- "Goodbye" was written by Gordon Jenkins in 1935. Frank Sinatra recorded the song for his 1958 Capitol album, Frank Sinatra Sings For Only The Lonely, arranged by Nelson Riddle and conducted by Felix Slatkin.
I'm 25 years old I grew up with my grandparents but they were teens of the 70s so Frank was before their time but they told me when they got older they respected his music i discovered Frank through RUclips at 14 in 2010 because at that time I also discovered Elvis Presley and I became a lifetime fan so I wanted to discover other music artists from the 50s and 60s Frank was one and Dean Martin was another one. Music artists today no longer sing from the heart anymore it's all about money not about their work we will never see music artists like Elvis Presley,Dean Martin,Frank Sinatra ever again in our lifetime it's sad that today's music is soo stupid i have to go back to the 70s 80s 60s 50s for good music and as time goes by it will only get worse in today's music industry but thank God in heaven for blessing these guys from a gone era with an amazing gift to sing and leaving all their music behind for future generations to hear.
No one can sing these types of songs as well as Sinatra.
The absolute epitome of human heartbreak set to majestic music, sung by the greatest ballad vocalist of all time, the masterful Francis Albert Sinatra. This album ( Only The Lonely) is probably the most devastating meditation on loneliness and despair ever recorded, but at the same time it is a monumental masterpiece, a great work of art, and contains arguably the greatest recorded male vocal performance for this genre of music period.
Nobody has ever sung better about acute loneliness, than Frank.
After 10,000 (probably more) hours of listening to Frank Sinatra, OTL is his finest work.
At the very end this was Sinatra's exit song. NO he didn't sing it but he left the stage with it being played by the orchestra..no vocal. For longtime fans who knew the song it was a killer moment.
This is such a underrated song the strings, the atmosphere, and Sinatra’s voice just makes this song so good such an underrated song and album
I cannot imagine anyone performing this song with deeper feeling especially at the. end.
Soothed my soul right when I needed. Break ups are terrible. This is why I should've married Frank when I was three and he was still alive 😭
A song like Goodbye by Gordon Jenkins could only have been written in America, yet it has the haunted quality of European romanticism.
I've been listening to this album since 1960, in all its iterations. Best music ever produced in any genre, IMHO.
Better to have been in love and lost rather than never been in love. Heartache and wisdom is the making of all of us. Thank you Frank and Van and Eretha for the soul. Cheers.
The ultimate sad song, sung by the master of sad songs, Mr. Sinatra!
Iam from India tamil nadu frank Sinatra is 🖤🖤🖤🖤 I can't imagine a day without him
When I was at high class restaurant I hear frank when I went to any beautiful place I hear frank ...No one like you frank you are some one very special, ,No one will be like you ever and never we will be always loves you
Let's say farewell with a sigh. GREAT LINE !!
An all-time great song and interpretation. Riddle's arrangement is timeless. Sinatra was born to sing these songs.
I'm a 90s kid and I love Sinatra. I discovered him through Spotify. The way I see it, if it was still all records/cassettes/CDs I never would have heard his music!
ohhh this is THAT song, oh man, this song is so powerful
This is one of my favorite Sinatra album. I've had it for years, but never studied the photograph until a few years ago -- it tells Frank's story at a certain time in his life but he got away from what it shows. But not without pain. That happens to all of us who lose someone we love, be it parents, family, spouse, lover, even a beloved pet. All of those losses hurt terribly but life wants to go on and usually does, time heals, but you never forget!
