite included. Seems the going rate here has gone up to 2500 without tazer !
I would have done it from a fill-up before and after the trip, calculate it using miles driven and gallons required to refill. That MPG reading in the display is a decent guide but very inaccurate.
In fact based on your suggestion, I made and posted a video comparison at 60 mph and 65 mph. I appreciate you watching my video and thanks for the feedback.
That's more or less what I get...same set up as yours...and I live in stx as well...only thing I don't like but no choice is on the hills especially going to GW transmission going in and out of 8th but overall it's ok
I live in Wisconsin what jeep gladiator has the 377 years in it and I’m running 35 inch tires falcon water parks and I average out around 7580 miles an hour and I get anywhere from 16 to 17 miles a gallon
What about Cold air Intakes I just saw a video on trailrecon chanel mechanic was saying air intakes r not good u get more dust on u engine what r u toughs I got 2 jeeps and I will like to replace my factory air filters but should I do cold air intake o regular kn filters what is u toughs on the subject? Thanks
I ran them on my previous sports cars, very beneficial. However on these jeeps I'd wonder if you would get the same gains or like you said maybe dust could be an issue. Heck I'd probably look here on RUclips for some vid w them on the 3.6 and see what others say. I'm curious as well !
I get the same mileage on 37 13.50r17 Nitto Extreme Terrain Mud Grapplers with 4.10's as daily mixed driving. But highway speeds like you doing I get in the 13's mpg. You didn't have your gear displayed on the dash. With those 5.13's you probably hit 8th more on highway. I'm ok staying with my 410's. It's as if my normal driving use mpg didn't change. However when I get air lockers I'll have my shop put in the 513's while they are at it. And bigger diff covers for cooling.
Ya these 5.13s are almost too much for the freeway. On this vid I had huge heavy toyo mts 95 lbs ea... mileage was crap 😆 My current BFG KO2S are doing better. 4.10s are perfect
@@TXJeepDad Oh buddy a hemi swap would put you on a whole new level. Love your jeep, just not a fan of the pentastar v6. A hellcat would be Hella glorious.
Thanks for the video! The info you provided is exactly what I needed to know. 🇺🇲🤙🏽
Dang, that’s really good! I get 15 flat in my TJ with 31’s and 3.73’s so yours is amazing!
These newer 8 sp transmissions are crazy, makes a diff for sure. Love the TJs ! We are working on one at work 🤙
Badazz! Great video, bro. We appreciate the info.
Thanks brother I appreciate it
Just subscribed! I think your channel is pretty awesome bro!
Thank you and I appreciate it. Just having fun and sharing info 👍🏼

Shoot I'm worse now I think ! Barely 13-14 hwy on my last trip. 11-14 is my all around avg. I only drive about 4k mi a year now thankfully lol

I wonder what you would get @65 mph? That would be a great video for others around the country that can't do 77. Like in the north east.
In fact based on your suggestion, I made and posted a video comparison at 60 mph and 65 mph. I appreciate you watching my video and thanks for the feedback.
I can't drive over 74mph
I just drove 498 mi at 68-70 mph (cruise control) and avg 16.1
@humbertorecio5034 do you have a programmer, if running larger tires? Man mi e git 90 plus on my last trip, even on mud tires. Mileage was awful tho!
On 37” tires and factory 4.10 gears I’m getting 19mpg in my Mojave…
I wish you had turned on your gear indicator. Assuming you have the automatic I'd like to see if you're in 7th, or 8th gear.
It hits 8th gear no problem. Still a blast to drive, Gas mileage is not getting any better tho lol
That's more or less what I get...same set up as yours...and I live in stx as well...only thing I don't like but no choice is on the hills especially going to GW transmission going in and out of 8th but overall it's ok

My gears seem pretty crazy now after driving on the streets more, but on the trails it's perfect. 35s are perfect for the JT 👍🏼

I just got a 2022 Willys. Thinking about going with the exact same setup. What size lift do you have?
It's a Rustys 4 in lift
It's crazy how diff it looks when you 1st see it. Almost went 3.5 but said what the heck and chose the Rustys kit. Definitely pleased w rhe kit

It hits 8th gear thankfully but ya my mileage is low. I really like the nitto tires, mine are heavy AF lol
Air lockers are on my list too
How many miles per Tank ru getting average thanks..
Heck not much lol it's about 13-15 hwy and in town. Maybe a tad more hwy if I baby it
I have a fear of running out of gas, so I always fill at 1/4 a tank. Not sure how many miles I could make it 🤣
Thanks I'm on the same path also is a big difference from 35s to 37s the gas needle move fast🤣 0lllllll0
how am i getting better gas mileage on 4.10 gears and 37s
I’m averaging 16MPGs on my 2021 JT with 37s ko2s
What speed you driving tho
@shivin1962 on this vid 70 mph
Just drove 500 mi and got 16.1 at 75 mph cruise set. Always sees 8th. Tazer is the key
Because 5.13. These are not for mpgs but torque and power.
Weird. I get 16.8mpg on 37x13.50 17 on stock rubicon 4.10 gears. All highway. City stop and go 13.8
Ya these 5.13s are almost too much for the freeway. On this vid I had huge heavy toyo mts 95 lbs ea... mileage was crap 😆
My current BFG KO2S are doing better. 4.10s are perfect
Dude you're going 2 mph over the speed limit. Of course they gonna pass your ass up. The troopers wont stop you until you doing 10mph over.
Definitely have that turd gasser engine.
I wouldn't haven't even considered a jeep if all they was that thing.
Right i feel like i need a V8 swap. I'm surprised my little motor can take the abuse!

I have 35 on a Tacoma idk if I should go 4.88 or 5.29
Shoot I don't know anything about Toyota 4x4s ! I'm like a fish outta water. I do know I'd love to have a Tacoma! They are incredible offroad
