I don't make notes a lot but yeah when it ces to organic I do write things down as ithere is too much to retain. I have physics, chemistry, maths along with some other languages and all. I am from Asia actually, so do they have organic in your country in highschool?
I’ve been watching videos like this for a while now; I was the “gifted kid” in my school, always got full grades and competed with students nationally till trauma hits and I lost it all, lost the ability to achieve high marks and I can no longer get anything over a simple 80.
Im struggling with this currently as well. I am still making okay grades but I feel like I don’t actually know what is going on in my classes or how I even got those grades. Hopefully we can both get past this! Good luck 😊
the thing that definitely helps me with math is having lots of examples, it helps me apply formulas on problems that don't look the same as the one example my teacher showed. math also has a lot of definitions and like frases that don't consist of numbers that u have to remember when facing a specific question, so I always write them down.
For me maths means take a notebook and madly do practice problems to the extent that even I can't understand what I did after the notebook is finished. 😂
One thing that really helps while taking notes is the WWH(Why, what and how) technique. You just have to take a topic , Write down WHAT it is, write down WHY it happens(the causes) and HOW it happens and there you have it - short but effective notes!
Dammit you got me with the math notes lol I tend to skip on some steps that I think are simple 'cause I assume I'll just remember them anyways but when I look at my notes I'm like "what'd I do here again?" Lmaoo I'll write everything from no on

Summary notes for note taking chemistry: 1. Read through content and highlight text that are important (that your teacher emphasize, main ideas to capture the rough concept). Forces brain to comprehend. Ideally, read through course content before the lecture to reinforce what you already know. 2. Write and solve problems, check your work afterwards. This is my interpretation of your other video on how to do well in chemistry class. I think you had a lot of good information in that video on note taking. “Pre-read - previewing the text, making presumptions of the text for connections to previous knowledge so that you can build off it during the actual reading so that it’s easier to understand. Annotate/make lots of notes in a way that makes most sense to you, in your own words during your lecture and after. Summarize information into tables he says, yet I find splitting information into section summaries more convenient. However, I can understand the thought process since it further forces you to further condense important information into easily accessible pieces, which is a form of independent problem solving from my perspective as you build efficiency in summarizing important information through repetition. Group similar mechanisms together so that you can easily refer back to them later, and I said something along those lines already under “Pre-read”. Write down every single thing the professor wrote down whether in slides or information professors emphasize during lecture.”
as a principals list student, a lot of this is actually really helpful! i’ve been writing out math in word form for a while now and it’s greatly helped me fully understand the concepts! thank you for sharing this with the world.
I’m about to start 11th grade in a month or two and this video has already enhanced my note-taking skills. Although the way I take my notes and learn things is different, I’ll do my best in remembering your advice on whatever note-taking course I take.
I have been raking income tax and accounting courses. (Heavy content) i in my 50s and have never been taught how to make notes and remember. You have given me several ideas thank you.
I’m preparing for my college entry exams and I found the Campbell method really good for IN CLASS notes, it allows me to take notes on the margin and write down questions and tips. I’m studying to enter the STEM area and this has helped me a lot, for out of class studying I read the book/slides like this: 1 I just glance the whole chapter, not read, just check it out 2 then I read the subtitles and images/ graphs 3 then I read some of the exercises to get an idea of how should I approach the subject 4 ONLY THEN I start reading + taking notes
@@NathanWu please make another video in which u should teach very deeply about making notes like what exactly do we underline in textbook and what to write in copy. Please Nathan

Writting math into words is actually pretty cool! You can get lost in just doing math problems and not really understanding them. By writing them down, you force yourself to relate to them which is key to understanding.
Currently finishing out my first highschool year, and I wanted to come back to this video which saved my life when I was transitioning from Online to In person classes and say thank you for making it because its helped me greatly.
i always write my notes for any subject as if i'm explaining it to my future self- in a very conversational, gentle manner. although sometimes i do call myself stupid in them. and if a certain piece of info makes me think of something else, i will write that as well! gotten straight A's and A*'s throughout o levels thanks to this lol
this really helped because i never struggled in hs with academics and i only go to class when i need to take a test, and i still graduated with a 3.8 GPA. when i got into college that was not the case and i really struggled with notes because Im used to just looking at the teacher's slides and just understanding. but now i have to actually read textbooks prior to lectures and that really fricked me up ;-;
@@alexchen9489 first you have to have the "learning is fun" mindset, i believe learning should not be just for young people but people of all ages. and if you dont want ap classes, you just have to make sure you get an a because regular classes are not weighted and what u get is what u get. If you have ap classes and you do well in them they bring ur gpa up
@@alexchen9489 I would suggest dual enrollment classes rather than AP and those are also more weighted so you can get above 4.0 if you desire. I never took a single AP but I did do dual enrollment and it was the best decision. I had many friends in college stressed or disappointed when their AP classes didn’t transfer.
I’m going into my junior year of high school, and while I have taken college courses before, they were mostly all online or through my high school. I had a basic system of notes, but I really want to be more organized this year, as I will be actually attending classes at the local college. Your video had lots of great information in it that I will try to put into my note taking!
You just saved me from anxiety for upcoming college years. I have just completed my 12th grade and entering college and I new that I need a plan going forward because high-school was a trippy ride. And I definitely don't want to be in a same situation!! Thank you so much, it was very informative and useful!
I always had a problem with taking notes and paying attention to the teacher at the same time. I can't keep up with their teaching pace (while taking notes) even though it's not that fast. How do you do it?? Do you taking notes and listening to lectures at the same time, or sum up everything at the end??? Andd, if it's the first one, how do you do it? Thanks in advance, love ur video, it's inspiring me a lot:)
I'm considered a slow writer so I take photos of the board/screen on my phone if the teacher is going to fast. However, because a lot of lectures are now being delivered as videos, you can pause and play as necessary. Big help!
If you can see the materials before class that would be great for you. Some of my classes started using this method of reviewing the material before class to get a base understanding and then in class you can focus much more!
I would write down the main concept and keywords you learned and understand from each slide. But also note down anything you don’t understand so you can ask questions later
literally the notes of ur math notebook are what i NEED. even though my teacher doesn't really explain the steps one-by-one (could also be bcs some kids of my class interrupt her every second and solve the problems themselves) i will try to understand or ask the steps myself. im basically failing maths so i will keep ur tip in mind. thanks a lot for the very helpful study tips!! i wish u all the best
This really Helped me a lot. Especially with Maths. I write down everything in Maths from formulas to examples to practice questions. But when I refer it back i do not remember how the question came to be! Writing the steps and the theory tip so GENIUS for me... Thanks! The only problem now I face is how to condense my notes.
It’s so nice to see someone else writing so much for math! I just finished my math degree and my friends always make fun of me for writing basically a whole novel for each exam question 😭😂
I've learned that note-taking isn't that bad once you know what you're doing. As a Liberal Arts student, and like you've already said most Humanities professors don't even give slides. You've got to figure out a lot of stuff on your own and that's what I've had to do. If you're willing to look into extra info online or through other books when your professor doesn't give their notes, you actually do yourself better by organizing your own notes. Either way great video! Concise and to the point.
The way you explained the math mix ups made me feel better after my recent test,, we had a teacher change during the pandemic quarantining and since I’ve gone from being a straight A student to getting 9 out of 46 9 out of 46 That’s like not even a double digit number 😭😭😭😭😭
Something that helped me in algebra 2 was to take notes in 2 columns: one had the steps, and the other one had the problems where I was doing the steps. This way, you can see both and understand it.

This is so helpful! I’m doing my first in-person pre-calc class this fall. I already took Algebra 1, 2, and 3 online, so I didn’t need to take notes as much. You provided wonderful advice on math notes, it really helped my anxiety.
okay, let me say this right now, but your style has helped me receive an A in Bio I in college. I used to have B's and C's in high school, even though I loved the topic, I just could not put it on paper, so my ability to practice it the way you shared, and my prior knowledge, I got the grade I wanted! I am going to try using the chem & calc I notes, I have to retake calc since I didn't get the grade I wanted, but when I used your step-by-step style for calc, it definitely helped compared to the majority of the year in which I couldn't really understand how I got the steps, so I just need to prove it this time, and chem, gonna be rough but hopefully, like the last two sets, I can learn chem easily!
I hope you write back to this comment, ever since i was in 3rd grade i never really cared about school and didnt pay attention. Like NEVER. Its only now at high school that i realised how much time i wasted and didnt learn things i was supposed to. i dont know how to work my way up when i missed out in so much :'(
I feel so proud that my bio notes look exactly the same as his also, thank you for all these tips!!! I've been meaning to make notes but didn't know how to do so effectively and without wasting time
Glad to say I've figured out all of these on my own after failing 3 years of homeschooling just because of lack of motivation. Better note-taking has just made every bit of school so much easier.
YESSS A LITTLE LOUDER FOR PEOPLE AT THE BACK! I’ve been watching several videos on note-taking tips but I always feel like their tips are only applicable in STEM-based subjects. Humanities and Social Sciences subjects are always text-heavy so you can’t always dig deep into all the details like you would have in other subjects. It is also true that professors from these subjects don’t always have a presentation from which we can annotate. But when they do have their PowerPoint it’s almost always one-liner general sentences so you really have to pay attention to the discussion and how they fit in the overall concept.
The best way for me to understand and fall in love with chemistry was to write in dominate colors that I enjoyed and do practice problems. The best way for chemistry is 100% practice problems. I love writing with purple, blue, and black pens. I’m a Pennsylvania student :)
This coming school year in September is my last year a senior high student. 12th grade and I'll be finally a freshman in college next year. Tbh, I'm not really organized in taking notes. I don't do highlightings but I do slight jotting down of notes. Math is my comfort subject and my notebooks/papers are a total mess. My classmates don't usually understand my notes but I always pass my exams with those lectures I've written. And I realized that being organized like how you actually tipped about is a great help. I'll def try this since I'm actually aiming for high grades and more knowledge so I could pass college entrance exams in my dream school. Ty

How do you study for humanities classes that are looking for you to critique the material? Where it requires you to create your own ideas rather than memorize someone else’s?
I just got my grade 9 final result.. And I pass everything with grade 1.. It's means 100/100 in every subject.. I'm so happy.. Now I'm officially in grade 10
Chemistry Read textbook before lecture Highlight main ideas so u hv a rough concept Annotate textbook during/after lecture. problems make great examples(say of E2 E1 reactions so you know what those kids of reactions look like) In le textbook, fact sheets: info that’s good to know in head/tricks to remember that Biology Annotate slides Annotate diagrams or u wont know what’s going on later Over annotating isnt a problem! U can condense info later while studying! Plus profs tend to test more on what’s taught verbally Math Write evth on the board! Math is step wise so if u skip any steps while copying they won’t make sense later Write info on how to solve the question 60% examples 40% texts //so u know how to logically do the math when it’s presented in a diff way in exams// Humanities [VERY content heavy] so condense as much as possible //condense every course except maths// separate whats relevant drom irrelevant ie main idea from supporting deets May not have slides so gotta decipher verbal stiff ie cut outta fillers so Language: notes as simples as possible so vocabs, grammar dont needa write full sentences Business annotate graphs n diagrams Same as math + humanities
Well... at first, I really apreciate your hand-writting. Secondly, your content helps me to understand and to know about another kind of notes taking. Well I love Maths, Chem and Bio and I always draw stuff to remember easily.
I'm a British student taking Biology, Chemistry and Psychology at ALevel (done at the last 2 years of high school; final step before uni) and this is very useful since I'm taking 2 sciences and 1 humanity subject. Also, chemistry is so so difficult it's defo my hardest subject so thanks for this!!
@@arooj7329 Heyy!! Good choices, I do enjoy them both (far better than chem) but I must say they are really content heavy and it's easy to fall behind if u dont keep up so I'd suggest making notes as u go along (as concise as possible) and regularly going over previous topics and pre-reading before a lesson so u already get the gist of it. If u dont understand smth, dont hesitate to ask ur teacher or go home and learn it however u can (RUclips for example). As things r more independent, ur expected to ask if u dont get it or else no one will know. Additionally, for psych, research methods is arguably the most boring bit but u have to know it inside out bc it's such a big component in exams so even if ur tempted to ignore them, don't! They're not hard, just tedious. Over summer, u might wanna watch some videos on the topics to get an idea of what it's gonna be like. Dont revise heavily tho bc it's not necessary, do enjoy ur summer. For biology I'd say dont neglect practicals bc as well as being tested on how well u carry them out, you'll be asked abt them in exams so dont neglect them like I did at GCSE. Overall, dont be complacent just bc u might understand the content bc it's a LOT and you'll be overwhelmed during exam seasons if u dont revise. Past paper questions will always be the best way of really securing that knowledge. Sorry this is a lot and I wish u all the best! I hope u enjoy them.

I don't make notes a lot but yeah when it ces to organic I do write things down as ithere is too much to retain. I have physics, chemistry, maths along with some other languages and all. I am from Asia actually, so do they have organic in your country in highschool?
THIS IS WHAT IM LOOKING FOR! SIMPLE, TO THE POINT, AND EXACT WE ARE STUDYING
YESS
I’ve been watching videos like this for a while now; I was the “gifted kid” in my school, always got full grades and competed with students nationally till trauma hits and I lost it all, lost the ability to achieve high marks and I can no longer get anything over a simple 80.
Stop comparing! Just because you can’t get a certain mark doesn’t mean you’re any less than
Im struggling with this currently as well.
Examples are key
For me maths means take a notebook and madly do practice problems to the extent that even I can't understand what I did after the notebook is finished. 😂

One thing that really helps while taking notes is the WWH(Why, what and how) technique. You just have to take a topic , Write down WHAT it is, write down WHY it happens(the causes) and HOW it happens and there you have it - short but effective notes!
Great tell me more
Dammit you got me with the math notes lol I tend to skip on some steps that I think are simple 'cause I assume I'll just remember them anyways but when I look at my notes I'm like "what'd I do here again?" Lmaoo I'll write everything from no on
DO. NOT. SKIP. STEPS.

Summary notes for note taking chemistry:
If you were my teacher, I wouldn't be scrolling instead of listening to you. You explain so well
I love teaching, so I appreciate that compliment
Thank you! People are never specific like this when it comes to note-taking.
Hope you took notes on this note taking video ahahah

I’m preparing for my college entry exams and I found the Campbell method really good for IN CLASS notes, it allows me to take notes on the margin and write down questions and tips. I’m studying to enter the STEM area and this has helped me a lot, for out of class studying I read the book/slides like this:
1 I just glance the whole chapter, not read, just check it out
2 then I read the subtitles and images/ graphs
3 then I read some of the exercises to get an idea of how should I approach the subject
4 ONLY THEN I start reading + taking notes
Interesting method

i always write my notes for any subject as if i'm explaining it to my future self- in a very conversational, gentle manner. although sometimes i do call myself stupid in them. and if a certain piece of info makes me think of something else, i will write that as well! gotten straight A's and A*'s throughout o levels thanks to this lol
this really helped because i never struggled in hs with academics and i only go to class when i need to take a test, and i still graduated with a 3.8 GPA. when i got into college that was not the case and i really struggled with notes because Im used to just looking at the teacher's slides and just understanding. but now i have to actually read textbooks prior to lectures and that really fricked me up ;-;
You have to be adaptable to succed
This is me... I graduated with a 4.0 from HS but struggled so bad my first year of college. You got this tho! :)
hi does anyone of you know how do you get a good gpa without taking any ap class? thx

Big help!

Something that helped me in algebra 2 was to take notes in 2 columns: one had the steps, and the other one had the problems where I was doing the steps. This way, you can see both and understand it.

okay, let me say this right now, but your style has helped me receive an A in Bio I in college.

I said what I said

This coming school year in September is my last year a senior high student. 12th grade and I'll be finally a freshman in college next year. Tbh, I'm not really organized in taking notes. I don't do highlightings but I do slight jotting down of notes. Math is my comfort subject and my notebooks/papers are a total mess. AMAZING
Chemistry
Read textbook before lecture
Highlight main ideas so u hv a rough concept
Annotate textbook during/after lecture.
problems make great examples(say of E2 E1 reactions so you know what those kids of reactions look like)
In le textbook, fact sheets: info that’s good to know in head/tricks to remember that
Biology
Annotate slides
Annotate diagrams or u wont know what’s going on later
Over annotating isnt a problem! U can condense info later while studying! Plus profs tend to test more on what’s taught verbally
Math
Write evth on the board! Math is step wise so if u skip any steps while copying they won’t make sense later
Write info on how to solve the question
60% examples 40% texts //so u know how to logically do the math when it’s presented in a diff way in exams//
Humanities
[VERY content heavy] so condense as much as possible
//condense every course except maths// separate whats relevant drom irrelevant ie main idea from supporting deets
May not have slides so gotta decipher verbal stiff ie cut outta fillers so
Language: notes as simples as possible so vocabs, grammar dont needa write full sentences
Business
annotate graphs n diagrams
Same as math + humanities
The graph mechanical pencil made me believe you are a truly smart person who helps with true tips. +1 subscriber
Omg this was so helpful for humanities, I have a huge issue with not condensing my notes so this was great.

A-Level gang! ✨
Starting A-levels this September, how is Biology and Psychology? I picked them and I wanna know what I've gotten myself into haha
