Me too, but sometimes I feel that Rebel vibe too, and I can find Obligers and Upholders annoying as hell if they are too uptight or worry wart, micromanager/ co-worker police types. I'll do it, buy only if it suits my plans and goals, don't like busy work, but there again, will do it if it suits my plans....I do like to gather data and I do like to find loopholes if needed, ad well as effective shortcuts. Needless to say, Upholders and Obligators get annoyed with me sometimes. They think I am "overthinking" things or being too needy for information. The Rebel in me says "F-you...as long as I'm succeeding at tasks I WANT TO DO my own way, then mind your own business" ...lol...Yes. I have issues with Obligers, but know alot of awesome people who are in fact Obligers at wk and let's be honest, even though we can annoy eachother when crap hits the fan and protocols can fix it it's usually the Upholders and Obligers extension we hit first. I wouldn't say it's a mix, except in cases like, say, an Obliger is often thinking of other ways he/she can do something (Questioner tendency); Rubin made this system pretty straightforward.
I’m definitely a questioner. For example, I’m taking organic chemistry this semester and I’m trying to learn exactly how to study for it. I’ve been watching your videos about how to actively study, and trying to absorb and learn the most efficient way to learn and succeed. Regardless of how difficult this class may be, that doesn’t stop me from wanting to learn exactly how I can be efficient and succeed.
This video is okay, in my opinion. I think you focused too much on determining the type-which can be figured out in 2 mins using the quiz in the description-and not enough on detailed, utilitarian methods to improve based on personality type. I think that, generally, your videos are the opposite.
I got Obliger, but also fit very well into the category of Questioner, so I think this has the most value to me by saying I am a mix between the two. Most of all, I am just terrified of commitments and meeting expectations and have developed a very mean inner voice towards myself over the years which results in a tendency to self-sabotage and that's why I'm sitting here watching this video instead of studying. Only the faintest hope of freeing myself from my personal hell and growing out of the toxic traits of my personality, keeps me going. And I WILL get there!
Got Upholder and it's scarily accurate. I love having a routine and when something disrupts it, I go on with life but it feels wrong. I adapt well, but it's really difficult for me to shift things around when I didn't originally want/plan it that way...
I'm a rebel. I struggle a lot with deadlines and forcing myself to do something. But when, I just chill and don't pressure myself, I suddenly start becoming productive. Also, another real factor that helps me grind is when people think that something is hard and a lot of people fail in doing it, I always feel challenged not to be "one of those people" who failed because I love excluding myself and thinking I'm just like the other people.
I'm also a Rebel. But I often doubt myself because of my procrastination, but seeing all of the Rebels accomplish great heights, I feel good and I feel that I can do my best.
I got questioner. I can totally agree with that but I've been moving closer between being a questioner and an upholder. Used to be an extreme questioner. As an opinion, I see having both the Upholder and the Questioner as a good combination for me. It gives me enough flexibility to change while being determined in a good habit. But if you do, rest assured, your life will only get better now and you yourself have changed for the better. With Covid-19 I can't believe how much I have changed and I feel that I finally am working towards my dreams
I'm a questioner, and I clicked on this video because I wanted as much information on how to change my nature as possible before deciding for a course of action. I took notes, then merged the information back into the giant mindmap I created to model human physiology (especially mine) to find out what I should do and not forget all the stuff I see on this topic. Edit: I just realized that the mindmap I created is a GIGANTIC manifestation of analysis paralysis. But how do I make myself follow a course of action if I cannot convince myself that it is worth following (because doing so would take forever)?
I am a psychology student, and I think you could model these different behavioral tendencies using the big 5 personality model. For example, the rebel would be low agreeableness, the obliger would be high Agreeableness
I'm a big questionner haha. I relate soo much to analysis paralysis and when you said that you can even find a rationale to not keep with a good habit haha. Thank you for making me conscious about this !
I'm an obliger and right now I'm deep into obliger-rebellion. I spent all day trying to figure out what's wrong with me, to the point I considered I'm faking my depressive feelings to have an excuse to be lazy. Thank you for helping me to understand myself better.
According to the test i'm an obliger. Self i recognize myself more as a questioner. From the product buying research, both big purchases as simple grocery shopping. I also have the "either the best or nothing" attitude that holds be back at times.
I don't like The Four Tendencies model because it is unsupported by science. Also Gretchen Rubin has no qualifications that I know of other than being a writer. I agree with the essence of the idea though, knowing how your personality works is essential to becoming successful.
I don't think questioning the existence of something that has no evidence other than an author (who has no background in psychology) saying they exist is as much a personality trait than common sense.
I'm a questioner. I got so much tired from deadlines and homeworks last week and I was very, very stressed. Especially, I have so much analysis-paralysis that I'm afraid of failure when doing Physics sums. Perfectionism is a major quality.
Most definitely a Questioner. Definitely explains why my grades were quite bad until I changed my program to something I felt to be more meaningful and worthwhile. Also why I COULD NOT get along with my last boss. Her rules made no sense and when I'd ask why we were doing something the way we were, she'd say, because that's what we're doing and I said so. I feel like it must be very important for questioners to do work they believe has value and meaning. I don't know what I'd do if I were stuck in a job doing work I didn't believe in.
I think the four types correclate to what judging function you use in mbti /cognitive functions. Upholders = Te users Questioners = Ti users Obligers = Fe users Rebels = Fi users
I was wondering about this too, but it doesn't line up for me personally. I'm an INTJ and an obliger but I know a couple Ti people who are flaming questioners so there could be a correlation.
At first I thought I was a questioner, then an obliger, but none of them really fit in and so, my final result was rebel. Which makes perfect sense! Time to dive deeper 👏👏
Very interesting. I can see family members clearly described in each personality tendency. I feel like cultural and experiences in my family upbringing and school made me become an obliger. But it feels awful sometimes to strive to meet everybody's expectations when failing to meet own personal goals you want so hard. You feel bad about that being a little perfectionist and not fulfilling your own stuff, and when you rebel a little bit about too much imposed on us, there is sense of guilt that comes about having failed to others. It's not a nice thing to have a tendency to be like people-pleasing, even when you know others may be wrong. We need to learn to set boundaries, obligers.
Rebel. I resonate a lot with it. I always hated people telling me what to do and I despise deadlines. Anything that feels like it has to be done at all or by a certain time/in a certain way feels so restraining to me, which is really holding me back sometimes. While I'll do things out of spite, no problem. Ugh
All 4 tendencies can be explained through the Big Five personality traits. Upholder is high in thread conscientiousness and neuroticism, fairly high in thread openness to experience. Questioner is very high in thread openness to experience and he is not high in thread agreeableness (so whatever from medium to bottom). Obliger is NOT low in conscientiousness, neuroticism and agreeableness. Rebel is very low in agreeableness. I am a questioner so i know. ;)
I think it can also be explained by MBTI or Myers Briggs... maybe idk all I know if for my type.. I'm a Rebel, INFP and type 4w3... I love these things cuz I rrly wanna get to know myself but once its accurate for me I dont rrly care if anyone else says if its accurate or not 😂😂😂
It’s more related to the cognitive functions of mbti. I can see that each of the four types are directly related to these cognitive functions: Upholders = Te users Questioners = Ti users Obligers = Fe users Rebels = Fi users
I got questioner. I realized that as I took the test and then went over the results that I had to explain to myself why it was asking what it was and how the handful of questions contributed to the overall results so that I could accept them. I have never taken a personality quiz that I felt was so accurate and now I am sending it and this video to friends and family.
R E B E L Yes, nobody believed in me- Every one thought of me as an just girl who is reckless and is distractive But my rebel tendency led me to be in TOP 3 in my class and I actually did it by minimal efforts
maybe if you identify as an obliger but got a rebel, you took the test just in that "Obliger rebellion" phase. At least, that's my hypothesis, because that's my situation as well
I'm mostly a rebel but an stern obliger too sometimes because I liked my gf a lot and her parents didn't like the idea of a relationship so she just asked me to break up and I keep my promises above my life so, yeah it's been a year, I bet she still likes me too because she was the one who had a crush on me 😂😂😂😂 I got a BIG crush on her when I got to know her 😂😂😂
I have taken the 4 tendencies quiz twice. First time, it said I was a rebel. Plausible. But I took it again and tested as a Questioner - which makes perfect sense. Some of the tips brought out for questioners I have already been doing in some capacity -- just now I am able to see the connection to my study life.
I got rebel. And that explains a lot. I never liked to bind myself in any level, even if it was for personal reasons. Unfortunately, this leads to sabotage me a lot of times during life. And why? Because everytime that I founded something that I really liked to do, I usually go foward to it... Until someone notice that, and starts to encourage me. It happened at least three times, on professional field, where someone gave me opportunities and I always just lost the interest in that thing and screwed up everything. I never understood why I was like that. But now it makes more sense, and I am glad to found this. Its good to know our weakness and now I can work from there.
I think, like most, I am a mix of at least two tendencies. Upholder (discipline) and Obliger (accountability) for sure with a hint of questioner (logic). Inner expectations are so hard to resist. Thanks this is great info
Questioner here. I just realized how much I question things. I've been thinking too much of a *topic* for my science project. I'm questioning what's best for the science project.
Yes! It depends on the environment that you are in, i guess. Like when I was in eight grade I was an upholder then as I grew older i switch between questioner and rebel lmao
I was on an obliger rebellious phase last semester too. It was so hard to comply with all the pressure in college to the point that i dont go to some of my classes anymore bec of anxiety. But what helped me get through that phase was self expression. I started drawing and writing. I realized that i just needed an outlet. I started to talk to a friend too about my struggles. Do not keep your emotions to yourself. Cry when you need too ;-; (also it may be out of the topic/shameless promo but... try watching Stray Kids' music videos. They helped me get through that phase. They make really inspiring music. I recommend Grow Up and Mixtape#2. Turn on english cc too. I swear you wont regret it :) Take care! )
I’m a questioner, probably with a sprinkle of rebel as well. I like to have many sources of motivation for me to get things done, things like habit tracking or rationalising why I should do the task, or a good example to emulate or a bad example to distance myself from. I find it the easiest to get things done when I know my methods have been optimised to give me a high yield, and I have something clear, and worthwhile to work towards.
This is great!!! Rebel lol Everyone telling me I'm too old for med school, to finish to switch careers. It's only fueling my passion. Really funny everyone saying the right way to study is at a desk. I do it meditating, sleeping and lying in bed when I wake up, dancing. People the best way to understand concepts is general to hard. I learn the overall concept first , most complicated then backward to basic. I only non conform at work when I know I'm getting taken advantage of, I'll do it better and my way to help people better. Example you can't do trigger point therapy, you have to charge for every modality. I know they are paying me too less and overcharging people so I don't charge them extra just because. This all makes sense now!! I'm def going to take this course!
Me when I saw this video in my recommendations: Wait a sec! They're telling us our personality based on our hogwarts houses?! Me at the end of the video: Ok. I was wrong. But atleast there was hermione...? This is actually a good video, though.😂😂
I an a Rebel. I always do things that people say I cannot do.. I've always proved that and I'll keep proving it in the future as well. And I do resist doing things untill it is proven to me by myself or by someone else that it is a good thing to be done..Of course, I need to work on the weakness which is totally true🙈🙈🙈
i think im a combo of an obliger and an upholder because im ok with both expectations but outer ones definitely come easier to me and make me feel more structured with my scheduling and time
I’m 100% a questioner. I always look up different exercises to best fit me and every product I buy I do (too much) research on each. Also, the Rocketbook Notebook on Amazon is pretty useful.
Rebel: -independent and deeply empathetic -restless energy channeled towards work -routines are main area of focus and success. Nailed routine equals happy time poutines - resistance through success. Rebellious liberality allows unique interpretations and insights
As a questioner, I've tested out this thing. I've noticed that if I set my intentions/ to-dos/ goals the night before, I just glide into my studies the next morning. Also, I get sleep answers, so if I set my intentions the night before, I think about them all night. Questioner= be intentional!

I took the quiz before watching the video. It says I am a Questioner. And it describes me accurately. My mind is blown!
Why am I not surprised at getting
“Obliger”
I got questioner and after reading the overview on the website, I realised how accurate it was
Never in my life I thought I'd be a rebel. But then I checked your video and it made sense. Also recently, I've found my calling. Now WATCH ME.
I'm an obliger and right now I'm deep into obliger-rebellion. I spent all day trying to figure out what's wrong with me, to the point I considered I'm faking my depressive feelings to have an excuse to be lazy. Thank you for helping me to understand myself better.
I did the quizz and got Questioner, which I can definitely acknowledge, but I have most Upholder traits as well, so I guess I'm a mix of both
as a questioner, your study tips were just what i needed to hear right now to get myself back into work, thank you so much!
According to the test i'm an obliger. Self i recognize myself more as a questioner. From the product buying research, both big purchases as simple grocery shopping. I also have the "either the best or nothing" attitude that holds be back at times.
I just feel like I’m not good at getting good grades anymore:’( and ur grades & everything u do is perfect Dr.Jubal u really are goals
Already knew I was an obliger, took the test, and I still am.
Upholder, I decided to watch one of your videos everyday in my spare time, they're extremely useful and well made.
I don't like The Four Tendencies model because it is unsupported by science. Also Gretchen Rubin has no qualifications that I know of other than being a writer. I agree with the essence of the idea though, knowing how your personality works is essential to becoming successful.
Not Squirrel questioner or rebel
I don't think questioning the existence of something that has no evidence other than an author (who has no background in psychology) saying they exist is as much a personality trait than common sense.
Definite questioner.
You’re a questioner bro. Or a Scientologist. Or an atheist. Or vegan.. one of those..
That's fair but law still has little to do with the topics she writes about.
I'm a questioner. I got so much tired from deadlines and homeworks last week and I was very, very stressed. Especially, I have so much analysis-paralysis that I'm afraid of failure when doing Physics sums. Perfectionism is a major quality.
Rebel, rip
Vulvatr0n420 same I’m doomed
Same...
Being rebel kinda sucks
Bet u won't get passing grade on the next test. Disagree? Prove me wrong then
Same :(
Most definitely a Questioner.
Upholders = Te users
Questioners = Ti users
Obligers = Fe users
Rebels = Fi users
I honestly feel like I’m an equal mix of the first three.... will take the test and see which one prevails
Te (xxTJ) & Si (xSxJ): Upholding
Fe (xxFJ): Obliging
Fi (xxFP), Se (xSxP), Ne (xNxP): Rebelling
Ti (xxTP) & Ni (xNxJ): Questioning
Well i am xxFJ but included Questioning
I am a questioner so i know. ;)
I'm also a questioner, but those are very low for me in the Big 5
I think it can also be explained by MBTI or Myers Briggs... maybe idk all I know if for my type.. I'm a Rebel, INFP and type 4w3... I love these things cuz I rrly wanna get to know myself but once its accurate for me I dont rrly care if anyone else says if its accurate or not 😂😂😂
I'm a rebel but I score high in agreeableness. Something tells me it's more complicated.
Is there a good book or other resource on the Big Five? I am struggling to find anything past the basic definitions
It’s more related to the cognitive functions of mbti. I can see that each of the four types are directly related to these cognitive functions:
Upholders = Te users
Questioners = Ti users
Obligers = Fe users
Rebels = Fi users
I am an upholder. Make a lot of sense why I look and read the textbooks so much and doing all the work in group projects. At least I know now.
This video was SUPER informative......Great job doctor!! Also, I'm an upholder.
Oooooooo up holder wow. I wish I was an upholder
I got questioner. I realized that as I took the test and then went over the results that I had to explain to myself why it was asking what it was and how the handful of questions contributed to the overall results so that I could accept them. I have never taken a personality quiz that I felt was so accurate and now I am sending it and this video to friends and family.
R E B E L
Yes, nobody believed in me-
Every one thought of me as an just girl who is reckless and is distractive
But my rebel tendency led me to be in TOP 3 in my class and I actually did it by minimal efforts
I feel ya
I got Questioner. It fits me perfectly, I am constantly asking: Why should I do this? What is the purpose of doing this? etc.
According to the quiz, I'm a rebel, however I believe Im somewhere between an obliger and a rebel.
You sound like a questioner
maybe if you identify as an obliger but got a rebel, you took the test just in that "Obliger rebellion" phase. At least, that's my hypothesis, because that's my situation as well
I'm mostly a rebel but an stern obliger too sometimes because I liked my gf a lot and her parents didn't like the idea of a relationship so she just asked me to break up and I keep my promises above my life so, yeah it's been a year, I bet she still likes me too because she was the one who had a crush on me 😂😂😂😂 I got a BIG crush on her when I got to know her 😂😂😂
I'm an upholder, and I TOTALLY agree :)
Thank you for this!
I am going to join med school this august!
Jervis Gamer may god have mercy on your soul 😂
Nali Alm lol ikr
I have taken the 4 tendencies quiz twice. First time, it said I was a rebel. Plausible. But I took it again and tested as a Questioner - which makes perfect sense. Some of the tips brought out for questioners I have already been doing in some capacity -- just now I am able to see the connection to my study life.
Me: thought I would get rebel, but I got questioner??
Also me: *questions my results, does a bunch of research on the tendencies* oh...
I also feel like an amalgamation of these two, roughly
I'm kinda all 4 but i'm mostly rebel and very little obliger
I got rebel. And that explains a lot. I never liked to bind myself in any level, even if it was for personal reasons. Unfortunately, this leads to sabotage me a lot of times during life. And why? Because everytime that I founded something that I really liked to do, I usually go foward to it... Until someone notice that, and starts to encourage me. It happened at least three times, on professional field, where someone gave me opportunities and I always just lost the interest in that thing and screwed up everything. I never understood why I was like that. But now it makes more sense, and I am glad to found this. Its good to know our weakness and now I can work from there.
I'm a questioner. You mentioned Myers Briggs, do you know your type and if so which one is it?
Med School Insiders No surprise there, you’re pretty hardcore.
I'm a questionner and I'm an INFP, INFJ
Loved this video. I feel like my tendency described me so accurately so I look forward to using these study tips on upcoming tests.
lmao i got rebel and it’s too accurate
I’m a Questioner! Super spot on, especially the weaknesses...
Questioner! And maybe transitioning into Rebel lol
I'm questioning what's best for the science project.
currently my life's stucked for my lack of discipline, and today I found this video, and, I'm a rebel... it's so hard actually
I’m a questioner
Started as Obliger, now a Questioner. It worked out better for me actually :)
Can a tendency change to another ?!
M. Aktham Probably, personality isn't fixed after all
Yes I think so. I was more of an upholder as a kid and now I am an Obliger with an overlap with Questioner. Currently in obliger rebellion phase :(
I swear you wont regret it :) Take care! )
I think so. I think if I did the quiz two years ago I'd be an obliger, but now I'm a rebel.
I’m a questioner, probably with a sprinkle of rebel as well. I like to have many sources of motivation for me to get things done, things like habit tracking or rationalising why I should do the task, or a good example to emulate or a bad example to distance myself from. I find it the easiest to get things done when I know my methods have been optimised to give me a high yield, and I have something clear, and worthwhile to work towards.
im an obliger
Definitely a questioner lol no wonder why I'm always asking "why?"
I am a Obliger. And I am struggling from time to time. So the rebellion part is so true!
This channel is a life saver 🙏
I am an upholder and I enjoy responding to both inner and outer expectations. I hate failing others and letting myself down.
Got Questioner... soooo accurate.
I'm so glad to be a questioner! Thanks for the great content. It's been helping me A LOT!
i think im a combo of an obliger and an upholder because im ok with both expectations but outer ones definitely come easier to me and make me feel more structured with my scheduling and time
I’m 100% a questioner. I always look up different exercises to best fit me and every product I buy I do (too much) research on each. Also, the Rocketbook Notebook on Amazon is pretty useful.
Rebel:
-independent and deeply empathetic
-restless energy channeled towards work
-routines are main area of focus and success. Nailed routine equals happy time poutines
- resistance through success. Rebellious liberality allows unique interpretations and insights
I do not necessarily fit into any of these categories spot on, but I still learned some great tactics depending on the situation i'm in :)
I am an obliger and my main goal in life was to be an upholder but this video made me realize that this is not what I should be looking for. Thank you
Thank you for this video. I'm an Obliger, and this video was very very instructive, thank you !
I'm a questioner and the description is super accurate
As a questioner, I've tested out this thing. I've noticed that if I set my intentions/ to-dos/ goals the night before, I just glide into my studies the next morning. Also, I get sleep answers, so if I set my intentions the night before, I think about them all night. Questioner= be intentional!
