Sometimes, I wonder what happened to the lyricist to make him/her write the words that must have explained a great hurt or emptiness in someone's soul at a difficult time in their lives. Once, Frank Sinatra said, (in part) and I quote him: "When you're sad, there's a song that does your crying for you and when the tension of daily life kind of ties knots in your spirit, why, a song can be a tranquilizer -- your quiet pill..." I think that says it all, very succinctly! Thank you for posting this nice selection of songs -- Frank Sinatra was simply the best there ever was or ever will be again. Listen to his recording of "You and me, we wanted it all" on RUclips! That is phenomenal!! Both of those songs tug at my heartstrings. He's gone now, but what he left for us to enjoy is out of this world. He is missed but we have his music to still love, (and relate to, if it fits what you're thinking or feeling, and it usually does at some point in your life).

In '92 in his early 70's, in a comp, had done New York and was on Let me Try, he got all thru the song to the big build at the end before the last word Again and he had a stroke and died, he was as fit as a fiddle and there was no warning, definitely His Way!
Another favorite of my husband's...even in his dementia, he adored this song and the only thing he regretted he said was he couldn't try again to bring back the love we had for 34 years to start all over again. We saw him sing this in person and it will always be special....Someday, we'll try again....together.

I was introduced to this song Friday night, I had the opportunity to see Paul Anka perform Friday at the Lynn Auditorium just outside Boston MA and he talked about writing this and then performed it. Great tune!
This song reminds me of my ex gf. We would lay in bed at her place and cuddle, talk, hold hands while listening to Frank Sinatra music into the wee hours of the morning. We were in love and after a year things feel apart I felt bad. Not the end of the world type situation. It's nearly been a year and I chose to be single this year to just try to.grow and focus on myself. Next year my plan is to start dating again.

This song is so indicative of Sinatra's life. Most people don't realize this song was written after Sinatra came out of retirement sometime in the seventies. Paul Anka nailed the essence of his retirement and return beautifully, with these words. My information suggests that Paul Anka and Sammy Cahn (sp?) wrote this song.
When this came out i was 17..grew up in 60's with him ma big fan .me into zep who tull yes elp etc etc .but was always into frank.this my fav oververall album saw him 4 times in 80's .carnegie hall..sammy had jus died b4 1 .buddy rich opened....frank .."the best" .
