@@jetstyle4life Technically, yes. But not in a traditional way. For example, you can cast your phone's screen to a device and launch Dex to a wired monitor. You enable the setting "Float pointer to phone screen" in Dex settings and pick which side of the monitor your phone (or in this case, your "Cast to" device) is at. And then you can use both displays, using Android as your 2nd monitor. But I don't believe Dex can currently work directly with 2 monitors in the same way as a PC or Laptop at the moment.

I feel like that this could be the future of computers in schools! Like in the classroom desks could just have a monitor for students that they could connect their phone to make notes of lectures. And libraries could have monitors where people could connect their phones to do some work. Also internet caffees could use this aswell!
If you show up at the business meeting, no laptop, just plug in the phone and go through your presentation using your watch, James Bond style, 9 out of 10 you'll get that deal.

I've become a huge promoter of the Samsung Dex features among the University campus where I work. It's surprising the number of people who have a Samsung flagship phone and are not aware of it. Adobe Rush is a great video editor software for editing on your Samsung phone with Dex. I love that I can keep a spare monitor, keyboard, and mouse at any location I visit often, such as at the office, at my local makerspace, or in my workshop/studio. At the university, I can walk into most any conference room and plug into the big screen there and I don't have to carry a laptop. I can also remote into my desktop at home or any computer at work as well without any lag. My next purchase will be a Galaxy watch.
Wow that is actually great! Good to hear you're investing now in the ecosystem. :) I have a Note10+ as my daily driver and I plan on using my S8 as my Dex device as well. I also have a Gear S3 Classic, I know it's not the latest but it really boosts my productivity really well! GL!
Do you have any advice for using DEX with a display link monitor? I want to do the same thing with my university office, but I'd rather use the spare monitor I already have since it doesn't get enough use at home.
Best use case for Dex I've seen is family use with students. Leave a setup in a living room or kitchen. Then anyone can plug in to get homework done. One device for everyone.
Tip: When you go to a hotel or any place with a nice monitor then you have an instant smart TV. ( Netflix, Disney+, VRV, Crunchyroll). 👍 I've used Dex before it got big ever sense it first came out. In fact Dex is why I pre ordered the 12 GB ram model of the S10+
samsung's versatility and power with dex just allows it to kill apple. i just tried it for the first time and i was blown away. imagine with more time with it.
Great video mate. Actually if you use Samsung’s Dex pad you will be able to open more than five windows at the same time, and as a bonus you get a couple of usb ports and a fan to keep your device cool while charging and using Dex. Keep up the good work.
@@MikeOBrienMedia I'm using a similar 3rd party USB-C to HDMI adapter, but mine has a PD input. The PD input is needed to trigger DEx, removes the 5-window limitation, and of course charges the phone, therefore also removing the need for a wireless charger. 😊
Hi Mike, I'm from the future. I use two screens with Samsung Dex and it's really easy to set up... Right-click on your desktop, and then select Display properties or Display settings. Then, scroll down to Multiple displays, and select your desired option in the drop-down list. Extend these displays: This lets you use both monitors and have something different on each one. I hope this helps... Keep up the good work 😉👌
As a heads up, DeX can utilize thumb drives, USB 3.0 HDD, and USB printers. I would suggest trying a different adapter as some lack that functionality but not all. My DeX Pad can do printers, thumb drives, and USB mouse/Keyboard, and I got a seperate adapter with USB 3.0 for use with my media hard drive. Works great
I might be wrong but I believe in order to push the phone to its full capabilities you need to plug the phone on the proper Dex Dock from Samsung. That way, you can charge your phone, your peripherals are powered not by phone but by the dock, plus it has a built-in fan that cools your phone down.
This works on older generation of S & note series (S8, S9, Note 8, Note 9) and S21. On other generations, Dex can run fine without fan, especially with new S22 with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, the SoC is so good at efficiency & heat management compared to Snapdragon 888 on S21 which makes Dex should heat less in S22.
I been a IPHONE user since the beginning. Broke my last iPhone 10s. I saw this about the Det and this sold me. To get double use out of it is the main reason
I dont even have a desktop or a laptop so I 100% believe I can get away with using dex. I have the cable, keyboard, and mouse coming in the mail for my note 9 right now. The tip about using a wireless charger isn't something I even thought about and is a great idea! Thank you.

In 2022 Samsung DeX makes replacing notebook computers with a Samsung smartphone or tablet for a lot of users, if they want to exploit the full capabilities.
This was a great explanation of how DeX works. I've been curious, just happened to search it up a few months after purchasing my Note9. Awesome tutorial, and/or review.
I really like Samsung DeX, I do use it occasionally when I have work stuff to do at home, I have a wireless printer and a wireless hard drive on my home network so neither of those things are an issue for me. I have found it more than usable and there have been a number of updates to it since this video came out. I would love to see Samsung go the same way Motorola tried to a couple of years ago with the Atrix, where you had what looked like a laptop but it was only a screen and keyboard with a dock for the phone, as, like you said, our phones have comparable specs to a laptop you would use for work, with the added bonus of having all your work stuff with you wherever you are even if you don’t have the laptop periferal.
I'm a power user myself too, and I gave dex a try, my only complain is that my phone can't record 4K videos while using dex, I'm riding a regular Note 10, but as you said, dex Is a poferwul option and can replace a laptop in a lot of useful escenarios, excelent video, great video, keep up the good work
It wasn't intended for me to do this, but when I bought my Note 5 back in 2015, my laptop quickly became more of just a storage place for music, pics and videos than anything else, while my Note 5 became my main web device. Anytime I was watching TV and I saw or heard something that I didn't know about, my first instinct, instead of opening my laptop, I would immediately pick up my phone to look up information. It stayed that way the entire time i had it into February 2020, 4 1/2 years later. I do the exact same thing with my Note 10+, only now I have the ability to turn my phone and Samsung smart TV into my PC. So for me, making the switch to replacing my laptop was easy because I had already transitioned years earlier. One of the first things I did after getting my new Note was order an HDMI hub adapter dongle thingy. NO, really... I did order one of those cheap $10 boxes that you plug into the phone and has an HDMI port, a USB 3.0 port, a USB C port to charge through and a couple SD card slots. It didn't work out too well, it kept crashing, disconnecting and going into screen mirror mode by itself, but it did work just well enough for me to decide to buy a DeX docking station. I don't have any set parameters for determining whether to use the DeX station or just use the phone freestyle, but I'd say I use them fairly equally. The only thing I don't really care for about the system is that it's all but guaranteed that because of the price, size, shape and slipperiness of the phone, that you're going to have some kind of cover on the phone and that every time I wish to use DeX I have to remove the phone from its case. I think my next purchase is going to be a short USB C extension cable so I don't have to keep doing that and it's as easy as just plugging it into the dock instead of actually docking with it. I bought the dock style because I couldn't find anything else with extra USB ports in addition to the basics. Anyway I bought a BaseUs dock because in addition to the USB 3.0 port, there are also two USB A ports. Right now I have a Logitech mouse plugged into one of the A ports and a Logitech K400+ keyboard in the other. I have a Logitech combo kit that has both a keyboard and a mouse paired with one single receiver, but the keyboard is a bit larger than what I was looking for. The K400+ has a little trackpad and mouse keys over on the right side of the keyboard, and I'm finding that it's getting easier every day to just use that instead of the mouse, so it's probably just a matter of a few days before I unplug the mouse completely and use the trackpad for everything. My personal thoughts on this system is that given how little I've used my laptop over the past five years, and the amount of memory in the phone, plus the memory card, plus what ever memory is on the Micro SD card that plugs into it, my laptop is pretty much useless at this point. Now that I think of it, I haven't opened up my laptop for about three weeks now, and I don't think I will any time soon.
I did something similar for 2 weeks. I had to send my thinkpad back to the manufacturer. For 2 weeks, I used Samsung dex in the place of my home computer with a powered dongle, 24 inch monitor, and separate mouse and keyboard. I was impressed with how much work I was able to get done using my S10e. I would not want to be doing long hours of writing on it so it would never be a true computer replacement for me. Also, you have to disable any 3rd party keyboard on the device and use the Samsung keyboard. Otherwise, it messes up some of the key mapping.
I use DeX on Note 9. I have a wireless hp printer and that works fine. Flashdrives also work, but they need to be FAT32 or exFAT format. You say you don't have a program to do video editing: try using Adobe Rush for Samsung. Or you can use Linux on Dex and install OpenShot on linux for video editing. Works perfectly. You can even use Linux on Dex wirelessly together with Proximity Service and a VNC server or direcly from Dex.
I'm actually really liking the dex station from the note 8. It has a built in hdmi, A FAN :D, ethernet port, usb ports. It seems like its perfect for high end gaming (keeping the phone cool and having a physical internet connection).
This is super cool!! I've been thinking and debating on getting the galaxy s20 plus and this just sealed the deal as I wanted a computer also. Crazy that a phone van literally replace your desktop or laptop (kinda). huge space saver. I remember when the dex first came out with the older Galaxy's with the dock and I had to pass on that one. But now using without dock is awesome. Thanks for great video
Seven days, cute LOL I've been using my Note 9 with DeX/Linux on DeX for the last 8 months as my main PC. This can 100% replace anyone's computer/laptop without an issue, including for those o-m-g I can't leave windows because of my gaming addiction people. Use Shadow PC or NVIDIAGames for gaming, Shadow PC being the better of the options.
I bought a Note+ with plans to use Linux on Dex. Alas, it looks suspiciously like Samsung has dumped Linux on Dex for PC on Dex. Now, I wish kept my S8+!!!
S.R im having problem with this, i have usb c hub with power in port, my phone is charging but the battery is decreasing, in using origingal samsung wall adapter,, do i need to get higher wattage of charger?
@@arthurtemblique7304 is it decreasing significantly? When i use the original charger on my dock it drops like 1 percent every hour or so which is good enough for me but if you want to charge as well you will need a higher wattage charger. A simple 30W power delivery brick should work fine.
Yes it drops 1% every 2minutes.. when i check the ampere reading while connected to usb c hub it was 300mA only,, so im thinking to get higher wattage charger to fix the charging issue..
Elmano98 maybe my usb c hub is the problem?? Thats why when i use dex i need to fully charged it first before start watching movie using dex. Pretty weird 😅 i tried different wall charger but the result was same.. haven't tried using higher wattage.
Wireless printers work fine with Dex. You may need to download the printer plugin or something though. And if you use a dongle with a power delivery built in, I believe you can have 20 apps open on screen at any given time.
There is some audio effect in this video that is absolutely maddening. It's as if you were bumping your mic while recording the TTC. Made it very hard to pay attention to, what was otherwise, an interesting take on the usability of Dex.
Yeah I enjoy using DEX, but as someone else said u need a dongle with a power delivery connected to it -0 this way I have a dvd drive connected, and I have printed over wireless.. I hope Samsung continue to develop as its a great system and could be even better with more optamissed apps for it.. great vid
Loving your channel man, keep up the good work. I like it when people dig into things and share their thoughts and opinions on actual everyday use. I did some research myself and it looks like using a USBC with power delivery is what is needed for peripherals. You may need to download drivers depending on what device you're trying to connect to. Also, I see people using wireless printers without issue. Thanks for the video...I sub'd, can't wait for the next one!
it was a good rundown, most people miss many important points like - you cant connect a printer, also it was amazing of you to really stretch it, most videos I've seen try to really underplay how powerful dex is, but just using it as a phone even on dex mode, not hating on anyone, but yeah your video was very helpful!
I only use my old android 7 tablet because shipping things too my country from internet is impossible. But when i need windows or linux i just rent vps with windows on it or linux with ubuntu or debian on it and either ssh into linux or vnc into windows. Works. It odd and awkward but it gets the job done.
Hello! Thanks for video. Here are many comments about a hubs with power delivery, so I just want to add my two cents. For use printers and other peripherals with DEX you should to download drivers apps from Google Play for them. For example. for use another's printers I installed all print services apps what I found in Google Play: for HP, Canon, Samsung, Kyocera, Brother and etc. So now I can use any printer by cable or wireless.
Dex docking station is excellent you can place it next to your existing desktop and usb hub share your existing desktops hdmi monitor , keyboard and mouse or use a separate bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
@@Kara-mf7vk i used existing desktop mouse and keyboard using DeX Desktop Software and Docking Station. Stand Alone Samsung Note i use mini or full size blue tooth keyboard/mouse combo i plug in blue tooth receiver into DEX Docking Station
What does that mean older Dex pads? There is a Dex docking station and a Dex pad. Both should work just fine. You can also plug in the Note 10 directly to a monitor with a USBC to HDMI (or USBC to USBC if monitor supports) cable.
You should have also mentioned that you can connect a bluetooth controller for gaming such as Fortnite or even use the Nvidia app to stream games from your steam accounts.
Dex is the most underrated feature of samsung flagship devices. I think if they just quote this feature alone and keep improving it would be an easy sell for them. With spotify not opening up, I think its a problem with spotify and not the device. The only reason for me to buy this S10 plus was for this feature and other perks that come along. Quick question: Do you think $25-$30 dongle from Amazon would be good enough? I bought one for $70 and works seamlessly but the reviews on cheaper ones are not good and say may cause overheating and shutdown. Is this true? Good video though.
I guess almost every "hard user" has something that will not work on Dex unfortunately. For me it's Adobe XD, I can't use Dex for work because of this, otherwise for sure I would retire my laptop
I'm glad Dex is getting more notice and recognition. People shrugged it off at first when Samsung introduced it for the first time. But when Apple unveiled iPad OS, people were all over it.
This is a very great feature that I loved when I found out, but the problem that killed it for me is that you can’t really do true multi-tasking. Where you have 2 games run at the same time without pausing/freezing the other one, Especially idle and auto mechanic games. It’s definitely not for me.
Thank you! Thank you! I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab s5e and looked at several videos just to get comfortable with DeX. Yours is the 1st that made me comfortable and knowledgeable enough to want to try it!!!
As far as printers, make sure you have the proper print service installed based on the brand you own. My mom and I each have an HP MFP and are able to use both the print and scan functions. Note: Mom has an S9 and I have an S10.
This is a very useful review of the main selling point of Samsung. Not only talking the specs but its usuabiliity and the value of the phone or software...
Just moved my setup into it's own room for making youtube videos and streaming. Was going to get a laptop for my room to do some random things and maybe watch videos. I'm going to use DeX instead on my S10+ and give that a shot
portable external HDD WORKS.. actually I connected my two SSD external drives with 1T and 500GB on my Samsung note 9 but you need to use a hub and need additional power from a plug or your power bank. BUT IT WORKS PERFECTLY on my note 9 but like one external HDD you don't need additional power, make sure your drives are formated on exFAT format so your tablet or phone will recognize it
I have ordered a NexDock touch screen. Cuts the need to maintain another set of hardware and licenses. I dex onto my Samsung TV its cool. I did a PowerPoint presentation using Dex and my S Pen and it really impressed the audience. Serious tech envy and the finance guy was knocked out lol.
It's the ultimate "thin client". I used DeX to remote in to my desktop via Citrix receiver, and had a full Windows desktop. The only glitch was when I used one of the MS Excel shortcuts to highlight the row (shift spacebar I think) and it intercepted the keystrokes and brought up a DeX language configuration setting. Otherwise I wouldn't have seen any difference.
Yes, a wireless printer will definitely work just like it works when linked to a smartphone. Some MS Office applications have limited capabilities, for instance you cannot use a CTRL+X key combination in Word. I am a translator, so SDL Trados, which is a CAT tool, is the software nowhere to be found for a smartphone. Only for PC. But there is a browser-based translation tool SmartCat that should work just fine.
Warning about charging pads vs other adapters, I get great results with the Anker PowerWave Stand (which I cannot use with DeX on my S9+ until I notch the "ledge") but their pad style chargers do not work with my S9+. Best to avoid wireless and get an integrated USB C dock or otherwise do everything via hard wiring.
@@MikeOBrienMedia I'm using Total Commander with the Microsoft exFAT/NTFS plugin. Can read flash drives and external hard drives...BUT I am using a USB-C to HDMI adapter with a PD input.
Excellent, informative video; thanks for posting it. I just picked up an S9 and I want to try it. Does it work with any USB-c to HDMI connector, or only certain ones?
I think Samsung should port some of their desktop applications to be used in DeX. Galaxy Watch Designer is only available on Windows & macOS and Bixby Studio is only available on Windows, macOS & Linux. If Linux on DeX could efficiently emulate x86 programs, I could see DeX being a real game changer.
@@MikeOBrienMedia I really like it I am in real estate it is very helpful to be able to do whatever I need on the go... But don't you also have to carry a mouse and keyboard and cables with you if you rely on DEX alone. Don't get me wrong, great and informative video and DEX is certainly the way of the future for hand held computing devices, once 5G make interfacing with other devices much easier, and projected keyboards or motion detection become realistic in responsiveness, then I see it. For me, as you said, it's as simple to carry a Chromebook, as it is a Bluetooth keyboard. But I like your videos a lot. Great for gaming with bluetooth controller too. Note 8. The reason you only get 5 apps at once is because of your 3rd party hub my original DeX dock I get 20 apps open plus
I like your presentation. I have been looking at using Dex for the last few weeks. Would you list the information for your monitor? Also, the Apple keyboard never shows the first key you enter for passwords, etc. It's a quirk with the software.
9:04 Maybe you have to formate the external harddrive/SSD to exFAT (it doesn't recognize NTFS). I connected a 4TB HDD 2.5" (exFAT formated) directly with my Samsung Galaxy S8+ with USB-C and it worked. It also worked without a problem with my USB-C stick. It's good possible that it's not working with all HDD's.
Using s8 with its dexpad for office meeting and online classes of my son. The dell 24" monitor with 4 usb ports can handle mouse ,keyboard, diskdrives and pen drives. Not needing webcam as the front camera of s8 is better than most budget webcams. Using jbl Bluetooth speakers.

I just got the tab s7+ for 80$ off and the keyboard cover for 100$ off together with dex its really nice and its native I could use an adapter to connect it to the pc but this is great . I use moonlight to use it as a sheild I think it probably works with a phone too . I use my bluetooth mouse too and my controller . You can setup remote software or use a game that launches with a launcher to connect to your desktop remotely and be able to launch any app using moonlight it basically creates a server on your network that your pc is connected to .
So I've got the S21 fe 5g and bought the Samsung dex stand (circular model) and have a multi port USB plugged in and this device definitly has its limitations. Can not plug in a external hard drive from my testing, but can use use most other devices with this dex. And yes you can charge phone while in the cradle but can not use with case on phone but that's a little trade off I'm willing to sacrifice. Plus with charging phone in cradle is a nice feature. Waiting on a wireless printer so that it can be used with the dex and so it will be nice. Bought the Samsung dex device to pair with the phone and overall experience it can definitly replace any laptop/computer and if you want your own personal device and storage this is it. Plus with the dex device you can in the settings once phone is put into cradle, you can have the mouse slide off the screen and switch over to your phone which is extremely helpful. I believe it cost me on Amazon roughly just under $85 with prime, taxes if applies. I'd highly suggest this device but make sure you have a hdmi cable cord. It's awsome. I've plugged hard drives plugged directly into my s21 with the USB adaptor that came in box with phone and never had a issue doing so and using it on phone.
"Mad cow disease" 😂😂😂 By the way, Samsung announced 3 days ago that the S10-series will get an update to support Dex on PC via the charging cable. No need for extra cables, dock or external screen. Just plug the USB directly in to the PC/Laptop.
The update just arrived on my phone (in Norway) today and just plugging my charging cable (USB-end) to the PC instead of the charger it works like a charm!
Couple of points you made... First of all I sold my gaming pc and used the money to buy a new sofa suite because of how good Dex is... First point you made about only 5 apps open at a time. If you have the phone charging properly or use a Dex station you can open around 20 apps at a time so that's not a limitation. You also said you can't use an external hard drive but I have a Dex station with my note 9 and I have a usb hub for more ports and I have an external hard drive permanently plugged in and it works perfectly formatted as fat32. Hope that helps
Tryed that yesterday, I love it. Won't remplace my laptop, you can't play PC games, you can't code properly, you can't do design, you can't use it as a computer. But if you are, like me, a fan of "everything on mobile", it makes it easier to use the phone, cause you finely get it on a proper environment. With a real keyboard (typing on phones is a nightmare for me) and you can remove blue stake for you computer (the thing is great but way too slow :p )
It sounds like a lot of your gripes with Dex is power problems. Hard drives and flash drives will work if you get a USBC breakout that has a power pass-through, like you can plug in USBC into it to power your phone. They need to be formatted to something the phone can read though, like NTFS, FAT, exFAT or EXT4. Probably not anything that is Mac specific though. A powered USBC breakout would also eliminate the need for a wireless charger, and you could use USB keyboards/mice. I had a wireless printer that had an app for it so I know wireless printers would work but plugging it into a powered USBC breakout might allow a printer to work, I'm sure it depends on if it is supported in Android or not. This isn't that amazing, Apple will eventually move their macs over to the ARM processors they make, Microsoft is being kinda slow to adopt ARM fully(like they're slow for everything) but Linux, which Android is based on, has had full ARM support for a while now. I already know a lot of people that only have phones, no computers, so this would give them functionality, they wouldn't need to ask to use my notebook for random things anymore.
Couple of things I noticed that you said we're not accurate. 1. I am able to edit vlog and si.ppe videos wih cyberlink power director it's quite a good experience. 2. I use infinite design and autodesk sketch for illustrations 3. I use an external HDD hat is powered by an adapter, again no problem 4. Connected a wired USB printer. Took prints as well. For most daily desktop needs I think DEX is quite capable.
*UPDATE* Thank you all for watching! If you use a powered hub (such as the Dex stand) then many of the limitations I faced go away! And libraries could have monitors where people could connect their phones to do some work. Also internet caffees could use this aswell!

Best use case for Dex I've seen is family use with students. Leave a setup in a living room or kitchen. Then anyone can plug in to get homework done. One device for everyone.

Great video mate. Actually if you use Samsung’s Dex pad you will be able to open more than five windows at the same time, and as a bonus you get a couple of usb ports and a fan to keep your device cool while charging and using Dex. Keep up the good work.
Oh nice! I didn't realize the Dex pad removed that limitation. Very interesting!
Exactly. Stay away 3rd party hubs. DeX cord also limited but not 2 official hubs.

Keep up the good work 😉👌
Nice, first time someone tests dex that intense, keep it up bro.
Thanks for watching!! I really appreciate the support!
true
As a heads up, DeX can utilize thumb drives, USB 3.0 HDD, and USB printers. I would suggest trying a different adapter as some lack that functionality but not all. My DeX Pad can do printers, thumb drives, and USB mouse/Keyboard, and I got a seperate adapter with USB 3.0 for use with my media hard drive. Works great
What adapter you have?
I could see smartphones eventually replacing laptops with this type of technology
I agree. I think the Galaxy Fold and new Surface Fold will start to bridge the gap even more. It's an exciting future
Mike O'Brien Windows is switching to Linux based on their next OS. So a lot of programs will start having Linux support.

@@Andrew-it7fb yes but on the other hand you would have to carry a laptop as well
Wireless printer works 100% I have an HP office jet with the relevant apps installed and works flawlessly.
@@far1998a my friend my comment is 3 years old. You might be right though about fan but amount of peripherals still is a big difference

@@davebirch2543 headphones, keyboard, mouse, watch...
Yeah definitely a very impressive feature that I think gets underused

Linux isn't for beginners
it was a good rundown, most people miss many important points like - you cant connect a printer, also it was amazing of you to really stretch it, most videos I've seen try to really underplay how powerful dex is, but just using it as a phone even on dex mode, not hating on anyone, but yeah your video was very helpful!
You can print wirelessly
A big pro for IT people is that it can fully run linux
It can run Linux VM with vncserver
I only use my old android 7 tablet because shipping things too my country from internet is impossible. But when i need windows or linux i just rent vps with windows on it or linux with ubuntu or debian on it and either ssh into linux or vnc into windows. Works. It odd and awkward but it gets the job done.
No root access in Linux is a big limitation. No GPU acceleration is another big limitation. Having to use a VNC viewer is an annoyance.

Not for now

Yes, a wireless printer will definitely work just like it works when linked to a smartphone. Some MS Office applications have limited capabilities, for instance you cannot use a CTRL+X key combination in Word. I am a translator, so SDL Trados, which is a CAT tool, is the software nowhere to be found for a smartphone. Only for PC. But there is a browser-based translation tool SmartCat that should work just fine.

"Mad cow disease" 😂😂😂
By the way, Samsung announced 3 days ago that the S10-series will get an update to support Dex on PC via the charging cable. No need for extra cables, dock or external screen. Just plug the USB directly in to the PC/Laptop.
I heard that announcement! Very exciting!!
Can i use type C to usb 2.0 for connecting S10 plus to PC?
@@nguyenha2009 Yes, that is correct. No need for any other cables.
The update just arrived on my phone (in Norway) today and just plugging my charging cable (USB-end) to the PC instead of the charger it works like a charm!
Excellent!!
Yeah using a powered hub makes the difference. I decided to buy one for myself to remove the limitations I faced.
THE FUTURE !
It would be nice if they had a foldable monitor and keyboard to attach to the phone
For anyone wondering, you can connect an external SSD to your phone and it will workouts fine
Protip: instead of getting a wireless charging pad, just get a dongle that supports USB-C in for charging!

Nice video! Another pro on going Dex is powersaving. It uses a lot less power than a laptop and even more than a desktop. It will evolve I'm sure.
I can't wait for Librem5 because i can have a full Linux Desktop without compromises
I see a laptop in the background 👀
Couple of things I noticed that you said we're not accurate.
1. I am able to edit vlog and si.ppe videos wih cyberlink power director it's quite a good experience.
2. I use infinite design and autodesk sketch for illustrations
3. I use an external HDD hat is powered by an adapter, again no problem
4. Connected a wired USB printer. Took prints as well.
For most daily desktop needs I think DEX is quite capable.
