In this video I bacteria test E-CLOTH to see how well they remove bacteria using sterile swabs and Petri dishes.
The E-Cloth was given to me by my viewer Katie. I did not purchase the E-Cloth.

Years ago I watched influencers telling me that I could use the same microfiber cloth on the toilet and then around the house. I’m not a scientist, but….🤢🤢🤮. They also smeared lipstick all over a mirror and supposedly cleaned it all off with a microfiber cloth. I’m back to my white bar cloths that I’ve used forever. I use them in place of paper towels.
OMG yes! I saw some that did the same. I was disgusted!!!! Toilet to kitchen counter same cloth!! WHY?!??!?! Who thinks that is a good idea!! WHY!??!?!? I love my white cloths as well!!!!! Thanks for watching!
Oh my... to say you went above and beyond for this one is an understatement!! Those results are disappointing for sure. Thank you so much for testing this and for your hard work and patience!! 💛
Thank you so much! I enjoyed testing ECloth!!! :) I appreciate your continued support!
Thanks for being truthful and backing it up with testings. I hate when Companies make claims that aren't true. Shame on them!!
I have to think that at some point they got 3rd party results that looked good. I just can't say that my in home testing yielded the same results. Disappointing one for sure!
Thank you so much for this video. Your truthfulness and diplomacy with that corporation is refreshing. I have a couple of these cloths but never use water only at any time.
@@doraperry1578 I am glad you are not using just water with them!!!!! You knew!
@@doraperry1578 I have these and only use water, but only on my windows. The multi purpose and glass cloths together do a really good job on windows, and I don't have to smell any glass cleaner lol
Im glad you did this test!! I woudnt ever buy e-cloth!!! the company outright lied!!! they just want to make you buy their product!! and it doesnt even work!!!
They must have had some laboratory testing that came back with good results. My testing is just real world in my home results. The claim must be based in some testing... I might keep testing to try to figure it out.. don't know yet. Thanks for watching!
Yes. Cotton cloths every time. Can be easily boiled or bleached and can be composted at the end of life. 😊👍
Agreed.. I just like cotton cloths. Thanks for watching!
Man, I am addicted to watching your videos! They are always so informative and interesting. Thank you for doing this.
I’m curious what would have happened if you have have used water and rinsed where you were wiping? I get that you were testing the ability of the cloth, but I also wouldn’t ever just take a dry cloth and wipe and expect bacteria to be gone. 🤷🏻♀️
Honestly I do not think a water rinse would do anything extra. I do try to test one method at a time, so we really can focus on the efficacy of that one product. I love testing products and appreciate your support!
Thank you for this video, the truth needs to be told.
I just share my results!
@@FieldOfFocus and I appreciate that fact
I am very interested in seeing any further testing results you get on this. Thanks Katy for this.
If I test E-cloth anymore, I will post the video here! Thanks!
You make Science fun!
Thank you for your continued support! This one was a doozy!
@@FieldOfFocus the toilet rim results were suprising. Maybe a comparison “rub” with a regular cotton rag or regular microfiber?
Your kids are lucky to have an in house Science Professor!
I certainly feel much better about using cleaning products that YOU have tested and shared the results with your followers.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. It helps me a lot.
Thank you so much for your kind words and continued support!! I love testing products!! 😊
Well, that’s disappointing! I was very skeptical about its ability to kill bacteria, just like all the microfiber mops making the same claims. The box of e- cloths I got were very specific to bathroom, window, stainless, etc, and even had a label to mark them. They all feel a little different. I do still love mine for cleaning glass, the shower, and for dusting. I’ve never bothered with the kitchen ones though, because I didn’t really trust them to kill bacteria. Thanks so much for taking the time to do this for us. I appreciate your efforts. ❤️
Interesting, thanks for sharing! I appreciate your support !
Thanks for making this video! I have been very skeptical of the E-cloth claims, so I'm glad to see your test. I wouldn't bother with the mop until you completely run out of ideas. Be well!
That is where I am torn, should I test the product on their site that has 3rd party results?? or just leave it alone. The norwex Mop did way better than the Norwex rags... so eh... I don't know..
@@FieldOfFocus if you have the Norway mop, the e-cloth mop pads fit right on it. I have always used cleaner with mine. I prefer them because they leave the surfaces dry (microfiber, I mean. I've started just buying some off of Amazon. and they seem to do just as well, and aren't nearly as expensive).
I wish you had did one more test with the polishing cloth. I would have liked to see if it would have done better on your drain using water.
Love your videos. 😊
I understand. Since they say in instructions to use it dry, I chose to not test it wet. Maybe in the future I will.. we'll see! Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this information! I bought ecloth once due to an influencer convincing her viewers to do so. I agree, microfibre is weird. Just stick to cotton and use the appropriate cleaning solution with it. Stay away from marketers that make such outlandish claims!
I really thought that the mechanical cleaning would remove some bacteria.. this was a tough one.
I can tell just from the sound they made that the texture of those things would make my skin crawl.. thats an immediate no for me even without the fact that they dont do what they claim.. super fun use of science though! Youve got a new follower for sure
Microfiber is most certainly not my favorite texture either! Thanks for watching and for your support!
Honestly, I've always felt like a lot of product claims for products whose end consumer is mostly women are bogus. This shampoo is going to make my hair 10% stronger, this nail polish will make my nails 15% stronger, like they just claim whatever. Thanks for doing this testing!
Oh I agree so much with this!!!!!!!!!!!
I am glad to find your channel. I'm a germaphobe, so anything that talks about bacteria interests me, especially when it comes to my home. I'm also not a big fan of microfiber cloths, but a while ago I found some cheap ones similar to cotton and decided to try them. It turns out that now I don't want anything else to clean the surfaces than those cloths, but those one in particular, not just anyone, because not only does the dirt come off well when the cloth is washed (no rubbish gets stuck) but it leaves the surfaces almost dry. I think sometimes it's a matter of luck to get the right product. Although what pleases me may not please others.
As for cloths that remove bacteria, just with water, honestly I didn't even need to test them, you can tell straight away that it's bullshit ;)
I wash my cloth with soap everytime after use and hang it in the sink. I change it every week, wash the used one with soap and put it in bleach for half an hour, rinse well with clean water and once dry, iron it and store it. So far I haven't found a better way to kill bacteria than bleach, but I'll watch all your videos, I'm curious.
I am so glad you found my channel! I am happy you have found a brand of cloth that you like to use. I do have a laundry playlist, on that I test some laundry sanitizers, and just tide pods for removing bacteria from my cleaning cloths, you might enjoy it!

@HiroshimaMSCan you share a link to the Amazon product page for these cotton-like cloths you are using?TIA

Thank you for testing the e-cloth. I was always a little skeptical about them. Love your videos!
I try to be hopeful with each product I test. Most don't do as terribly but it is what it is. thanks for watching!
Honestly, I appreciate you going back and using the polishing cloth to test that, however the assumption on the instructions is that it will be used on a surface you've already wiped down with the other cloth (since you "finish" with it,) meaning the surface would still be wet. Going at it with both the glass/finishing cloth and the surface dry is not strictly following the directions and will presumably make it less effective.
However, I was really frustrated with the generic responses you got when you reached out. You asked a simple question, and they threw a bunch of marketing rhetoric at you without addressing your question at all. I get that the person responding to those emails has a script and they are sort of the first line of customer support, so may not even have the knowledge you were looking for, but it's still frustrating. It's also really disingenuous of them to make all these claims without specifying that only two of their products have been tested (at least, only two have had good results,) because many people will just assume it's the generic, multi-purpose cloth.
I understand your point. Honestly, I cannot believe that real world cleaning anyone would be using the general cloth with water, then polishing toilets, sinks etc anyway. I agree about the generic answers. That is why I shared the emails, I wanted the viewers to see that I tried to get some straightforward answers. I would have tested other products if they told me which products where tested. I have to hope that at some point some lab got those 99% results before making that claim.
Fofy, you did a great job of showing us how they didn't work. Pass on the Ecloth....✌
Thanks. I might do some more testing but just not happy with this one!
Can you imagine how many people/families have been sickened due to their thinking that there cleaning method was actually effective due to false advertising? I think a class action is in order folks.
I am hoping that is not the case. I think we would have heard about it by now if people were actively getting sick. Also hope that they have lab results that got that great 99% results, but it just wasn't akin to real world usage. I feel it is irresponsible to make claims. Now it makes we wonder if I can find more products that have similar claims.
Thank you for testing and sharing this! I’ve been using E-CLOTH products for years, and always wondered whether or not the claims were true. For this reason, other than on glass and mirrors, I always use a cleaning product with them.
I do have the mop; and can email you the dimensions if you’re still considering testing it.
I think they are fine to use with a product, no worries there! But just water is a hard no for me. YES please email me FIELD.OF.FOCUSYT@gmail.com
thank you!!!!
I want to start with I’m a skeptic with these “just add water” claims. However e cloth is great for cleaning window and mirrors and that’s what I care about. I think it’s worth mentioning that we’ve heard people don’t need antibacterial soap to wash hands and that’s because the act(the mechanics) of washing hand with water makes germs come off the hands. I think we should adjust our expectations of these claims. I like using e cloths to clean with but i also use multipurpose cleaner. In fact the only one I use without cleaner is glass. I use hot water with the window rag and dry polish. Windex makes me sneeze so it’s been a good alternative and I haven’t had to buy another one in five years. So yeah I think their quality is decent.
So yeah you’re getting a fairly expensive cloth. It doesn’t kill all bacteria. It doesn’t kill bacteria at all. Just moves it. But they work great with multipurpose cleaner too.
I liked this video. Thanks for posting. I’m following now!
So with the mechanics of hand washing, the soap is really doing the job of "carry germs away" more so than the physical rubbing of hands. Doesn't have to be antibacterial soap, just soap. I use my Norwex window cloth and water to clean my mirrors it does a fine job! Thanks for watching!
@@FieldOfFocus you are so welcome. I like your videos. I’m an amateur microscopist and I love these kind of tests. Real world tests to see if things work. I also really appreciate your video on cleaning the shower. I have chronic back issues and it’s also hard for me to scrub for long periods. Thank you so much for sharing.
I am so glad you are enjoying my videos! Thank you for your support!
Hmm Evan Mendes has a sponge she helped developed being sold with a cleaning company. Her sponge is supposed to change colors to remind you to throw it away. I cannot remember if its biodegradable but would be curoius if you tested it. I liked the concept although I rarely use sponges.
Interesting. I will add that to my list. I haven't heard of that yet! Thanks!
I love watching your videos! Would you mind doing a video with Ocean's Pine Oil?
I will add Ocean's Pine Oil to my viewer suggestion list! Thank you so much for watching!
You should do ingredient testing to see if they actually contain those ingredients 🤔🤗
I have no way of testing what the fabric actually is, sorry about that!
I have the e cloth kitchen wiz and also the kitchen cleaning cloth with the little scrubby on the corner. Not sure I really believed the claims made but just liked the way they felt. Any bacteria tests I’ve seen with similar cloths, eg norwex, do the clean chicken juice removal from the kitchen bench. So slap some chicken on the bench, then wipe bench with cloth then test. As for the polishing cloth that supposed to be used to wipe a mirror/window, stove top or chrome tap fitting to create a streak free shine after using the general cleaning cloths. I don’t feel so guilty now when I’ve used them with product I’ve purchased before. Thanks for all your hard work, really enjoy your channel. Regards Lesley.
Right, so I test real world situations. I do not inoculate a surface, I test what bacteria is normally in a home in those areas. I am not a fan of the Norwex protein swab test. My petri dish tests can show bacteria on a surface before and after using a product (I test many many many products!). I have not used the protein swabs but I have seen them in videos. I did read the 3M product paperwork and it says "The 3M™ Clean-Trace™ Surface Protein Plus Test is a single-use device that detects protein from food residues and other sources. The 3M Clean-Trace Surface Protein Plus Test can also detect other reducing substances present in food residues...... . The 3M Clean-Trace Surface Protein Plus Test is not intended as a microbiological monitoring tool but may detect bacteria in excess of 107cfu/test." That is just one type that I found from a quick search... So I am not going to use a protein test for bacteria evidence.
I hate that this company is getting away with essentially making fraudulent and confusing claims about their products. I do wonder if using the two clothes back to back in the way the instructions provided describe would make a difference. But even then it would contradict the claims on their website.
I am hoping that the 3rd party tests had some extra pressing scrubbing machines that used strong mechanical cleaning, I really like to hope 3rd party didn't screw it up. So my husband said the same, I should test wiping with general then finishing with dry. I considered it for the second test, but I cannot imagine people are actually going to use both cloths to wipe toilets, sinks etc. I try to test real world situations. I might go back and test that again.. undecided!
@@FieldOfFocus understandable, most people will only use one cloth most likely
That thumbnail ! Shocking 😅
HA! I think the part I dislike the most about creating, is the thumbnail and my face! HA HA HA! I couldn't give a cheesy smile with this one!
Round One: 👩🔬 vs 💸
HA! The best comment! HA! This was a good one!
Are you going to launder the blue polishing cloth then do a test using that WET on the areas you tested here today? Once those results are in then it would be useful info for the rest of us (holding our blue polishing cloths and wondering if we ought to run then under the faucet..) TIA
I haven't decided yet. Considering the directions state to use dry, I am just unsure. Thanks for watching.
I would like to know if there are any products where the result is outstanding especially at your kitchen sink drain because I find it really strange that the dry cloth had such different success at the drain versus the toulet rim...
Maybe it's not about the cloth but about the drain, it's shape or so?
Hi there! I have absolutely had products that I have tested that remove all of the bacteria in my kitchen sink including 409, Force of Nature, Bleach, Windex Multi-surface Disinfectant, and Mrs Meyers almost removed all of the bacteria. There are others, but those are the ones that I remember without re-watching.
That company has no clue about their product lol
I don't know what to think. I HOPE they got 99% bacteria removal results for some lab test. Thanks for watching!
scammers... BUSTED!!!
I would hope that some of their lab testing yielded good results and just a real world situation is different. Use with a cleaner, sanitizer, or disinfectant!
Exposed! The proof the buying public deserves. Some companies likely just had some technology lying around that could be turned into a product for profit, if even that. Wouldn't be surprised if many brands selling microfibre are simply different wrappings for the same base material, maybe even produced by the same factories, just with trademarked branding. There are a few exceptions with actual differing properties, some of the professional-use cloths for hospitals for example.
Most testing these companies or 'independent' third parties conduct is a marketing stunt, the hint being the claim they remove UP TO 99% of TESTED bacteria. Technically, this can be sprinkling a tiny amount of chosen bacteria onto already sterile surface, immediately use brand new product and, if any tiny section of the surface has removed 99%, they can make the claim. They could otherwise just manipulate the results. Again, I'm sure some companies take it seriously, but I'd wager a guess not more than one-two handfuls globally.
That's why real-world testing as done by you, is the only way to assess the actual performance, in environments people actually use them, which is what these companies should have started with when developing the products.
Excellent points! I agree that they must have had some testing that showed the 99% results in order to put it there. My kitchen sink (not the drain) result was good. If I stopped there, then I would say they do alright. I really do try to test how people use products in a home with real bacteria from a home. I appreciate your support!
Ugh- have given both the clothes and mop to four different brides at their showers over the few years (it was on their wish list) I would have picked something else off the registry
Well, how would you know? We trust what is on the packaging. I just test these products in my home to see if their lab tested match my real world in a real home results. Most are fairly accurate, however once in a while we get a product that isn't!
Can you test dollar store bleach?
I will add it to my viewer suggestion list!
