This works for any laptop that will not power on. No lights, no sounds, seems dead.
Since this doesn't fix every problem and I get a lot of comments on this, I made another video that comes many other possible solutions. If this video doesn't help, you might want to check out this one • How to Fix any compute...

After 3 years of constant use I shut down my laptop one night, I came back from a truck route 2 days later and found no response from power. Unit was left plugged in.
I removed the battery and did the power purge as you said, i had to hold the chassis power 15 seconds and then got a board response. After no video I cycled again, booted.
Thank you very much, I would not have considered this as a procedure.
Thank you so much for your comment and especially the SuperThanks! I'm glad you found value here.
@@lakota2-1warden this isn’t the permanent fix tho, its a workaround!
Daniel, you're a star. Computer is working like a charm again, brilliant video. In my case, I only had to do the 60 sec thing (thanks for the comment that mentioned that) and that made the trick. Thanks so much!
Glad it helped! Thanks for the kind words.
Worked for me too! It was such a tiny hole and the icon above it was so small I would have never found if i didn’t know to look for it. Thank you. I found your solution pretty quickly so you saved me a lot of time, stress (I need my laptop working now for school), and money. It’s awesome how you reply to everyone’s questions with sound advice! Thank you!!!
Thanks so much for your kind words and glad it was helpful. I definitely will try to respond to every single comment/question. Unless it's something I don't think I should reply to.
You mean hole on the right side of the back cover?
And did you charged the laptop then turned it on?
Youre a lifesaver, the first one about unplug the power source 😭😭😭🙏🏻💕💕💕 THANK YOU SO MUCH! I APPRECIATE YOU!
Thank you so much for your kind words, and you're very welcome.
It worked! You’re the man. Thanks for posting this.
Awesome! Thanks for taking time to reply.
THANKS A BUNCH! I was worried because i just bought my laptop and it won’t turn on. The 60 seconds thing worked like a charm. I’m sooo happy! Thank you ❤️
You're welcome! That's great to hear.
Hey Daniel! Thank You, My Laptop turned on, However I didn't have to unscrew the laptop itself neither take out the battery, I just did the 60 second hold like you said and put in the charger, then it turned on and works fine! Appreciate it man, Thank You 😊👍🏼
Awesome! Sometimes that's all it needs, but sometimes it needs a little more.
@HafizAbdurRahmanSattar...that worked for me as well. I'm glad I saw ur comment, I wasn't about to unscrew anything. 😂🤣😅 Especially since my BestBuy warranty is still active.
Did not work for me, but the fact that you respond to so many and helped so many gets a like and sub from me. I can still hear the computer working and can even hear it boot up after I type my password, but the screen stays dark throughout. It initially turned off when I just tilted the screen back. It was very sensitive to having the screen moved. In fact if I get it to work again I'm not closing the screen or even touching the screen again. Not sure if that gives a clue as to what's wrong with it or not.
Thank you for your kind words, talking time to comment and your details definitely tell me what's wrong.
The issue is your screen. The cable or screen inverter is damaged. Your video cable is most likely getting pinched as you tilt the screen. I bet if you put a little pressure on different parts along the bottom of the screen you will notice the screen light up and go dark. That confirms where the issue is but I can pretty much guarantee you need a new screen which they normally come with a new inverter board and cable.
You could plug an external monitor in and you'll see everything working fine.
Followed your instructions exactly and this fixed the issue! Opened the thing up to upgrade the RAM, I was afraid I’d somehow toasted the motherboard or the RAM. Thank you!
You're welcome! I'm glad it worked for you.
i can’t believe that really worked, thank you so much !!!! 😭❤️🙏🏼
You're welcome
@@TwinBytesInc thank you man god 🙏
Worked great! I didn't have to remove the battery, just the 60second power button press did the trick. Thanks a bunch!
Excellent! You're welcome.
Did you jusy hold the power button and not take anything out?
Same here! Ty ty!
your comment helped while i opened this 23 seconds in and already fixed it just held power button for 10 seconds
Cannot thank you enough. Had the same problem, followed the steps and it worked!
I'm glad I could help. Taking time to comment and thumbs up is a great way to say thank you. :)
Thank you so much! My RAM controller went into protection and the laptop refused to start without a bios reset. I thought I'd have to completely disassemble it, but this video saved me
That's awesome! Glad to hear my video was helpful.
Thank you so much for this! It worked :)
Great to hear! You're welcome!
It worked like charm! Thanks a lot to save the day!!!
That's awesome! You're welcome.
My laptop is always different... Even tutorials with 95% succes rate always don't help and well, this didn't aswell, thank you anyways and I'm glad it worked for others.
Sorry this didn't work for you. It most likely isn't because it's different but because something else happened. if it's not a a power flush or new battery or new charger, it could be the DC jack or the motherboard needs reflow or repair. Some of these solutions may require a laptop repair expert. I hope you find resolution soon.
@@TwinBytesInc Yes an expert is gonna repair it. Hope it won't be much expensive.
@@tarnex Did you eventually get your laptop fixed? What was the issue for you?
@@amosfeldman9454 it was out of battery lmao, the cable was either broken or gotten so weak it couldnt charge the computer fast enough, I noticed in past month its charging very slowly, now im answering your comment from the same laptop and with a new charge cable
Thanks so much, went through at least 20 different tutorials before this one, which actually helped
Glad it helped! Thanks for taking time to comment.
Thank you, from Spain. You saved me from a painful situation.
You're welcome.
^^ Another satisfied viewer!
My MSI GE76 somehow turned itself on inside my backpack and I was convinced that it fried components because it was HOT!! I followed your instructions to reset the battery (without unplugging) and I'm back up and running!
❤ THANKS! ❤
That's awesome! One of my favorite comments.
Worked for me. Thought I was going to have to claim on the insurance until I saw this. Thanks!!
Great! Thanks for taking time to comment
Thank you so much buddy..!! This totally worked.😍😍

Dude it worked with the 60 second power trick you’re amazing
Awesome! Thanks!
Thanks a lot!!
Had it with Creator P75.
Did the 1 minute button hold and then let it recharge for a while.
*It didn’t go back up straight ahead, had to give it 15sec hold on power couple of times.
You're welcome. I'm glad it worked even though required more effort.
Thank you! worked like a charm!
Excellent! You're welcome!
Thank you, this worked and saved me from panic mode!❤
You're welcome. Glad it helped.
This save my day! It works! Thank youuuuu!
Awesome! You're welcome!
This method just worked for me ds why I subscribed to ur channel thanks👌 the issue now is that my laptop is making a strange sound
Thanks for the sub and glad I could help. That noise could be the root cause of the issue. You'd have to try to isolate the noise to see if it's the hard drive or a fan. You'd have to open the laptop up, remove the drive and check it externally and look at the fans if spinning freely. You might need a repair shop.
I followed your technique and it works fine. I solve the problem. Thanks you.
Glad it helped
You my good man deserve an award thank you ! :)
Wow, thanks!
Thank you so much, it worked for me
You're welcome! Glad to hear it worked for you

Thank you very much dude! Cheers!
You're welcome.
Wow I didnt think it would work, thanks mate
No problem 👍
Great worked for me. Thank you, just holding the power button 20 seconds. I was wondering why this black screen happened as it's good to know why?!
You're welcome. Glad it worked for you. Excellent question. the simplest answer I have is dirty power or issues with motherboard not allowing proper flow.
Thanks this helped a lot.
Glad it helped. Thanks for taking time to comment.
Thx!!! It worked like a charm!!!
Awesome! Thanks for your comment.
It helped me, thanks!
You're welcome. Glad it helped you.
Thank you very much after i upgraded the ram to 64gb the laptop msi gs75 wont turn on i thought ow no what is this.
Because i knew i did not do anything wrong.
Thanks this helped me alot.
You're welcome. Glad I was of help.
So great video. Thank you. Unfortunately did not work for me. Is it possible to flash the BIOS from a blank screen?
Thanks and sorry it didn't work. If you can't power up to get to the BIOS, you can't flash the BIOS. Also, flashing the BIOS won't fix that type of issue.
Merci beaucoup Daniel, vos astuces m'ont carrément sauvé d'un fort mauvais pas.
Aucun problème. Je suis heureux d'être utile.
Thank you for your effort
It works at first but now doesn’t work !!
Maybe Butter need to replace or what ?!
You're welcome. It sounds like maybe a bad charging port or general issue with the motherboard that needs to be reflowed. If you like the laptop and fast enough, it's worth it to get the motherboard repaired by your local repair shop.
My MSI GF75 died on me while at the library, first time in about three years. Tried disconnecting the battery and hooked the power up and it booted. Re-connected the battery and it appears all systems go for now. Thank you for this great tip!!!
Glad it worked for you. Thanks for taking time to comment.
I'm picking one up tomorrow with a power problem. I hope this is the fix. I'll keep you posted. Great video regardless if it worked for me
Worked for my msi laptop. Thanks.
Great! You're welcome.
It worked! thanks a lot man.
PC: msi gf63 thin 10sc
Excellent! You're welcome
Hi Daniel, your video help a lot, i have the same laptop (MSI GL62M 7RDX) i tried it but it still won't turn on, the light indicator in power button is off too. Can you help me what to do with it?? Thanks in advance
I'm glad you found the video helpful but if it still doesn't work. It's either you need a new battery, new power cord or motherboard repair.
Great video you save my life
Thank you for your kind words
Thankyou so much. It worked 🎉
You're welcome! Glad it worked for you.
I f'n LOVE YOU. Worked like a charm
You're welcome. Glad it worked.
What did you use to pry it open because don’t have a guitar pick so what should I use
@@Syntxnic You can use anything thin enough like a guitar pick and plastic. Ideally you don't want anything metal because it can short circuit something you might touch inside without knowing it.
Umm, wow, I didn’t think it would’ve worked 🤔 but it did. Thank you!
You're welcome
Thank you very much! I've had to do this twice on my wife's MSI - the second time I did it in 5 minutes or so. Any idea what causes this? I'd hate to have to do this every two or three months...
You're welcome. This is a problem if you have to do it every so often. That's a sign there's an issue with the motherboard. you could pay to have the motherboard repaired or replaced, or see how long you can string it along doing this simple fix every few months or so.
Thanks a lot sir
Most welcome
Thank you. That worked.
Excellent! You're welcome.
Thanks sir , u so help me
You're welcome. Glad to help.
My tears of joyfulness, thank you sir. 😭😭😭
You're welcome
This was very helpful and worked. I didnt need to open up the laptop. Unplugged the power cord, held down the power button for 60 seconds, replugged the power chord, waited a few seconds and pressed power button.
Cheers for your help.
Great! I'm glad to hear this.
Which model
I have a new msi gaming laptop and it’s less than a month old. Power cut out. Now it’s not turning on. I’m assuming this is a warranty covered problem since it was bought new. Would you recommend me trying this ? Or taking it to where I bought it.
I think this is what they would try anyway to send back to you after repairs. However, if you have to break any seals to get at the battery, I would advise against it because it would void your warranty.
Para mí en particular funcionó a la perfección. Nada más que decir, gracias por compartir!!!
Perfecto! De nada
Hello. May I ask what laptop this is in the video specifically?
And also, I’ve done what was instructed; but no luck, sadly.
Thanks, anyways.
Sorry I no longer have that laptop in my possession but it shouldn't mater. All makes/models can work with this trick. Although it's not a guaranteed fix, it works alot of the time.
Really glad. It worked on mine
Awesome! Thanks for taking time to write.
Hi, Daniel. Just want to know your quick opinion. My laptop is MSI GP66 Leopard and the battery was drained and won't turn on even when plugged. I followed this guideline and the laptop still dead. Is the issue lies on the power adapter? Sorry for my question, thank you.
Sounds like the next step is try a new power adapter. Maybe you can borrow one to confirm before buying. If that doesn't work, most likely needs motherboard repair.
thanks for the video, my MSI laptop turns on (power light on) but it doesnt boot up or show anything on the screen, and after a few seconds, the computer turns off... it happens sometimes, specially in cold days or when i take it to coldest places , what could it be?
thanks
That sounds a little strange. normally cold is good, not too cold but heat is a killer and make the fans work harder. Can't be overheating which is what it sounded like, but if in a cold environment it's worse? I don't think I heard of this before. Someone needs to look at it. Maybe it's just a coincidence about the temperature.
Mr Gauthier it doesn't work for me I have an msi gp73 it was shut down I thought it was a light cut off but no after that I tried to turn it on nothing it doesn't work I did I tooked restart the bios with the flash boton. I had a problem with the battery before sometimes charge and sometimes no but now it doesn't turn on at all and even putting the adapter the light of charging is not turning on. What should I do in this case please... I'm studying and working with the laptop every day I don't know what to do...
Thank you for your question. It's possible the charger is dead and needs replacing. If you can borrow someone's to try it and find out, maybe you just need to buy a new charger. If not, that maybe a motherboard repair that you require.
Thanks i will try it at home
Most welcome 😊
Same problem but did not work for me, my charger is/was putting out 30+ volts. Wondering if it is possible to repair for potential damage form over powering the system?
Great question. Yes you can certainly have too much power and cause damage. The adapter must be the correct voltage if you are buying a universal or else just buy the more expensive original that is meant for that laptop.
Sir help me, my laptop wont turn on I've tried tye process you have mentioned but its not working. I've tried also removing cmos battery and insert it again but not working again. Any idea? Thank you
Sorry, aside from this video instruction, you would need someone to look at it. Maybe motherboard needs repair or replacement.
I got MS-14DK with me, and I have the same problem but it didn't work. Although my keyboard has already problem because some keys don't work so well (Enter Key). I hope you can help me. Thanks a lot!
Thanks for your question. Sounds like could be related to your keyboard if the power button is embedded in there. There are many possible reasons for a computer problem, so it might be helpful to check out my latest video ruclips.net/video/BVwx6GruurU/видео.html which has some other hopefully useful suggestions
Hey, does this work with brand new laptops? I just got mine but it has the same problem and I want to know before I try anything
This can work with all makes and models of all years. It's not always the solution but certainly is something free you can try yourself before paying anyway. But if it's under warranty still, there is a chance that you could lose your warranty coverage opening the computer.
You are the man!!!! Thought I fried my laptop for good
Thanks for your kind words!
I have an MSI Laptop MS 1792 which I use for large panorama photo editing. I also have an Acer Predator for the same purpose, with 8K video output from HDMI port. I recently decided to remove the battery from the Predator and run it from the power supply which came with it. It runs fine. I use both laptops with large, external TV screens and have the laptop screens turned off. I disconnected the battery from the MSI laptop, and it ran for a while on the provided power supply. After several minutes, I got a low(12%) battery message. Since then, it will not turn on. Help!
Thanks for your comment. This is very odd and doesn't make sense. Not sure why you'd leave the battery out to begin with, but regardless, this doesn't make sense and I don't troubleshoot in chats. You'd need a local tech to look at it and determine what is wrong.
Thank you very much, it worked for me. But in my case I have to do it every day, is there a definitive solution? Why is this happening? Help 😢
You're welcome. if you have to do this several times, especially daily, that means there maybe some sort of issue with the power flow. May not be anything to do with the battery or power adapter. It maybe the motherboard that has some sort of issues that needs to be looked at.
Thanks man
You're welcome!
Ty man you saved my pc
You're welcome. That's great news!
hello, what size screw driver did you use? i have to purchase one in order to open my laptop and i don’t want to buy the wrong one
The type of screws seem to change sometimes from model to model and year to year but generally I use a standard phillips screw driver. The smaller of the two standard sizes that come in any set. I don't know the size number.
Hi Daniel, I tried what you did but unfortunately it did not work. I get no signs when I plug the charger or anything. I also have an msi similar to what you had and I was also using it completely fine the previous day. not sure what caused the issue. what do you think might be the problem?
if this video didn't help, chances are the motherboard is the problem and needs repair.
Het Daniel! My laptop recently did this, and now it’s done it again not even 2 days later. Is there an issue with the charger or the ram or something?
There's definitely something wrong but could be any of a number of things including what you are mentioning. If troubleshooting yourself, try with least expensive possible solution first and work your way up. Otherwise maybe cheaper to pay a tech who has all the parts to try swapping out with.
Hello. What if the laptop does this? Turns on and of several times and then it turns on at some point. It works fine and at some point when pressing the key for the mouse glitches, blocks and just stays like that until you reboot and it's back again to not working anymore and I do the same thing over and over. Thank you
Thanks for your question. Sounds like this video might fix it because sounds like power glitch. if this video doesn't fix it, maybe bad power adapter, bad battery or bad motherboard. One of which needs repair or replacement.
There is a small chance if software issue, you you can try booting into Safemode or from any bootable USB stick and see if it stays booted up into the USB or safe mode. If it does, then you know the issue is in Windows.
Hi, I have a MSI GF62 8RC, it wont power on from battery and when it does it turns off straight away, it works fine with battery removed and plugged in on charge. I have tried changing the battery for a brand new one and still the same. When I put it on standby it fully turns off unexpectedly and not in the shutdown way, it does this with battery and on charge. It will turn on with battery in and charger plugged and when the charger is removed the battery drains normally. When I turn it on with just the battery in and it powers off straight away the time is full reset in the bios. The laptop is only 3 years old and has been kept on charge all its life's by the previous owner. Any ideas? Could it be worth trying a new CMOS battery?
Thanks for your question. Sounds like a strange one. Doesn't hurt to replace the CMOS battery, they are cheap. Otherwise you tried a new battery already and doesn't sound like power cord issue. Something on the motherboard is an issue. CMOS battery is cheap easy fix if that works. otherwise you need someone to look at it.
I managed to get it to work by just unplugging the power source then holding the the power button (without having to unscrew and take out the battery) then after 60s plug power cable back and boot.... However, what is this issue? Is there something to be concerned about? Thanks!
Glad you got it working. This is usually something I see that is a one time thing and no major concerns for long term. But I believe if you see something repeat 3 times in a reasonably short period of time, there is cause for concern.
My laptop was issues with hardware from when I first bought it, I gave it many chances, but after a firmware upgrade came out, issues resolved.
I have exactly the same problem with other MSI model. However, laptop was a bit hot before it stopped working. Before draining the battery, did you experience the same? (I mean, the overheat)
This solution would be for bad power flow. The issue you have sounds like overheating which maybe the fans need to be cleaned out and especially from the heat sync. you might want to open it up and use compressed air to blow out all the fans and a little all over to get dust out.
My guy daniel🤝
Thank you
MSI GS66 Stealth laptop. I was charging my laptop, came back to it 2 hours later and it wouldn't turn on. I unplugged the charger and still nothing. I could hear static noise coming from the laptop where you plug in the charger. I came across your video and held down the power button for 60 seconds then I released it. I noticed the static noise went away right after. Waited a couple of seconds and pushed down on the power button and viola, it worked. Is there a problem with my laptop or charger? Thanks!
I'm glad you found this helpful. If this happened only once, it's just a temporary power glitch. if it happens again, maybe an underlying issue that needs troubleshooting.
Omg thank you so muchhhhh
You're welcome
Terimakasih untuk tips nya,, sangat berguna..
terima kasih kembali
Hello, so I have a MSI GF65 laptop and suddenly one day it crashed and turned off on me. Ever since that day the keyboard lights and fans turn on but the laptop doesn’t power on, my display screen is blank, and I don’t get a charging indicator.
I took it to get serviced and they told me the cmoss battery was dead so I replaced it and I’m still having the same issue.
I would appreciate any sort of help!
There is no way they can say that is the issue for sure without proving it. Since I don't see your computer I can't say for sure either, this video just gives recommendations on what fixes it many times. if this doesn't help, I could have almost guaranteed it's not the CMOS battery. I've never seen a CMOS battery cause this. it's something on the motherboard that maybe needs to be reflowed.
@@TwinBytesInc yeah I took it to a reputable repair shop and they’re almost sure it’s the motherboard but they don’t know what from it. I’ll find out Monday.
Sirr, I want to ask that my laptop is msi gf63 thin 9rcx, the problem is that he can't turn on the laptop without the help of a charger, but if the charger is unplugged after that, the normal laptop doesn't turn off, it's just that if you turn on the laptop at the beginning you have to be assisted with a charger, what's wrong 🙏🏻
That's very strange, I don't think I've seen that before. It sounds like there is something wrong with the battery that it can't have enough charge to boot the laptop, but it can hold a charge to keep it going after it is started. I am only guessing at this point, but sounds like the problem is the battery. If not the battery, it's a motherboard issue that needs repairing.
Hey man can you help me? Im MSI GL62M 7rd. Power button is lid but monitor keep blank.
Before that, I was doing monthly routine cleaning my laptop, and there was a button at the motherboard written SW3. Out of curiosity I pressed it. Then my laptop just blank forever (can't bios).
Tried your 60 sec trick still no work.
Help is appreciated, thanks
I don't know what would have happened now. Even I wouldn't have pressed that button. it's something you need to really know what it is before messing with it. It's some sort of interrupt button according to a quick Google search, but in most cases we never have to touch any buttons on the motherboard. You'll need to lookup this button in the user manual. Or take to your local expert.
Didn’t work for me did exactly as video said put it back together plugged in power and middle blue light came on in the front but pushed button to turn on and nothing left it plugged in checked on it later and the middle blue light was off and now it seems completely dead , is the battery completely dead is this why ? Will it turn on with just the power adapter if i leave the battery out on these msi models that have an internal battery
Sorry this fix doesn't work every time but most of the time. Definitely if you leave the battery out, you can try powering on with just the power cord to determine if the battery is an issue. if doesn't work still, maybe issue with motherboard needs repairs.
I have an MSI Laptop and its screen flicker. Some times it goes dark can barely see the pointer, during this flickering it flashes for less than a second goes dark again. some time its gets better. Not sure how to fix this problem? Any suggestions will help.
Thanks for your question. That sounds like a screen problem to me. Small chance it is a video cable issue, but most likely you need to replace your screen.
