I've played this game WAYY too many times, but it's one of my favorite. It's not anymore complicated than Soul Caliber or Tekken. It's closer to how Skull Girl works, and specials are usually any combination of "D" and an attack.
This actually helped alot. I was wondering why I couldn't do supers. I like how you have to actually enter a super mode, before you can use it. I definitely want to get into this game. I always felt that it was cooler than 10.5 and 12.3
That really helped out a lot, since I just started today and I didn't know what the hell to do stuff in some combo moves, so I searched for a tutorial and I found yours, and now I understand how to do stuff now, so thanks!
You showed me an excellent way to set up a tutorial video. Doing audio commentary is both less material to edit and easier for audience to follow. When I get to fix my comp, I'm going to have to change my future video so that they are like yours. 5 stars.
5 Stars ***** Professional, well presented, and scary. As someone who has never been to good at fighting games in general, all this technical speak is bewildering. I've never even considered the cancelling relations in the attacks. Just kind of press the button that comes to mind and hope it works. Against my norm competition I still win 90% of the time though. The video is a credit to the creator game. I've seen too many put IaMP/SWR down because they don't understand its differences.
For anyone who have a difficult time using spell card on keyboard, please do as order below 1. Down + Down + D 2. Down + Right + D or Down + Left + D ( dependent on your position) Note: D is a button use to dash in the game. If anybody still confuse, please check this video I made for easy understanding (no, it's not for viewership, I just want to help people find a way to enjoy this game) ruclips.net/video/hR5Gg44pFSA/видео.html
Has anyone here tried playing this on Windows 10? Fullscreen doesn't fit properly, even after installing the extension to switch from DirectX 8 to DirectX 9. Also Sakuya second story mode spellcard crashes the game when she stops time, but thats probably a different issue all together. (Of course the girl who can stop time crashes the game >_>)
Can't even beat Normal, Story OR Arcade. But then again, I can't beat Smash on Normal either, so *cries in corner* I see those fancy combos, and I'm like "O____O IS THIS EVEN THE SAME GAME I'M PLAYING"
***** Just the fighters for me lol :P I've 1cc'd most of the Window shooters on Lunatic (UFO included - ikr don't even get me started), but the fighters... THE FIGHTERS... QQQQQQQQQQQQQ
***** It took me a straight month of playing to get EoSD Normal 1cc with 5 lives iirc - Lunatic took me a year lol What about the fighters? I hear many ppl have better luck with them than the shooters, if only because the genre is more accessible.
This did not help me at all. BUT I respect his knowledge and skill of this hard ass game. maybe try to declare more about getting started at the game and how to use combo's.
Not to all, and the input is different for each character, though a few characters have a warping attack. Reimu has one, I think Yukari has one, Remilia has a very fast jump attack that might as well be a warp. There may be others, but I play mostly Marisa, so all I can say for sure is that she doesn't have this kind of attack. While you are playing, press the pause button. You will see a list of your character's special moves. If you have a warp, it will probably be one of these.
absolutely flawless. i had completely written this game off as a horrible button mashing fighting game aimed at school girls . and it doesn't look to be broken like MvC2, well nothing can be that broken, but i thought i would be underdeveloped in terms of balance. bravo, you have educated me.
This might sound stupid, but I just got this (english version) and I can't figure out how to even select something. :/ Like at the menu, I can move the select, but can't actually select and I've tried, like, every key.
@1337grenade Once you do 22D (ddD / down>down>D ), you do 236D ( qcfD / down>forward>D ) to do the spellcard. If you're using keyboard, you'll have to try to make sure that you kinda slide your fingers so that the down and forward are pressing at the same time sometime in between the down>forward motion (hence the 3 in 236).
How do you configure down-left, down-right ect.? because when I go to configure I can only chose the buttons for A,B,C,D,Left,Right,Down,Under. any help would be welcome.
Alright, now that I know what I'm doing it's time to get back in there and try to not get completely and utterly crushed by Youmu's freaking clone attack thingy.
@ThatDreamAgain I had that problem too. You need to find config and open it to change the controls to something on the keyboard. If you can't open config, right click on it and go to properties, then compatabilty and set it to Windows 2000.
Thank you so much. I've been having so much trouble with this. Hell, I didn't even know how to declare. But now I know. And knowing is half the battle! C-IR-NO! ... Wait, that's not right.
@1337grenade Okay, but what about zone and poking? There were a whole host of other terms that he used that I couldn't make heads or tails of. It'd be so helpful if there was a link to some kind of "Fighting Gamer's Glossary" or something.
alt + enter to switch window to fullscreen midgame, theres an option to start it in fullscreen from the config.exe, i think its the first checkbox on the right.
I don't know about that. If it's pausing elsewhere but not practice, only thing I can think of is you're just supposed to press esc there and nothing else?
@Kitsune557 No problem. If u like IaMP you should like the other touhou fighting games. The spell card system is MUCH simpler in those. Happy to help! XD
If you're curious as to the first song used, it's Kyoto Jazz Massive's "Eclipse." Does anyone know the other songs being used? I've definitely heard them before.
You don't have to, but if you don't want to go downloading it again (assuming you're going to not pay for it to get it), then it's nice to have it on a CD.
This is a great tutorial and all, but it there any way to get the game to recognise the number 3 on my number pad as "crouch forward" or do I have to put up with trying to hit 2 and 6 together? This one fact has left me in greater pain than any other flaw in the game (if you consider it a flaw).
well, in the past I've experienced crashing, but after getting the required dll files at google and installing the japanese language support it works totally fine.. also, as explained in the vid, do bombs by using 22+C. also, unlock characters by finishing story mode with different characters. difficulty doesn't matter.
***** 623 is tricky at first but you'll get it with practice. I use a stick so my advice won't help if you're on keyboard, but just let the stick go neutral after 6, then flick to the 2 and 3. After you get the basic motion slowly, you'll eventually be able to force it out a lot faster.
+Chris O You can do 623 with a keyboard, by just doing 626. The timing is really strict though. The wiki explains this better in the gameplay section :)
I tried to use spell cards by doing the down+down/front+front+D combo in the move list.... But it just wont do it no matter what i try. It fucking dashes each time. Can someone explain to me why it wont work.
640x480 is the only resolution thsi game supports natively, cowcaster has the option to upscale it and apply filters for it if you really dont like big pixels.
Im giving up , The mechanics of this game is honestly insane lmao.
I've played this game WAYY too many times, but it's one of my favorite. It's not anymore complicated than Soul Caliber or Tekken. It's closer to how Skull Girl works, and specials are usually any combination of "D" and an attack.
If it weren't difficult to play, it wouldn't be a Touhou game.
To anyone having issues with the pause button, change the key in your config, save it.
Then go back in game and press ESC again, it should work.
This was the highest quality mic on RUclips 15 years ago.

8years and still actual, you helped a lot ^^
"in this game you cant die from chip."
thank you!!!
Aw-some-ness! Incredibly well made video, must have taken quite some time. Clear, concise and damn good overall. Many internets to you, Sir.

I like how you used one of the most exciting attack harassment (if not, most) I've seen so far as the Introductory.
Has anyone here tried playing this on Windows 10?

Remove DirectX 8 to DirectX 9 files to avoid crashes. Then, play the game as normal screen. Finally, press alt+ Enter to play fullscreen.
محمد حكمي Ok, thanks. I had already found a solution. It was a program called borderless windowed, or something.
Your's sounds easier, though XP
That’s hilarious
great explanation. ive been looking forward to this vid for a while. great job guys
omg, tyvm ^^ i was getting so tired of the defaults, but again, ty. rly apreciate it
Great tute, props to Bell, Xeno, Sibla, and everyone who helped.
Very good, definitely helped me out since I was a devout player of the STG's and new to the fighting :) thanks.
fantastic explanation and basic tutorial!
Thank you! I've been having trouble playing this

***** As I said up there I'm horrible even with Smash Bros. lolol
@@Pakkens_Backyard
If you play this game at Lunatic level, the next touhou fighting game(SWR UNL AoCF) become lot easier.
421A or 421B or 421C does the warp step. A brings you backward, B brings you forward, and C brings you forward a lot.
Good video!
I finally learned how to use a spell card.
This did not help me at all. BUT I respect his knowledge and skill of this hard ass game. maybe try to declare more about getting started at the game and how to use combo's.

this was a really good tut. thanks.
great tutorial
Thanks a lot! This tutorial is great! I'll practice harder and challenge other players by netplay
Thank you so very much for taking the time to do this tutorial :].

i need help. i don't know why but it seems that i can't do the down-back or down-forward.

Three is just down and forward held together.
Thanks for the video, very helpful!
13 years anniversary
pretty neat good job
if that's how you feel your gonna love scarlet weather rhapture, touhou 12.3, and hopeless masquerade

What is the difference between an auto guard and a normal guard? You just hold back or down back to block, right?
How do you configure down-left, down-right ect.? because when I go to configure I can only chose the buttons for A,B,C,D,Left,Right,Down,Under.

Wait, that's not right.
I'm glad I found this, very well done tutorial my man! Let's hook up and NetPlay sometime!
Thank you! btw, does this apply to all characters?
@commode7x He translating the motion into keypad motions.
For example, (look at ur keypad) 6B means foward then B.
patchouli seems to be the most overpowered / easiest low skill character to win the story with, thats how I unlocked suika
Sakuya is also very good and fun to play IMO
How about a downloadable version for this? It would certainly make things easier to test out and learn.
omg, thanks for the tutorial *w* I really need it xD haha

I'm late to the party... thanks for this video man !
seems hard but looks extremely fun if you can master it
maybe that goes for any fighting game
yeah
make one for 10.5 or 12.3? this ones quite helpful
but they changed it up a little after this
anyway this helps thanks a lot
It already is somewhere.
Non-mainstream, where people like it.
@Rennnix did you set the compatibiliey tab to windows 2000 then it should open then try double-clicking on the config it should work
I don't know about that. If it's pausing elsewhere but not practice, only thing I can think of is you're just supposed to press esc there and nothing else?
fuck yeah it finally arrived
@Joedeluccio I _think_ if you turn off numlock, the numpad gets converted into the directional keys and the diagonals.
awesome
@Kitsune557 No problem. If u like IaMP you should like the other touhou fighting games. The spell card system is MUCH simpler in those.

that ZUN guy is the best solo game programmer I've ever known.
be on soon ;)
how can you set the butoon layout?
how do you acces that practice mode with infinite power bars?
This is a great tutorial and all, but it there any way to get the game to recognise the number 3 on my number pad as "crouch forward" or do I have to put up with trying to hit 2 and 6 together?
This one fact has left me in greater pain than any other flaw in the game (if you consider it a flaw).
if u read the menu
theres a selection : "practice mode"
if it isnt there, then somethings wrong with ur game

How can I use special moves with a keyboard?
how do you do a warp step, I've seen Sakuya do it several times
um, whats happening here?I press b and he hear a sound and after a few times pressing it A becomes a projective attack as well
did you configure your buttons with the config executable? mayube you have the same key for two different things...
623 anything is beyond me; how do you do it? Basic quarter-circles I can do, but...
***** 623 is tricky at first but you'll get it with practice. I use a stick so my advice won't help if you're on keyboard, but just let the stick go neutral after 6, then flick to the 2 and 3. After you get the basic motion slowly, you'll eventually be able to force it out a lot faster.

That's a damn Shoryuken ffs
the only buttons that work for me on the keyboard are Z, X, and C. (a, b, and c?) where is D when you first download?
Fracking jesus. This game has it's own proof of concept.
ummm... when I tried the game and played it are the characters suppose to crouch when you press 3 on the # pad?
my moving controls are: awsd.
how i perform your 1379.
and i cant open the config to change controls.
help me
ahh.. this is gonna take me awhile.
Does this game need to be played with the number pad, or can it be played with just the arrow keys? (My laptop doesn't have a number pad)
Where to download???
Using the download from the link in the description, the game opens up white as if it froze.
Might I be doing something wrong?
is it possible to play online without hamachi but with caster?
tnx alot man n.n
Do you have to download each patch in order? every time I download the 1.11 patch, it says the game has experienced a problem, and needs to close.
I tried to use spell cards by doing the down+down/front+front+D combo in the move list.... But it just wont do it no matter what i try. It fucking dashes each time.
Can someone explain to me why it wont work.

thank you, because this game has a cool plot, but too bad that the gameplay is sluggish and the controls are weird and hard to understand :(
@koerund Not possible. Down-left is just pressing down and left at the same time.
were can u get it
I HAVE A QUESTION SENSEI!! (or anyone who sees this) How do you use portals with Yukari? D:
i don't get it when you say "22 c" or "1 2 A" i always go back but i don't recall being an explanation about it
