I think most conversations online about self care neglect the reality that sometimes self care is not just about doing things that make you feel good an unwind in the moment. Sometimes self care is cleaning your room, doing your errands on time, making a budget, brushing your teeth etc. But this type of taking care of yourself is hard, especially if you have anxiety or depression ! And it doesn't necessarily feel good in the moment to do these kind of things that ultimately do ensure that you are taking care of yourself
Self care for me sometimes is taking a saturday just for cleaning and doing chores I procrastinated so that I can relax on Sunday and feel good about myself. It's hard, but sometimes just needed when I haven't been capable of a lot for a while. And the self care things of drinking my favourite drink or listening to my favourite podcast or music can co exist with that. Taking a well deserved shower afterwords aswell. But when I'm really busy with work or school, selfcare is being okay with not coocking and a Netflix binge session. It's all about finding balance in fun sslfcare and essential self care
I'm a big fan of breaking down tasks So for example I will work on a paper for 30 minutes and after that I'm allowed to take a break. Usually after the times run out I'm in the groove so I keep working but even if I stop I've at least accomplished something.
Someone once told me self-care was self parenting and I took it to heart. A good parent will encourage a kid to take care of themselves and their space (get sleep, tidy the house etc) because they know that it will be good for them long term. But a good parent may buy their kid a candy bar occasionally or go to the amusement park or whatever. Since then that is how I've always approached 'self-care'.

Fun fact, in the big cat world, cats who can roar cannot purr, while smaller cats can purr but not roar. ❤️❤️❤️

That last one is something my husband found himself doing. He has depression and anxiety. So when he saw other people going through the same, he would do whatever he could to give them support. Problem was that when they felt better and he was having a rough time, they weren’t there for him. He was sharing their burden and getting worse for it. His phrase was “I’m setting myself on fire to keep others warm”. When it gets to that stage, you have to look after yourself. And that’s not selfish. It’s self care.
I am definitely one of those people who rewatches movies as a relaxation technique. My anxiety is really bad so knowing that a movie is going to be quiet and that I already know what is going to happen is super comforting because I don't have to pay too much attention, I can just use it as white noise in a way.

Here in Finland it is not something just rich people have, allmost all apartments (even rentable condos) have either a own sauna in every apartment or joint sauna for everybody in the building. Totally recommend, sitting in a sauna after long work day (specially in cold winter months) is just awesome.
There is a sauna and steam room in nearly every swimming pool in Ireland. My closest swimming pool is 20 mins away and second closest is 30 mins away which isn’t close but if you live in city or town it would be closer. Its definitely isn’t a rich person thing here. The definition of tea is actually an infusion of the tea plant (Camelia sinensis). Green tea, Black tea and "normal" tea are all the same plant, just fermented for longer/shorter times. All the rest of the commonly known teas, like chamomille, mint, lemon, etc. are techically infusions :) (An infusion is made by placing an "ingredient" into a liquid to extract its compounds)
fun fact i listen to the podcast every night before bed and i’ve pavlov’d myself into falling asleep in less than 5 minutes when i hear your voices. it’s to the point that it takes me a week to listen to the whole thing and then a new one comes out. it’s my favorite and most relaxing part of the day :)
Honey and lemon can be considered tea the same way most "herbal" or "fruit" teas can be considered tea. You do steep the lemon to get out the juice and zest oils after all. But the most strict definition of tea has to be the actual tea plant, so green tea, oolong, black tea, etc. And if i remember correctly, Cristine doesnt actually like those flavors of actual unadulterated tea 👀
I think even calling it 'herbal tea' is a stretch, there are lemon teas that use the zest and other parts dried of the lemon and then its brewed as a herbal tea but that's not the same as squirting lemon juice into water and sweetening it. what Ben makes is just hot lemonade
Donnie Darko is one of my favourite movies of all time. To this day, I say "Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion" when people are doing a half-assed job.
Sometimes self care is also doing some difficult things. Self care can be going to therapy, facing your fears, making that phone call you've been putting off. Some things are 'direct gratification', and some things are more for the long run. In the end, self care is about putting yourself first and doing what is good and right for you. So it can be basically anything.
My aunt doesn’t like folding laundry, so she just has a chest where she puts all of her clean clothes and tbh I think that’s genius. I feel like a good percentage of people don’t really fold their laundry ALL the time and often have a pile of clothes in a basket or on the couch waiting to be folded, so like, why not just have it inside a chest where you can’t see it? If it’s something that wrinkles, iron in or throw it in the dryer for a few minutes before wearing it 🤷🏼♀️ People are too judgey of how other people keep their homes
There's a unicorn eye mask, unicorn face mask, unicorn skin mug, unicorn skin nails, unicorn skin collection box, and Cristine's tumbler colour kind of looks like gradient of Cyantific and What Do You Pink. In conclusion, unicorns = relaxation 🦄☁️
there's a chance the sweat/friction from wearing gloves could agitate her eczema, I know it happened to me a lot 😅 but also i guess that's why we have ben lol
True self-care is taking a break when you need to. Eating a balanced diet with lots of vegetables. Saving for retirement. Keeping in touch with friends and family. Feeding the mind with good books and films and games. Going to therapy to resolve trauma, guilt, shame, to enhance self-reflection and discovery and forgiveness. It's letting go of toxic relationships and old grudges. Real self-care is positive self-talk. It's accepting how you look and being comfortable in your skin. Setting goals and achieving them, finding joy in the process. Making new friends. It's not about buying anything. That's "self-care" "self-love" bullshit used to sell you makeup and skincare and vacations and hotel rooms. No, self care is not expensive. It should not have to come with a price tag at all.
Karen Puzzles manages to make hours and hours of one person doing a puzzle very interesting. One of my favorite channels. She may have done the one you are talking about too
I re-watch old simply videos that I used to watch years ago. They're super comforting! There's this idea of "going back to Eden" where we are constantly trying to re-live old positive experiences we've had in the past I think that could be why. I would come home from school and watch videos and re-watching takes me back!
I'm a total non-workout person. After working out I feel tired, sweaty, slightly irritated, and not relaxed at all. I have to force myself to do it, that's how much I dislike it. The best way for me to "work out" is when it happens when I don't pay attention to it. Like washing the car by hands, taking care of the garden etc. The gym is like a swear word for me.
Omg I thought I was the only one! Everybody keeps telling me to work out bc they feel great after. That’s just not the case for me. The only kinds of exercise I’d consider doing are things which I consider fun to actually do (basketball, going for walks with animals). Any type of exercise, which doesn’t distract me from the fact I’m doing sport (jogging, work-outs), is just not for me.
I feel the same for some workouts more then others. I prefer cardio stretches etc but I'm not a fan of going on my bike and doing a good stamina exercise. My solution then is to just put headphones on and listen to music. The focus then isn't the exercise, but just the music. I'm fairly musical myself, so I try to cycle in time to the music, it makes it from boring to enjoyable. I can't bring myself to enjoy sport though.
I rewatch shows the way people listen to music. It’s background. It’s comforting that I can sit down and watch some and not be lost as to what is happening in the show but I also can walk away and cook or clean or whatever and not be missing anything. ❤️
Me painting my nails and watching a relaxcast in which cristine is telling that she relaxes by watching relaxing videos and painting her nails. Real life inception
When I went to college the drive between my dorm and my house was a straight shot for an hour and it was so relaxing. Now my drive to work is so nice and it gets me ready for the day mentally
I love taking the time to make a pot of tea. Preparing the pot, the tea leaves. Getting out a special cup to go with my pot. Preparing a cup of tea is so relaxing.
I watch the same couple series is over and over and over. I am a very anxious person and I have a great comfort in knowing what’s going to happen next and not having to be surprised or worry about it
i totally get watching water boil as meditative; i like watching the different stages of the water getting to the boil as more and more bubbles appear. And the ritual of making tea and watching the change in the color of the water as it steeps - it's all about the little moments in life - Love U Guys!
This podcast is sorta part of my self care routine when I'm really stressed out I just lay down, close my eyes and listen. I also do it when I can't sleep and it helps a lot.
Ngl i was just watching the cats episode of the podcast, it was great... then saw this and was like yesssss, also saw the sneak peak on snapchat and got sooo excited, anyone else, CANT WAIT FOR MY NAIL POLISH TO COME IN ORDERED IT RIGHT AT 11:30....
I just wanna say, after being on RUclips for 10 years and experiencing all the good and the abundance of bad, this podcast really started bringing me back some hope lately because I've only started watching your pod a week ago, I'm just surprised how rare are the gems on this website and this is one of them, I watch you two and I don't feel lost, I feel like a part of a group and it feels good.. unlike other youtubers who can ramble about absolute garbage for 2 hours straight. Thanks a lot, I appreciate your work! :)
I can relate with cleaning room! my room is usually messy but when I'm super stressed, the first thing I do will probably cleaning my room or my house! It's so calming not thinking of anything just to clean my room and it's very rewarding! I feel super productive and feel so good when my room is less messy. because usually when I'm stressed i failed to do basic self care, so it feels so good when I finished cleaning my room and I feel productive and just feel better
I was doing some self care today, I took a nice shower, then had a bath with epsom salt and green tea, while listening to this and drinking a tea. Also had a face mask going. Also the girl who said screaming in her car, she definitely works retail and I feel you! Another great self care for me is cleaning. Often I find that my mental health reflects the physical wellbeing of the house, so having clean kitchen or having laundry done, just clears my head and makes me happy.
Here's the tea about tea: For a drink to be called "tea" it has to be made with actual tea leaves from the tea bush. This includes (but may not be limited to) black tea, green tea and white tea. Other hot, brewed, beverages are called infusions. This includes, but again not limited to, fruit infusions, chamomile, rooibush, mint etc. Real teas may also be mixed with leaves and/or berries from other plants, like rose, jasmine, orange etc. This is called flavoured tea. This has been my TED talk. You're welcome!
Definitly ordered a unicorn dream collection for my daughter who's turning 7 next month. As a long time follower it's so great to see creaters like you both who are nice family friendly content. I love your videos and so does she. It's great having a show we can bond over :-)
Until recently my biggest relaxation method was colouring my hair all sorts of shades. I’d mix like colours together or do 2 or 3 layers of colours so as it faded it would bring out the colour underneath. As of the last year I’ve eased up on that to give my hair a break but I’ve started to clean my place again a lot more to relax my mind.
I used to be a massive people pleaser and always wonder what people think of me. It was not good for my mental health. I had to learn to say no to things to protect my own wellbeing.
This part of the podcast really made me a bit sad. Ben's like "it's ok to be selfish sometimes" and when pressed as to what that looks like he didn't know. Ben is such a giver, and that's awesome - but i hope he never feels shame when he expresses what he wants and takes time to spoil himself.
Have you found the Jennifer Ehle videos of her reading it yet? She had a youtube channel where she reads all of p&p and it’s amazing when bits of Elizabeths dialogue come up, takes you right back to the series!
I think I have the same exact list as Cristine on what I do to relax. Working out is so relaxing! It's perfect for self care as it's literally me time where I have an hour of no distractions and can just focus on the workout.

yes! i completely agree with Ben's method of driving as a self-care thing. My sister and I have taken to driving for 2+ hours listening to music. It's definitely a great way for us to relax and unwind from all the stress of school, etc
My therapist told me that it’s very common for people with anxeity to watch a show over and over, because there is no suprises, it’s ”safe” and familiar. 🖤
This makes perfect sense. Thanks for sharing. I live with anxiety disorders and find watching a formulaic show soothing. Mostly home decor/house selling shows. Before/after reveal type shows are the best and most satisfying to me even though intellectually they don't quite hit. Sometimes you just don't like to learn something new. hahahaa
I love the cetaphil cleanser bc I’m so sensitive! When I find something that works I try not to change it. And clean products and fragrance free products are the best for me!
Honestly, the most amazing stress relief advice I can give is that when you’re stressed, seriously think about why that is. What is the core of your stress because sometimes it isn’t the crazy thoughts spiraling through your mind? Identify it and eliminate it if you can. If you can’t eliminate it, think about why you are in the situation you are in and what you can do differently next time to avoid it. For some reason, even just identifying it and making a plan to do better next time makes me feel better and more in control.
YES purring has been studied, and it is far more than just purring! It is supposed to heal and to soothe. That's why they not only purr when they feel good, but also when they feel bad. And it has effects on us. This is really interesting, I suggest doing more research :) Fun fact: all cats purr with the same note (G)
The "messy desk" thing is actually often seen in people who have things like ADD/ADHD and it's because if we don't have things in front of us we can literally forget about them, and if we have to search for things we can get distracted super easy. So having point of use/easy access to things is almost necessary even if it looks cluttered or messy to others
Lol, funny thing because I’m actually playing this as an ambient video while I’m alone at home. It’s really helped me get through this time. Thanks, you two.
I’m literally applying nail oil and drinking tea while I have this on in the background 😭 cristine has had too much of an influence on me. (Jk I’ve always loved tea)

my brain: Tea Tea.
fun fact i listen to the podcast every night before bed and i’ve pavlov’d myself into falling asleep in less than 5 minutes when i hear your voices. it’s to the point that it takes me a week to listen to the whole thing and then a new one comes out. it’s my favorite and most relaxing part of the day :)
Honey and lemon should be combined with chamomile tea for sour throats, not just hot water.
This is the real tea here. Lol. I agree. I'm a tea purist.
I think even calling it 'herbal tea' is a stretch, there are lemon teas that use the zest and other parts dried of the lemon and then its brewed as a herbal tea but that's not the same as squirting lemon juice into water and sweetening it.
what Ben makes is just hot lemonade
It slightly bothers me when people call infusions that don’t contain Camelia sinensis leaves, “tea”, haha
Donnie Darko is one of my favourite movies of all time. To this day, I say "Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion" when people are doing a half-assed job.
Omg me too hahaha
When Ben said I relax by blowing the heads off zombies I related to that so much 😂😂😂
My favorite way to relax is laying my head between my two cats for surround sound purrs. It’s make life so much better.
I could swear there's a connection between some of those mug and tumbler releases and her collection releases.
Cristine- if you want to garden without dirt under your nails, you could wear gardening gloves! :)
there's a chance the sweat/friction from wearing gloves could agitate her eczema, I know it happened to me a lot 😅
but also i guess that's why we have ben lol
omg Suzzie is the Bob Ross of nails. she has lulled me to sleep many times 😴
Hay water..? Is that the Canadian version of hot leaf juice? 😂
Brought to you by the makers of hot bean water 😂
11:39 Mench is like "Eyy you just talk about me, just pet me already"
I just started doing Extreme Dot-to-Dot and it's the most relaxing activity. I randomly switch color pens to give them a cool rainbow effect🖍
@@plzignoremyname7911 This in 10000 times. :D
I've hear cat purring can help heal their bones, and is also the purrfect (sorry lol) frequecy to calm people
Cats purr at a frequency that promotes healing. They also purr when they are in pain or distress, i think as a method of comforting themselves.
I rewatch shows the way people listen to music. It’s background. It’s comforting that I can sit down and watch some and not be lost as to what is happening in the show but I also can walk away and cook or clean or whatever and not be missing anything. ❤️
lol I too look at my kettle when water is boiling! It's soothing in a weird way hahah
Me painting my nails and watching a relaxcast in which cristine is telling that she relaxes by watching relaxing videos and painting her nails. Real life inception
I find the whole ritual of making tea, especially when i do it in a pot, extremely relaxing.
When I went to college the drive between my dorm and my house was a straight shot for an hour and it was so relaxing. Now my drive to work is so nice and it gets me ready for the day mentally
53 weeks next week! That’s a year of podcasts!!! Woohoooo
Another Troom-troom alias.
Sometimes i get distracted by menchie's cuteness
I desperately love that super simp thing, WE NEED MERCH! WE NEED MERCH!
I love taking the time to make a pot of tea. Preparing the pot, the tea leaves. Getting out a special cup to go with my pot. Preparing a cup of tea is so relaxing.
I've been listening to old episodes this morning waiting for the new one to come out today. hooray! 🥳
I watch the same couple series is over and over and over. I am a very anxious person and I have a great comfort in knowing what’s going to happen next and not having to be surprised or worry about it
When ben said “throw you in the oven” all I could think of was THROW HER IN THE SOUP
My favourite white man; Bed.
I love that theres inside jokes with the simp squad.
Which video was that in? I can hear Ben say it in my mind 😂 but I can't remember which video 😭
@@byaainryan5244 it was one of the am I the asshole podcasts. I think the first one of those?

i totally get watching water boil as meditative; i like watching the different stages of the water getting to the boil as more and more bubbles appear. And the ritual of making tea and watching the change in the color of the water as it steeps - it's all about the little moments in life - Love U Guys!
So early! Yay makes my teaching plan time so much more interesting and not boring 🥰
i agree with tori, when i know my room is clean and all my assignments are done i feel so happy
Love you guys! Can't wait for my collection box to come in. The relaxation attire is amazing 💗
Listening to this podcast is my self-care
I can relate with cleaning room! my room is usually messy but when I'm super stressed, the first thing I do will probably cleaning my room or my house! It's so calming not thinking of anything just to clean my room and it's very rewarding! I feel super productive and feel so good when my room is less messy. because usually when I'm stressed i failed to do basic self care, so it feels so good when I finished cleaning my room and I feel productive and just feel better
MOM and DAD chilling and talking about self care yayyy 😌😌
I love when Ben calls us super simps!!! That needs to be in the beginning of every episode 😆
Oh. My. Gosh.
Ben in the unicorn skin mask is a mood
I was doing some self care today, I took a nice shower, then had a bath with epsom salt and green tea, while listening to this and drinking a tea. Also had a face mask going.
Also the girl who said screaming in her car, she definitely works retail and I feel you!
Another great self care for me is cleaning. Often I find that my mental health reflects the physical wellbeing of the house, so having clean kitchen or having laundry done, just clears my head and makes me happy.
Here's the tea about tea:
For a drink to be called "tea" it has to be made with actual tea leaves from the tea bush.
What about tisane?
Exactly!! Teas have to include leaves of the tea plant Camellia sinensis.
@@emmcguire94 tisanes or herbal teas are infusions
Every night, I play this and start to shut my eyes. I love being able to just listen and not worry about what I’m missing visually
Omg my comment was mentioned! So rewarding since I've religiously watched every episode, thank you!
Same here 😁
Definitly ordered a unicorn dream collection for my daughter who's turning 7 next month. As a long time follower it's so great to see creaters like you both who are nice family friendly content. I love your videos and so does she. It's great having a show we can bond over :-)
Does anyone else thought that Ben was holding that money in the thumbnail?? I know it has a stroke but nice placement Cristine :)
oh yeah! 😂
Ben add your honey and lemon to ginger tea its a game changer for a sore throat!
Making and drinking tea is so soothing. Especially the first cup of the day
I used to be a massive people pleaser and always wonder what people think of me. It was not good for my mental health. I had to learn to say no to things to protect my own wellbeing.
This part of the podcast really made me a bit sad. Ben's like "it's ok to be selfish sometimes" and when pressed as to what that looks like he didn't know. Ben is such a giver, and that's awesome - but i hope he never feels shame when he expresses what he wants and takes time to spoil himself.
me: watches the same shows and movies, reads the same books, listens to the same music over and over and over 👁👄👁
pride and prejudice, in any medium (film, tv, audiobook, youtube drama), is always my comfort story
Have you found the Jennifer Ehle videos of her reading it yet? She had a youtube channel where she reads all of p&p and it’s amazing when bits of Elizabeths dialogue come up, takes you right back to the series!
Speaking of puzzles, watch KarenPuzzles. She does a great job of making it very interesting. Right now she's working on a 24,000 piece puzzle!
I think I have the same exact list as Cristine on what I do to relax. Working out is so relaxing! It's perfect for self care as it's literally me time where I have an hour of no distractions and can just focus on the workout.
Cristine's followers should be called "Simps" because she is "Simply" 😂 makes sense to me! 🤷♀️
Cristine's followers are holosexuals, but podcast listeners are simps
@@kittenseven4269 she hasn't used the term "holosexual" in a few years now.
@@aprilharwig I know, probably because people complained about the "sexual" part. I think she mentioned it in a podcast where they talked about the trademarks
@@kittenseven4269 she had said she thought it was insensitive towards the LGBTQ+ community.

It’s kinda sad though. I loved how uncomplicated identifying as a Holosexual was.
My birthday treat to myself this month was buying a few of Halo Taco's nail polishes! 😍 this month has been SO stressful and I can't wait to relax and paint my nails when they arrive! 💜 I also listen to simply podlogical when I'm doing tasks and it helps me relax, Ben really does have a calming voice!!! 😁
Ben: People can eat tacos on days other than Tuesdays.
Me being a Mexican: I eat them practically every day. 🤷🏻♀️🌮🇲🇽
If I could I would eat tacos everyday🤷🏼♀️
yes! i completely agree with Ben's method of driving as a self-care thing.
Sometimes you just don't like to learn something new. hahahaa

So having point of use/easy access to things is almost necessary even if it looks cluttered or messy to others
happy taco tuesday Super Simps Squad !!! 💜
I usually do my nails whilst watching this too!
I still remember when Cris first started talking about how much she loved tea years ago and feeling so seen, I have a massive collection of tea only rivalled by my collection of nail polish 😅
I’ve been stressing while doing my job, but lately I started listening to your podcasts while working and it really helps me feel less stressed and less bored so i thank you for that 🥳
Im on team gets extremely nauseated and dizzy and almost throws up after working out so I just dont do it 😅
